Mesmer Damage in sPvP

Mesmers may have good bursts, however, getting that damage through is a whole other story.

It’s easy to dodge the bursts. Easy to kill the illusions before a burst. Easy to use boons to block or go invul before a burst.

In the long run, we’re not superb.

Some of the comments here are pretty arrogant.

The leaderboards are a very tiny fraction of the many options players have to set goals for themselves. It doesn’t need to be blown out of perspective. If you don’t like the system, then don’t indulge in it. You’re not being punished for choosing to ignore it. So there’s no reason to shun those who do.

SciFi & Tech related armor for all types.

I’d like to suggest some armor that has more of a scifi look, obviously Asuran tech. I was thinking maybe some style that gives a heavy armor feel to all the types. Throw in some dyeable lights that give a cool glow effect when in dark areas.

Either way, more Asura styles for all races would be cool.

Bauble baubles for finishers

I’ve already given up some gold and cash for gems so I could nab like 10 finishers. Problem is, it feels like a waste only because I use finishers way too often.

I’d love to stock up more but just can’t find the motivation to spend for gems. Further more, you allow people to trade BBs for box o’ fun but not finishers?

Any chance of letting us get finishers from Moto before the event is up?

What are mesmers bad against?

Blackmoon.6837

Rangers with traps and condition damage. They usually know when to dodge, leaving your illusions either bursting at nothing or hitting a trap and dying.

Pets are a huge pain to deal with. If you and the ranger are downed at relatively the same time, then you don’t stand a chance. The pet ends up healing for too much, so it doesn’t matter if you try to kill the pet first.

They are currently the one class I fear the most.

How to turn off titles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Blackmoon.6837

Blackmoon.6837

I have to agree with the people that don’t want them toggled/removed, and completely disagree with those that do want them toggled/removed.

Here’s my first counter against: “We shouldn’t have to completely remove/toggle names. We should be able to see names without title.”

-> A title is an extension of a character just as their name is. In fact, it’s part of the name just as a formal “Sir”, “Ma’am” or “Mr.” is . So, when someone like me comes running up as “Siphaed, Apprentice Toymaker” that’s who my character is based on what I’ve done in Tyria. It’s a defined part of the player. In essence, if you don’t want to see a title than you don’t really care about that player and shouldn’t care to see their name either.

If you’re playing on a low-res screen, this may be clutter…but that’s your problem. You shouldn’t be asking for the game to be changed to accommodate you. If you like the game so much, change yourself to accommodate the game (i.e. get a better screen with higher resolution and a bit better graphics card).

P.S. In world vs world, we (my guild) find it much easier to target people based on their title. We say stuff like “target the Slayer” and the only guy with a grey slayer title is easily targeted and hit, instead of “target the Norn” in the big pile of some 3-9 Norns there.

Good points. I’d add the fact that titles now have more value which in turn gives more reason to obtain them. It’s pretty obvious stuff. Ultimately, it’s giving players more goals to aim for – more reasons to play the game.

They need to stay as is. People will get over it.

Why is the tone and style of GW2 so "goofy"

The silly aspect is definitely overwhelming. It’s so intrusive that I have little to no concern for any of the characters in the game.

If the story is to have any emotional value, then more realism must be introduced into the story. This isn’t just about the serious nature of reality, but also the diversity – which we don’t see much of in the characters.

A good story will make you care. A better story will make you question your own mindset and truly test your emotions.

These threads and their rubbish.

Mesmers are pretty medicore right now. Bring some stuns, save your evades for shatters and take your time. You have to plant your skills carefully.

Burning does wonders. Not only can you see them when they go invisi, but it’s usually great pressure.

If your melee, then keep on top of them. Don’t let them have any distance.

Range is good too if you have support (like a pet or minions). Illusions can easily get stuck on your supports, letting you focus on the mes.

There’s so much you can do to make any mesmer eat the dirt. So please stop crying about all of the mechanics YOU can’t beat. Just spend more time using that brain of yours and practice.

I would like to suggest that new title system should remain. It gives value to titles, otherwise no one has any reason to care about them.

A simple compromise should be made instead of people completely removing them from view. Perhaps you could add a fade system which would have the titles appear and disappear when people mouse over a character without selecting them.

In any case, if this system was already implemented from release, then I highly doubt you’d have the amount of complaints you see now.

This is the way should’ve been.

I concur, however, this new mechanic wouldn’t take away from the improvements that can be made to the current combo system.

I think a lot of people play this game and go by not even noticing combos because it’s easy to ignore the effects or rewards of pulling one off. The other problem with combos is due to that simplicity. They’re easy to trigger, even in pvp.

My suggestion is part of developing the complexity.

Blackmoon.6837

Being based on hits/miss, there’s plenty of room for the warrior’s adrenaline to function without conflict. Maybe I’ll drop a warrior in pvp tonight and check it out.

That’s sort of the whole point though with the hit/miss aspect – the rarity of how often it’ll actually take place. It’s not a skill to be abused, but more a skill that’ll make people feel rewarded for their efforts in combat, regardless of pve or pvp. Not only would people feel like they truly accomplished a feat for successfully using a super, but the cool animations/effects/dialog etc. would make it fun.

PvP isn’t much of an issue, at least from my experience. I’m rank 30 right now, been playing pvp actively for the past month. To knock off a set of consecutive auto-attacks is pretty challenging. People are constantly on the move and evasion is crazy active, so chances are it would be even more rare to see a super in pvp than pve. If so, even more rewarding.

Adding more depth & fun to the combat system.

Blackmoon.6837

I had an crazy fun idea I thought I’d share. So let me attempt to organize this so it’s easier to read.

The Idea
Auto-attacks seem to be the most dry and boring aspect to the combat system. It’s the one skill(s) we see the most often and therefor it’s lends itself to be the most unappealing. So I thought up a new mechanic that could help make auto-attacking more tactical, which would emphasize on strategy, yet also it would be a hell of a lot more fun to play. In addition, this new mechanic wouldn’t actually take away from the current system.

  • Super Attacks! That’s right, what if we had a super attack we could build up and use as a final attack via the auto-attack skill slot?

How It Could Work
Here’s a general idea on how to implement it.

  • First of all, there would need to be a new F# skill button. This button would have a cool little animated effect which will display charges being built up. At a full charge, the icon would have a more prominent effect to let the player know it’s ready to use.
  • When you have a full charge and press the F# button, your #1 skill slot will then be replaced by your new super, which you then choose to use.

Depth
Sounds simple, but there’s a lot of depth to gain from this. This is the most important part and will explain why this system could not only work, but also amplify the combat system.

  • There would be a new and unique super per each auto-attack skill in the game.
  • Each super could have new animations & effects. For example, a Mesmer’s greatsword super will shoot out a massive beam for two or three seconds.
  • To add to animations, there would be a few seconds where the character would prepare their super. Taking the Mesmer again, he/she would start by having surges of that purple energy shoot through and around them all while they’re reacting to it etc.
  • There could be new dialog being said while the character preps for the super.
  • The variety of weapons and classes lets the devs have a lot of freedom with what kinds of supers could be made. The ideas are endless.

Balancing
Clearly the most problematic, however, it’s not much of an issue when you consider delays etc.

  • Charging the super attack will be based on your auto-attacks and only your auto-attacks.
  • You would need to have a set amount of consecutive hits in order to obtain a full charge for your super. If any of the auto-attacks miss, then the charges will be depleted and you have to start over.
  • Swapping weapons will deplete any charges you had set prior, obviously because each super is different and based on different weapon sets.
  • After a super attack has been used, there will then be a cooldown of something like 10s+.
  • When you obtain a full charge, you will have 30-seconds to press the F# button and put the super into your #1 skill slot.
  • When the super is in the skill slot, you then have 3-seconds to use it or else it’s gone and then cooldown takes place.
  • There will be plenty of time for players to respond to supers by noticing the cool new animations that characters have as they “prepare” their super.
  • Supers won’t have any special conditions that prevent players from dodging, so strategy becomes valuable.
  • Supers can’t be stopped once a player activates one. You have to play out the full attack, even if you missed and thus are left at a disadvantaged. More strategy!

Counterattacks? More Depth? Score!
To open up the box, what if counterattacks were also apart of these new supers?

  • Counterattacks would work by using the charge you have saved for your super. So let’s say we have two enemies that both have their supers charged and ready to use. Enemy A is about to use their super on Enemy B. Once Enemy B is within range of Enemy A’s super, their super icon will change for a brief moment, allowing Enemy B to add a counterattack into their #1 skill slot instead of their super.
  • Doing this will waste your charges and still have a cooldown, regardless if you succeeded or not.
  • The counterattack will not only block the super being used, but also redirect a lesser amount of damage back at the player.

Obviously Changes
The term ‘super’ can easily be changed to something with more of a Guild Wars feeling. The same goes for ‘counterattack’ or ‘charges’. Yada yada.

So, what are your thoughts? Any ways to expand on my idea?

There are some important factors that need to be mentioned in these specific topics.

First, you must remember that gold can be used to obtain gems. This system is a wonderful benefit for us, however, it’s trouble for Anet. Which brings me to my next point: Anet needs to make money.

If all of the skins were direct sales and were not limited time offers, then Anet wouldn’t make anything worth the effort and then the game goes downhill from there.

So the real solution is to remove the ability to transfer gold for gems. Otherwise, you guys shouldn’t be complaining.

Monday night I decided to form a pug for cof path 1 & 2. I specifically said ‘no skipping’ and had it typed in all caps as well as it mentioned before the path numbers in hopes people would read it.

The group is formed and then I mention it in chat, making sure people understand.

Finally we kill the first champ in path 1 and I ask kindly as a reminder: ‘please do the event’. Not a single response from anyone. The door opens and the group runs past the spawns and immediately I felt my blood beginning to boil. Being the instance owner, there was little concern for me dropping out. Alas, fearing I’d be reproted, the path went on.

I did drop the group after everyone got their reward. That was it for the night though. I was too heated to do p2, even with a proper group

Unfortunately, here I will have to repeat quite a bit of the thread here to explain this.
1. Charr cubs do not look remotely like her. They are downscaled adults. They have normal sized eyes.
2. She is obviously not a child charr, she is “adolescent”. Adolecent big cats nor charr do not have such large eyes.
3. Comparing her to all other charr, she is completely mutant-like in eye to face ratio. “Realistically” she is a charr, and needs their anatomy, not giant doll eyes. I highly doubt this is the result of an expression, because not a single npc nor player character in this game makes facial expressions beyond scripted emotes, which it is obvious in this shot that its not, she is in the “walking with weapon drawn” animation. This entire thread is about Rox’s terrifying “thousand yard” staring eyes and what can be done to fix it.

Your assessments are based on what’s already in the game. Again, there’s a massive spectrum to be had. With this specific character they’re attempting to unlock that spectrum and yet you deny them by suggesting that what’s in game is final?

I’m not understanding your inability to think open-mindedly about the possibilities of how Anet could enhance their game’s diversity, without actually challenging their own style, aesthetics and core elements. You’re simply shutting them down, for arbitrary reasons, by suggesting that they can’t widen their perspectives of their fictional universe.

“They look too big and creep me out”. Good for you.

I disagree, I believe that there is quite a bit of constructive criticism in this thread, particularly with what Greyfur did by showing how she would look with properly scaled eyes. What sort of criteria are you holding that makes this thread irrelevant, other then the fact you disagree?

Greyfur’s simple photo manipulation is hardly constructive. There are numerous factors you have to consider before simply downsizing the eyes.

For example, what is the proper anatomy? Do you really believe that the creators of this creature don’t understand what they’re doing? You think we do? Realistically, I’d say it’s entirely possible for a creature of that size and spec to be born with eyes that size. Why deny the possibility?

What about the fact that we have yet to actually meet this character. This one picture has yet to prove anything over the wide range of expressions she has in store. Perhaps this shot was taken while the character was surprised or giving off an expression that had her eyes wide for a moment.

I hope Anet is ignoring this negative feedback, otherwise their dignity is going down the drain.

The eyes look fine. Sure they come off as an exaggeration of what’s already in the game, but that’s part of building strong diversity in characters. The fact that it’s the eyes that people are worried about instead of say her tail; is a testament to how some people need some psychological evaluation.

Patheitc thread needs some deleting.

Ah yes, the pseudo-racism thread. I knew this was coming. . .

On a serious note. I think diversity is important in this game. We definitely need more of it. Right now everything tends to look and feel the same, from character design to the general atmosphere. You just don’t get any sense that the supposed diversity in Tyria actually carries any weight. It’s melds too well together to be appealing enough.

That’s probably why some people can’t get into the lore of it. Not enough depth to either side of the spectrum. It’s like a giant color wheel with a grey core that takes up 50% of the wheel. =P

I’ll say it again, balance discussion doesn’t bring players to the game or keep players in.

Yes, yes it does. Forcing players to commit to meta builds is a tragedy to all competitive games. On the other hand, giving players the opportunity to create something for themselves in all aspects serves as a foundation for making any game great.

The one thing everyone can agree on is that customization is a major influence in what makes games enjoyable. Meta game defeats the purpose of customization by excluding play styles from the equal chance at winning; regardless of player skill.

Balance is key to the future of this game and it should be a priority.

On the subject of balance, we can look at how bunker builds seem to be current meta. In an ironic way, this justifies why Anet needs to implement new game modes other than conquest.

Max Distance is only going to work for your auto attacking. If you really want to utilize your max DPS, then you shouldn’t be standing still on auto.

Try to focus on a mixture of applying vulnerability and getting might stacks. Also consider boon duration buffs to hold your might for as long as possible.

Typically I would dodge in (1 illusion up), use GS skill #2 and depending how close you are, that should bounce off of you and give you stacks. Finally, dodge out for your third illusion and voila; BOOM!

Also look into precision & critical damage instead of power.

The Gameplay is not Endogenous

Blackmoon.6837

My Opinion:

1. The combat is excellent. I love that it’s more action-oriented, however, skills do get tedious over time. Giving us more depth via new trait lines, and a secondary skill set for the weapons already in game, would be worth the effort to implement it.

2. The characters, the story and your supposed personality are all very bland. The artistic approach was an extraordinary success. The story and emotion between characters is a failure. So much needs to be done to make me want to care about the people living in Tyria. I’d look at games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect for an idea on how to bring GW2 some more life besides art.

3. The feeling is lacking realism. It’s important for realism to be in any story, it’s what helps us define and establish a connection so we can relate to and immerse ourselves into the story.

In GW2 there’s this underlining tone of heroism which is felt through every aspect of the game. From Jeremy’s score down to the very small risen chicken in Orr. It’s this tone that destroys any shred of realism. Reality carries extraordinary weight with it’s diverse emotions. Just take the feelings between life and death, metaphorically or literal, it’s chaotic how potent those emotions are. None of that is felt in GW2.

1.) what made you choose and stay on the server you’re on?(guilds and friends aren’t a valid reason since transfers were free for four months)
2.) what will it take for the wvw players to get you into wvw?
3.) wvw benefits your dungeon runs, do you not agree that helping us get the buffs you benefit from is the right thing to do?
4.)is it the repair bill that scares you out?(i know pve players with upwards of 200g, so the fact that they’re scared of a 10s repair bill is confusing)
5.) why would a risen priestess of milandru be impressed with your Sunrise?

1. Choosing a server in the first place seemed irrelevant to my interests. The only purpose I found was that Anet needed a way to split traffic. That’s understandable, but otherwise, I don’t care. As long as there are people around to play with.

2. Nothing. The way I see it; WvW is an overrated exaggeration of egomaniacal behavior. The place came off as a playground for people to extend their delusional and disrespectful attitude towards friendly competitive gameplay. It’s like all of the bad players who couldn’t take it in sPvP just decided to go to WvW. Think about it; WvW is incredibly unbalanced (from buffs to armor differences).

I’m actually stunned by all of the WvW videos on the webz; how astonishing everyone always appears to be. Their skills to cherry-pick fights where they were able to slaughter the poor group of mastered armor folk trying to map the place. Surely that’s evidence that something’s wrong in WvW.

My point was that these overly-proportioned opinions shouldn’t be as bold as to suggest that Arena Net needs to change their current vision of how they want Guild Wars 2 to play out.

For the record, the best constructive critique would incorporate how the artist can go about improvement WITHOUT corrupting their vision – that’s what these exacerbated ‘suggestions’ always fail on.

The new Ascalon Catacombs is amazing. It’s more challenging, felt rewarding for the time spent and I’m looking forward to these updates on the rest of the dungeons, especially HotW.

A well deserved infraction.

The more these threads appear, the more disturbing it becomes. Anet is a group of people just like you and me. They play the same games we play (including the obvious affinity for guild wars 2). Point being is they’re bound to pick up on some of the issues without our opinions. The problem, of course, is that a lot of our ‘suggested issues’ are irate, arrogant and thus stupid. Anet can’t actually cater to them without sacrificing their own efforts or belittling other players.

Learn to rationalize better and have a little more respect. Arena Net is doing a fantastic job on their side…

now it’s your turn.

Foostivoo The Merry has this strange mechanical sound (much like a golem mini) whenever it moves.

I’m getting this error pretty frequently now. It started at the last boss in CoF (path 1).

I can get disconnected every 30s or less, its unplayable

I’m getting some mad disconnection relevant to this. It started as longer intervals, now they’re shorter and I can’t even get the time to explain to my guild what’s going on.

Promoting MF and GF

Here’s something interesting to think about. Pull back and try to view this issue from a more basic sense. Isn’t Magic Find actually helping by proving to be a testament on how us (the community) is actually treating the game?

The solution is the proof to my point. All it takes is for people to start coordinating more and compromising a little so everyone can achieve their goal. Yet instead of compromising, it’s arrogance and greed.

The problem was never magic find, skipping content etc. The problem was and is… us. It’s a social game. If people were more friendly, open-minded and rational, then none of these topics would exist. Everyone would be in game right now working on establishing the warmhearted social interaction that is Guild Wars 2.

That’s probably what Anet had thought when they decided to add MF; the community will be friendly about it and work together to solve any disagreements.

Well you guys certainly proved them wrong.

Magic Find, how high do you go?

I can get up to around 120% while still being super effective stat-wise.

I run the ‘Chocolate Omnomberry Cream’ for 40% (additionally the 20% boon duration works wonders for might stacks). Then there’s the two ascended rings I some times swap for ’Snaff’s Gyre’ & ’ Yakkington’s Ring’, that’s 20%. My guild keeps the MF buff up everyday, so there’s 10%.

The remaining 50% is if I pop a ‘Magic Find Booster’. I don’t get very many of those, so I’ll usually save them for areas that I know give good loot (like Ascolan/Dredge in Fractals).

Ultimately, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in the rares I get. The only way I’ve been able to notice this is though my little ocd behavior I got going in my bank. I’ll save 30 slots specifically for rare/exotics I want to salvage for ectos. I won’t salvage anything until those 30 slots are full. Point being is that I’ve noticed that with MF, those 30 slots become full really quickly over a few days time versus not having MF (where it would take weeks to fill it).

Because its not worth the effort and time. This game is horrible when it comes to rewards outside of dungeons. . .

There’s your problem. Like many others around, you’re stuck in this mindset of “rewards rewards, gimme rewards”.

That’s your fault.
