Why can't I salvage Order armor?

I wish we could salvage this kind of armor for the sigils/runes, no need of materials.

Which is exactly why they are unsalvageable. They didn’t want those types of armor being used as sources of upgrades that could be sold (or simply used on other pieces). Why do you think that ability is now gone with the wardrobe being purely skins now? Why do you think there’s an upgrade extractor in the store?

Kill X quests weren’t really a problem. Plenty of X to go around.

Gather X quests are a pain because other players poach your item because you are dispatching the mob next to it so you have to wait for the item (or boss) to respawn.

The i7-3770 isn’t going to help all that much. Are you currently maxing out your GPU? GPU-Z or similar utility could tell you how often the GPU is at 100%. If it’s not, a faster GPU isn’t going to help much either.

Why do I still only get 30fps in some areas with my setup at max settings? Shouldn’t my Intel I7-3820 at 4.3ghz with 16 gigs of 2133 ram and AMD R9 290 tear through the game no problem? If it needs more CPU power then why doesn’t it use more than 30% of any of my cores? Is there any way to force this to use more? Is it poorly optimized for CPUs as well as GPUs?

With your setup, and I’m assuming with settings on high or ultra, you are getting as good as you can get. Just remember, most players have much worse rigs with much lower frame rates where you are getting a measly 30fps.

The game isn’t one that gets GPU bound unless you have a really low end GPU.

The game is CPU bound. It uses around 3 cores worth of performance regardless how many cores you have. The GTX 760 is well beyond what you need unless you are trying to drive a multi HDTV res or 4K setup and even then it’s probably good enough.

This means performance per core matters more than performance rating of the whole CPU. AMD FX CPUs have roughly 1/2 the performance of Intel CPUs on a true core per core basis.

The game’s performance falls off rapidly the more players there are around you. With megaserver tech there’s always a crowd now.

@Avelos

But HT simply lets the cores run more efficiently by presenting the instruction scheduler with a second set of code that doesn’t interact with the first, allowing a higher IPC.

And since the ARM cores in the 360 and the x86 cores in the XBone are single thread, thought to use the i5 in comparison so HT doesn’t get in the way.

@Tink
GW2 isn’t GPU bound, but CPU bound. It doesn’t matter if the consoles were running 1280×720 or not. Either of us can run the game at that resolution and boss events and zergs will still drive the frame rate to it’s knees.

If a modern let older CPU like an i5-2600 has problems, what would it be like on something with considerably less performance? Conversely if they had gotten a design to run well on such a slow (to today standards) set up, we wouldn’t be having all these threads about frame rate issues.

If we were talking about another PC CPU vs another, like talking about AMD vs Intel builds in a generalized manner, I would agree. But we are not, setting up for a system like in a closed ecosystem such as an xbox/PS you can get FAR more out of the HW because you know exactly what you are working with in every case and are not dealing with mangled 3rd party HW and drivers etc etc.

As a PC gamer I am sure you have played many bad ports, that from a HW stand point should run amazing on PC, but doesn’t, yet still plays just fine on a wholly underpowered console, this, in a nutshell, is the problem I am speaking of.

No we are not. The XBox 360 architecture isn’t x86. Not the same instructions at all. They aren’t even the same endian.

You were the one who suggested that maybe the 3 core-ish cap in performance was related to the XBox 360 and that maybe ArenaNet was considering a version on that platform as well. You can’t be saying they were targeting the XBone because the game was in development from 2007-12.

Started that beta today. I’m finding it, after nearly 1 1/2 in GW2, overly complex. I’m getting lost to easily in the Tutorial and why do I first have to enter the game before I customize the keyboard. And I haven’t found mouse sensitivity anywhere. Trying to mouse look causes me to spin the camera around 5 times, which helps getting me lost.

Maybe it’ll be better once I’m on the planet.

But GW2 was incredibly easy to learn the controls And the simplified interface is a blessing.

The issue is we’ve had nothing but stone cold silence since Scarlet died. They seemingly refuse to communicate with us, but don’t worry, there is always time to add more junk fluff to the gem store and leave us players in the dark.

WildStar at the end of the month, cannot wait, I’m not being a “second class citizen” to China just because I’ve already purchased my game any longer than that.

So, they told us the plans before that. That there will be a long gap between LS and during that time we will get a feature update. They need time to examine the impact of the feature update and perhaps fine tune it a bit. They have China going live shortly. They plan to sync the LS releases between the NA/EU and China.

This lull at least gives me time to go exploring.

Yes it’s a two year old game with the renderer written 5 years ago for XP and dual or quad core CPUs. It doesn’t take advantage of all the cores in a system, using only around 2 to 3 cores of processing power and supports Dx9 only.

The game’s engine sputters as the number of players around you increases. The engine becomes CPU bound in the worse way and quickly.

And you got a very good CPU with a lot of performance per core.

Edit: There’s a lot of scuttlebutt going around about the miracle of unparking your cores. Google for a guide to see if that helps.

The 360 was a triple core, which would have been the target if the game ever had consoles in mind, as well as the API choice. Consoles have always and will always be behind PC, more so now that they have taken on more PC like builds, they will always be cheaper PC’s. The only reason they play the games as well as they do is because of no HW variation and as such much higher optimization than ports to PC have.

You don’t get what I’m saying. Each of the 3 cores in the XBox 360 is less powerful than each of the cores in the XBone which each are less than half as powerful as a core in an i5-2600. If the game was written at one time to try to run on an XBox 360 it would run fantastic on a PC because of all of the additional performance, 3 to 4 times per core at least.

Yes consoles do have an advantage when talking to it’s peripherals (this includes the GPU) because there is no variation so there’s no need for any abstraction and overhead of API to driver to hardware. But what is the underlying limitation we are seeing, CPU or GPU?

Don’t mistake number of cores with performance per core. The current XBone with it’s 8 cores still has less performance than the four cores in an i5-2600. And each core in the XBone is less powerful than each core in the XBox 360. There are cell phone processors that test faster than the CPU and GPU from an XBox 360.

Believe me, nobody was targeting the current or previous gen consoles. If they had we would be getting great performance on the PC.

if it takes subscription

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Behellagh.1468

One of the main reasons that I bought Guild Wars 2 in the first place was that it has no subscription fee. Trust me, if WoW was subscription-free, I would be there right now and not playing GW2. Sure, maybe I’m cheap, but consider: how many people are like me, unable to afford a $15 monthly subscription fee? All of these people saw “Pay once, play forever!” and went, “Ooh!”. I, for one, would not be able to continue to play if a subscription fee was added, and I’m 100% sure that there would be a massive decrease in the GW2 playerbase as well. ArenaNet probably makes more right now from Gem store purchases than it would if it lost 50% of players and added a sub fee.

$15 is trivial. I pay more for my internet, cable, and cell phone subscriptions and yet, I don’t feel like I’m “missing out” if I don’t use them constantly. I have no problem paying for services that I value, and WoW is one of those services which have given me YEARS of entertainment and memories. Worth every penny.

And that works for you. I have a friend in a 6 figure job and since his free time is limited simply won’t play a subscription MMO. But he did buy GW2 when it came out. Not sure if he’s found the time to play it yet …

The “gem barrier” gets more expensive as long as more people convert gold to gems than the other way around. The fact that it is getting more expensive means that players continue to see converting gold to gems as a good choice. If the price of gems goes down it means less people are converting gold to gems than are converting gems to gold.

Same problem as Dx11, ANet would need to redesign the renderer to be a proper, scaling, multithreaded render pipeline.

If it will make money, no matter how ridiculous it seems, ANet has reason to put it in the game at some point. And the idea on how to make money using it was pitched in a few post a few pages back.

Also, with your examples, keep in mind we’re talking about ANet here, and even bigger than ANet, NCSoft.

But again, opinions. And all that.

Yes, NCSoft is the parent Company, this is where experience with Anet going back to gw1 release comes in. NCSoft unless it has changed In the past few years, knows that it makes money from Anet best by leaving Anet alone.

Anet is NCSoft’s Golden Goose, you don’t cut it open to get the eggs out. You let it lay eggs.

Also, NCSoft major covers mostly Asia and not the US. Many of their games were released here, did not fare well. I think, NCSoft realized this and bought a developer who would understand the NA/SA/EU/AF markets and develop games for them. Hence NCSoft bought A.Net but is treating A.Net like a wholly-owned subsidiary not another branch of the same company.

It was more simultaneous. In 2001 they founded NC Interactive when they bought Destination Games, Richard Garriott’s company that eventually developed Tabula Rasa.

In 2002 they signed a publishing deal with Cryptic for City of Heroes.

In last 2002, early 2003 (found two different dates) they bought ArenaNet.

While Lineage came out everywhere in 1998, Lineage II didn’t come out until 2004, the same day as City of Heroes in NA. Aion didn’t come out in NA until 2009. Lineage’s NA servers shut down in 2011.

Here’s a problem with subscriptions. Once the new content is no longer shinny, players quit until the next expansion. For the company that means income drops while development costs balloon trying to get the expansion out the door.

Then you have people who look at their monthly expenses and decide that life is getting in the way of gaming and choose to cancel, for now. The $15 a month isn’t worth the less than 10 hours a month they can play.

That leaves gamers who don’t care about waiting for new content for 12-18 months but can rationalize the expense. That’s becoming a smaller and smaller group. WoW’s off by another 200K this last quarter.

Extreme Precursor Inflation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Prices rapidly rising after a major paradigm shift isn’t inflation. Neither is when an item written off as junk (silk scrap) suddenly acquires a purpose. That’s a spike. Measuring in any term shorter than a year isn’t a fair way to measure inflation.

Apr 15th 2013 to Apr 15th 2014, Dawn went from 568g to 758g or 33% I’m okay with calling that inflation. Calling the change in price from May 3rd to May 5th, from 781g to 1050g, inflation I’m not okay with. That’s a spike, plain and simple.

spike implies its going to go down. Officially inflation doesnt really care what the cause is, whether its an increase in demand, or lowering of the supply. The key here is whether its sustained.
If it maintains this price or grows, that not really a spike, if it falls just as quickly its a spike.

By how the market is setup along with human nature it will not fall off quickly. Spike is probably the wrong term, maybe bubble is more appropriate here.

New supply isn’t going to be priced back down to original levels, owners will simply undercut the existing high. So it will take time. More likely that the 33% annual inflation rate will simply catch up to it’s slowly decaying price.

Because of the scarcity, bids are rising in hopes of being attractive enough to draw a seller. The new high bids will limit how low the price will drop. Yes, the ultra rich who are selling Dawns can manipulate this number and to keep the sell price elevated.

The “got to act now before it goes up even more” will drive some players to gather enough gold to buy one now.

One dawn looks to have sold for 900g a few hours ago. Current low sale price is 950g.
