What type of challenge is most fun to you?

“What type of challenge is most fun to you?”

The type where I have fun playing it.

Unfortunately, that type is not in this game – due to redundant game play, a lack of complex skills and no sense of diversity among builds. It’s bland, boring and tedious. There’s no feeling of weight where skills have that heavy impact and makes you feel like you’ve accomplished a feat when you pull off a successful combo etc.

I’m all with ya, OP.

This isn’t a video game. It’s an ego-stroking (via gear grinds & achievements), money grubbing (RNG casino), delusional masquerade that happens to be the very antithesis of “fun”.

That’s not true. Again, I’m a console player and that’s mainly because the lot of games I play are geared around game play, not loot. If they can get me, then why can’t they get the hundreds of thousands of other console players?

If Anet wants to be truly innovative, then they can devise a way to move this mindset over to the game play & combat etc.

For the recorded, I decided to play this game becuase ArenaNet said they were going to innovate the MMO genre. I haven’t played any other MMOs other than this franchise, so I’m not familiar with the loot mindset, but I certainly tell you that if that’s what makes the MMO genre… then that’s BULL kitten!

IMO, this mindset is an infection and needs to be destroyed.

You say that they should focus on making the game fun, however could you give suggestions how?

The game is not fun because the primary focus seems to be rewards, loot etc. That’s a terrible way to run a video GAME.

You need to focus on the game play itself. The skills, the combat, the character development that impacts your skills and so on. People should be signing in because they actually want to go out in the world and just fight stuff. That’s not happening. People are signing in because they’re grinding for loot… BOOOOO!!!!

There needs to be more depth with skills and combat. It needs to be fun to play, not because it’s a “challenge”, but because just using the skills is entertaining… not redundant.

In fact, like a lot of successful games that pull this off (albeit different genres), people are rewarded for just using the skills… and not with loot, but with character animations, cool effects, an impact where you feel the power of your skills being used on your enemy. That’s a good reward. You put this reward behind a deep and complex skill system, where the customization is high and results in many different variations of combat that people can enjoy.

That’s a video game. That’s fun. Not this rewards mindset that people are seemingly conditioned to. D;

Guild Wars 2 is in the “pixarification” era. Sad but true.

http://youtu.be/rz6W0h3r30k

There’s some great adult concepts, but they’re deluded and broken down to appeal to younger audiences, which just defeats the purpose of having adult themes. At this point, all of the content being added isn’t working on developing a complex theme, it’s just reinforcing it with fluff and cash shop junk.

Of course, in the end, it’s all about making money.

Transmutation Splitter on a Weapon Skin

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

I have an Aetherized Pistol Skin I gave to a character I wish to delete. I, of course, am trying to save the skin. If I use a Transmutation Splitter, will that give me back the skin as an account bound item?

I read about this process on the splitter wiki page:

Another example: A player wants to pass a soulbound weapon from one character to another on the same account, typically done for legendaries. First transmute the weapon into a white weapon (with stats). This way you get an account bound item. Place it on the bank and retrieve it with the desired charater. Then use a Transmutation Splitter and you get your original weapon soulbound to the new character.

Although that sounds extremely risky. Do I dare?

If I love GW2, why so bored when I play?

My three biggest gripes are:

1. The game doesn’t feel visceral. There’s not enough weight to the combat and overall system. I don’t feel like I’m in the world of Tyria. I don’t feel like my skills have any solid impact. Enemies don’t feel like a threat, nor do they convey the scary tones they darn well should be doing.

2. The atmosphere is too much like a Disney film. Nothing wrong with some playful themes, but there is something wrong when it’s the driving force for the entire game. Furthermore, why is it that 99.9% of the time I’m in the game, it’s day time? Where did night go off to? Why is night time not lasting long enough? Why is it that some areas of the game don’t even feel like night time to begin with (Frostgorge, for example). Darker themes and a serious take on adult concepts would be much appreciated.

3. The end game. It just blows. Rewards, achievements, collectibles… these ideas are destroying the game play. People don’t band together to play a game, they band together to optimize time so they can get their rewards as fast as possible. This is ridiculous.

Game is beyond boring...

Fastest way to obtain Dragonite Ore?

in Players Helping Players

I’ve got enough to craft nearly two ascended greatswords, except I don’t have the dragonite ingots.

This is really frustrating. I’m barely able to get on at times when I can get about 20 – 30 from a dragon or two before reset. This is proving to be more time consuming than it’s worth.

I can get the emperyal shards with ease. Everyone farms dungeons and at just about any time I’m on.

Not the same for meta events. They’re either not running when I get on or no one is around to help complete them. The ones I can stick around for are the ones that offer like 3 ore pieces…. lame…

The sad thing is that I really do want to play. I just get stuck at the login screen, wondering rather or not there’s anything I can do that isn’t a grind.

It would be awesome if they fixed the overall game-play by making skills feel like they matter and making the use of them + combos fell rewarding. There’s such a lack of depth with the combat.

Imagine if Anet shifted focus with the way rewards worked. What if we were rewarded for using skills and pulling off combos? The skill system would need to be revamped, made more complex and given more depth, but it would certainly be worth it.

Again, taking say Resident Evil 5. It just feels so fun and like an accomplishment when I pull off a physical combo on a boss. That kind of game-play reward system, where the game-play is actually the focus. It’s not just the fact that I pulled off a combo either. It’s also the awesome animations and cool effects that come as a result. Know what I mean?

I’m a pretty big supporter of the Guild Wars franchise. I played GW1 a lot and spent probably even more time on GW2 over this past year. Hell, the amount of money I spent on gems is probably close to a grand. I don’t take it back and I know the money will go to support future players, rock on to that.

Recently I was playing and stopped to look at the new SAB achievements. Something just clicked and I’m now confused, demoralized and fear playing GW2 because I feel manipulated.

I played this game because it was a breathe of fresh air. It was fun to explore the world and finish my storyline, try dungeons for the first time and get a taste of what there was. Yet now that I’ve gotten my share of the gameplay, my whole perspective changed without me recognizing it until too late. My focus on GW2 became a constant, almost robotic, effort to keep my AP high and get the top gear so I could prance around with cool armor etc.

Yet is that really why I enjoy this game? So I can waste all of my time on something that’s actually 100% irrelevant and does nothing but promote my ego? Sure I understand the sense of pride and enjoyment from “winning”, yet it feels so stereotypical and even deceptive when the primary focus is achievements and not gameplay.

Now keep in mind that I’m not an MMO player. Guild Wars has been the only MMO franchise I’ve ever played. So I’m not aware of how end-gaming works. Yet I can certainly tell you that it doesn’t feel right at all.

When I play console games, like say Resident Evil or Mass Effect, there’s an end to the content and yet I can easily find myself wasting a ridiculous amount of hours to continue playing. Why is that? Because the gameplay is that darn entertaining.

That same feeling doesn’t exist in this game and I feel hurt. If this is how a truly phenomenal MMO is supposed to be, then I’ve got to quit. It’s turning me into a machine where I lose all dignity and drop loads of cash to create the illusion that I’m having fun, when in reality, all the items I’ve gotten have done nothing but make me feel worthless. Everyone has what I have, they all think like I do, where we all feel like we’re the best… just ego-stroking nonsense.

This isn’t a video game. It’s a community of sheep, all playing the same cash crop of lies where worth is determined by gear and achievements. That in itself just spits on any foundation this game may have had since it’s very inception.

I honestly just don’t feel right playing this anymore. If I can even call it “playing”.

I think many people misinterpret this topic. They tend to suggest a contrast between the playful light stuff and adult mindlessness. It’s simply not true.

Dark tones add to the realism. The more realism there is, the more I (and others) are going to be able to take things seriously. It makes a huge difference in the story to have those realistic themes. It amplifies the emotion we feel and therefor builds a stronger connection with the overall lore and theme of the game.

Right now I feel severely disconnected, simply because I can’t take anything as being serious.

PvP ranks choosing the same side? ewwwww

in PvP

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

Clearly it’s all about winning to them, so they’ll pick a color and stick to it for however long they play, leaving the other side at a huge disadvantaged with low ranks etc.

Your system is broken, Anet.

Today I spent testing this system. I kept to whichever side didn’t have high ranks. I’d join a game, play until the end and get a look at who was top and who’d stay for the next round etc.

I lost every match (yet ranked top each time) and it wasn’t just due to a lack of rank on my side. We always had one less player.. ALL THE TIME. Every time auto-balance would come up, my heart would race in the anticipation that finally I’d get a semi-fair game! Nope. It would auto, then I check the list and there’s still one less player. Clearly either someone jumped over to blue immediately or I’m just severely unlucky and people are joining the game at the exact time of the balance. sigh

There needs to be a new filter which can prevent players from ever choosing or switching sides. This crap is insane. D=

I think she will say that since the aetherblade attack at the Queen’s Jubilee, the Seraph and Shining Blade have been investigating the incident. She can now reveal who the mysterious Scarlet person is behind it all, but of course just then Scarlet appears again and we find out about her nefarious plans to take over Tyria.

Now all the pieces of the puzzle begin to make sense: the dredge and flame legion disruptions, incidents at Southsun Cove, Canach and Kiel’s involvement in her plans (willing or unwilling), and the story behind the aetherblade pirates.

Of course, it will be time for a dungeon where we will have to defeat Scarlet and her army. On our side we’ll have watchknights, Rox and Braham to help us in the battle.

Sounds about right. I’ll add to it by suggesting that the Pirate Council won’t give their full support, however, the newly elected Kiel will push the council to see reason.

Purple Runes on the Greatsword Fellblade

Blackmoon.6837

This is a different thread from the people requesting the shadowy effect, so don’t go creating some confusion.

I’d like to suggest we get a greatsword version of the new ‘Lord Taeres’s Shadow’ champion skin.

Something I should probably note is that I’m a GW1 fan and have the HoM fellblade unlocked. Point being is there’s no reason for me to get upset if you were to add this skin to the GS list. The fellblade without the runes would still be exclusive to HoM rewards and therefor it’s still unique. So it makes no sense to argue otherwise. In any case, here’s a better idea of what could be done:

1. Improve the shadow effect for the HoM Fellblade to match that of the ‘Lord Taeres’s Shadow’ skin.
2. Make a greatsword version of ‘Lord Taeres’s Shadow’. It can be gained from a champ bag or w/e.
3. Keep the original Fellblade obtainable through HoM rewards.

There, is that not proper?

The other thing you have to consider is that one event is history, while the other is current. History can be told anytime Anet feels like it. The current event is taking place now, so why not act on it while it’s still taking place? We have a chance to make history! Isn’t that more relevant?
