RtL got nerfed in PvE as well when there was no need for it. Or Arcane Wave’s cooldown in beta.
This la-la land where balance changes for one format don’t affect the other is more the exception than the rule.
RTL was nerfed for wvwvw, where it was needed. The only place you would need it in open world pve or Dungeons it doesn’t matter if it was nerfed. It had no bearing on those situations. In wvwvw and pvp rtl had to be nerfed. Reminder, it wasn’t nerfed if you actually hit a target. If you dont’ hit someone you get 40 second cd. This is a good change.
Show starts in 1 hour!
Yeah Bas you make a good point. That only applies to pvp though. Some people play other aspects of the game also , and if Anet track record has proven anything , they most likely mess up wvw, dungeon rangers in the process while trying to fine tune their precious future ‘e-sport’
Standing on a point isn’t the apex of gaming evolution for everyone :P
I was only commenting on the pvp side, because SOTG has zero to do with pve or wvwvw. Unfortunately at this point there is no SOTG for WvWvW or PVE. Though from conversations I have had this may be coming soon.
You have 3 possible but all of them take 30 in Arcana. Engineers have 2, Guardians 2, Rangers 2, Necros 1/2, Thieves 3, Mesmer’s 1 maybe 2, Warriors 0.
he is technically correct.
The ranger wasn’t commented on because SOTG is a PVP related venue, and right now outside of a Longbow power build or traps being really viable there are rangers on just about every team, and the BM ranger is incredibly powerful. It’s a bit crazy that you can send the drake to the center point and still be able to back cap, because the drake is kind of like a player all by himself.
Because of the issues that Necromancers and Warriors currently face in the tournaments, and it was very evident in the last tournament that when those two classes are focused they go down regardless of spec. This isn’t true of the ranger, and so they spent an extended time on the two classes that are poorly represented and really weak in the current state of tournament play.
While you have two viable builds, the Warrior and Necro have zero, Guardians have 2, Mesmers have 1 maybe 2, Elementalist have 2, and in fact I think everyone has 2 except the two classes they spent the most time talking about.
So you are currently in the same state as every other profession in terms of pvp and tournament play.
I can’t seem to get the video to produce any sound (even though everything else is working fine). So I’ll just ask here:
Was anything mentioned along the lines of our horrendously long kitten cool downs?
Yes they mentioned they want to increase our ability to use the conditions we have by speeding up the activation times, and I took it to mean that meant cast times or cooldowns.
At 5:30pm PST/GMT-8, Team Sleepy will appear on this week’s edition of SOAC Presents at twitch.tv/soacgaming. We will cover the last few tournaments and the amazing and exciting world of upcoming tournaments. We will talk about how life has changed for them since the first tournament, what they are looking forward to, what teams they most want to face, tips and tricks for new teams, what they feel makes them successful, and we will have a Q & A with viewers. Near the end of the show, Team Sleepy is going to be making an exciting announcement. Don’t miss out!
Tonight 5:30pm PST/GMT-8 on http://www.twitch.tv/soacgaming
Please let me know if you have any Questions for the guys from Team Sleepy!
Chap watched the BoC last night, and I am glad he heard the level of complaints about trying to heal and then a Necro pops ds and it’s completely pointless. I think we hit him 3 times with the same question in 2 weeks. First on SOAC Presents than again on BoC last night when Andele and/or someone else mentioned it three times to him, and then today with the SOTG.
I love it that even those who want Necromancers on their team have found working with them to be incredibly difficult. Our damage has never been an issue it’s always the lack of sustain and lack of control to offset our lack of beneficial boons. This is good news. I really liked that they addressed the concerns about cast and activation times.
Okay guys it should be fixed
http://sittingonacouch.com/guild-wars-2-necromancer-podcast-but-of-corpse-ep-16/
Please let me know if there are any issues
My guess is that dev don’t know themself ,what necro should be.
If Thief should be the max burst dmg, Guard best defender with good support, etc.
What should be a necro ?!
Actually on last night’s But of Corpse, Chaplan made a guest chat appearance and stated this (I am paraphrase as he was in chat with about 30 necromancers answering questions).
“The Necromancer has no access to vigor and limited boon access by design. Our goal was that the Necromancer not be a class that avoids or protects damage through boons, but rather through conditions and “anti-boon”. They want the Necromancer to not be highly mobile, but to be a class that uses conditions to prevent any mobile class from escaping. The goal is to have them use conditions to prevent other classes from being stronger, and to win battles of attrition. This is not currently where they are at, but the lack of Vigor/Stability and Boons is by design and not one we are going to change. They do feel we do not have enough access to the conditions that matter such as more cripple, chill, poison, and weakness. We want weakness to be stronger, and thus allow the Necromancer to use it to prevent damage and thereby win the battle of attrition. Currently the Necro does not have enough return to be a class. Our goal is that when someone goes to battle with a Necromancer they know the Necromancer is not leaving, and they are going to have a really hard time getting away from the Necromancer. Essentially they will regret the battle and have to think twice about it. So tune into the state of the game we think you guys are going to really like this next patch."
That is a paraphrase of the 45 minutes that Chaplan spent in the live chat of the But of Corpse show. It was an incredible and exciting time. I did not do him justice, but he left the 30 or so Necromancers pretty excited about the SOTG.
Okay so we figured out the issues with the audio and are fixing it as we speak. We should have the fixed one ready within a couple hours.
Just tried listening to the podcast, is Black Avarice’s voice fixed because his replies are blank. Also the video says it is private and is not viewable.
Sorry about that it’s fixed now. the replies are blank on the audio?
In this week’s exciting But of Corpse episode, Gibbly and Bhawb take it live again. Everyone was looking forward to hearing from Nay of the Ether, but a few technical and communication issues prevented us from getting him on. However, stepping forward was none other than Black Avarice. Black Avarice is one of the newer tournament Necros, and definitely likes to think outside the box. Gibbly, Bhawb, and Avarice get the chance to talk to the Necro community about broken abilities, ways to improve the Necromancer, and how to build a team to help the Necromancer.
We even had a special chat guest in Jonathan Chaplan who decided to hop in and try and explain some common misunderstandings about the design of the Necromancer. He even offered to come on a later show!
http://sittingonacouch.com/guild-wars-2-necromancer-podcast-but-of-corpse-ep-16/
Btw, Chaplan recommened that the Necro community pay attention to this upcoming SOTG. He said he is really excited for the Necromancers about the next patch. Plus he did give us some hints.
1) We will not be getting any more access to vigor or endurance by design.
2). They don’t want us to worry about boons, but to worry about condition control. We are supposed to be the anti-boon kings, but it’s not working so we should listen because they feel they have the answer
3). We are supposed to be the masters of preventing escapes, and not be able to chase people down. He said, their goal is to make sure we make people regret getting into a fight with us.
btw, crackle if you have any videos of you in action please let us know so we can check them out.
Unfortunately, I don’t—but I’ll work on that. Also, it’s Grackleflint with a “G”.
I also want to thank Amadeus and Asteria Rose for being so welcoming and easy to talk with. You both made being on the podcast a lot of fun.
Fixed it and made the change. I actually have not listened to it yet, but it’s on my playlist for my 3 hour drive tonight. I am totally pumped!
I finally finished the Jubskie Podcast. I thought the Xsorus one was the best podcast until this one. I seriously am going to have to listen to it again when I am on my ranger just to do some fun testing and try everything out.
I am blown away by how detailed and intricate the gameplay of rangers are. I think the last two ranger episodes should be mandatory to every single player who thinks rangers don’t have variety or are interesting. If I can ever convince Jin and Battosai to take the show live I think it will be incredible. I would love to hear if Hrouda listened to the last few episodes.
Jin Drake has been rolling on his Buscemi impersonations :P. Battosai is incredible to listen to with the way he talks about testing builds. I had no idea anyone did the amount of testing on just pets alone as Jubskie did.
Thank you guys for a fantastic podcast, and even if I had nothing to do with this show I would listen to it. The last two episodes have made fans of several Mesmer players who figured they would check it out.
Keep up the great work!
The audio and youtube version will be up today though I would recommend listening to the audio only this time :P
btw, crackle if you have any videos of you in action please let us know so we can check them out.
In Engenious episode 2, Asteria Rose and Amadeus sits down with Crackleflint, and discuss the Engineer’s beloved, and yet hated, utility skill, Turrets! We discussed are turret’s truely viable, and which difficulties they currently have? We will laugh and share the joy of keeping a sneaky Theif permanent CC’ed, and the pain and frustration when your Net Turret start shooting at the Mesmers Illusions or get instant destroyed by a boss AoE!
So from our fantastic Engineer Hosts, we want to thank every single Engineer fan and say, “TRUST US, WE ARE ENGINEERS”
http://sittingonacouch.com/guild-wars-2-engineer-podcast-engineous-ep-2/
As a reminder the show will be live every Tuesday Morning at 10am PST/GMT-8! The first two to three guests are already lined up, and they will definitely be contacting the PVE crowd. Hopefully RFF and Auesis will be able to help them locate other pve players to allow us to focus on all things Thief.
Join us live in just a few hours talking Minions and Support with Nay of the Ether @ http://www.twitch.tv/soacgaming
They are only looking for the gw2 holy 5
That’s because there are only 7 professions currently for tournament play :P. Though I heard Banners might be worth getting as long as the warrior stands far away from everyone on the team.
You know that kinda wont work if the same thing happens that was earlier (as in only nay is on and representing)… We really need some callendar/organization for pve stuff (like dungeons on X and Y days, a run of some fun JPs on A, fractals on B and C, etc).
Andele,
We are working on a calendar for the new website. I will be sure to add these functions for contributors and podcasters to post the events. I am sorry that the run didn’t go off as planned.
BTW, if anyone is wondering more about bhawb he did recently appear in a podcast called barelyrelevant.com, to help promote GW2 and SOAC.
(edited by Moderator)
Ovi is on our list as is Eura, I did forget about Follidus, but we will add him to our list. Our guest list is over 15-20 people long right now so we are doing what we can to get everyone in. I will give these names to Jin Drake and Battosai.
30 minutes in – PvE seems to have come and gone. I would have liked to discuss some of the PvE aspects more – the only point that was covered was the bog-standard “Warriors do it better”, which applies to more than just Thief.
I haven’t bothered to produce content that is as in-depth as RFF (though I would like to put in more effort in to my own content when I have time), but I would at least have something to say. Thief Dungeons/PvE is pretty much all I do.
That said, there might be more PvE stuff mentioned in here, but I just haven’t reached it – just my initial thoughts.
I will be sure to forward your information on to our hosts. I had put some requests out earlier, but no one on the pve side responded at all. This makes it extremely difficult for me to get guests and/or opinions on their viability. Since neither host really spends a large amount of time in pve, and the object of the show was to introduce the hosts we spent time talking about the stuff they played. I can guarantee our goal is to have a fully indepth show.
In fact, I listen to each of the podcast, and if I notice that it’s been focusing too much on one aspect for several shows, then I send them a letter and we do everything we can to make sure the next show is not that one aspect.
Legit surprised you don’t have any of my thief pve content in there.
He has a good point. I respect RFF for being one of the few (only?) good PvE thieves that I know.
If you’re going to talk PvE/dungeons at all, or include guides on the subject, you simply can’t skip over RFF.
Now that I know who he is we will make sure to see about being a guest.
Legit surprised you don’t have any of my thief pve content in there.
I put out a request in each forums stating that I was looking to add videos to our youtube channel, and that if you would like your videos to please send us a link to your channel. I only recieved a few thief links.
I have always made it a point not to link videos where the creater of the video has not given me his permission. I will take your post here as permission to link your videos to our fan base. Thank you for this. I really always wondered about the thief in pve.
I find my biggest gripe with the longbow (besides the speed of the autoattack vs how poor the damage is below 1000 range) is that rapid fire does equal to less damage as the shortbow autoattack until around gaining ~3000 attack rating(and even then, it isn’t much more damage), which to me gives it a pseudo-burst feeling; it isn’t truly a stronger burst weapon than the shortbow, but the function of its skills give it the feel that it is a burst weapon.
Just my thoughts on that bit from the beginning (basically, adding stronger role distinction would increase weapon viability/versatility).Overall, nice podcast, though I’ll never be convinced of going glass cannon on any class. Why play risk-reward when I can survive and thrive? haha.
Keep up the good work on the podcasts. I wish there was a more tpvp oriented podcast with a ranger from a high ranked team (other than just Battosai) to discuss rangers, although ultimately that would just be another BM bunker discussion, and would probably delve more into why BM bunker is such an effective/optimized build at what it does.
Still, seeing some top players discuss why some current high tier ranger justifies a shortbow on a BM bunker while another disagrees, and discussions of those natures (pvp weapon/build optimization) would be and extremely interesting podcast.
I think we first have to get a high ranked tpvp ranger besides Battosai. The only other Ranger I really know that’s really good is Eura. I am sure Vyndetta and maybe one other guy I can’t think of the name who is in the tournaments regularly.
The audio is now up and rolling!
It’s the first ever Thief podcast by sittingonacouch.com. We are absolutely excited to have both Jumper and Markus Valadir. Join us for the first episode as we discuss all things related to the Thief. We find out what’s wrong with Pistol/Pistol. The differences between WvWvW thief playstyle and tournament playstyle, and most importantly where are all the thieves in dungeons.
Future Episodes will air Tuesday’s at 10am PST/GMT-8 — www.twitch.tv/soacgaming
http://sittingonacouch.com/guild-wars-2-thief-podcast-revealed-episode-1/
I am about halfway through this most recent podcast, and it is absolutely amazing. I want to send it out to every single tournament ranger and possible ranger player and say listen to this it’s awesome.
Though I must say the fact that the current highlight is whenever Jin aka Buscemi says power ranger someone in the background starts humming the theme song to Go Go power rangers, and I almost fall over because Jin never catches on.
Fantastic Podcast Guys!
ehm whats the exact purpose of the rank limit?
example im r40 but since at start there were only hotzergs, my skills are definetly lower than like nemesis r27
or is it because if u have a member like me, u have a higher chance to get matched against a stronger ful r50+ team?
This is an actual tournament and not a tournament queue. A rank 40 player has a skill level usually that would destroy a rank 25 player. If you ahve a group of rank 40 versus rank 30 or lower players, the odds of the rank 30 or lower are almost nil
but I don’t play this game.
This is the only part that matters, and now it’s evident that why you have no clue. If you would have started with this, I wouldn’t have bothered reading anything else you wrote.
Thank you for giving us all an excuse to put you on ignore. Whew, for a second there I thought you had an educated opinion.
Anet already did better, it’s called GW1, but they decided to cater too much to PvE with this game and continue to push esports while leaving one of the worst pvp experiences in an mmo to date for causals.
Except GW1 was hated by a large majority of the pvp and mmorpg community as an overcomplicated mess of a game. I can point to a larger portion of people who genuinely though that GW1’s overpowered specs, hilarious monk builds, ridiculously complicated fighting style, and time consuming fights was a main reason for it’s inability to attract the casual fan.
The casual fan is a huge part of the gaming industry. If you can’t attract the casual fan, you will never be big enough to play it. The fact that there are a very very small amount of people who feel GW1 pvp was better than GW2 pvp is evidence that the game was never as great as you think it was.
GW2 pvp is a simpler system which in the end makes it a better system. The problem with GW2 PvP at the beginning is something that has been noted several times, and is not worth repeating. Your inability to see progress that has nothing to do with GW1 is unfortunately not something anyone can help you with, and you will forever be saddened. I played BC and Vanilla wow, and there are some days I think that it was the pinnacle of gaming in terms of pvp and pve, and then I watch an old video of the game or listen to some of the old podcasts, and I realize it’s just memories of the good times that make me assume that it was the best.
Unfortunately your perception is stuck on this perception that everyone agrees with you. Hopefully we can convince you shortly that you are misguided in your hatred.
Yes, because every person who agrees (aka the majority) with the posts of those “3 people” still posts on a game that they quit playing while ultimately being let down long ago. Instead of being bitter and upset that you represent the minority, how about accepting our input and moving on with your life? There are plenty of people who accept the fact that this game has miserably failed. There are few of us who visit this forum and post that side of the argument. Can you blame the others who don’t? Look at the result of it so far.
I realize I struck a nerve with you. I highly suggest you take time to branch out and do some research on opinions and general information on GW2. Sitting on GW2 and playing with the other 18 active players isn’t really helping you a whole lot in that regard. When you are done kicking and screaming, let me know, there are plenty of people who are familiar with good games who can help you out.
haha, I seriously love your self-inflated opinions haha. I know many of the gamers who quit for a variety of reasons, and I still keep in contact with many of them.
Why don’t you show us some of your epic background that makes you an expert on the subject of all things esports? In fact, I would love to see the level of gameplay that makes you the expert for the majority that thinks GW2 is such a failed product.
Everyone knows WoW’s pvp is brutal, and yet millions play the game, i would say they have not failed, and GW2 is infinitely better than that game. Your perspective on what is and isn’t exciting is based on your own misperception as to what is valid. Do you own a company that sponsor and promotes Esports and therefore makes your opinion something of an educated opinion? Or are you simply a self-inflated streamer who somehow think he knows everything about every game? Do you have a highly popular and educated show that people genuinely watch outside of GW2 that makes you an educated opinion?
Or are yousimply a failed bitter player who has no desire to let go of anything that he either wasn’t very good at (Most likely) or is upset that no one listened to what he feels would make this game better? I am sure that you believe you speak for the majority, and it maybe that currently Guild Wars 2 is not looked on favorably, but that doesn’t change what we are doing.
We are still a growing burgeoning community that has decided to take the slow measured approach. Not one person is saying this game right now is ready to be on lol, starcraft, or CoD level. We haven’t even said we are ready for wow levels. What we are saying is the game is better than you think, the players are better than you, and we are building a foundation so that sometime in the future we can make a step into the esports realm. Is there a future here? Yes, because if Dota can be successful, than any game can be successful.
Plus if people like you still come on and troll boards to get yourself heard than the game is doing something right.
No mesmers lower than rank 35 haha?
can i come on my alt?
If you play on the EU and rank is below 35 than yes :P
Always interesting. I am excited to see what the Necros can do, and will Ysiki and the team be there!
We are working on getting one of the top tournament thieves as a coach. Keep up the great work!
Don’t have an EU account, else I would coach again
I am going to put you down for the NA coach again which is happening at the end of the Month.
Great to see so many EU rangers!
Sorry for the delayed response hear. We are trying to setup the Podcast for this week but we are having some guest difficulties that has postponed this week’s episode.
I would really like to participate, but unfortunately there is a max rank.
Seems like I have to buy a second account for this
Empathic, while you may not be able to participate, we do need people to help us with coaching and setup on the EU side. I would love to get your help and ideas. I will send you a pm with my contact information
I want to apologize to the Engineer community. We had some technical difficulties which prevented us from having a Engineer podcast last week, but I have been assured that the team is ready to go this weekend.
Wow, the EU Engineer community is ready to go!
Great signups so far!

1. This game is boring with no depth.
2. There is no high level PvP in this game. Your notion of “high level” is relative. The PvP community is very small in GW2 – High level does not exist.
3. I’ve played at a higher level in PvP than you can fathom.
4. Seeing the small PvP community squirm when the majority opinion gets pointed out is a very entertaining thing to watch.
1. The major e-sports type games are ridiculously boring. COD- wander around and get one shot repeatedly even at the pro levels this happens. If you think MOBA’s are the height of excitement than you need to go outside and see what real sports are like. It’s all subjective to the person watching. What you may find boring is not what other people find boring. I think personal streaming by any player is mind numbingly boring regardless of the player or game. Tournaments, scrims, and shows I understand, but the rest is so boring it boggles the mind why people watch it.
2. This is correct, but that has more to do with the fact that the large majority of very competitive players left and are just now starting to filter back in. SOAC, ZZZ, and whatever Gibbly’s team’s name is probably 95 percent of the top talent in the game currently, but that will change. PZ is good if they ever have a consistent team that isn’t just a combination of players on other teams.
3. Comments like this remind me of high schoolers who claim to be involved or tested every woman on the market. Great players and guys with a wealth of high level pvp rarely come on the forums to complain at the level you do. Most are too busy doing things.
4. I am glad you represent the majority because it’s amazing the sheer volume of people who agree with you. Oh wait, it’s the 3 guys who continuously post because the game isn’t the way you like it. Look go back to whatever game you came from since you hate GW2 so much, and leave the game to those who do enjoy it.
Conquest is just as enjoyable to watch and is more related to MMO’s than the standard Moba format, and infinitely more enjoyable to watch than anything Halo or COD puts out.
Being the loudest guys who posts the most angry rants does not make you in the Majority. I would recommend branching your circle of majority to include people not in your guild or rolodex, of course than you might be wrong, and that might cause your whole world to come crashing down. It’s okay though when you recover from the shock we will be here to help you.
I had a great time, tnx guys
In this week’s exciting podcat, the But of Corpse team goes live in an effort to reach more of the community. We get to hear some amazing information from one of the top theorycrafters among tournament Necromancers. He also hammers home some of the key worries that Necromancers have about the current state of tournament play.
They also take the time to talk to some of the great Necro fans who showed up for the first live show.
Enjoy!

Working on getting the audio only onto the podcasts
sorry, there is no depth in this game. it’s capture points. there will be depth if GvG is implemented. Until then, no.
I guess that’s why you have been such a great shoutcaster, and are able to tell us all about the gameplay in five minutes. Your contributions to this game are noted. Thank you for contributing.
