What’s a Tengu?
Were you attracted to GW by some of the unique features that were displayed in early manifestos?
Yeah, pity they changed.
Promised so much delivered so little.
Any expansion they release will probably sell pretty well tbh.
Don’t listen to the forums, typical whiny vocal minority really. Expansion would bring back players as well.
Considering how much entertainment/content you get for the price, it’s a pretty great return.
Don’t see why it would necessarily bring back players. I’ve not played for months although I could if I wanted and it wouldn’t cost me anything.
If I can’t be bothered to log into GW2 now as it is, what makes you think an expansion would change that? They might get some back for an expansion but I doubt they would keep them for long, not unless things really improve with this game.
For some players might be LS reason to quit but for different reasons then missing certain parts of it. They fear that LS updates are only content which GW2 ever gets so they just said to themselves “WvW is zerg vs zerg i dont enjoy it that much, future of PvE content is LS, i dont like it that much either so what do i do for fun in this game?” ……farewell GW2….
I have 6 max level characters, first two were fun to level by just doing all the PVE quests which gives you 92% of the map explored. Of course each new character was less fun as the content is just the same.
I didn’t like the living story from the start, worse were the sonic-periscopes that you could not avoid as they would not ignore you. LS was just cheap throw away content based on achievements, achievements being about the cheapest content there is.
Jumping puzzles seemed like strange content to have in an MMO, you do them once and there!s little reason to do them again, because once you know how to do them they,re just so easy.
Mini games another bad idea where mmo’s are concerned if those mini game impose on the VR world. Like that retro game with the block mobs that were seeded around the VR world.
Other issues were boss hunts and overflows, got stuck in overflows quite often even though I only played on 1 server. People farming bosses because let’s face it world drops were non existent at least that’s what I’d found whilst levelling 6 character that had done all world quests. Also there was no skill needed in killing world bosses as there were so many people killing them. Just wait around until the boss showed up kill it and hopefully get a exotic item.
I finally gave up when I started farming world mobs and found in this game even that was more boring than other mmo’s due to very poor drop rates and no interesting drops.

What is funny is that I see multiple people say. I spend (a lot of) money on gems but don’t like the way the game is going now so might stop doing so.. The way the game is going now is strongly linked to the gem-store as its being build around the whole idea of how to get people to buy gems. And indeed thats not good for the game.
So basally buy spending so much money you guys made the game go in the direction it is going now. Also for the people that did not buy gems. Hopefully you learned your lesson. There is no bad thing in giving money however, better do that for expansions so you know the game will go in the correct direction in stead of spending it on a cash-shop resulting in a game focusing itself around that with all negative side-effects that come with it.
That’s true, but in my case I decided to test out all classes so needed 8 character slots and with 8 characters that had professions cooking etc. you need more bank slots.
It was only after playing for awhile I could see where their main focus was, namely the shop. The shop was always going to be important to them but they seem to be too much focused on it for my liking. So much so the game does suffer for it.
Well purchased more bank slots and character slots plus several armor skins, so yeah easily spent enough for a year’s sub in another MMO and that was in just one month.
Only played for about 2 months so hardly worth it as it turned out. But still useful if I ever decide to come back to GW2, although that’s unlikely if they continue in the direction they’ve gone.

It’s part of why I stopped playing GW2. Never did like the LS it just seemed like cheap content based around achievements and achievements are the cheapest way to generate so called content.
Was attracted to GW2 originally because they set out to make an MMO as I understood it were a solo player could do most of the content. By the time I actually purchased the game it was already moving away from that ideal. With more content being aimed at guilds for one.
Only played for about 2 months, have 8 characters, 6 of which are max level. Started to get bored with the content in the end though especially end game content. Although to be fair I wasn’t, doing much PvP as players just seem to appear out of nowhere I put this down to not having a fast system at the time.
I felt with content like the living story, poor drop rates from mobs which made even farming mobs boring that the game was becoming less about the game and more about how to milk their customers by getting them to use the shop.

I’ve been playing for just over 2 months and I noticed a different from when I first started.
I’ve got 6 characters at 80 with full exotics, but I’ve run out of steam on this game. 5 of those have world maps completed at 93/92 % leaving just the WvW parts.
I find that although I enjoyed on the whole getting those characters to 80 (hearts bit too repetitive) I’ve found my interest has slowly disappeared.
No reason in game to actually do anything now, world mobs seem to just spawn in the same places and don’t wander much. The world drops are so uninteresting that it’s not even any fun farming world mobs. The game just does not present any real end content other than chasing achievement points which is only interesting if you find that kind of thing interesting.
Last few days just logged in to do the dailies and to complete the pet collection on the ranger, which I’ve found can’t be completed anyway as four came from achievements in GW (1). Today logged in and just logged out again.
The reason I don’t bother much with WvW is this pc is not that quick so other players tend to appear out of thin air.
So I’ll be giving this game a rest.
Maps with world chests throw me into overflow. There are two obvious solutions: force guesting to be via invite only, so that the goal (allowing players to play with their friends) still gets accomplished, but not abused (granted, this will see the formation of crossworld world-chest farming guilds, but it will form a barrier to entry that only prepared people can circumnavigate). Alternately, only allow world chest rewards on your home server. Another thread communicates the feeling well, if I may quote:
Because when I can’t fight a dragon on my own server because folks from other servers just can’t get enough dragon farming, I find it unfair and selfish on their parts. Thank you.
Problem is that you exclude players that might be on a low population server that may just want to play on a more populated server.
Better solution is to give priority to the characters that are on their home server so that it does not disrupt their game play so much.
I am really against race change, but it seems many want it. At least i could understand a change only in appearance and race skills with a big mark in the personal storyline for the change (story is still the one of the original race). I am against it, but if they all really want it and you can make some money with it, just allow it.
Problem is the personal story, it won’t apply anymore to that character.
I don’t see a way around that other than resetting the personal story back to the start. But even then there’s a problem as you start the character in your personal story. Might be why they’re not considering it at least for now.
Well how come reptilian isn’t original I don’t see any mmorpg having that race while line age, wow and other mmorpg games has elves which isn’t original anymore and people still against it. People really don’t like reptiles I see. Reptiles are the source of dragons how it can’t be cool. Tengu has a look of a human with wings it’s not that original, maybe the creature but looks nothing to it.
Ema.4953@ I didn’t even what dr.who and their reptiles aren’t even close to my imagination. I guess people can’t figure out what imagination I want to reveal.
Azala Yar.7693@ Skritt doesn’t look important, thinking about an island with dinosaurs can make a big expansion with new world boss.
Sirius.4510@It looks lame because I drew it a bit wrongly just use your imagination and you’ll figure it out. that race looks strong and important, it has way more force than charr.
Dinosaurs tend to appeal to kids, it’s just that kind of subject matter. I wouldn’t play a lizard normally having said that the ones in EQ2 were ok.
A skritt, not important? Are any of the other races important? The only important thing is it needs to be a race that people want to play anything else doesn’t matter other than fitting into the existing game so that they don’t stand out like a sore thumb.
Question is does it really annoy you or are you just bored with it.
If it’s high level chances are you’ve got bored unless you’ve never been sure about it from the start.
I can’t play Asura because their ears bounce up and down when they run.
Norn too tall.
Charr too tall and bounce around when running.
Sylvari like the voice dialogue to start but found I’d gone off it a bit by level 27 (deleted that character).
So basically that leave human, female humans as find the males like in other games a bit too wooden when they run.
So yeah, I’m a bit picky but that’s why you try them out to see which ones suit you best. Sooner you find out the better.
Keep falling damage traits
Right now I am deciding if I want to make a new character of the same class, keep playing the race that annoys me or do something else.
I had thought I could do this quickly through crafting but you can not reset crafting skills to 0. And their is not a paid feature available to do this so my suggestion is add a way for us to do a race change.
It is possible in other games.
Well I got over that problem by having 8 of the same character, 1 for each of the professions. That way never have an issue as to which character I prefer, only which profession. Of course it would be a problem if I went off of that character, but that’s unlikely because if that happens it’s not the character that I’ve gone off of.
My vote would be for a playable Skritt.
They have character at least.
Cute and comical.
Please allow all ascended items to be bought with laurels.
I don’t think its fair that hard core players who do Guild missions, fractals and such get all the ascended we Caucasus who only have time to do our dailies and get laurels – don’t. That is to say I think all ascended items should be able to be bought from laurel vendors.
thoughts?
Also, I think as of right now you can only get SOME from laurels and not all…. while yes it promotes a reason to do content, maybe hand out laurels as regardless instead of ascended gear – regardless of drop rate.
All Ascended items (Except Backpacks) are available with Laurels.
You mean 5 pieces of jewelry?
How many dailies would I have to do to kit out 8 characters? Actually, couldn’t even do that as the 2 earring spaces require more than just laurels.
Like to see you kill one solo.
Only reason world bosses are easy is because so many people are killing them.
Behemoth only takes a few minutes to kill, it takes far more time waiting for it to spawn.
I’ve never played a thief but my friend got one to Lv.30+ and he told me it was hard to level since you take a lot more damage than say warrior/guardian. So it’s also the class has medium armor and depending on your build will be trickier to play. Heck, I find it hard to solo group events on my 3k+ armor guardian. So if you pull that off with thief that’s even more of an accomplishment
Good luck!
Thief was mY first I leveled to 80, It’s fast to level but did die more than the other classes I’ve leveled.
Guardian rarely died and good skills especially greatsword.
Mesmer, slow to level but was using the staff, glad I did as now at 80 with loads of condition damage it’s great.
Leveling a warrior atm, feels like you’re playing a godess although it struggles sometimes on the tougher mobs due to the cd lengths (using hammer). Which is only lvl 25 atm.
I actually like the downed state, it’s saved me so many times.
Trick is, if it looks like you will go down, try to leave the ones with the lowest health alive and damage those with the most, then it’s easier to keep on getting up, in the downed state kill those with the lowest hp left.
As a Warrior, my shouts miss when I am blinded…
That’s because in this game you use your eyes to shout.
But really it’s daft on both accounts, the shouts and traps.
But my guess is it’s part of their balancing to actually make blind more useful.
Such a simple addition would be to allow players to search armor not only by rarity but also weight.
For instance, a mesmer does not care about heavy/medium armor.
Being able to refine a TP search like this would be helpful and as im sure many would have before me, i assumed it’d be common sense to put that in.
Agreed, that’s one of the things I’ve found with the trading system. Would have thought that search would have been in during beta even.
well of course . They are made time efficient though because you will always have a reliable group and timers are more oft than not correct
Sounds more like an excuse. They’re not interested in the event, just the loot.
Wow, you guys are all hating on the few pieces of ascended gear that give a minimal, undetectable increase in stats (outside of VIT 1:10 ratio)… Can anyone determine if someone has ascended pieces over exotics? Absolutely not. You’re not gonna say “wow, if I had ascended gear I’d be just as good as that guy” You will not tell the difference of an additional 50 power unless you pay close attention, 50 vit is another story.
WvWvW is about running in packs and ganking/ambushing players.. how is that skill based? Sometimes you get a 1v1 and sometimes 1v2-3, but many times you’re doing 1v1 only to get jumped (which is why it’s a good culling is being removed).
sPvP is a serious grind to rank up, do you have any idea how many hours it will take to rank up to end up looking just like a PvE player. sPvP has minimum appeal with very little reward & many serious pvp players either quit or moved to WvWvW.I think you guys are selfish.. you want to say “everyone should play the way they want” yet out of your own selfishness want to restrict others from doing what they want for their sense of accomplishment. Why? so you can feel better about yourself? You certainly can’t tell the difference unless you’re inside FoTM and need AR, so what’s the problem? You’re not running FoTM obviously, so why not “play for fun” in whatever manner you’re doing. Ascended gear isn’t hurting you any & ascended gear doesn’t even exist in sPvP. WvW is about the only place it could make an impact & yet if it’s 10v10 you’re not going to tell a difference on 3/10 players in ascended.
You guys are simply selfish, that’s my take on this, there is no valid excuse on your part. If the stat increase was noticeable I would agree, but it’s not, so I will disagree with this entirely.
From what I’ve seen legendary and exotic there’s no real difference other than skins. But ascended jewelry compared to exotic there’s a big difference in stats.
One I was comparing last night (amulet)
exotic (power 60, precision 90, condition dmg 60)
ascended (power 85, precision 126, condition dmg 85)
Now that’s just one piece, so 5 pieces of ascended jewelry will make a difference.

The reason why guests don’t do temples is simple . The timers are always off and you cant rely on a group showing up .
Maybe, but I think it’s more likely that as they’re just loot hunting, world events are much easier to get done quickly with no real effort required, so then they can get back to their own servers.
the per account idea has been one of the more viable ( if not more resisted ) ideas floated out there so im somewhat open to it .
it
1) Would reduces rares and ectos making them mor valuable again
2 ) Would reduce the amount of overflows
however some of the cons are
3 ) it would reduce the number of temples open at any given time on a server ( no chest = no incentive for alot of people )
4 ) reduced numbers at an event inevitably means its going to take more time which not everyone has a lot of .
Im not really opposed to the per account thing but i can see how it might have a negative effect .
With regards to your 4) I’d say this is more likely to happen at non-peak times. But it’s potentially a problem for some people.
As for 3) that’s also a problem, not an easy one to rectify. If you limit world bosses to per account and not temples then you’re manipulating peoples play style into doing more temples, which in turn will start to limit on how to play the game as a lot will chase the gold.
But if nothing is done then overflows are still ruining the gaming experience for some people.
Which brings us back to giving priority to those playing on their home server.
And I know for a fact that a lot causing the overflows are guests as they openly talk about it as they’re waiting for the events. I suspect most of those are doing world group events as they’re very quick to do once spawned, I doubt as many do temples.
If we’re going to have this discussion honestly then lets . Is guesting part of the problem yes but there are other things as well.
1 ) The introduction of bounties . You may not think about it all that often but if a guild triggers a bounty and gets one in an event zone there could be a swarm from 1 guild at the other end of Frostgorge or Sparkly right before or as a dragon pops .
2 ) Map population reduction. Its my understanding that the population allowed per map has been reduced. This of course will cause more frequent overflow
3 ) Guaranteed rares . Do you honestly think that only the guesting population is increasing the event mobs? Have you ever thought that since you are guaranteed a rare or better that people on your own server might be hitting the chests that didn’t bother before?
Now discuss
From what you’re saying the best option would probably be change it from per character to per account. That way it reduces the rares and reduces the boss farming.
I’ve not done any PvP yet in this game and probably won’t until I’ve replace my present computer (lag).
In PvE I find that if you balance a character, settling for a bit less damage in favour of a bit of vitality and toughness you end up with a better balanced character.
But high damage mages will always be a primary target as they can cause a lot of grief and usually are fairly easy to kill. Most combat is a numbers game, always get rid of the easiest first that way there will be less incoming damage and less support for the enemy.
Seems you want to be high damage and tough so you will have to compromise with your stats, that’s the whole point of being able to choose what attributes you invest in. But a light armor wearer shouldn’t invest too much in toughness as it’s combined with the armor protection value, but a bit of toughness and vitality can help.
Only have a low level(11) ranger, but the one thing I’ve found is that the pet is too squishy (cat)and there doesn’t seem to be a very effective heal for your pet.
I also find it odd that they don’t kill the pet it just leaves the fight with about 1 hp either that or it becomes the walking dead.
Well, I guess I’m not the only one -_-
I love the game and I love all the options.
It’s just that all the options are becoming much less optional.
I followed this game before launch and one of the things that attracted me to it at the time was the fact that you could actually play it solo if you wished. As well as the no grind, but unfortunately that’s not actually true or at least not anymore.
I like the game, been playing it about 47 days now, already have 3x 80’s and working on my 4th, so you can see I do like it (didn’t play from start as decided to wait untilthey sorted early issues out).
I think part of the problem is that they see more currencies as more content, but in fact it’s more limiting content which effects the game play so that you have more limited choices than actually opening up the choices. They seem to be making the same mistakes as WoW, WoW became easier and more crap with ever expansion, I just hope they don’t do the same thing here.
More instances would at least allevieate the problem and be cost effective.
I only play on one server (I don’t guest)and being stuck in overflow means I’m not on that server.
Guesting itself was an interesting concept, not sure why they decided they needed it. I’d guess the main reason was so that those on low populated servers could actually mix with a larger group of people. But guesting by a lot of people is just being used for farming the bosses, hence the issue.
Overflows are ruining gaming experience due to people changing servers as guests to just boss hunt for loot.
How could that be improved?
If overflows have to remain at least give priority to those on their home server.
Or change it so that you can only get loot from a boss once a day per account instead of per character. That might improve the situation.
There’s a bigger thread about this on the ‘support – game bugs forum’.
Same problem for me, completed 5 and 6 at the same time and of course got no reward.
Same problem:
‘Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…’
Logged out for up date, now it’s not connecting.
Good luck!
