The Terms of Service say that arena.net can do almost whatever he wants. They could say that this was an exploit of an unintended feature and ban, but i think that it is highly unlikely, a huge number of players leveled some or most ranks by farming in these hot join, that means they will need to ban a huge number of players.
It’s more likely that they will try to fix in some way the issue, but if u farmed rank 50 with it, they won’t do anything to you (feel free to farm ranks).
It won’t be fixed, atleast until they change their priorities for balance.
The issue here, is that 90% or more of balance is done for their (failed) ezport conquest spvp, since there while you are stealth you lose the point, stealth is not that good.
But in WvW stealth is way way way too good (and yea, i played thief in spvp and in wvw, and being able to run from any fight, avoid zergs and hide in the shadows and strike the weak is way way too good to be balanced with other classes).
Yep, watched it for about 20 minutes, out of curiosity. It was a guy playing WvW while waiting for the queue (10 minutes or so), then a tourny round (pretty fast one, 12 or 13 minutes maybe) and back to queue wvw.
In EU, I rarely queue more than 1 min for soloQ.
Apart from the odd 4v5 and the weird matchmaking, it’s much better than HJ for sure.
U are lucky, last time i played i had 12 minutes queue :P in EU too.
GW2PVPTV is still alive ? o_O
I’ts good, it actually hides pretty well how awfull gw2 spvp is to watch.
I’m pretty sure deathmatch won’t be a soloqueue or team queue option, neither control the flag or king of the hill. They will be a option for custom arenas or hot join.
Those gamemodes will also have worse balance than conquest (since classes and traits are balanced for that, it’s no secret that balance is 90% towards spvp conquest, the rest is for wvw and pve).
That doesn’t mean that more game modes will be bad, they will be good, it will harm the chance that conquest spvp becomes esport, but since that chance is close to the same that i have in winning the lottery without buying any ticket, it’s ok.
Maybe more people will play those modes, and maybe we reach something amazing, like i don’t know, 20% of gw2 playerbase interested in spvp.
Words mean whatever we want, but if with esport we mean a competition electronic game that has hundreds of thousands of followers and where there are teams and/or players who live by what they earn in those competitions, then gw2 spvp is an esport in the same way that China is comunist, England is a Kingdom or civil service is democratic.
Fun facts about history, we say china is comunist, even when it has one of the most capitalist economies of the world; we say england is a kingdom, even when the king or queen doesn’t have any actual power at all; and we call civil service democratic even when democratic means power of the people and civil service it’s a sort of true intellectual elite aristocracy.
Your are over-estimating team death match, anything with more than 2 vs 2 in this game is not watchable.
That’s true. Gw2 sold a lot (3 million ?) and spvp is played, not nearly played like pve or wvw but played. Even if it’s just 5% of those it’s freaking 150.000 players!!
Of course, it’s a lot, but it’s not nearly enough to acomplish their esport dream, also if u tried to watch a tournament, the “fun” of watching it is almost 0, i can watch stacraft 2 or league of legends. I think it’s because this game use too many skills per second, since human mind can’t keep up, there is no way to watch the cool skill that player x used and gave his team the advantatge (1 vs 1, or 2 vs 2 are way better to watch, but when u reach 3 v 3 pfff..). That could be sort of solved with energy management, that way spaming every skill in cooldown will have a bad effect and a good one (it’s also why every single mmo i played had some energy management system, to avoid spam, freaking gw2 innovation madness…).
But yeah, i agree, as a company they should accept reality and stop with the esport horse (at first it was funny to see all those devs and players talk about the future and the esport and the mlg, delusions of grandieur; but now, it’s just sad, really really sad and not funny anymore). U have a game with pve and wvw, and both are more played than the esport wannabe spvp, accept facts, and start balancing ur classes more towards wvw and pve.
Or instead of that, ur boss could hire more dudes and do it
(honestly, if i were ur boss i would do the same, no point in wasting too much resources in spvp).
What i think is bad for the game and avoidable is that balance is done 80% of the time with spvp in mind, when it’s the least played and the balance of pve or wvw is way way worst.
There is little to no evidence of this really. When you think about it logically almost anything that is a problem in spvp is a problem at the very least in WvWvW because of things like ludicrous buff durations and super inflated stats that exist in WvWvW.
Come on, don’t troll me, i can read the patch notes xD .
I know a lot of pver’s that were shocked by a lot of patches, why the hell they do that to the warrior!!, well, it’s easy, because warrior is bad in spvp and since they balance around spvp, it doesn’t matter how good or overplayed is in pve . The elementalists were even more funny, why are they nerfing me ? my class is way worse than the warrior!! well, it so happens that in spvp eles were really good bunkers, so.. well, have a nice day
.
WvW has slightly better balance, but there is some really funny things, like runes that apply confusion for every interrupt without internal cooldown, tried them with an engi with lots of cc, i wouldn’t call them balanced but it was a fun experience (for me, for my enemies not so much) . And the mass warrior hammer meta is hilarious too.
Since spvp it’s, well, a bit of a failure, i don’t think it would be bad to start balancing around pve or wvw.
What about “We tested other modes in beta and conquest was the best one” ?
More modes won’t cleanse ur sins.
Hype never dies .
There is only one thing more useless than a show about gw2 spvp with devs, a show about gw2 spvp without devs (meaning for the game, of course, i will probably watch it, blowing some steam it’s never bad, so it’s not useless).
Although i like the idea more than the state of the game, in the end, since they have devs they can’t say what they want because then maybe the devs get angry and don’t come back, atleast this show will acomplish some laughs and some steam blow. The other one, it’s just boring, and anyways, almost nothing they talk about in that show is accomplished.
Underwater combat could be fun, but since they are unable to balance properly land combat, adding underwater will make them crazy.
You will have half a guy trying to balance land and water combat while fixing a bug while getting the ok to the balance from the wvw and pve team and fighting against 10 burocracy guys. Atleast now he has half the work, he can’t do it, but atleast he isn’t going crazy and having desires to burn everything.
Or instead of that, ur boss could hire more dudes and do it (honestly, if i were ur boss i would do the same, no point in wasting too much resources in spvp).
What i think is bad for the game and avoidable is that balance is done 80% of the time with spvp in mind, when it’s the least played and the balance of pve or wvw is way way worst.
They don’t lie, when they say it’s on the list, or we are working on it, it’s because they are truly working on it. The “We don’t want to give away to much.” it’s probably just that they don’t have much clue about they will do, so instead of lying they say something to show how concerned they are and that they have some sort of plan.
They also never ever give any Estimated Time or anything at all, that way they can’t never lie, since they can always say, yes, the aoe issue, we are working on it, it’s just that since we didn’t give any deadline or anything at all, it will be ready between now and the end of time, obviously nothing guarantees that you will live long enough to see it, or your sons, or your grandsons, …
I like one thing about WOW, they don’t hide their game is about pve, everyone knows that pvp in this game is just a little side of the game to spice things up.
In gw2, they tell you that spvp is an important thing of gw2, but facts tell us that it isn’t, and like wow pve is what matters. Atleast wow is honest with that.
Well, i can anwer those questions for you and i’m 80% that the answer i give you will be the same answer they will give you in the State of the Game:
Pick one of those: is on the list, we are going to do it, we are talking about doing x to solve it, we can’t talk about it right now but we have something for that.
The answer to every question was: is on the list, we are going to do it, we are talking about doing x to solve it, we can’t talk about it right now but we have something for that or we won’t do it because it’s costly.
No Estimated Times ever. It’s hard to hype with just words for a whole year.
Best no audio show ever .
Esports worthy .
It’s easy, here we have 2 ways to see MMO’s. The power way and the manifesto way of easy to obtain max stats.
You can’t really balance this, but arena.net is trying as hard as they can. In the end, since a lot of people bought the game as a way to escape from WOW to the paradise, arena.net will implement even more tiers of weapons and armor to obtain (I know they said no, but i’m pretty sure that some months after the last piece of ascended is released we will have a new awesomest new level).
It’s sort of the same thing that is happening with pve, wvw and spvp, in theory this 3 “games” are the same, they all get the same love, in practice, pve has bi-weekly updates (since it is the most played by far), wvw has some updates but not much, still the updates don’t make the game unplayable, and spvp, as an example, needed months for a random map generator (something that just picks a random map from the pool to play) and when it was released it had a huge bug in the loading screen of one map, so they took out the map and fixed it, funny thing is that still it doesn’t work and it favours one map like 50% of the times.
Too much innovation, too much modes (pve, wvw, spvp) to make it work properly.
The game will be playable by the end of the year, or not even then. Metro last light was at 60% discount on steam, just saying . There is other fish in the sea.
Trollhammer in private arenas .
Take a large break from the game, we have steam with a huge number of games to try.
I’m amazed how many people still play waiting for the game to be good, the game considering how fast they patch and the quality of it, has a long long long long way to be good, why u hate yourself so much to suffer the pain that comes from playing gw2 spvp ?
but why does it have to be this way?
It’s easy, they have tops 100k players with some interest in spvp, then probably 2 million in pve and let’s say 700k or more in wvw. Also, pve guys buy a lot more stuff with real money.
I would do the same thing they are doing (only i would be more harsh and balance classes for pve and a bit for wvw, instead of trying to balance for spvp). There is no reason to spend a single dollar more in spvp, other than “potential” and “passion” and “love”, but since we are trying to make money…
Game is fixed, go to play seriously!!
esport in 2 weeks.
I’m glad he acknowledged that there is no reason to think about gw2 as an esport, not now not in 2 years.
Spvp is just a sometimes fun and decent game to play, there are a lot of steam games way more fun, atleast for me, but spvp it’s decent and can be funny, and that’s something.

Stop qqing, the game is fine, the population is growing and it will become an esport in 2 weeks tops.
:)
As a viewer of the match, it was insanely fun to see those amazing players actively countering the passive procs. Also, the game was clear as water, at every fight of the game i was able to enjoy the skills and counterskills used by each of team.
The matches were really close, and they strike to me as very decent and nice guys.
Can’t wait to see them in another tournament, so i can enjoy the teamfights and the active counter of passive procs again.
So we get it, it’s hard to do anything about spvp. I understand it completely, you don’t have the money or the time, and there is not a lot of reason to do anything at all about spvp (for what 20000 that play it).
What i will ask is easy, come clean to the balance team, guys, there is no point in trying to balance the game for spvp, it’s a failure, but we still have wvw and pve, they are still played, we should balance for them.
I mean, overall, is a good game, sure spvp will never be fun to play to a lot of people and calling it esport just makes everyone laugh, but u still have wvw and pve, and both of them could use some help to make anything other than warriors and guardians more usefull.
Hell, maybe wvw and pve could use ur manpower so u won’t lose ur job, just think about it, come clean to the middle boss and gw2 will be what is meant to be, a good casual pve game with wvw to spice things up. And spvp to have an unfun time and dream about esports… .
Watched the wire, yes minister and yes prime minister are still better .
Also, breaking bad is better than the wire :P .
Gw2 spvp is amazing, i’m playing more and more. It’s also really fun to passively react to the enemy passives and procs with my own actively passive procs.
A players enraged show, nice. It should blow some steam atleast.
I’m gonna detail what will happen since you could skip half the process and move on with ur live.
The show will be an amazing rage with even some good points. It will be ignored by Arena.net, since fixing the game means remaking it. At most they will say, it ain’t that bad .
U will do the show for 2 or 3 more months. Then stop worrying about gw2 and move one with ur live, like a lot of players already did, Steam has a gazillion of games, there is no reason to play something that u hate.
I would say that 90% of specs you find in spvp tournaments are overpowered.
Warrior was the only balanced profession, till they gave them anti condi superpowers.
One of the worst matches i’ve ever seen in gw2.
Lots of AOE’s, pets, condis and various effects. From the 2 hour event, the only thing that was fun was 20 seconds of some 1 vs 1 fights, 20 sec for 2 hours.
Thank god it’s over, now get back to work dev’s and try to fix this mess u call game.
Well they posted more, and what they said, well, showed a lack of game understanding, so i think it’s better if they stop posting. It’s less harmfull.
I’m not sure if I still want to play sPvP with my thief eventhough I just started. I’m not the best player, but definitely not the worst player either. Every game I enter the majority of the teams are necro/engineers and rangers (necro seems especially prominent).
On many occassions it’s impossible to make any sense of the giant red blob with gazillion minions. And even if I tried to go aggressive, I get punished by people backpeddling and spamming AoE conditions. Is there actually any point in attacking lol? At first I just went in, no matter what the odds were. Now I just steer clear from the people with an army or baiting you with sturdy AoE condition builds and try to find an ele, mesmer, warrior or other thief to duel with. Could take me a few games to actually find one, but allright.
You are probably runing a balanced spec, use an overpowered one (overpowered specs in gw2 are called balanced and fine specs).
Reroll to sword/dagger.
Spam.
Profit.
Your performance will improve in 1 day or less.
Add a vote for surrender when ur team is losing by 150 points or more, if more than half of the remaining team vote yes (not voting counts as nothing), you forfeit the match and move on with ur live.
Punishing more the afk and leavers may reduce the amount of it, a bit, but i think that the issue is that nobody cares about the leaderboards, and even if u ban me for 2 days, i can still play pve or wvw or hotjoin, so who cares.
Soon .
Helseth strikes me as poor guy that has invested too much in gw2 spvp and yet he couldn’t fool himself completely, like a sort-of friend of mine who invested all his savings in a house and then the crash happens and the hype goes away.
He isn’t completely fooled, so instead of trying to sell the house for 100% or more of it’s price, he sells it by 80%, it obviously doesn’t work and in the end he sells it for 50% and accepts the loses.
Helseth it’s sort of the same, he invested too much time and effort in gw2 spvp, yet he sees that gw2 spvp isn’t even a decent pvp game (so calling it esport would be laughable), he sees that a lot of stuff needs to change, but he still believes it can be saved, he still believes that the core of the game is good and sweet and true and with some changes it will be awesome. Reality is a hard opponent and it always strikes back, in the end, he will stop playing too.
He should probably stop playing.
I mean, everything is true, but he will just be more and more enraged, there is no way they can fix this game, short of remaking most skills, utilities and traits of every single class.
Well, i don’t know in NA but in europe i’m facing 10 minutes queue’s in close to prime time, if they add more things to matchmaking like professions and being sure that everyone is there, it will be what, 20 minutes queue ? I’m not playing then, no way .
What’s the point of PAX ?
The game is clearly not ready and really unfun to watch, why throw 10.000 to the esports hole plus time and money to arrange the tournament.
What are your plans to deal with the spam?
Right now the game is too fast, the cooldowns are too small in most skills and the conditions and condition cleanses and evades too spammable, so we just spam our rotation. We all dream with a game where we use a condi for it’s utility instead of the damage or to cover other condis so condi cleanse doesn’t cleanse the damage condi, where we use aoe skills because there is more than one player in the same point, where we use evade to evade some huge incoming damage, not to evade randomly.
What are your plans to deal with bad animations ?
Some animations are just the way they should be, even in asuras, like the 2 mesmer sword, you know what he is doing. Others are really bad, like necro’s marks, or too instant, so it doesn’t really matter. As a rule, the more powerfull the skill, the more characteristic the animation should be.
Since you probably can’t afford to change 50% of the animations, consider cast bars, i know u hate them, but sometimes in live the only way to not lose is to surrender.
It’s more easy to just give one spamming overpowered spec for every class, then the game will be balanced (and more dead too, but who cares, it’s already dead ).
After the PAX i expect cool stuff, every class should have one overpowered and easy to use spec, don’t disapoint me arena.net!! Give all the clases more POWA. I suggest more aoe condis, the staff ele could do an aoe skill that applies 2 or 3 new condis (the more the better), the aoe should be big since eles are suffering, like half of the map. It should have a nice animation, bright as the sun, with lots of sparkles and shiny things.
Working hard or hardly working ?
After PAX they will give dumbfire to every single class, so we can all play condi-spam-aoe xD .
You should know by now that most balance tries to fix the broken spvp that nobody plays, since there stealth isn’t really good, stealth it’s not an issue and won’t be fixed, same happens in pve.
Anyone pretending that stealth is balanced in wvw is fooling himself, which is ok, in spvp arenat net has fooled himself into believing in the new and bright ezport future, so it’s not that bad.
It’s kind of funny, because they say you can use macros, and then they say that only when those macros are hotkeys xD .
It’s like u can fly with that plane, as long as the plane doesn’t lose physical contact with the earth .
Gw2 spvp may be a bad game, but i never laughed so much thanks to a game (not after trying the spirit ranger , hahha).
