If the trading range is fairly stable it should be trivial to set a price, even one higher than the current lowest sale, and have it bought within a week if not a day.
I was making roughly 85g a month before the patch and 150g a month now. That’s 800g or so since the start of the Jubilee. Now I’ve been playing twice as long as that but I was more interested in map completion with my first character than income generation so I wasn’t doing boss events so my earning were rather low.
The surge in precursor prices it solely due to the reduction of supply on the TP. 6 weeks ago for instance there were 25 Sparks for around 650g. Now there are 6 at 1200g with prices rising and supplies dropping on just about all precursor and legendary weapons since the official news on how the new skinning system. This surge is temporary and I’m quite patient.
Also of the 17 non-aquatic precursors, only six have a “buy now” price of over 800g, Dusk, Dawn, Zap, Spark, The Legend, and The Colossus. So if I was crafting anything other than a greatsword, sword, dagger, staff or hammer I could have bought one already, if I hadn’t spent the 800g on gems.
Unless they add little arrows showing which players have more points than say the week before, there is no way to tell how many players are active. I’ve been playing since Dec 2012, I have 6600+ APs. Most are from minimal number of daily and monthly achievements.
But remember ANet wants players to spend real money on gems. They can’t give too many of them away without cutting into their sales.
Making gems available only by doing in-game activities and without any gem-gold conversion would mean Anet had more income than they have now. Also, gem income would be better managed (and tweaked on the fly) by Anet instead of the mess it is now, because of the varied ways of earning gold.
Sadly they can’t change the system now (obviously) but they can make some tweaks here and there so earning gems in-game is not something for the TP players only (and the lucky ones)
How would giving away gems in game based on activities be “better” for ANet’s income stream?
You do the route I took which is a Z87 motherboard and an i5-4570K so it’s overclockable. And overclocking an Ivy Bridge or Haswell processor you will need a 3rd party cooler, the thermal load shoots up awfully fast once you start overclocking.
I’ve spent around 800g on gems since the Queen’s Jubilee. I don’t flip. Most of that is from selling ectos and T6 mats I get from Laurels.
Since the feature patch, with the bosses on a time table and the megaserver making sure there’s always players on a map, I’m seeing a doubling of my income. Since the patch dropped I’ve gotten 5 exotic weapons dropped on me in 30ish boss events (no precursors). I think I had 2 exotics drop in the previous 16 months of play. I use to get 2-3 rares a night to salvage, tonight I had 8. I say I conservatively made 70g in the last 2 1/2 weeks.
The point being if I hadn’t been buying gems I would easily have enough for the precursor I need for my legendary I’m making. No “TP Games”. No speed running dungeons. No champ or boss trains. Just two boss events a night and a handful of champs spawning outside of those events. And lots of events. That’s roughly 2 hours a night.
Load times are heavily affect by hard drive performance. Only having a dual core CPU doesn’t help either. Graphics card, ram and OS is fine.
If you are keeping the case, power supply, video card, ram (assuming DDR3) and OS then you only need to upgrade the motherboard and CPU to an Intel i5-4xxx series CPU and a Z87 (name of the chipset) motherboard. Tossing in a 3rd part cooler like the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo. To improve load times you could add in an SSD like the 250GB Samsung 840 EVO.
I will assume others will be by with PCPartPicker lists. An important question is will your case take full size ATX motherboards or just mATX (microATX)?
Here’s what I outlined above. I chose a mATX motherboard just to be on the safe side.
First, megahertz, now gigahertz myth. Two different CPU architectures do not have the same performance at the same speed. An FX series CPU needs roughly 1/3rd more clock speed for the same performance over a Phenom II. Conversely an Intel Haswell core only needs 1/2 the clock speed of a Phenom II to do the same amount of work.
Second, GW2 while multithreaded (split into over 40 threads) and can use all 8 cores in the FX-8350, the bulk of the work is done by only 3 threads for roughly 2 cores worth of work. The remaining threads together can occupy fully one additional core and change. That’s why performance gain drops off past 3 cores.
If you thought more cores would help, in GW2’s case it doesn’t. If you thought 4.1GHz Vs 3.3GHz meant better performance, no it doesn’t, FX is less efficient per clock than a Phenom II.
But how long, elapse time, does it take to fill the 5000 iron ore order and then sell all of them? Other buys and sellers can overcut the buys and undercut the sells. It could take hours or days for those orders to fill and then sold. If that time is included in your calculations then it’s quite possible that the silver farmer is making more gold per hour than your iron flipper.
The exchange actually doesn’t deduct more than the minimum it needs to purchase the amount of gems shown. (or if you like, it instantly refunds the difference).
So you can search for the lowest amount if you’re curious. but you’re protected if you’re just in a hurry to get close enough.

If 2g = 21 gems
and 2g 10s = 22 gems..
if you put in 2g 9s the exchange will only take 2g to get you the 21 gems and ‘refund’ the 9s back to you.
Looks as if one of the “rocks” didn’t get loaded. I would suggest running a repair on the game files. I believe the instructions are in the knowledge base.
That’s correct. You have to wait out the current match and then the next one before you can play after transfer during this season’s tournament.
As a part of these changes, we will also implement new restrictions to WvW access after transferring worlds. These restrictions will go into effect on March 28. After that date, anyone who transfers worlds will be able to play only in the Edge of the Mists WvW map for the duration of their current and subsequent matchup. If you transfer worlds on a Tuesday, you won’t be able to enter the Borderlands or Eternal Battleground maps until the Friday of the following week. You will still be able to play in Edge of the Mists and progress the tournament meta achievement, but you will not be able to contribute to the score of your WvW matchup. These changes are meant to encourage everyone to choose a home world and play on that world for the duration of the tournament.
ANet decided that the world of Tyria is dynamic. Stuff happens and then it’s over. There may be stuff left over but the events that led to the creation of that stuff is now in the past. I just don’t understand why players can’t grasp that and accept it’s gone.
It’s like your first kiss or holding your first born for the very first time. The event is ephemeral, you can never every relive it.
8GB might help a bit but the game’s frame rate drops the more players you have around you. Fine with party sizes but major zergs or anyplace where a player crowd forms. Other players seems to tax the CPU to it’s limits, well the major game threads. If the CPU can’t feed the video card due to all the player tracking, frame rate drops. Sharply once the the crowd in view gets above a dozen.
you can never be quick enough. I’ve had this happen before:
2g -> 21 gems
2g1s -> 21 gems
2g2s -> 22 gems
2g3s -> 21 gems
someone, somewhere in the world, at any time, will be converting gems to gold or visa versa which messes with the price.
to answer OP’s question, I’ve always observed that it takes the amount of gold you enter and not the exact price of those gems. because of this, I usually will get as specific as the silver. so 2g9s -> 22 gems. I just keep increasing silver by 1 until the gem amount goes up.

I disagree, I do this daily. I quickly narrow it down to silver and then binary search copper until I find the value that yields 1 gem more. It’s really not that hard to find the minimum amount for X gems.
I’ve never ever had a problem finding 10 NPCs to rez in short order. Even now with crowded zones and events like the Fire Elemental (reactor is always full of downed NPCs).
I for one I’ve never used transmutation to “salvage” an upgrade from an unsalvageable item or use it to move just the upgrade. Therefore I’m unaffected by this change. It’s possible that Aidan Savage didn’t as well and therefore there are two groups of players, those affected (aka “you people”) by this loss of functionality and those who are not.
If it was baseless then why did they remove an obvious feature of the old system? Couldn’t be an oversight. The extractor went into the Gem Shop the same patch they ripped out all the town clothes. They’ve been prepping us for 4 months.
Whose fault is it that they didn’t watch the interviews and get some information on upcoming changes?
In my opinion arenanet should not constantly release information that affects the economy before the patches hit, it will be implemented anyway so why the hell telling people what will change beforehand, it accomplishes nothing as most of the player base doesnt watch livestreams and they dont read forums and fansites they just play the game as it is…but some few % of the playerbase still profit of that information
And there’s been posts asking for such information ahead of time so everyone can rush the market instead of waiting for the patch notes.
Honestly people, it’s like buying concert tickets. After the first minute it’s not worth trying to get them anymore. So it doesn’t mater when the news hits, those in a position to trade on that news immediately, assuming they didn’t guess ahead of time, will profit while everyone else will try to ride that train and fail.
Remember when dyes shot up in price when they told us about the dye changes? Guess when the smart players, the ones who made a lot of profit sold? Within a day, selling to players who thought the prices would only go up once the patch dropped.
I am assuming the reason for that is since now we have account wide dyes so dye demand will be seriously reduced, the majority of dye “faucets” needed to be removed or reduced to a small drip, at least until the dye market recovers.
We went from 28K on the TP before the patch to 90K now and I suspect there are still tens of thousands of unidentified dyes being horded by players waiting for the day when prices double from current levels and scarcity hits the dye market in general.

Edit: This is an older post from him with only one possible solution but it does work for many. Just make sure all copies of the game are exited. May require you to check your Task Manager to kill crashed copies.
So they now have a bundle deal for the 5 animals that were available a year ago for 20% off.
So is the problem the discount or the fact you will end up with duplicates that are still account bound so you can’t sell the spares? Pretty sure they are still forge fodder.
If you are quick enough you can zero in on a minimal amount to get that number of gems.
As for your suggestion, I agree an interface that allows us to enter the amount of gems desired and provide us the minimal cost would be great. I’m sure selling gems the exchange provides the minimal amount of gold those gems represent.

If you want to keep true inflation under control then your two choices is limit new coin entering the game or take more coin out through one of the sinks. In this case they balanced both sides of the equation by removing the repair cost sink while reducing the champ coin reward.
The Devs can control what a event rewards. They can’t control players who are willing to “pay” another (by accepting less) to sell the rewards they received for more coin.

First, what was disproved? That devs can’t control players to prevent them from giving potential earnings away to another? That the reduction of champ coin rewards didn’t come at the same time as the removal of the armor repair costs? Or that the two are balanced? Or is it that the devs can only control new coin being introduced into the game world?
I understand you object to the fact that a few can take earn significantly more money simply benefiting off of the majority’s poor TP habits. You believe that the majority is being swindled by this minority. That this minority, through the wealth they accumulated is ratcheting up the cost of popular items to earn even more wealth. Except only by using a tool that everyone has equal access too and just using it smarter than most. And that’s somehow unfair.
