Bas.7406

Yet again, it is my proudest pleasure to unveil the 4th episode of the podcast Arrow To The Knee.
In today’s episode, me and Battosai welcome Jubskie, an EU All-around Ranger player with some very strong notions on one of the most hardest versions of the Ranger game play – The Power Ranger.
In this podcast you will find a very long and informative journey into what defines this build, as we touch base with what I have proudly named (with Jubskie’s help of course) the Dirty Dirty 505 build (30-30-5-0-5) which is the definition of the glass like power based Ranger.
From this point onward we run down every detail, we go down every rabbit hole. We talk about weapons and pets, combos, skills and traits. We even managed to talk about one the most unexpected things to find in the Ranger – Bursting ability.
We tried to cover this build type in depth, as you will find situational info on most contexts (pvp/wvw/pve).

It is our hope that you find this episode worth your while. Jubskie as done an invaluable job in helping us to present this Ranger type build. Definitely a “must listen to”.
As always, thanks for taking the time to listen to our work and remember, leave the bears at home, when out headhunting, they will appreciate it(and so will you, trust us).

Osmoz,

Glad you have hung on this long. Unfortunately there is a massive learning curve for pvp that is not easily figured out. However there are a few sources.

Here is a guild for players interested in pvp teams and has a great group of players who are just there to help out: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/GW2Esports-LFG-Do-you-need-a-team/page/4#post2107299

You can also check out some of the pvp videos and guides at youtube.com/soacgaming we try to get some great instructional videos for players by other players. Find the profession you like. We also have a show called L2Play that is for newer and veteran players that goes on every week.

Ultimately mate, if you think it could/should be done better, throw your own hat in the ring.

That’s not exactly easy. I’ve been doing some hot join shoutcasting the last 2-3 weekends and the only chance I have to getting a shot is if tournament organizers invite me or I can get some teams willing to scrim with me shoutcasting to practice real matches. It doesn’t matter if you are better, but whether or not you’re now a “big name” or at least that’s how I feel.

You are correct, and I would recommend a few steps to take if you want to get more involved. Unfortunately, as an organizer we have to look at numbers and who will bring in viewers and that leaves newer players kind of out of the loop.

My recommendation is that either you link up with a casting organization such as: http://www.reddit.com/r/gw2esports/comments/1f5i71/towerdivetv_is_hiring_new_casters_for_guild_wars_2/ or you get out and work as an independent and keep posting your information or email the guys running the events with a tape.

I know personally, I like giving people a shot, for the fun tournaments we put on, but I don’t have any idea who the shoutcasters are, and rarely actually do much more than talk with Android about a possible shoutcaster. However, when we do the fun tournaments we will basically only look at the people that have contacted us about the opportunity.

Organizers don’t seek out new shoutcasters, we simply run with the guys we know. It’s one thing out of the way. Such as I will contact blu or towerdive for the tournaments because i know them, and they know me. They tell me if they want to do a tournament, and I look at the list and say okay or that we already have it covered.

If I don’t have anyone who emailed us as an independent, than I just hand it off to one of them after talking to our team about it. So if you aren’t actively knocking on doors or aligned with one of the bigger names it will be ridiculously tough to get involved, I don’t watch tapes, and I know for a fact not a single organizer goes out looking for shoutcasters as we don’t have too.

Send your links to them, email them, follow up with them, and keep checking with them for any work. While you are doing that, keep doing scrims, jumping onto the shows like Server Down with Sireph to get your name out a bit more, and above all practice what you do in down time! For an Organizer down time aka dead air is the thing I don’t want to see. I hate dead air, or inane conversations, or inside jokes. Figure out what you are going to do in dead time, and do a sample piece of a full 2 set match along with a short clip.

Shoutcasters don't know depth.

Bas.7406

GW2 pvp is new.

Rhetoric, broadcasting, elocution, and diction are not.

That said, our shoutcasters are not professionals (yet? asked with optimisms).

Blu, Bas, Grouch, tehMaker, et al. are doing a fantastic job for being volunteers who are players and fans themselves.

Give them a break, because they are only going to get better

Don’t forget that much of the reason the casters “miss” any of the action is due to the same problems that plague spectator mode, particularly a complete lack of being able to distinctly identify which teams’s spells/fields are in play short of watching the players skillbar and not the action.

I personally think that is the biggest hold up to lively shoutcasting.

Stop harping on the casters, they are this community’s most positive aspect, hands down.

While I greatly appreciate being mentioned as a shoutcaster, there is no actual evidence that I have ever shoutcasted a game :P. I appreciate having my name in there with the others, but I don’t shoutcast nor would I be good at play by play. I might do some color commentating if I was allowed to wax poetically about a Zombify epidemic or was able to cry out Caed is about to move in for a kill.

I do agree with the consensus that in general the shoutcasting was not their best performance, but I believe that neither Blu nor Grouch feel they are the best at what they do as of yet. I have no doubt that both will take this as a learning experience and focus on training and working on their skills.

I have to admit that I once tried to shoutcast, but have destroyed all evidence of that happening. It’s not an easy job, and I will be doing an SOAC Presents with several shoutcasters to talk about how shoutcasting works. I have also asked to sit in on a few of TDTV’s training sessions to see the amount of work they put into the craft.

I will suggest that in further cooperative tournaments that they pick clearly defined roles. Grouch is a play by play man, and Blu should do color. Grouch’s indepth knowledge and ability to call out exactly what was happening was often interrupted by BLu trying to do the same thing. CLearly defined roles will help in the future.

Blu has a better excitement level at key moments, while Grouch is much better at dictating the action in a fight. I think in future events if they stick to this they will work much better together. Besides, Blu if you want to be the funny and cool guy you can’t do play by play :P.

My favorite shoutcasting moment in the tournament was when Blu got really excited about Funday Monday, and Grouch just deadpanned the entire replies. Blu “IT’s FUNDAY MONDAY!” Grouch deadpans “Really Funday monday? That’s what you are calling it?” BLU “IT’s AWESOME WE PLAY THESE GAMES THAT I INVENTED.”
Grouch never moving his voice one way or the other – Really you invented them? I must give you credit for my childhood then. Hide and seek that must have been great."

I almost fell out of my seat at that moment.

In the SOAC Presents show today, Jon Sharp talked for some time about the concerns that many Necromancers feel left out in the cold. We continued to talk about certain aspects of the necromancer. Granted we didn’t get exactly the answer we wanted, but it was good to finally tell him, look here is why we aren’t wanted in tournaments. He did mention that they are watching the NA tournament because there are Necromancers present in this tournament to see how things look.

I am sure the warriors though were more excited about the fact that he said they haven’t done enough. I know many of you sent me very specific class questions, and they have been forwarded to grouch for the SOTG.

I believe the class balance questions came up about 30-45 minutes into the show.

GW2Esports [LFG] - Do you need a team?

in Looking for...

Posted by: Bas.7406

Bas.7406

The Flightless Predatory Birds (temporary name-possibly) is now recruiting players for a 15 member squad!

We are looking for active competitive players for a core group, to more casual players who are looking to build skill and get their name out into the community. Our goal is to eventually have 1-2 teams representing us in tournaments like SOAC/MotM.

If you are interested, message Black Avarice in-game and I’ll get you into some matches with us asap. Our core group will be semi-selective on profession to ensure a competitive composition, but besides that the main requirement will be friendly cooperative players who can rep with dignity. We are sticking with small numbers now, for organization purposes but are extending it to 3 teams essentially to guarantee we always have practice members or subs around so all members begin to develop different comps/team synergy. We are hoping to be a new force in the PvP community as well as a launching pad for other competitive teams once we get our feet under us.

We are definitely looking to push meta boundaries and I personally have a growing obsession with off meta builds. So if you have that wierd build that nobody gets but is extremely effective in your hands, you may find a home here.

Avarice, just a tip, while leagues like Mist League and SOAC Tournaments allow two teams to rep as long as they have a seperate title. Some of the heavier and larger tournaments will only allow 1 team per Guild/Team. OP and SOAC both have two teams, and it can be a bit tough to get them both in certain tournaments.

I did get to watch both my teams scrim against each other last night, and it was incredible to watch.

Ide sooner take a champion over a r 40 anyday , just my 2 cents worth . Ive seen champions @ r 20 + just saying

I am a champion with r 24, but I definitely would not be able to play in a tournament against guys rank 40 and above. There is just a different level of experience that comes with that many games, and if you can get an r40 hot join hero to buy into your team philosophy you get a much shorter curve for your team.

Why necromancers don't quite cut it (by Zzod)

Bas.7406

I S/TPvP, and I wanted to try necro for a change of pace. My necro was actually my first level 80. PvPing with my necro was like banging my head against a brick wall. Either I wasn’t doing it right, or it’s that weak compared to other classes. Unless someone can enlighten me, and tell me I was probably doing it wrong (MM build), then I’ll shelf it for now.

Unless you are talking about playing high level tPvP games (pre-made v pre-made ladder teams/comps) you can have fun and do fine with a necromancer, but it requires a significantly higher level of skill to be effective than other professions.

As a necro you have no mobility and no “get out of jail free” stun breaks/invulns on a reasonable cd. I never cared for minions in PvP myself, but plenty of necro’s do run them effectively in low level tPvP.

My advice would be to build tanky in the beginning in order to extend your survivability and get you through the learning curve. A Shaman’s amulet terror build is kind of like training wheels in low levels. You should be able to wear down opponents and survive reasonably well. Also, try to stay in/near team fights and carry Sig of Undeath. Your best defense if having someone alive to peel for you in the area.

Myrmidian is correct. You can’t say it any better. I play berzerker MM in tpvp, and Bhawb plays bunker, but in high level play the sheer volume of dangerous aoe, and the chance that a Necro could epi off a minion and wipe out your team is too much.

That was my point, I didn’t mean it as he had no opinion of the matter, but I think we have both come to the conclusion that neither of us stated our point correctly, and wanted to try talking about the Necro’s place in torunaments, but thank you!

Why necromancers don't quite cut it (by Zzod)

in Necromancer

Posted by: Bas.7406

Bas.7406

Wow, this thread went all over the place haha. I saw Zzods forum post, and I have read most of these. I even brought up these points with Gibbly and Zombify who are probably two of the top Necro’s in tournament play right now.

I could not comment on high level play as I am not playing it.

In regards to Zzods weapon choices and skill choices, it’s obvious he doesn’t have a ton of experience with the necro based on the fact that he misstated how a lot of skills work that are evident to most players. Including the axe options, Axe 3 plus Axe 2 timing after a dodge is amazing in tpvp. No self-respecting Axe wielding Necro just throws out Axe 2. You always wait for the dodge axe 2 boom.

However he is absolutely correct in that the real issues with the Necromancer only come up when you get up to the top levels of tournament play. So I went to the guys who still play the class in tournaments, Symbolic of EU (went ranger for 80 percent of the maps), Zombify of SOAC, and Gibbly of JFK.

Here is a synopsis of their replies to me over the last week.

1). The Necromancer is incredibly powerful if played correctly. You have to be more aware of your positioning, and when played right and you stay within your position it’s one of the most beautiful classes in the game. It synergizes well in team play and you can literally win a team fight by proper application of CB and Epidemic.

2). They have a ridiculously tough time with certain comps that have classes that can attack your positioning with impunity aka Double Engi comps.

3). If you get out of position you are screwed. They used more choice words, but their essential them was the Necro is the only class that relies so much on positioning and that if you aren’t watching and get caught out of position you are royally screwed.

4). You have to have a peeler. If your team doesn’t have a peeler find a new team or switch classes. Guardians/Ele’s/mesmers are peelers and they need to be specced and aware of their role as peelers. If they aren’t or they miss a peel you are screwed.

5). You have no business roaming or moving away from the main fight where your peeler and guardian are. You are the slowest class in the game and even with Spectral walk you will only get caught by the Thief/Ele/Ranger roamer and then you are dead.

6) The lack of any sort of disengage, vigor, or easy stability access is what hurts the class. All we want is one of them. Give me one of the three and I am a happy man, make DS 2 a port, or make Spectral Armor give Stability or jsut give me a better vigor access so I can choose to use DS offensively.

7). Fear is the single greatest weapon we have. Our weapons are not designed to deal damage but to setup our tools to help other players kill.

8) The necro is so close to being perfect and so dangerously close to being op, that any adjustment that’s too far in the benefit direction would immediately create a disadvantage to anyone we face. All we know is that we need a few minor changes.

9) There are maps where because of the Necro’s lack of stability/disengage/mobility it’s better to either sub out your necro for a player that can actually be effective or swap professions (namely Khylo and Spirit Watch).

After watching players play in the torunaments I must say I agree with them, the Necro is beautiful to watch in the hands of an expert, but there are some severe deficiencies that prevent it from really being a strong tournament class.

You’ve said it yourself, an engi can play a condy build better than a necro, a thief would be better than a power necro, a guardian would be better than a bunker necro, why should someone take a necro over another class from a min max perspective. If esports is the way anet wants this game to go then they NEED to achieve decent balance, and if certain classes are so subpar that no team is willing to run them without needing to babysit then what’s the point, just take another class and be rid of that worry.

Guardian, Rangers, and Mesmer’s are all better Bunker’s than the Necro. I wouldn’t say a Thief is better than a power necro as both are really easy to counter. A shatter Mesmer is better than a power Necro. A condi engineer is better than a condi necro in specific maps and team comps. A necro can apply the pressure if you have the right team comp.

I whole heartedly agree that there are certain classes that need to be looked at for highest levels of play. However the class is not broken it just needs some tweaking. The car didnt’ break down it just needs it’s tires rotated and the engine tuned up so to speak.

All classes have counters – engineers can be taken out completely by a good ele or mesmer Check out the EU MotM. As soon as Teldo ran into a good ele he was useless. A good Necro can take down a good ele especially in a team fight.

I do not know Bobjoe, his opinion you created yourself mate.
pls re read my post, do i say anywhere that I, based on my 450 hours exp think that his opinion is worthless, re read my last post past all the trolling, seriously its all just the truth about necros atm

The Engineer might be your cup of tea than, but I know engineers who feel they have wasted their entire time on a class they feel is broken as well.

The Necromancer in pve and wvwvw is fine except in strike force situations or in it’s ability to escape. It has major issues in certain maps and team comps in tournament play, but it is not broken or underpowered in any manner.

The reason engineers are favored over Necromancers in touranment play is they have a larger volume of condition damage skills meaning it’s tougher to clear the painful ones, and they can apply the damage ones faster. Plus they can disengage.

The ability to disengage and reapply condition damage abilities faster makes the engineer better for torunament play comps. Most teams don’t want to babysit a class which is why you will never see a warrior, and will rarely see a Necro.

However to say they are worse is incorrect. The class does an amazing amount of pressure, and Terror gives the necro some serious burst. They just can’t disengage by themselves which is what’s important.

Stop saying “This might make us too powerful!”
We have been nerfed to a point that one or two traits will not make us “too powerful” even if they give 10 seconds of invulnerability every 20 seconds.
Few small changes will not put us out of balance, what ANet is afraid of , is the major and/or many minor changes.

How many people are saying the necro is bad atm?
If he actually did read the posts then would know dam well that the necro doesn’t even compete with most other classes, him saying otherwise being OBLIVIOUS to the situation isnt helping no one, kitten man grow some balls and talk about how bad the class is, maybe some criticism is what is needed around here for the devs to finally pull their fingers out.
I never said based on my 450 hours, I said that my necro has 450 hours, i regret every seconds wasted on it because my engineer which i’ve not played nearly as much is so much better. if you actually read my post ….
I would never disregard someones opinion based on game time played since most people’s playtimes are probably from them afking in LA.

Keep in mind that Hundred Blades channeling is just half a second longer.
Why aren’t there all Necromancer in that speed-kill build? Do you think that if they brought Necromancers instead of warriors they would have made a better time?
3. Necro has way less damage boosting traits. Despite the fact that the base damage is similiar, they have less way to boost them via traits.

The time difference between a Necro run and a run with warriors is maybe a minute. That’s all. The biggest difference is that a warrior with 100b dies quickly if he screws up. The Necro doesn’t.

As for your last point you are correct. The traits we do have that boost damage are subpar boosts compared to other classes.

I’d like to meet the people who said that Necro is an incredibly powerful and versatile class and listen to their reasoning.

Anyway, the math behind the dps calculation of the Necro/Warrior is just wrong.

Warriors can deal 5k damage only with a Greatsword swing while stacking vulnerability or 4k per axe hit, which is actually faster, but without vulnerability.

Assuming that you’re running Dagger MH, you are doing less damage without stacking vulnerability, about 1k for each of the first hits, 1.5k the 3rd and 3k on the 4th, which is 6.5k. So a full dagger chain is one hit and an half of an axe warrior.
If you are using Axe MH, your damage is even lower. You hardly hit 1.5k with a full autoattack and never deal more than 8k damage with Ghastly Claws.
Well of Suffering is just a little unreliable (because it is a PBAoE) damage boost on a 45s cooldown.

Do you really think they are on par damage-wise? Seriously, get real.

Where are you getting your numbers from? I hit almost 2k on a full berzerker axe auto, my axe 2 channel properly specced hits 9k easily on bosses, and I have seen numbers as high as 17k with proper setup.

Dagger Chain can hit upwards of 13k if you are properly specced and geared. Your numbers are all over the map you toss numbers about Warriors with gear numbers, and then throw out Necro numbers from ungeared?

Dagger chain plus wells will wipe out any single person who doesn’t get out if it. I have seen 20-27k get dropped off a player in the middle of a double well/dagger 1 chain. Can we do the 30k in one single skill no, but I wouldn’t want the amount of fragility and lack of control the warrior has during that chain either..

A) you suck at jumping puzzles and harpy fractal DS/Swalk trick, your arguments are invalid (little starting joke/half truth)
B) Necros are the only ones that can legally (as in without exploits) go above 50 in factals because of how DS and conditions/agony/non direct damage ticks work (especially with 50% off DS and flesh wurm/sgrasp and they can also get multiple hammers on blue man group giant allowing for more glitchy fast finish of the final seal)
C) I still think shade should replace foot in the grave… (at least by effect) aslo maybe change out DS from black leather textures to Orr wraith/small lich for norn/Baelfire in green for charr.

A). I don’t just suck at jumping puzzles. I am completely inept at them where if they were to hold a contest to see if I can finish any of them without falling off I would never win :P. The Fractal thing was lag issues galore, my connection was so bad it was like seeing a 3d movie without glasses ;p.

B). I was under the impression that DS now forces you to drop the hammer? Is this not correct? I will take your word for it though since you are the dungeon king. Which btw, they really need to give a title to the three or four people like Andele who have not only done every dungeon, but spent an inordinate amount of time playing them that they can recite the actual statements of the boss mobs while going through it. I am totally pumped to watch Gibbly run with you in one of the Dungeon runs.

C). I would have to agree with you on this one. I just want the graphics to be visible enough that I don’t try and heal necros in DS.

In this week’s informational podcast, Danto takes the week off to prep for tournaments and a vacation so Beard is left to weather the storm alone. Have no fear though, because Christos one of the top Guardian WvWvW players is on the way. Beard and Christos have a great conversation about defending keeps, playing zergs, support and damage builds. Along with all different fun adventures a guardian can have in wvwvw play.

GW2Esports [LFG] - Do you need a team?

Could we please stop calling sPvP an eSport, when it has nothing to do with eSports. At least yet. I mean, it can barely be refereed to as a popular game at the moment, so it really just comes of as sounding ignorant. It’s equivalent to calling yourself an NBA player, after you’ve played basketball for a few months.

Can we stop posting angry retorts against honest efforts to get esports started? Can we calm down long enough to take a look at what is happening and either lend a hand in building a foundation or get out of the way so we can lay a smooth foundation?

Can we stop sounding so ignorant about everything that we don’t like or think we know more about? Can we stop thinking that bashing something with anger and vicious attacks is the best way to solve a disagreement? Can we let people just enjoy what they enjoy doing for 5 minutes before taking a flame to their bodies over believing that something may just happen?

Can we at least take a breath and say maybe someday it might just happen? Can we stop crushing the dreams of people everytime someone clicks their heels 3 times and tries to go home?

Can we stop getting posts by players who haven’t done anything at all for anyone but themselves or have done zero to actually move a community forward to stop posting? Is there a way we can just ban people that do nothing but post negative comments?

Can we hold a conference and jsut say if you haven’t posted one constructive thing every 5 times you post you can no longer post anything? Can we stop with the pointless drivel of those who hate GW2 tournament play, but feel they have to comment and start multiple threads to hide the ones trying to build something?

Once we do all those things, than we can come to some sort of an agreement with you.

Well… you guys know i would love to participate, the only problem is that thirstday is a bad day for me. If somehow we can turn that into a friday i will be forever grateful.

ps: since it would be a bit… unfair if any of us have their POV streamed, perhaps we should get a 6th member which could act as the “camera man”, maybe even commentate.

except that would be impossible in a tournament queue as far as I am aware.

Arrow To The Knee: June 12th - Euranatien!

Once again, it is my pleasure to welcome you to another episode of your favorite Ranger podcast.

In this episode we recieve Xsorus, who will help us understand a bit more on how the WvWvW Ranger can wreak havoc with his roaming ways. We also talk about the currently most feared of Ranger builds, the gut wrenching, panic inducing, BeastMaster Ranger!

The choice to combine subjects, in this post, like WvW roaming and the BeastMaster build, is not fortuitous at all. The BeastMaster seems specificly designed for this type of gameplay, since he boasts both great survival and massive condition pressure. Of course, let us not forget our trusty sidekick, that can, with 30% more stats, be one of the ultimate poking and harassing tools in the game. Even more so after the last patch, where our endeared little friends have recieved substancial survival stats (vitality across the board and toughness to some of the families).

In this podcast, there is so much information flying around, we literally had to interrupt the recording, to stop the onslaught. The idea remains, the podcast could’ve actually have gone for another hour %)

We hope you enjoy this podcast, as it is extremely fun making them. See you on the next episode.
And remember, our pets can beat up the World. And if you’re going player hunting, please leave the bears at home.

Still haven’t received an invitation.

We are aware that many players are waiting on invites. They are doing what they can look for the gw2esports subreddit invite. There is a limit to how many invites can be sent at one time we have numerous players who haven’t accepted the invite and that is preventing us from sending out more.

Getting 2 strong Epidemics, and 2 good Corrupt Boons on any competent group is nothing short of absolute miraculous luck.

It was hilariously funny too. If you watch the fight, and I will try to find the timestamp for that fight. We were all laughing because they were in a massive charge, and it was boom boom boom dead!

One good condi Terrormancer can wipe out 5-player group in tpvp only If he knows how to position himself.

A single Epidemic can completely wipe a team. It requires coordination, however, and frankly very few teams show the coordination to actually throw out good Epidemic’s consistently; and most of those teams are EU and don’t run condi cleave comps.

And Thiefs can wipe out entire teams without losing a single hip point…

Don’t make absurd claims. Show video proof. I highly doubt both statements quoted above and would love to see proof.

About halfway through the video you will find evidence of three Necro’s destroy a leaderboard leading team. (Acandis got rofl’stomped)

Take a look Two corrupt boons and 2 epidemics an entire party wiped off the map. That’s what anet is scared of. Video proof is easy. The problem is in a high end tournament game, the players won’t be stupid enough to just get trained there, and The necromancer will need a babysitter, if you watch the same match you will notice that they started splitting us from the pack and killing us off easily.

For clarification, juking spells is worthless unless you’re trying to make someone waste an interrupt cooldown. Cancelling a spell triggers the same 4-second cooldown that is triggered when a spell is interrupted.

So if you don’t actually need to heal but want someone to waste an interrupt, juke a heal. But if you’re trying to juke World of Warcraft-style (cast, juke, interrupt, immediately re-cast), it’s not worth it.

Just clarifying this because it might be confusing for people coming from other MMOs.

I was a bit confused :P. Thanks for clearing that up. I was trying it yesterday and going hmmm, there is still a CD.
