in that case you most probably learned this recepie but it is for craft you do not know yet. For example (made up) you have cooking and leatherworking but this recepie is for huntsman. It means you KNOW the recepie but either do not know the craft or do not have appropriate level of crafting. If the second point is the case you should still be able to see this recepie in red on your recepie list.

nope, you must unlock recepie with character you going to use it on.

But I am puzzled about this lvl 80 thing. I am sure I “ate” recepies way above my current level/crafting level and was still able to use them when I reached desired level in crafting. Also I used recepies for which I had no crafting proffesion leveled yet (never learned) and they still were added to my list when I bought next craft.

It would be a serious letdown for the casuals that don’t want to farm like a bot and can’t handle fractals like a pro, but at least it would entice them to improve their play to partake in the fractals thing.

what about players who just don’t enjoy certain aspects of the game?

There was a lot talk about “no grind”, “not pushing people towards things they may not enjoy” and such. What happened to it?

Best crafting to make rares for ecto salvage?

I agree. Leatherworking and Tailor might be the best choice as leather and silk are cheap and come in bulk when u salvage items from lvl 80 zones. Also it is easy to farm ingredients such as bones or venom sacks during few events in Orr. Recepie for rare insignia is only 1-2 event worth of karma.

Problem is that, either my luck is bad or the rate you get ectos from crafted armor is bad.

Since the dreaded no-loot-patch, I hadn’t gotten anything notable in weeks. But suddenly, since lsat week, I’m consistently getting rares, and I’ve actually gotten 2-3 exotics off chests in dungeons. In a 4 hours gw2 night, I make off with 2 rares, and the still rare exotic, but at least I found some.

It just “came back” suddenly…

I had a streak of 3 rares 2 days ago but since then… Porous Bones…

There should be a subscription based GW2 package where they strip off the DR and let you play the game freely.

this! I spent fortune for many games till now and I wouldn’t mind paying some monthly fee. This game is great except the overgrown grind (which is also fun IF you can efficiently grind)

The problem with chests is that if they’re buffed, bots will just farm chests…

so in short, everything that bots can do is also ripped from normal players…

Agree with all you say but at least some explanation or confirmation from ANet about drop rates reduction would be nice. I don’t mind grinding but if I am suffering from mechanisms designed to prevent botting I would like to know it.
As I understand a regular player farming on purpose does not differ from a bot in terms of acquiring goods, only the time involved is different (well in some cases :P ).
Another side is that some measures taken against bots can prevent casual/semi-hardcore players from achieving some goals. It can’t be that some DR mechanism basically shuts down any drops after playing a game for more than a set time, right?

Again, the case is not RNG here. That’s my opinion here but it seems to be shared among large number of people.

Good idea but I’d rather hate to spend my time watching TP prices and hunting for opportunities than actually playing a game. I have no problem with slow progress as long as it is a progress. If I wanted to play some economic game my choice would be quite different, right?

TBH it is not all about legendary. I only puruse this as one of many goals but problem is it is soo time and resource consuming that if you decide to make it you are basically cut off from any other activity in this game.

I really cannot point where the real problem is but something does not feel right at the moment. Is it bugged or deliberately messed DR or RNG? Dunno really but from my long experience with MMOs this one is deffo the worst one in terms of acquiring stuff. Also, it definately felt better before Lost Shores patch otherwise how I could level all crafts and equip my char with full exotics without having more than 1g at a time from “normal” play in my bank?

“The drop rarity of Rare and Exotic weapons from certain places in the world (champions, veterans, and players in WvW) has been increased. Rares and Exotics should be much more likely to drop and every champion should be guaranteed to drop loot. This was to ensure that world loot drops were not a significantly worse way of acquiring rare and exotic items than crafting and running dungeons.”

Why don’t you guys just play the game for whatever drops, sell the good stuff on TP (or are you saying nothing worth selling ever drops for you?), complement that with some smart TP flipping and simply buy whatever mats you need? I sure don’t intend to grind my rear off for months when I can spend that time just enjoying the game. I mean… what’s the point in getting the item you want if you make yourself hate the game in the process?

LOL, have you tried to drop enough blue/green junk worth TPing to get enough gold to buy, for example, 100 Charged Lodestones? Since Lost Shores patch I do play TP with whatever valuable I drop for sell (and shows at least a possiblility to sell on TP higher than vendor value) and I made about 55g and that’s including event rewards and junk I sold to vendor. Oh, few gold came also from few lodestones I got from MF while doing clover recepies. Tell me it is enough if you consider current TP prices on Lodestones, T6 mats and Precursors. OFC you could say it is enough to just play but point is that the only thing I didn’t do in this game is getting precursor. Occasional WvWvW or dungeon with friends does not fill my “sense of accomplishment” bar at all.

As far as hate for the game is concerned. I enjoy it still just because I do not pay monthly fee. If I had to pay for it and still getting nowhere with poor loot as it is now I would play any other game instead. With so much grind involved to get anywhere it starts to feel more like a job than entertaiment.

Heck, I played many F2P games that were all about grind and they all felt better than GW2 feel now. At least I knew that even if I dont drop something I wanted I will grind enough cash to just buy it. In reasonable time.

I usually find a very steep decline after an hour or more in the same place, though I think it’s more a # of kills in the same place because if I’m not killing quickly it seems longer before that drop off happens.

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking about. The number of kills. For farming purposes I set up my char to hit as many mobs as it can (traits/sigils/AoE weapon) and if I happen to start my farming day with Plinx chain or other “full’o’mobs” event my luck with drops seems to wear of much much quicker.

As I wrote in another thread Pattern 1 seems to apply to me perfectly. I play about 5 hours/day and noticed that only during first hour or so I get drops better than white/blue junk and OFC infamous Porous Bones in bulk (parked myself in Orr).

Problem is, that if for some reason, I do not start “farming” straight away after login my drop rate is a disaster for the whole game time. Statistically if I farm various events for 5 hours and have decent MF I should drop something of interest, right? I am not talking about exotics or lodestones, as they have obviously nerfed drop rate, but “normal” rares. Not long ago I had over 100 globs in my bags (used them for clovers) and tried to build a new stack for more Mystic Forge lottery. Imagine my frustration when after a week of “farming” I found out that I only have 12 of them. At this point I must say I remember getting 2-3 globs from single salvage 3 times. That means I dropped so lil rares during 35 hours of play.

I do not want to sound negative but ANet messed up with either DR mechanics or deliberately tuned down drop rates for whatever reason.

Bearing in mind all that was already written in this thread I tried to pay close attention of my drops. Cleared my bags to be sure. Started as usual with Tixx then moved to my usual spots in Orr, found MF banner, ate some MF food and started doing events. In the first hour I dropped 3 rares +some T6 mats (fangs, scales, bones) + quite nice amount of bags. After an hour or so I started getting porous bones 60% of a time and some white/blue junk. Changed zones to Malchor’s Leap, loot became slightly better but still it was only bit more greens, no Charged lodestones. Moved to Frostgorge, same stuff. Went on Ori run around the zones, still crap. Moved to 1-15 zone to finish daily kill variety, got tons of mats and bags, nothing special.

Total gain for 5+ hours of playing: 4 globs, la\ess than 2g and few T6 mats. Now, ALL good drops happened in the FIRST hour of playing, which includes some minutes spent in Tixx dungeon.

Some of the posts just made me sure I am not insane. I also do see more rares after not playing for a day or two and saw BIG decrease in rare drops after Lost Shores patch. BTW it was then when I decided to have a go for legendary and started to gather mats for it. With some devotion and smart TP play I got everything since then except Charged. Not even single drop even tho I do spend 2-3 hours/day “farming” them. Statistically I should drop at least 1, right?

Concerning Charged Lodestones. I only have problem with those. Not because I need them for Bolt but because every other lodestone I can farm without a problem within reasonable time, any time of a day.

Why should someone be paid 300g+ in items when others who did just as much, if not sometimes even more, receive just a miniscule fraction of that?

Like my friend, who I invited for a trial during Lost Shores, who got 2 precursors and sold them to a vendor coz they were not for his class?

BTW he doesn’t play anymore coz he was annoyed about TEH GRIND.

So basically, in view of recent “jewelry exploit”, the only ones that can make money and “enjoy” the game are those who find every possible exploit in game?
I get the impression that some things in this game, like loot tables, are being tuned down on purpose to force people to buy gems.
Let’s be honest, 99% of things in BLTC is just for fun, there are no gamebreakers there. How ANet expects to make money out of it? Have anyone seen anyone running in those funny town clothes or buying boosters, pvp finishers, whatever in bulk?
IMO ANet is forcing us to buy gems/gold and that’s why they do little to control TP inflation.

I remember getting way much better drops when the game started and I had no idea about Magic Find. In fact I am struggling to get more than 20 globs per week now and I DO farm a lot.

A non-raging civil question about Precursors

Precursor Weapons can be acquired from some sources:

- Dragon Chests after killing them (The Shatterer, Claw of Jormag and Tequatl the Sunless);
- Capturing the Temples in Orr;
- Completing rewards from maps [x to 80];
- Explorer Dungeon Reward Chests;
- Mystic Forge (4 weapons of the same type lv75 or more).

These days I’ve seen an increase of Precursors from these sources. I recommend that you make them everyday to increase your chances.

Acquired is the wrong word here IMO. More suitable would be RNGed. I must have had a really bad luck because the only time i got something other than blue from a chest was during Lost Shores event.

Also I have yet to see ANY exotic reward for map completion below last 3 zones.

Charged Lodestone price going up too fast

The Devs have been silent so far, but I beleive in my heart it has got to be a bullet point on their overview meetings agenda pretty regularly.

I find it hard to believe that Devs actually would want to change the situation with lodestones. Why? Because a) lodestones are the major factor in stopping everyone an their dogs to run around with cool looking weapons (not only legendaries) and b) if they are hard to get = expensive it means more desperate people who will convert gems to gold and that equals ANet profit.

Besides, even if they said they upped the droprate we would have to believe them without any proof. RNG is RNG and it is hard to test. Remember when they wrote in some patch notes that Champion mobs almost guarantee rare drop? Have killed dozens of them by now and never ever got a single rare drop.

I understand this approach but I am not happy with it. IMHO getting to somewhere in MMO should be based on skill OR set time devoted to achieving something not RNG. I believe that even if 1 lodestone cost 10k-20k karma all would be happy.

IMO it all depends how changing legendaries into ascended equvalent will be handled. We know that trinkets have only infusion slot but no idea how it will be with weapons. Will they have sigil AND infusion slot? If not, the worst that could happen is that you will loose your sigil, not a big deal in most cases.

I stand with Grizzly, not everything that makes sense happens in MMOs.

some embelllished jewels you can get as a reward while doing your class quest. 1 or 2 if I remember correctly. Maybe this is where those cheap come from. Also many ppl sell stuff below the cost of production to earn quick gold (or just do not realise the fact that materials used cost more then the final product).

Charged Lodestone price going up too fast

All lodestone farming is Crap in this game and the developers know it and refuse to do anything about it. We have not even heard a response of any plans to make these rare items farmable.

We have exotics in this game that cost 350+ lodestones which is why no-one will ever get them.

totally agree with you. I checked the price of charged yesterday as those are the only thing I need to finish my Bolt. 3.45g cheapest (4 pieces) then the price goes up to 12g with total of around 600 of them listed on TP. I need 100 of them so I would need to spend around 400g just to buy them. Tried to farm them Malchors Leap but got none in like 6 hours. I got better luck with Destroyer ones – 3 drops in 3-4 hours, every day I tried to farm them. I dont even have full MF gear!

Seriously, we something must be done bout it. Starting to think I may have better chances with Clover recepies to get some of those…

Well, I usually played tank classes in previous MMOs then tried SWToR and played Gunslinger. Thief looked kinda similar and since I was used to dual pistols I thought I try that in GW2.
P/P build happened to be…. crap anyway but I liked thief class so I play it since then.

i dont understand this post, as far as i understand crafting is 100% profit when done the right way.

Depends what you mean by “the right” way. If you do not count the time you spend on gathering mats AND if you get them (aka grind) yourself + you spend a little time watching current TP trends you can make some gold. In most cases, however, the price of mats alone can be higher than an item made from them.

A lot of people tend to forget about this.

Crafting Feedback

as a dedicated crafter I would love to see more recepies (even cosmetic ones) but I kinda understand ANet approach. The end game revolves around skins mostly as every gear has more or less the same stat variations (crafted vs dropped). If people were able to buy dungeon armors there would be no point of doing the dungeons at all, no matter the price.

This would ruin economy as well as rip the sense of accomplishment from people who enjoy (grinding) dungeons. It has been a loooong time since I played an MMO where you could craft the best looking/stat holding gear.

If crafting something awesome had some risk of loosing all mats involved then I would understand it but current crafting system is just too straightforward.

If anyone remembers old Archlord MMO where you could loose your rare weapon while infusing it with stones to achieve crazy stats knows what I’m talking about.

Here’s an idea, what if Anet added useful craft-able gear, too bad they can’t since maxed stats are maxed and gear does not have special properties other than stats.

would be enough for crafters to be able to make some cool looking stuff instead of garbage looking, stat carrying stuff to transmute asap. OFC there are some pieces of armors and weapons that may look decent to some but 95% of craftable stuff looks terribly IMO. I still remember the disappontment when I crafted my first exotic helmet for my thief… then I crafted some exotic daggers/swords/bows… pearl ones…

Back to topic. As already mentioned I find crafting “proffitable” in few ways.
First I can use junk mats to make some greens and throw them into MF in hope to get some rares to salvage for ectos or gamble with getting a precursor. Good stuff if you trying to make legendary. Recepies for lvl 80 rares cost only few karma anyway and use mats you do not need for legendary.
Second, I can make stuff for my alts or myself if I need it (Magic Find gear or food) so that way I don’t waste gold I may need to buy mats required to make legendary weapon, right?
Third, TP still provides some opportunities sometimes so you can craft some gear or even crafting components that will sell quite nice. Especially if you use mats you got “by the way”.
Last but not least, you are able to transmute and refine raw mats so you can hold more in your collectible bank and save room in bags/regular bank for more important stuff. And if you are going for the legendary you will have to lvl up 1-2 crafts at least to be able to make some gifts anyway.

Talked to a pal few days ago and he said he spent about 15g when he hit 80 just to buy missing exotics. I got my lvl 80 exotics before I even hit 80 an it cost me only the time to farm nodes/salvage stuff (with basic kits) as I levelled up.

To sum up, crafting may not make you rich but will allow you to save a lot of coins.

same deal IMO. Mystic Coins are also needed in the proccess of making legendary (clovers) and as more and more ppl try to make those the demand will rise. Also loads of karma is needed so… Okittenarma you can farm as much as you want and there are various buffs to increase gain of it.

yesterday twilight was priced 800g on TP. IMO that’s quite cheap considering how much gold you need to invest if you wanted to buy everything needed (what can be bought ofc). On the other hand grinding 800g would take same amount of time and you would get most of the mats needed anyway.

1st run/day you get stuff to make some minis + big chest (with the usual blue drops 99% oftimes)
2nd+ run you get a choice of presents + bigh chest

As for grinding, this dungeon is so easy (even soloable) that it would hurt whatever is left of economy in this game if we would be able to get “awesome” loot every 30 mins, don’t ya think?

Really? I thought you always got rares. I got abyss die twice -_-

lucky you then. I tried to make dyes twice and always ended up with common ones. OP is right on one thing, it is way cheaper to buy unidentified dyes from TP and hope RNG is on your side. At least you have a chance to make some profit.

That is not completely true Shanseala. I have made about 12 gold over a 4 day period crafting and selling. Best part is I make about 50 copper per unit after buying all of the mats off of the trading post, then selling that item on the post. 50 copper really is not that much, but it adds up when you make a hundred or two sales per day.

this is true but not always. There was a time, about a week ago, when I made over 10g making only lvl 350 rare inscriptions and selling those for asking price. I used all my stacked mats that I knew I won’t need anymore. I could even make small profit just by buying needed mats from TP but yesterday the prices of Mithril alone made such money making impossible.

All depends on current demand. Sometimes it is worth investing in some rare, low level reciepies and sell those, sometimes you make more money selling only mats.

What chests can Precursors drop from?

I saw one guy linking precursor during Plinx event and claiming he got it from random mob drop. Is it true I cannot say for sure. However I did get some various Exotics (even “named” ones like Moonfang dagger) during doing various events in Orr so if Precursors are on the same loot tables as everything else but with like 0.000001% drop chance it is possible that you can get one from regular farming.

Now, it probably depends on MF stat to increase the chance of drop to the level that you will have a chance of dropping one in your lifetime

I could be wrong, but I think it will show whichever weapon is in your main hand.

I think you are right. I read somewhere on wiki that animation from mainhand weapon is shown.

I’ve already said that there are no means of acquiring a legendary if you played legit so far. Take your opportunities when you can like in phase 3 @ Lost shores.

Things will only go downhill from here. (Ectos climbing already to 27s each)
I’m about to get my own legendary and will stop there, since I wasn’t lucky or smart enough like other players who own more than 1.

I am not even amazed that some people have more than 3 precursors while I lost like 200g + countless rare drops + crafted rares so far in Mystic Toilet, bad luck. But I am still annoyed when I see people with more than 1 legendary. Maybe I am not a hardcore player but I do play 4-5 hours a day since headstart and I am not even close to getting most of the mats for gifts/whatever.

I must’ve missed some serious shortcut to getting precursors/legendaries.
