1. A god is a god. Anet can bring any of their gods into the game any which way they choose and at anytime without actually ruining anything lore-wise. Why? ugghhh… it’s gods. Do whatever with gods, isn’t that the point of some higher power that apparently controls and owns everything?

2. With the reactor fractal, Anet has a chance to offer something so outlandish and new to the lore, it could even affect the gods. Ooooooo…

Ellen is a refresher for the council. They need a chair taken by someone who has a more down to Tyria feel for things. Someone who hasn’t been tainted by the corruption that is money.

I’m actually voting because I want to see good for the future lore of Tyria, not because of some fractal event.

Besides, the fall of a god is not that interesting to me. There’s nothing new about it. Just the same old mythological stuff we read in our history books. meh. It’s time to bend space and time with someone interesting new concepts… such as chaos magic.

Found it funny. Ellen represents the Role Model of how we all should be, defending the weak, protecting her city, serving the people, the hero basically. Evon represents the Politicians who buy their power or even the business man who pays to get what he wants. Just like modern day politics!

PS: Ellen will be getting all my support, I’ll be farming in my sleep for Support Tokens.

What’s ironic is how Evon supporters are voting for him because of the fractal (due specifically to lore reasons). Yet they fail to take into account the lore being setup if Evon takes the chair.

Very much like modern day politics; voting for the greedy, shady money that’s been veiled behind “big promises”.

This entire event is a parody of our current political system. How sad that even within fantasy we can’t make rational choices.

An Actual Problem with GW2

Blackmoon.6837

I didn’t make this post so you guys could play the blame game. I was merely hoping to have a discussion about a mindset being developed within this community.

It’s clear as day that rewards are set as a major issue among the lot of you. I want to know why rewards have to be such a priority. Why not aim at reworking replay value so people can have fun taking on missions without ever having a second thought about how they’ll be rewarded? Wouldn’t that be a better improvement? Imagine, end-game, people signing in because they actually want to fight the flame legion and not worry too much about tokens, gold or w/e.

I’m not suggesting we take away rewards. I’m simply wondering how such a grand MMO has withered down to greed.

1. A revised version of the Ravenheart costume from the first Guild Wars. It’s the whole elegant design that I miss. Something more stylish and not so chaotic with all that bone and spike stuff all over the place (like what you designed for our first Halloween here in GW2). D;

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ravenheart_Witchwear

2. Simple face cosmetics, such as changing lip colors or adding eye shadows to characters that normally don’t get such options.

Here’s a cool idea:

3. SPELL BOOKS! That’s right, just like the new dance move books, except strictly based on casting spells for fun!

For example, you buy your first spell book which consist of 5 different spells you can cast. All of which have cool effects and animations that last for a few seconds to entertain you and your friends.

Skill #1: Summon an undead skeleton that crawls out of the ground and runs around, terrorizing all who surround it. It’ll shout, have cool animations etc. Then it disappears – crawling back into the ground.

Skill #2: Cast an illusive dragon that flies around your character, leaving a trail of magical wonder. Then watch as it explodes above your head!

Cool stuff like that. ;3

An Actual Problem with GW2

Err…are you really asking if we’re sure if we want more stuff to work towards?

The context of that question can swing several ways. Working towards “more stuff” could easily imply the idea of someone having fun from the challenge of the game. That alone has been the very definition of a great game. Guild Wars 2 is clearly failing because we see more complaints about rewards than we do for fixing replay value.

Forgive my disingenuous attempt at belittling all of the other complaints or “criticisms”, people have previously noted, with the title of this post. I simply find it rather humorous that no one has yet to mention a more underlining point behind everyone’s fascination with rewards.

ArenaNet’s goal for this game was to take the very concept of an MMO and strengthen the values derived thereof. This is why we have so much emphasis on teamwork; having to deal with group efforts instead of individual skill to determine the outcome of any event that isn’t instanced. The entire game was made with the notion of aggrandizing community play over solitary behavior.

That wonderful idea has become overwhelmed by egomania. No one seems to care anymore about the rest of the game. The mass attitude being displayed as of late is rage over the supposed lack of prize for time given. People just want rewards, they want them quick and they want to feel encumbered by such.

It feels as if the players have more concern for their own prominence in the game instead of obtaining enjoyment from a collaboration.

“I don’t want achievement rewards to include daily and monthly points because too many other people are going to have excessive amounts before me.”

“The risk & reward system is not adequate to what’s necessary for me to immediately display my dedication over other players.”

“The living story is wasted time. You should be focusing on giving us more shiny stuff to continue our charade of ego stroking.”

Now it’s happening. ArenaNet is partially listening and your rewards are growing.

So let me ask. Are you sure this is what you want?

Mesmers in gw1 could so use swords. There was a build called illusion weaponry combined with flurry for a barrage of unblockable unnegatable damage.

You know what I meant.

Sure, pick warrior as your secondary and throw 12 points into swordsmanship, however, that defeats the point of having something that’s meant to be heavy offense.

IW was weak and aside from a few farming spots, there’s no way you’d make it with a build like that for meta game.

Essentially what we have now is the concept I was expecting in GW1. Instead of half of our skills being relative to a warrior, we get one elite enchantment.

I’m not asking for ArenaNet to stop the RNG. I’m simply looking for ways to improve how people are rewarded for indulging in this system. Clearly the RNG alone is in need of some major tweaks, enough so that it may prove to be a detriment to the current profits (which obviously the companies don’t want).

There has to be a better compromise. Offering two tiers of boxes is the right direction, but it’s still not fair to people who are spending money.

Although I feel slightly cheated in a sense. It’s a simple weapon skin and out of an amount of cash that could easily support an expansion’s worth of content… you’d think the odds were a bit better.

Perhaps it could be possible to give users an improved chance at rare items from the normal coffers as a result of not getting anything from an (x)amount of rich coffers? Does that not sound fair?

Blackmoon.6837

Yes, I know a majority of the forum seems to just have gobs of dosh laying around from exploiting game bugs, exploiting other players (bltc) and CoFp1 spamming, but really…

This is ridiculous:

  • Mini costs 125 racing tokens.
  • You earn a maximum of 7 tokens for winning a moa race. 3 for 2nd, 1 for third.
  • You have a 20% chance of winning (un-alterable)
  • It costs 50s per bet.
  • You only earn money if you turn in your tokens for winner’s bags. Saving your tokens for the mini earns you nothing.

That is an absolute minimum of 9g you would have to spend assuming that you won 1st EVERY round (which you won’t) – and 62.5g assuming worst case scenario in which you still win 3rd place.

Anyone else feel this is a bit excessive for a mini?

As long as the mini is exotic, then it’s quite fitting. Take a look at the exotics on the trading post. Some are much worse than 63g.

Furthermore, I doubt everyone will be hitting exactly that amount. Most will probably hit right in between, making it a good 30g mini. Still needs to be exotic though, imo.

The dialogue... oh lord, the dialogue...

in Personal Story

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

I do usually cite Mass Effect and/or Dragon Age in these discussions, but for good reason. You need that emotion if you’re ever to tell a great story. In real life we may have relatively similar tones and feelings of good etc. That’s real life though. Fantasy is where we go to explore the infinite spectrum. It’s all about being able to delve into a piece of thought that compromises our emotions.

None of that is in the Guild Wars 2 story. The idea and concepts are epic, but the telling of the story is not. The characters all seemingly share a tiny section of what should be an infinite spectrum.

Furthermore, the lack of animations seems to hinder any favorable odds that dialog may currently have. There should be sitting, jumping, diving and rolling! Even more subtle interactions, such as pats on the back or pushing/shoving, are better than just standing still and nodding a head or pointing a finger.

I would like to see the posts from the GW2 website fed into the “My Story” tab. It can show a red " ! " when there is a new story entry like when you level and have a new trait point to use.

Each update that has story posts can have the content thrown into the “My Story” tab. We click on each event as a form of a drop down. I guess it works a lot like the wiki, but this is just another alternative of displaying information.

Attached an example I created real quick in Photoshop.

You can probably add those images as event tabs in achievements too to create some visuals.

It doesn’t work.

The ‘My Story’ tab is supposed to be strictly for your character’s development. It’s the collection of events that lead your character into who’ve they’ve become to date; character development. So having some random info of an interview with Canach is completely out of place.

Why not have a group of Asura design a new piece of tech that’s given out to all of the people of Tyria, or at least to those who choose to use it or can actually obtain it. For us, it’ll be a new user interface and right at the front of it is all of the news around Tyria (interviews with Canach etc.). There could be a second tab which (as I suggested above) catalogs dialog interactions. Then there could be a third tab which cites all of the events you’ve currently been through, such as battling the Claw of Jormag or helping Farmer Diah in the Shaemoor Fields. It could list times etc.

Need explanations re: Dredge fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Blackmoon.6837

I love this fractal. There’s so much loot to be had!

My tips:

1. Kill all the dredge you can. Running past or skipping usually results in someone going down.

2. At the beginning of the run, take out the dredge vets guarding the doors.

3. For the center room, you need to be sneaky. The trick here is to take out the dredge on either the right or left side. Don’t aggro the the side you’re not aiming to clear and do not press any buttons when inside. Wait until you clear half the room and then get your group re-organized and prepared for button activation. You can do this because clearing one side, without pressing a button or extra aggro, will not trigger any spawns. So you get a breather.

You then decide who does what. It’s best to have a bunker/tanker type to kite around. It’s relatively easy to keep mobs off of the personal using the device, as long as they’re geared up properly and can attack any spawns that appear around that person.

That’s about it. Getting through the dome is the hardest part, imo.

Yet again, no one considers the gold/gem transfer system. In addition, there is no subscription fee. So Anet needs to make quite a load of money to continue furthering the game.

In regards to the RNG of shop items, it’s a necessity. Not all of the items can be one-time purchases without Anet losing money over the gem/gold transfer system. Furthermore, having limited time items is what helps keep sales in check.

If all of the items were a one-time deal and they all were left in the shop indefinitely, then no one would care to spend real money when they can spend time farming gold to get gems instead.

A real solution would be to remove the gold/gem transfer system, however, doing this would only upset the community. So Anet sort of screwed themselves over. So now, unless someone can come up with a better idea which allows Anet to keep a constant budget for more content, RNG for certain shop items is a must.

storytelling & background info impressions

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

Here’s what I feel needs to improve for the GW2 story development:

1. Dialog with NPCs should be realistic, in a sense. The first thing to be done is to give special dialog based on character personalities. I also firmly believe that whenever we get options to choose from, those options should be a one-time deal. So once we’ve clicked through the dialog and picked options (which altered the dialog), re-talking with the NPC will have that convo-ending small talk dialog and everything you just discussed previously will be longer be repeatable.

Not allowing us to repeat certain dialog is imperative to realistic dialog. It will also make our personality choices feel like they matter.

2. Why not create some more UI that allows us to catalog all of the minor events we’ve been through? Seems like a thing for your character’s personal story tab, right? The difference is this will keep log of all of the minor events you go through. It could be a personal journal that our character notes down their experiences with the NPCs around Tyria and the options they chose. That way, if people missed some dialog because they scammed through it, they can pop up their journal and take note.

If done correctly, it could also be a neat way for people to create their own personal scavenger hunts. Assuming there are NPCs around Tyria that give hints to secret areas etc. Build on those dialogs, again, no options are repeatable, thus this journal becomes very handy.

3. Books? We have cool UI dungeon books in GW1. I was so expecting GW2 to have an amped up version of that. Instead, when we click a book, we get a few sentences and no new UI to go with it. What a bummer. There should be libraries in places like Divinity’s Reach that have lots of books with cool looking UI and a couple of chapters worth of information to read through.

Story Needs Major Work

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

I’m a huge fan or Guild Wars and have been around since the beginning of GW1. One thing is really starting to bug me about GW2 and I felt the need to address it with this little thread.

The story.

It lacks depth and comes off as a minor inconvenience more than anything. When I first started playing in beta, I was expecting dialog between NPCs that felt realistic. Dialog where your character would be recognized and options that had an impact.

Right now the story is spread too thin and has no substance.

I understand that you may need a better team/budget for things like new animations and voice acting, however, here are ideas that shouldn’t require much and would make a huge difference:

1. Give us books. I don’t mean literal novels in the game, however, where’s the updated versions of dungeon books like what we had in GW1? I was hoping we’d get libraries in places like the main cities, where we could chill at, open a book and start reading a few pages worth of information about the lore.

2. We need more depth with character & NPC interactions. NPCs should be able to recognize your character based on your personality setup. We should then have options to choose from that’ll change subjects in the dialog – much like real life.

3. This very important… stop allowing us to repeat dialog and personality options. Any kind of dialog that offers an option to choose from (which would change that dialog) should NOT BE REPEATABLE. If you truly want a story that’ll impact us the players, then you need to offer one-time interactions that give players that sense of importance. This is even more valuable for personalities.

4. Personalities. Where are they? We have no indications of them other than some little icon in our hero panel. You must be joking…

Fixing that stuff requires teams willing to write awesome loads of stuff for us to read and perhaps design some cool UI to support the depth (books). New animations and voices are a side thing that’ll be a plus to see in later development…

As for right now. The depth of writing material is great place to start.

Titles Should Have an Effect

in Suggestions

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

I would suggest having alternative or additional particle effects based on titles. For example, all of the champion titles (from spvp tournaments) give a cool aura effect relative to that class’ normal color design; mesmer = purple/pink, thief = smoke stuff etc.

- Another idea could be changing colors of effects or changing the effect in general. Such as the mesmer’s laser beam for GS skill #1.

- Certain titles could give access to new dialog options that are heard when your character performs something relative to that title. Such as going down in a dungeon with dungeon master. Passing certain points or killing a boss would prompt the new dialog.

- New emotes can be obtained.

My main point, however, is that no title should give an advantage in combat. It needs to be purely cosmetic otherwise it’ll create more segregation for group play.

Different Difficulties for Guild Missions

in Suggestions

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

It’s is an absolute struggle to maintain my small guild. We once had something that was getting somewhere, yet ever since guild missions were implemented, we’ve gone completely downhill.

Most of my members either left or don’t represent us anymore, especially for the Saturday mission resets. They’ve flocked to bigger guilds to leech those commendations while my guild is stuck still trying to complete our weekly before the next reset.

I would love it if it were more fair. A difficultly system would be a tremendous help.

How it could work:

Five difficulty settings, one of which will be automatically placed on a guild. The setting will be based on the amount of guild members (representing or not). So a guild of 50 or less will get the easiest setting.

Settings work based on categorizing the content. Easy stuff. Take bounties for example. 2-Mult is absurd while Trillia Midwell is a cake walk. It’s already pretty divided. Just needs to allocated as such to make it fair for small guilds to progress.

On Lottery (RNG) Boxes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

We don’t have the statistics behind Anet’s yield, nor do we know their budget and limitations etc.

The point is that every one of these “complain about RNG threads” forgets about the obvious: gold can be used to obtain gems.

That is precisely why Anet has to compromise and find ways to maintain the system, otherwise there’s no incentive to give up your cash when you can clearly just farm gold to get shop items. So Anet creates limited time offers and RNG to help manage that threat.

To all of those who say they’ll pay real money if they knew exactly what they’d get… you’re full of it, that or you make up the minority.

Think about this…

Why would Anet release the first Quaggan backpack as a standalone item to purchase and yet throw the next releases in RNG? I’m willing to bet that when they released that first backpack, many people said kitten it and just farmed CoF and got it that way.

Standalone items probably don’t cut it thanks to the gold/gem transfer system.

So the real solution is:

1. Remove the gold/gem transfer system.
or
2. Deal with it.

Blind is becoming a huge pain in the kitten Not only do I not get damage through, which makes sense, but my survivability goes down the drain because I can’t get illusions up without doing damage.

I’m trying so hard not to play meta. I can’t stand the idea of being forced to meta to win. kitten is difficult creating something original for yourself without running into these crap mechanics.

op wasnt about it being bothersome. just a general question

My apologies. I just don’t see a reason to inquiring over the subject matter of fiction unless it is being opposed.

Quite frankly, not to be rude, it should be common sense as to why religion is in stories. There are numerous reasons as to how it works in a story; it’s just a matter of how you interpret it. When it boils down to interpretation, well that’s when we get to the essence of personal enjoyment etc. No reason to go further I say.

I suppose I’m just having a hard time understanding the complexity that Holyblesserx is suggesting.

Nothing wrong with it. Stories can have any and all kinds of elements to help develop thoughts or ideas and get the audience thinking.

In this story there are six gods.

FYI, I’m also an atheist. Nevertheless, gods in stories have never bugged me and sometimes are fun to indulge in, depending on the story of course. Fiction is fiction, so have fun with it, yea?
