I do think it’s a problem. The solution isn’t going to come from better loot either. I firmly believe a lot of it is just mindsets. For example, I love taking on the “trash” mobs not just for loot, but it’s a challenge sometimes, and that’s fun to me. So I have a reason beyond loot, which sadly others don’t share. Poor ol’ me.
Still, the mindset I see across the board is “gold, gimme gold, l337 gear & fame! I wanna be a specialz person! RAWR!”.
The first time I did it for my daily, no reward.
I tried a second time thinking it was a bug and instead of my daily karma/booster etc. I got DR (the 3 gifts).
Well darn…
First of all, those items were from Wintersday Mystery Boxes. Secondly, this isn’t a thread to complain about the RNG system. We all have our good and bad days with it and ultimately…. random is random… So let’s move along. =P
The only reason I post that screeny was to show that it’s very possible for people to have many extras they don’t have any use for. For all the cash and/or gold we spend on gems, we should at the least get a little exchange out of the account bound items.
Such a waste if I have to delete 6 festive hats.
Can we have a recipe to get rid of the extra account bound stuff we don’t want? I’m surprised you guys didn’t implement one like you did for the previous events.
It doesn’t even have to be a Wintersday Mystery Box. It could be a new chest containing items that are the same as the puzzle chest. Some karma and a random booster. Just a thought. . .
It’s fine if you make the purchased minis account bound, but at the very least you could allow Foostivoo to be traded.
I’ve been trying to complete Lv20 for my daily for the past couple of days and every single time ends with a disconnect of some sort. I either get kicked back to the character screen or everything freezes up (with animations on infinite loops) and then I’m dropped to a black screen &/or the client just exits out. Nothing else has caused this before except for The Lost Shores event (karka legendary battle).
This is getting upsetting. D=
These complaints are mind-boggling. It all reads as selfish behavior and it’s disappointing.
Just for starters, the content is free. Apparently that’s not good enough. What makes this uproar even more shocking is how no one is considering their choices and willing to accept the consequences as a result. You’re not being forced to indulge in the content. You guys need to take a step back out of that perfect little bubble of yours and realize what you’re actually doing.
Bleh!
Anyways, back on topic. I’ll be adding the golem tonic tomorrow to complete my four and take the gamble. Wish me luck!
I have 6 extra Festive Hats and 3 extra minis, and I already have Foostivoo the Merry. Any chance I’ll get the option to throw these extra account bound items into the mystic forge for more Wintersday Mystery Boxes or something?
Also, off topic a bit, but what is the news about getting more bank slots beyond 8? I’m severely running out of space.
Polar bears were a cute little gimmick we saw pop up during Wintersday in guild wars. So why not followup with something even greater than a minipet with a red ribbon around it’s neck?
Just like Halloween, we could get a nice unique backpack – a Polar Bear Teddy!
Eh, I’m probably dreaming…
1. You could have challenge modes that’ll offer bonus rewards upon completion. Furthermore, these modes can cater to those who have the time to spare and actually want to combat mobs instead of “skipping trash”. So in essence, you’re giving players who don’t skip a chance at something good for their efforts.
To make it more interesting, these modes can be time-based, so your group focuses on coordinating the best tactics to drop the mobs the fastest way. So you’d be promoting speed-clears, but without the “skip trash” mindset.
There could even be titles implemented into this system.
The biggest problem with dungeons comes from the entire way that a lot of players are thinking. It’s this mindset of “gold gold gold, gimme gold”. The question is not about how to make dungeons more attractive, but instead it’s how do you create a game that doesn’t encourage these narrow mindsets without actually dismantling anyone?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skritt_Burglar
Four locations to spawn with four different achievements and loot bags (plus a big loot bag when you defeat her) per spawn. Each spawn is random and separated based on the four areas:
Shiverpeak mountains.
Ascalon.
Kryta.
Maguuma
Good luck.
Very cool, but you could give me hope and impress me more by showing the same skills with a Mesmer. >_>
Honor of the Waves is my favorite. I’m not sure why, to be honest. I just love playing it, from the loot to fighting every enemy. I’ve even constructed special builds for it.
Typically I like to run it daily for the rewards and I don’t skip content either. I enjoy taking on the Svanir and dishing out as much damage as I can, via the nourishment (powerful potion) and the sigil dmg buff.
I’m not sure how else to explain why I like it. It’s not really an “easy” dungeon, but it’s not uber difficult either. Fits perfectly for me.
To further the depth, our character’s personality should be reflected in the emotes. For example, a brute type would have a different cheer than a charming type. I’d also suggest making town clothing accessible based on your character’s personality. Granted these things would take a lot of effort and time to make, it would be more than worth it in the end.
Currently, personalities don’t feel like anything special whatsoever.
Can’t have both? Come now…
Could we get more stats that keep track of things like how many times you completed a dungeon and how many times you’ve quit/lost. There’s a lot more info you could add into an extra tab.
When implementing stats like that, you could also work in funny little concepts like “So & So’s worst enemy” – that stat showing which enemy type has killed you the most.
Could we get better chances at receiving rings that are based on the stats we’re currently using?
I don’t get it… One of my guildies has already received 3 rings, and all of them are with berserker stats. I just completed a run with a different guildy who also got a berserker ring, and of course, when I get a ring in the same run… toughness and condition damage (face palm).
This is driving me crazy. At least give us an option to mystic forge the rings we don’t want into stats that work for us.
I’m hoping for a polar bear teddy backpack. Heh, come on… would be cute and awesome at the same time.
On the subject of loot versus “trash” mobs, I’ve experienced quite the opposite effect that people seem to be claiming here.
I run HotW (all paths & no skipping) just about every day. As far as time goes, that depends on the group, but the average for all three runs is anywhere from 2-3 hours.
Interestingly, the majority of rares I receive are from the mobs. Most rares I get from bosses or chests are mats like glacial cores. I hardly ever get any rare armor or weapons, which of course doesn’t seem right. To add to that, I don’t use MF gear. I do use omnomberry tarts (with powerful potions of svanir slaying), but that’s it. So I’m not sure what to think. But so far, killing mobs has been worth it for me.
I agree that there is an underlying problem, but the problem is not with gear, it is with people.
Yup.
I’ve been running dungeons daily for the past month and most of the groups I form are pugs. The only problems I’ve ever witnessed is from either a lack of coordination between the group or people leaving during battle (rather it be a d/c or just downright disagreement). I still have yet to see a run foiled over MF gear.
One of the best groups I’ve ever been in was a group of 4 mesmers. It was just another pug group taking on HotW Path 2 (no skipping). We had a warrior as our fifth who dropped out right before that first champion (literally the beginning). With just the four of us running, it was bloody awesome. I miss that group. . .
Yes, mesmers have plenty of support. Believe it or not, mass invisi and portal come in handy all the time. I pretty much use them daily at some point during my dungeon runs. For example, CoF Path 1 – the part where you carry the flame balls past the rolling fire balls. I always port my group and it’s ridiculously quick.
Mass invisibility is great for times when your group is taking too much heat and needs a way to pull out and re-organize. Heck, even a skill like Illusionary Wave is helpful for a downed player that has too many enemies hording over him/her.
As mentioned above, it is more for control, but control in a way that’ll definitely “support” the group.
It’s not quite fair at the moment, for those who do enjoy taking on all of the content. The best way I handle it is by making the group myself. I tell every person up front that we’re not skipping anything and no exploits. Most of the time people will stay. Although, this usually does take a long time to get a good group running.
Why not have a bonus chest similar to finishing an even run in FotM? So if your group killed every enemy for the path they chose, then they’ll get something extra on the side – something worth it, of course.
You should be able to begin and finish them whenever you feel like it, i play mmo since 1998 and im’ from the old school. I don’t see why you should put a quantity of time. We used to be able to go into a dungeon, party in our way deep inside and leavev when we feel like it, it was the good time i guess.
I’m no oldschooler to MMOs but I love what you’re saying. There shouldn’t be a set time that determines the success of a dungeon. People make that choice, but whatever people choose, no one should be able to dictate what’s good or bad for someone else.
That’s all dungeons are now – speed clears. Don’t want to skip or take on an exploit? Oh, that’s cool, then get ridiculed, never find a group and good luck completing the run.
So fun.
I hadn’t noticed these odd problems until just recently. For starters, the ability to view the newest chat responses without the entire window popped up is no longer working. Normally, you can fade out the chat box area and still be able to see the most recent responses. I can’t get that anymore. So now I have to open the entire window to view all or just close it and get no notices about people talking other than if they’re on the same map and I see a bubble above them.
Just now, I was in LA looking for a grp and switched from overflow to my server (sea of sorrows). When I went to put in my LFG message, it ended up showing responses of other people. What’s even more odd is that these responses appear without the entire window popped, which is how it’s supposed to be and yet… when I pop the window to look at the list of messages… those other peeps that took my spot and no longer on the list? Nor is my message to be found anywhere.
So uhhh… what?
What an awesome dungeon! I’ve spent all night playing it and it was well worth the time. My team and I had loads of fun trying to figure it out, and some the fracs (like the GW1 reference) was fantastic.
Thank you so much for this awesome free content. I appreciate your effort and look forward to more.

The commander title is nothing more than a little emphasis on group organizing. The problem is how the title currently works. The system needs to be reworked. People are getting too jealous or elitist and therefor it’s causing conflict with community organizing.
The problem won’t be how it’s obtained, but instead how it works.
We need a system that’s similar to guilds. Except instead of having indefinite groups of people, we have organizers (commanders) who form groups that are meant to last for large scaled events and nothing more. This should include both PvE and WvW.
Community voting would only cause more segregation. There’s too much hate that goes around to expect small groups of friends to all vote accordingly. Heck, I can even see groups being organize strictly to deny a person a title out of sheer trolling behavior.
Again, obtaining the title isn’t the problem. It’s how it’s used that needs fixing. If you find a commander who isn’t on par to how everyone is playing, then why don’t you show a little leadership and help them? Work together in this so called “problem”.
If it’s anything we’re learning from these commander threads, it’s how biased and selfish we can be.
The entire gameplay aspect is subjective. The trick is how to get it working so that all players can enjoy it just the same.
For some of us, this aspect is not just about the rewards. It’s also about the way we immerse ourselves in this fantasy. Some of us enjoy the idea of being a hero who can drop a mob of nasty foes, even without loot, and that’s good enough. Yet with the current system, and how many people are treating it, there’s just no room for that aspect without wasting time in trying to find groups who are willing to share that experience.
For the record, I’m a PvE player. I use the title for meta events, which is very helpful for one’s that most people don’t gather for. Like at Mount Maelstrom for example, where even though it’s a big event that offers a nice chest, people just don’t gather for it like they do dragons.
Point being, the title should work for all aspects of the game that involve massive amounts of players all working to take on a goal, rather it’s capturing a fort or taking down a dragon.
The real problem here is how the title currently works, not how you obtain it. The system is too basic and needs to be refined to be more like guilds.
People should be able to press a button to open a list of commanders who are currently online. In this list, you’ll be able to see what the commanders are doing (rather it’s PvE or WvW). In addition, you’ll be able to join squads in this list, or at least wait till the commander approves on you joining. For more depth, the squads could have their own ranking system.
Now as for the argument against commanders who “don’t have the leadership skills”. That judgement is arbitrary and therefor is going to differ from person to person. So having some strict combat-related way of obtaining the title isn’t going to change a thing. There’s still going to be commanders that players won’t approve of, via because of their skills or not. The real solution to this issue is compromise. It’s up to everyone to work together, even if that means helping a commander learn what to do to “lead properly”.
For starters, I’ve been getting some pretty bad lag and disconnects ever since the update. Additionally, forming parties becomes dysfunctional. I can’t invite people because they’re in parties, when they’re actually not in a party. There are also times when I can’t whisper friends for being offline, when they’re actually online.
I just ran into a sound bug that never happened before. I had just finished fighting the Claw of Jormag. I used a waypoint to LA and then all sound cut off and I got this strange alarm type noise that would repeat over and over.
Server: Sea of Sorrows.
Lately it’s been difficult finding groups that actually want to run a full dungeon. Most of the time, groups are just skipping content or utilizing cheap tactics (such as stacking on each other to prevent damage). I’m aware that we should be reporting things like the stacking etc. but as for skipping content downright, isn’t there a way to prevent this?
I can’t ever seem to find groups that want to actually play out the dungeon in full, and it’s aggravating. It’s always the easy paths + skip and repeat for daily. Granted it saves time, but it also diminishes the value of tokens and loot. There has to be something you guys can do to break this conventional wisdom.
It’s even more frustrating because people are sticking to this mindset and now it’s even more difficult to get a group going for the harder and longer paths. If people can’t skip enough or if it isn’t short enough, then it’s not worth people’s time. . .what a terrible system for dungeons.
Commander's don't need to show their commander icon outside of WvWvW

Right from the beginning this thread read as nothing but some cranky WvW elitists trying to control a system that’s working just fine. I refrained from mentioning it, and I’m sorry, but Catisa’s reponse is making the case.
VanderBelt is right, just calm down. The title isn’t out of control and no one is taking advantage of anything. Having some blue icon over your character and displayed on everyone’s minimap doesn’t actually effect a kitten thing. This topic is blown out of proportion. Need I remind you, it’s just a video game.
Still, I can understand how strung-out some people can get. Just look at how much hate the Halloween puzzle received, and in the history of video games, that puzzle rates as some of the easier content one could play. So again, to compromise for those very few who can’t take looking at a blue icon – just implement the option to toggle it on and off. Voila. That’s all that really needs to be done.

Just give people the option to toggle the icon on their maps etc. It’s a win-win. There’s no reason to change anything else.
. . .and the bigotry in this thread is crazy
This is the terrible idea. It would remove the challenge aspect and therefor just make all lower lvl areas extraordinarily boring. I don’t know about others, but I personally love playing lesser maps (even though I’m maxed out) because I know that I still have a chance of biting the dust. That’s not taking into account that at the real beginning areas, I’m already way overpowered.

Well, if I don’t get to form squads and help in meta PvE events, then I expect a full refund.
Title says it all. What do you think? Polar bears were a thing in GW1 during Wintersday, so wouldn’t it be awesome to get a teddy bear styled polar bear backpack just like the Mad King diaries we got for Halloween?
/disagree
I personally purchased the title strictly to help others during meta and other difficult events in PvE. I’m a PvE player and that’s all I love doing. I don’t think I’ll ever play WvW aside from earning monthly, therefor I don’t find this thread’s argument to be very fair to others who also want to utilize squads in PvE.

Awhile back I made a thread in regards to giving people an option to toggle the icon on their maps. I have recently obtained the Commander title and still stick by that suggestion. Some people don’t care to see it, simply because it’s none of their concern.
I will say this though. After a few days of running around and doing events, I’ve found that it is incredibly handy to getting the help necessary for more difficult events. If it’s one thing people can struggle with in this game, it’s being in an area that has little to no activity and having to take on a champion all by yourself. I doubt Anet is going to change our ability to solo high-level events, as grouping and community is the foundation of the game.
My point is that everyone should be treating the icon as a marker for which one can possibly get help to complete something they otherwise can’t do. There’s no reason to feel as if the people who have it are supposed to be “special”. They’re just there to help. Although, I have seen my share of. . . . . strict individuals. . . . maybe an ignore list is in order?
Yes, please fix this.
Before a recent update, my character use to display a little hair for any helm that covered the scalp. I assume they changed this for clipping reasons (which I had none for the style hair I chose)… but nevertheless…
Please add hair for all helms that cover the scalp!
Ever since a recent update, my character no longer has any indication of hair under helms that cover the entire scalp. What happened? For example, when wearing the baseball cap or the cabalist (light armor) hood, I use to see hair under the helm… now I just go straight bald?
Why the change? Can’t you go back to the previous?
I’m assuming I’m not the only one who noticed this change.
Usually for events in GW1, the default music is changed to fit the atmosphere. I was wondering if you guys had plans to do the same for this event? So far I’m hearing nothing new or different, hence the question.
Could we get the ability to toggle that blue title on and off for all of the maps? It’s fine to have it over the player’s head, but when I’m in LA and I have like twenty of these blue things spammed over my screen, it’s rather ridiculous. I can only imagine it’s going to get worse over time. =/
This would be awesome. Not only would Anet make more money from selling items related to the mini-game, but it would also benefit the all around concept of bringing the environment alive. I think there’s a substantial effect with how people plug into the game versus going about their real lives. So to then establish this same effect in the game itself, that would only drive more emphasis on the beauty of the design.
Magic Find works as it should. You don’t like it, then don’t use it. Either way, you shouldn’t have the right to dictate what other players choose to do.
This game was sort of inspired by the idea that anyone could choose any kind of skills/gear etc. and still get a goal accomplished. So don’t go beckoning Anets efforts just because you got some ants in your pants.
By the way, you do have a choice to be more stringent about your gameplay style, but segregating people because they don’t follow suit does kinda defeat the purpose of the game.
Could we get more of a permanent effect from the personality traits? For starters, there are quite a few NPCs that allow you to repeat personality options, allowing you to completely change your character’s trait setup in mere seconds. So not allowing people the option to change personality (after talking to all of the NPCs that give it) would certainly make the whole thing feel more valuable.
Maybe give some consumables, weapons or armor (with effects etc.), and all based on a personality type.
DYE COLORS should look consistent VISUALLY across armor/items...

Like I said earlier, whilst such a design choice may be “realistic”, it’s not necessarily “fun”.
But I think realism is fun. So does my opinion then nullify yours?
All seriousness, the realistic aspect to the current system is what helps bring the GW universe alive. Unless you want those cartoon aspects, well, you know where to go. =P
Armor Clipping:
Female Human Mesmer
Armor set: Cabalist (I think is the official name)
1. First is around her armpit/shoulder, you’ll find some clipping between her skin color and the armor. This only appears while doing the swaying animation as seen in the screenshot.
2. On her back, the mantle piece cuts through the chest piece.
