Behellagh.1468

Prices rapidly rising after a major paradigm shift isn’t inflation. Neither is when an item written off as junk (silk scrap) suddenly acquires a purpose. That’s a spike. Measuring in any term shorter than a year isn’t a fair way to measure inflation.

Apr 15th 2013 to Apr 15th 2014, Dawn went from 568g to 758g or 33% I’m okay with calling that inflation. Calling the change in price from May 3rd to May 5th, from 781g to 1050g, inflation I’m not okay with. That’s a spike, plain and simple.

It’s not basic functionality if the game was designed never to have it (button to issue challenge another player and duel in PvE zone). And if such functionality was so important to you then why play a game that doesn’t have it?

It’s like complaining the game doesn’t have the traditional MMO trinity.

TP is a separate data base. Gem Store and Exchange isn’t on it.

Shows where they allocate resources eh?

No, just that they put three different systems onto the same overall front end interface. Would it be any better if the Gem Shop and exchange had their own interface triggered by their own icon and/or key?

The bottom four tabs relate to the TP with it’s servers and it’s own database. Nothing to do with allocated resources. There been times in the past where the Gem Store went down while the TP remained up.

I don’t ever want to be pestered about dueling. Ever.

Why would anyone pester you about dueling? If someone really wanted to pester you about dueling they would do it currently anyways since the closest thing to dueling would be to join an empty PvP arena. This whole “I don’t want to be pestered” thing is a horrible excuse people against dueling keep spouting.

Those of us who like to improve our skills in the game would love to duel our friends using our PvE/WvW builds (PvP amulet builds are boring).

I had a two week thing with WoW years ago. I was challenged on an hourly basis when ever I ran into another low level player. No I wasn’t on a PvP server for that reason and no it wasn’t due to KSing or anything else. I was standing in an inn. That put me off of allowing dueling in PvE forever.

Which iMac is enough?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

iMac is not a gaming rig. Any NVIDIA card with an M on the end is not a gaming card. You will have to impose limitations even on older gen games and hope that future ones will at least run at all on it.

I have long learned that a custom game rig and a separate comp for work is the optimal solution. And Mac is just a cool thing to have for status purposes and interior decoration.

The iMac uses laptop/low power components (usually) in an all in one desktop unit. That’s why there’s an M at the end of the GPU name. So an iMac is just a laptop that sits on a desk with an insanely large display at an absurd resolution. Once you wrap your brain around that description it’s no difference than someone asking about which laptop is better.

The GTX 775M falls between the desktop GTX 570 and 580 in relative GPU performance.

The answer here as others have said is the 2nd choice is a faster system but likely not fast enough for your stated requirement of “in high to maximum resolution”.

True it’s not absolute profit. You could be a flipper or salvager so profit has other costs associated with it. But it does report the right value you will find in your pick up tab when a single item is sold (multiple of the same item is handled differently depending how many players are buying how much, hence “Projected” and not exact).

Why did it break? How long ago? Is it a piece of equipment? Which piece of equipment? Or is it a software problem? Which piece of software? Did rebooting/cycling power “fix it”? Is it a DDOS attack? Is the problem with their ISP? Is it a regional problem?

They likely have a documented procedure to work though which could fix the problem along the way if that doesn’t pan out then it’s gumshoeing it figure out what it is.

You were earn XP relative to your actual level everywhere, even in areas that are much lower level than you are.

In actuality I can’t imagine a path that you could that which would keep you in zones of an appropriate level, leveling is just too easy in this game. You will likely be level 80 well before you enter an area where 80 is the map level cap.

Edit: Only path I can see looking at the world map, that doesn’t take you though another race’s city (Lion’s Arch doesn’t count) or lower/higher level zone is for Humans.

Queensdale 1-15
Kessex Hills 15-25
Gendarran Fields 25-35
Harathi Hinderlands 35-45

though Lion’s Arch to

Bloodtide Coast kitten
Sparkfly Fen 55-65
Mount Maelstrom 60-70
Straits of Devistation 70-75
Malcore’s Leap 75-80
Cursed Shore 80

Edit 2:
Well that’s not true. You could go Norn and do Wayfarer Foothills (1-15) to Snowden Drifts (15-25) and then go to Gendarran Fields and from there follow the rest outlined above.

Transmutating components without salvaging?

in Players Helping Players

Behellagh.1468

I just don’t understand why now looks can be transmutable only and stats no more.

Before you had to have two complete items to transfer skins and the side effect meant you had to choose which of the two items stats and upgrades you wanted to keep. This also meant you could “salvage” upgrades off of unsalvageable items. I’m going to assume that this was unintended and a fix would either be too time consuming to do or since they knew they were revamping the whole skinning system, a waste of manpower.

I’m going to also assume that this “loss” is entirely intentional. They always wanted a pure skinning system. That the preservation of upgrades was just something that happened by accident or that they soon realized was a mistake and needed it to be fixed. So instead of removing it immediately, they waited until there was a change in the skinning system to remove it.

Low fps (mostly in the big cities)

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

Three things.

First, layer cake effect of some cities. There are regions below or above what you are seeing plus a general uptick in polygons so there’s more work for the renderer simply to exclude stuff the GPU doesn’t need to know about.

Second, the game’s rendering engine’s performance degrades quickly the more players that are around. Cities tend to have a lot of players and even though they aren’t shooting things you will experience a sharp drop in performance the more players around you.

Lastly, the game’s rendering engine is very CPU bound and only uses a few cores worth of CPU cycles. Extra cores don’t help. And with a fairly powerful GPU, the difference the GPU takes to render the commands the CPU is sending, between low and high settings, is trivial compared to how long the CPU is taking to prepare the info it sends to the GPU.

No performance increase with the 780 Ti

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

It can’t be stressed enough, the phrase “for this game”. Games that are GPU bound, where faster more costly video cards, or multiple ones, greatly improve performance, CPU isn’t a large factor.

GW2 isn’t one of those games. So your 780i is grand for all those FPS games you enjoy but here, with a game that prefers more than 2 cores but benefit very little with more than 4 (even 3), which has only a few CPU intensive threads, single core performance is a metric to use in judging what CPU is better for this game than all cores performance.

Comparing stock clocks, an Intel i5-4670 would be roughly twice as fast as a Phenom II X6 1100T which is slightly faster than an FX-8350. The extra cores of the Phenom II hexcore or the FX octocore doesn’t matter since the limiting factor in GW2 is performance per core.

In the real world you might choose to pay more for an identical item because the box it’s in (or the store) doesn’t look like it’s been through a rock tumbler. But here, every copy of an item is identical. They aren’t “gently used” or “overstock” or “discontinued” versions. All sellers are equal in reputation, being anonymous. There are no “costs” involved to discover which seller is offering the item for less.

A “rational” player in this kind of market should always choose the cheapest.

Of course players aren’t “rational”, if they were so many wouldn’t be selling to highest bidder or buying from lowest seller as default.

doesnt really matter if inflation is caused by demand or supply or money, as long as it happens, its inflation.
It doesnt really apply to specific products, because it is a general term for prices overall in an economy, but since they qualified it with the word “precursor” I think you can get the meaning even if its not the correct semantics.

Why players are buying them faster than supply now? Well the whole skin thing is the primary reason. Once you have a precursor skin, all your character’s have access to it. A skin isn’t as good as a real precursor but people buy fake Rolex watches and Gucci bags to impress those around them in real life. The skin is a status symbol.

And ever scroll through the sell price list for an item? You’ll see that most times the prices increase more rapidly the further down the list you go. Now imagine players buying faster than sellers can supply on the TP and you can understand how the price can surge quickly while supply drops.

@Gunga Din

UniDyes went above 20s mid August last year after a supply collapse during the Queen’s Jubilee and has risen ever since to around 34s before news from China indicated something was up with dyes. When we got official word about the changes here, prices soared to 50s and then declined to the 35-40s range until the patch dropped and a HUGE supply became available and the dye market plummeted.

I’m assuming the demand spike is just another 1c flood to try to boost prices. And with UniDyes back in the 25s range and only a 10% chance of a rare dye and only 5 rares (not gem store) out of 81 worth more than 2.9g (taking fees and taxes into account), it’s not really a good lottery investment.

Yes, the game is not linear. It doesn’t take lead you like walking through Ikea. It’s sandbox like in that regard. No giant arrows showing you who to talk to next and no outleveling an area to “encourage” you to move on. You can level to 80 in the starter map if you want. You can level to 80 just by crafting in a city, if you have the gold.

Every activity it seems gives XP, from gathering (everyone gets their own copy) to rezzing downed players and NPCs (everyone can) to exposing the map and finding waypoints/POI/vistas. Crafting gives XP. Sure Heart quests are a source (not all are kill xx) and personal story another but so are events you stumble upon in the world as well as simple map clearing. Actually you get a nice XP bonus removing critters that have been unmolested for an hour so wander off the path and into the woods.

If you need to be guided talk to scouts on the map (telescope icons) and they will tell you about heart quests in the area. Look for event alerts on the right side of your screen when you get in range of one.

You are a brave adventurer who haven’t wandered the world yet. Go out and find all you can find, go everywhere and explore, help players without the guilt of “stealing” from them (no kill stealing, no XP splitting, no ninja loot rolls). The game is extremely coop.

Why we hear nothing but Silence from ANet?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

As it has been said here already… Anet can’t say or do /anything/ without people throwing a tantrum here on the forums.

…every time they make posts it’s a bunch of [rant rave] I dont know about you, but if I had to deal with that on an hourly basis, it would not belong before I told Anet [rant rave] I’m not dealing with a bunch of whining brats all day everyday."

Frankly I wouldn’t say anything myself if I was them-answering hastily to outcries will do nothing, and could even make things worse.

It’s not an easy situation for them. If they don’t say anything they get criticized for that.

Because most of the users are childish and immature and will hold anything a dev says against them if anything gets side tracked.

Add on that a majority of the kvetching is rude, mean-spirited, and rife with entitlement, and they have very little incentive to give any scraps to the mongrel pit. -_-

If you want more dev interaction on these forums, it’ll take months of you guys exercising self-control and not attacking them or their work.
These forums haven’t been respectful enough to earn further dev interaction. If I worked for ArenaNet, I’d NEVER come here.

When the entire forum is cheering for the devs’ deaths after the recent patch, I think if I were a dev, I’d remain quiet as well. Just my two cents…

I do honestly think that, if we set the right tone, we’d start to see a lot more developers feel comfortable posting here.

That isn’t feedback so much as pouting. I cannot imagine why they aren’t breaking down the gates to listen to that.

Frankly, they have nothing to gain from posting anything that is not in FINAL stages of implementation.

If the people writing at my forums were like the kittens posting in these forums, I wouldn’t pay any attention either.

Even if they reply with a “Yes we are reading all your comments about the new features but it will take us some time before we can reply about specific problems”, it won’t satisfy 99% of those complaining on the forums.

So, either some people complain or a lot more people complain. Either way it won’t stop the complaints. “It’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

And if they did people would still complain about them not doing enough

And THIS is a perfect example of why they do not bother responding. Nothing they say is ever good enough, someone will always complain, someone will always find a reason to complain.

Do you guys realize that you are implying that the Anet staff are a bunch of ultra-sensitive wimps that can’t even stomach a few lines of text on an internet forum?

I, like many others here, might have a sour opinion of them for the nerf and silent treatment coktail. But even I don’t think they are THAT bad.

On the contrary. We are implying that the habitual complainers on the forum won’t be satisfied by any answer from ANet that isn’t agreeing with the complainers position 100% so it’s not worth ANet’s time to engage them at all.

A simple acknowledgement of reading the feedback has already been dismissed by some posters as being pointless. If they acknowledge a point it will be held as a sacred vow that what that point refers to will be changed. Any vague reference to time like “in the future” or “soon” is translated as next week or next patch. And when it doesn’t come out on the player’s timetable, cries of lier and promise breaker is heard on the forums.

It’s really a no win situation for them. So why stick their hand in the hungry piranha tank? Much easier to release public statements on the main site and simply collect feedback here on the forums than try to carry on a constructive conversation because most of the conversation on the boards aren’t constructive at all.

The 262g jump at a little after noon EDT (849g to 1111.1111g) came when the supply went from 2 to only 1. And now that new supply is coming in, the 1111g price is simply being slowly undercut. When supply went from 2 to 3, a seller offered a Dawn at 1000g and it was snapped up in about 10 minutes. It’s down to 1100g with 7 in supply as a write this.

So either 800g was undervalue and the market can support 1100g or this 1100g level will decay over time closer to the 800g price it was 24 hours ago as more supply arrives. The trick is to be patient. Supply hasn’t been affected. Large amounts of gold hadn’t been injected into the game’s economy.

Roughly 1 million karma, or 480 laurels or 7200 fractal relics. At 40 laurels a month that’s a year. No idea how many relics you can farm daily. Also unsure how much karma you can make per hour doing events.

Guild banks can’t be restored. They’ve stated this on multiple occasions. If you quit your one person guild, even by accident, I believe the game deletes the guild.

Even if it was a bug, they simply don’t have backups of guilds.
