So i downed teq around 7 times now and it felt good every time! but i have to say the best moment was when EVERYONE wiped. we were on the last battery phase before killing teq with 3mins give or take. there was 20 secs left for the battery phase so we told everyone to rush back to dps hard. our battery were pretty low but it seems like they were going to make it, 5 4 3 2, OH kitten EASTERN BATTERY IS GOING DOWN FASTTTTT! 1 .5 BOOM eastern battery goes down :| .5 secs and it dropped. w.e we got this np we dont need the 5% dmg from the laser. as everyone is standing there getting rdy to dps, teq comes in like A BOSS! and flapped his wings creating a massive wave which wiped out everyone! chat went crazy! ppl were raging but it was probably the best moment for me bc we were so close to downing him with so much time left but from one little mistake, .5 seconds worth, we failed and it felt pretty epic. great work with this fight Anet, now lets see some awesome machines like this in ur dungeons and or fractals

None, it should just have better scaling so a group for at least 40 can do it. If they were to make content like this instanced then it should be harder.
Sounds to me like you want it scaled down as it is in the open world. That would be easier.
The way scaling should work is it should be as hard for 40 ppl to do it as it would be for 140 ppl. the scaling system is pretty bad as is atm that is probably y Anet didnt make it doable by less then 80 ppl bc then it probably would have been easier like u said. the reason it should scale to much less then 80, is so lower pop servers and guilds can down him.
None, it should just have better scaling so a group for at least 40 can do it. If they were to make content like this instanced then it should be harder.

…. ppl r way to bad at this game. im in a t1 server and half the ppl cant even jump the waves, if we cant do it idk how lower tier servers r going to. fights like this should really be instanced. now that we know Anet is capable of making harder content for raid size groups and we know it can be really fun, without all these ppl who dont know how to dodge or jump, i think a lot of ppl would want to do this type of content. now dont get me wrong, im not asking Anet to change the game but it would be nice to have different types of content which attract all different type of gamers. we already have a lot of casual friendly content and i think its time to add more variety. content like this should be instance so ppl who like the challenge and actually want to complete it without ruining the game for other ppl (overflow in BG) can do so.

No overflow server will ever be able to do this. anet needs to address this problem bc its worse then waiting for a healer or tank which the game was trying to avoid so badly.
If the teq event fails he shouldnt leave, he should spawn 200 champ minions and take over the beach and push us all back and then he should start sending minions to take over Sparkfly Fen. the respawn timer shouldnt count if he wasnt killed we should have the option to try to push his forces back and if we do successfully we should be able to fight him again if not then Sparkfly Fen gets taken over and we cant fight Teq again until we take Sparkfly back.
i still havent died during the fights so maybe its just u :|

What makes you think it is the best thing? Hundreds of attempts across all servers and no server has been successful yet, does not make it good content, does it? Nobody should be able to do it “on first try”, but if nobody does it on the thousandth try, then something is wrong. A good decision to me would be to properly test new content with the correct amount of people under “live” conditions, i.e. test server conditions. Anet throwing content at the players with too high difficulty or obvious bugs is not my idea of good decision making. They should properly test all of it and if it doesn’t work, change it before release.
hundreds of attempts across all servers but how many times have they done each? around 5 times today. thats nothing. this content is 100% doable its not too hard its that ppl r still failing to jump over the waves and ppl r still failing to use the turrets properly and ppl r still failing to avoid the aoe circles that do so much dmg. we r still getting use to it since its the first difficult content which is meant for so many ppl. soon enough we will be getting it on the first attempt every time, even though i still hope there will be chances at failure if ppl start slacking off while playing.
I wonder why Anet did not re-evaluate the difficulty of this event, when they were unable to complete it in their video demonstration. Is the QA Manager/Lead Dev/Game Director at ArenaNet some sort of sadist, who likes seeing players suffer from over the top difficult content? First SAB difficulty, which results in it being nearly dead by now, now Tequatl whom no server has killed so far in hundreds of attempts… Something is going wrong at Anet, which results in bad decision making.
What is a good decision to u then? easy content which ppl can do their first try? bc imo this is the best thing added to the game yet.

Now that the jp is out of EBG it is kind of boring. i think the best thing that can be done with that area now is make it its now pvp area. it has the perfect map lay out and the content is basically all there. one thing that can be done with it is a capture the flag type of pvp match. the way i see it working is it will be a 20v20 match where there r 5 objectives where ur team has to place and hold ur flag in each objective as long as possible. there can be side quests where a group of 5 has to go and do a jp to get a buff from a certain spot or 2 groups of 5, one from each team, r randomly teleported to a area where they have to fight to the death and what ever team wins gets a buff or scores some points for their team. the map is huge so it can avoid promoting zerging and it also can have a lot dynamic things going on. this will add more variety to gw2 pvp and if implemented right can be a ton of fun. im not saying the way i said it is the right way but its the idea that counts
if u guys agree that something like this should be done to the old ebg jp then post and or suggest something anet can do to make it a more fun place to go.

Since you have posts going back 12 months, I’m going to assume you bought GW2 back then. Why — if you felt then as you feel now — buy a game that has advertised that the motivation to do content would be fun? Did you assume that even though this is an MMO, there would be no repetition — or did you not research?
When they announced that they we’re released a sequel to gw1, which was the game i was playing at the time, i was pretty excited seeing that gw1 was a awesome game. then i watched the Manifesto trailer!!! that is when i knew i was going to play gw2. lets start off with dynamic events. i thought i was going to do them not bc of rewards but bc they were suppose to be fun and exciting. u fail a event and the town gets taken over, then they mobs start expanding and taking more places if u wouldnt fight back. the shatterer was suppose to be a epic fight, they r changing the open world boss encounters now but who knows how they r going to turn out, not a spam 1 to win.
I sure as hell didnt expect the RNG the game has, i really thought that i was going to be rewarded for doing content not getting lucky with a precursor off a guard in WvW, which i never have! speaking about wvw. they r actually fixing it up now with the new 5 point capture thing but right now honestly it just a zerg fest and a half no skill required just follow ur commander.
Dungeon were suppose to be unbelievable hard! i’ve watched pax panel way before the game came out and i remember one of the dungeon designers saying how after completion of a exp dungeon, which were suppose to be sooooooo hard and required teamwork big time, u would get one token which would be traded in for a piece of exotic armour. the rewards were suppose to be much better bc they were meant to be difficult.
The open world was suppose to be much more living and dynamic then it is. a bunch of times ive tried to run around and do events but sometimes it takes me forever to find one in a random zone, which was completely empty so it should of been packed with events. the game just turned into grind for gold to get the latest skins. its not too late to fix up this mess, they have been making a bit of progress with the teq update and WvW update. the LS is just ap and gold farming, imo, thats probably the main reason ppl do them. there has been nice updates but its so little that their not worth mentioning.
I just know gw2 can be so much better, with the combat it has, the dynamic event system like they did with the invasions, the dragons, temples, pvp, Wvw, it can all be so kitten awesome if they just released the proper content and not more grind.

The other problem is that the content would be terrible and would let everyone who wants to afk watching HP bars and then healing or spamming buffs and going afk for “support” get what they wanted, a nice, original trinity MMO.
The way we have it right now, every single class is capable of offering DPS, control and support, and doing this lets parties clear content efficiently. Just because randoms on here say support isn’t needed doesn’t make it so, just watch any speed clear video and you’ll see the amount of support, control and co-ordination is involved.
The only problem is that most people can’t handle this so ANet will never make “elite” content with appropriate rewards because their main audience who wants to tank 50k 1-hit boss attacks would get angry.
No one is asking for the WoW trinity, gw2 has its own. support/control/dps. what happens when we need to use our support skills is harder content. if i have proc/regen/might/fury/stability/vigor/retal/aegis, all up it would allow me to take more dmg and do more dmg and it will also allow the boss encounter to be more difficult bc then the boss can constantly attack. its not just the boons that will keep ppl alive, its using the combo field. for example, im on my warrior, i see a ranger up a healing spring down so i pick up the banner i droped then go and use the 5 skill, which places it back on the ground, in the healing spring and aoe heal anyone with in a certain range from me. things like that will allow the game to have difficult, fun, etc content.
Just bc the majority of players dont like that content doesnt mean it shouldnt be added. no one is asking Anet to change the game all we want is hard content which rewards ups appropriately. they can add a challenging instance twice a year and keep their easy mode loving player base and gain more players who enjoy hard content.

All show that they are seeking ways to create counters that require skill from the players. Each has its own unique rewards for being able to do it – a mini, specific weapon skins, etc. They may not be what some people want as their rewards, but many were happy with them. For some, the content itself was enough. Just depends on the player. They won’t be able to make everyone happy though.
We’ve been told that we can look forward to more of these types of things, as they continue to revamp the world bosses and the dungeons. It’s not huge strides right now, but they are making the attempt, and things like this take time.
Everything u mention except teq is temp content so ppl dont really care if it doesnt reward appropriate rewards. we dont even know if teq is going to be difficult so we cant really comment on that yet. i really have to say this again? when someone is playing a MMO they expect to be rewarded bc its a huge part of the game. the harder the content the better the rewards (should be). if i was playing super mario i would expect to be rewarded with gold or items for completing difficult content, bc its not part of the game. if i were to play super mario and completed a really hard part. would i not get ranked up or move on to the next lvl? of course i would be thats how the game rewards its players. in a MMO on the other hand, the players r rewarded with gold and items for doing certain content, the harder the content is the better the rewards should be, not worse.
I am a bit impatient at this time of night so i have only read the OP and the answer that followed it so forgive if what i will say has been said before.
I would love to have some content that will require great team coordination, it will be a new goal for me to accomplish so i agree with what you want 100%.
There is something that bothered me about your suggestions in what requirements must be filled to make it a very skilled encounter. Needing a tank/healer/dps in the groups may be impossible. It is doable because there are classes that seemed to be geared for a tank or healer role, but it really isn’t maximized. There are not abilities that can help the tank control the agro or immense healing abilities that the designated healer can rely on.
These are the only problems i see if such content where to be released for guild wars 2
The reason i suggested a support/tank/dps was not bc that makes a group more skilled but it allows the boss encounters to be much more exciting and difficult. if they were to have content where, for example, u need some sort of heal going on such as a rangers spring but thats not all that is needed, u would also need to use that spring for blast finishers to aoe heal ur group or to use a blast finisher in the eles lava to give might to urself. things like that would make the encounters more skill based bc u would need to work together and time/save certain skills. the support boons used in speed clears r usually might and fury for the dmg. it all comes back down to dpsing the boss/mobs down. with the content that im looks for, the boss wouldnt have 100k hp so its not like u need a dps group to clear it quick but he does constant dmg, not one shot skills but constant burns attacks coming ur way, so a full dps group wont be able to kill it quick enough before they get wiped out.
Is there challenging content in the game? Yes, in a way there is. SAB TM, Mad King’s Clocktower, Liadri were challenging enough. However you can “challenge” yourself in many more ways: do a solo AC run at level 35, solo Lupicus in Arah, do a naked TA run etc What do all these “challenging” feats lack? Appropriate rewards of course.
The “Gambits” system from the Gauntlet was an excellent idea, if only they applied it to the rest of the game, so when you “artificially” increase the difficulty of content (soloing a dungeon for example) you would get far superior rewards. That way challenging content becomes rewarding and it’s funny because it doesn’t require making new content…
I like that suggestion. i would try to solo a dungeon if it rewarded u like u mentioned. it would probably be fun and worth the time. a big part of enjoying part of a game which is a MMO is knowing that after completing the difficult content ur doing u get rewarded appropriately.
My answer to the question is that after a year you feel that nothing either requires skill or if it does require small limited skill it is not giving ‘good’ enough rewards the chances are next to zero that they will add it to your specifications.
After a year? a year is nothing the game still has so much time to grow. its not my “specifications” its what game should be, not a endless grind for items. sure have content that ppl can grind out if they dont want or cant do the challenging stuff but there should still be difficult content which r rewarding.

If i didnt have one y would i ask for difficult content?! i re traited and just put my traits in anything and still beat her. she was tough, dont get me wrong but once u learn the fight its just dps from there
Skill involves and requires a number of the following:
- Tactics;
- Muscle-memory;
- Quick-thinking and reflexes;
- Split-second situational awareness and observation;
- Clear thinking/Clarify of purpose;
- And/Or good leadership.
Guild Wars 2 requires passive situational awareness that a tranquilised, soporific tortoise could multitask through, and that’s it. Considering the content has been a continual case of copy & paste, I can’t see this game ever requiring skill, no.
Perhaps the upcoming Everquest Next will fare better. We can hope, I suppose. We can hope. I’m tired of time being a replacement for skill in MMOs.
Gw2 is still a new game it can change a lot for good or bad. i can see Anet adding difficult content ( with rewards worth the effort), if ppl show they want it.

I would disagree, I think the idea behind GW2’s trinity was that there would be roles which could be used but wouldn’t necessarily be required. I can play a controller, or a tank, or even a healer and contribute to my group. Unfortunately the way it turned out is more like they will never be wanted because there is nothing they can do to help that more DPS won’t solve better. You don’t need to heal, control, or tank a dead enemy.
The thing alot of ppl dont know if that Anet made their exp dungeons “hard” they werent suppose to be so easy. with that said, they didnt know that dps was going to control the game in terms of dungeons and pve in general. the game was meant so u would need a support in a party but its not like they r just there to spam support skills, they can also contribute with dmg and agro. same with all other types of roles.
Well, they’re are still coming out with the SAB levels that will award red and purple skins a some point, maybe that will be challenging enough?

If only it worked that way. How ever the people who like easy content feel they are entitled to complete all content. They don’t want to hear content isn’t made for them. That is ‘elitist’.
The sad thing is it seems Anet agrees with them so far. life isnt fair so y should the game be? if ur not good at something u cant do it simple and easy. the way the game is right now is just grind for the nicest skins not do something challenging for them. that is not playing a game, its working in a game.
I’d like to see some more difficult content in the game, but I’d have to say, “no.” If you take a quick peek at the Super Adventure Box sub-forum right now you’ll see why. Before you go in there though role up your pant legs so they don’t get tear stained.
The Devs seem to weigh heavily on forum opinion. Even though Josh he has been around long enough to know that a general opinion of the game should not be derrived from the forum, in the same thread he as much as says the a single thread confirm for him that the content was too difficult.
The average gamer today plays video games with the same attitude they would watch a movie. Passively. It is limited control over a playable movie more or less for them. They want entertainment, but entertainment for them should not include any sort of frustration or negative feeling.
The ‘Everyone is a winner.’ view and those who think otherwise are elistest has crept into the video game genre as it went mainstream.
It is not secret that some people are better playing and winning at games then others. There are also those who like challenge and those who don’t. One of the great things about an MMO is that they can have such a large variety of content that they can cater to both kinds of players.
For some reason however it is frowned upon to ask for content that others may not be able to complete, and heaven forbid you ask for rewards for completing said content that others may not be able to obtain.
I want content that has a chance to beat me. I’d like to be able to lose for once. Going into a dungeon I’d like to be unsure as to my success or fail. Too many people are to afraid to lose these days.

So no. Difficult gaming content is a dying breed. And because it doesn’t please most people that means it isn’t profitable. Which is the other side to the coin.
What im asking here is for Anet to add content that rewards skill not time spent. i dont want them to start changing the whole game bc of this. there r still a bunch of ppl who enjoy the challenge of a hard instance and like u said gw2 being a MMO can have a huge variety of content so adding hard content once every few months wont make the easy mode lovers leave the game and this will also attract those ppl who enjoy hard core content and help the game grow even more. the asian release is soon also and alot of asian players like difficult skill based content.

Op does not really wants self challenge.. he wants his rewards. his trophy. his titles. his materialistic items that he can show off to everyone else, that he can gain advantage off.. for completing content that is made challenging.. in other words,. prestige of the elite!!,.. for others to drools upon..
Those r all nice to have except the gain advantage off items part. but i really enjoy difficult content, its fun exciting and feels good when u complete it. unless it took hours! is it wrong to want a game to be challenging? clearly u just want too play a easy mode game and not have to work hard for anything, unless sitting there for 7 hours straight spamming one zerging around the map is challenging too u.
SAB: Trib Mode? The Gauntlet? The Mad King’s Clocktower? A level 30 Fractal? TA Forward/Up? The Norn in Belcher’s Bluff? WvW? sPvP Team Play? Want me to go on?
They are totally starting to make more content for players that want harder skill based content. Back to back months have seen additions in this way.
No game company has ever released content in this fashion before. They need to learn how to do it as they go. I don’t think a lot of people appreciate how hard it is to release something that is playable and at the same time they are still learning from it. Give it time. If you feel it’s not for you, come back in 3-6 months as they get better at it and they will.

SAB is garbage hard content or not, the only hard part of the gauntlet was the last boss, clock tower i finished in 5 tries, fractals 30+ still easy mode if u have a good amount of AR, TA= easy mode, WvW is difficult:S since when?! the norn in the belcher’s bluff was hard ill give u that one took me about a hour, tpvp is skilled based so ill give u that one too. that is 0.5% of the gw2 content.
Dont get me wrong i know gw2 is still growing, but most of those things u mentioned arent close to what difficulty lvl im talking about. i’m talking about content where u have to save certain skills for certain attacks and have to keep the boons up, theres alot more thing which can make the game much more difficult but at the same time alot more funnnn!
I was hoping we can get a answer here from Anet. i was wondering if we will ever get content which is really difficult ( need regen/protection etc, up 75% of the time, need support/tank/dps,
I don’t understand how spamming regen/protection makes a piece of content require skill.
I also don’t understand how a trinity does either.
The way we have now with pre-fight might and fury stacking, CC’ing mobs together, chaining blinds to stop mob attacks from dealing damage, putting up reflects to enable the party to burst down mobs using lethal projectiles and putting up blocks just in case a team mate slips up, in addition to dodging when none of this available I think is plenty skill intensive, and most players in this game can’t even do that.
All challenging content will do in this game is cause hordes and hordes of people to complain and for the challenge to be nerfed so that you can just autoattack with a staff-camping cleric guardian for the win.
I hate when ppl take one quote and judges the whole post on it. gw2 has its own trinity which no one uses which is support/dps/control or tank, w.e u want to call it. control isnt really good in boss fights unless the team organizes for it. having protection regen and all other boons up will allow harder and more fun boss encounters. what u said is also a big part have being skilled, imo. the reason ppl wont be able to do that content if it is ever released is bc we never really had anything to make us work in gw2 its all easy mode stuff so everyone is use to playing relaxed.
No one is asking Anet to change the whole game, all we want is challenging content which is also rewarding since at the end of the day it is a MMO and rewards r a huge part. we should also be rewarded more for effort put into something not time so hard content should be no different. ppl r going to complain no matter what is released in the game but its not like Anet is going to cater to hard core players just by adding a bit of hard content here and there.
