I don’t think this alliance proposition will solve anything. I have the feeling the end result will be a situation similar to what we have now.
The best WvW guilds will form a few alliances among themselves. These stronger alliances will be able to attract/recruit the best players.
In the end, you’ll have a few very strong alliances with the best players and the best organisation, that will be able to crush the other alliances with no problems; the same way you currently have a few strong servers that are able to crush all the others easily.
The saddest part is that no ArenaNet officials consider this topic important enough to answer the players’ concerns.
We’ve altered the scepter a bit, pushing it more toward the condition role we would like it to have.
This change will make playing scepter in PvE even less attractive.
a rework of the Mimic skill, which will now copy all boons on your target to yourself
Mimic is exactly one of these skill I was writing about that have practically no uses at all in PvE.
As for the other changes announced, there is not enough details to say if it will be good or not for PvE play.
Some of the troubles with mesmers are that many skills are totally useless in PvE.
Any warrior can kill a mob 2 or 3 times faster than any mesmer, and can chain kill mobs way faster, while a mesmer have to wait for his big damage skills to recharge….
What they need to do is to split the pvp/pve skills and adjust them accordingly, like they did for GW1. Conditions can be quite useful in PvP, but are totally useless in PvE.
Hurry up doing your achievement in there. In a couple of days the pavilion will be deserted.
Can you please modify the timing on some the bosses?
The timing is excellent for Pacific Coast players, and we can clearly see you only thought about them in your planning.
For players on the Atlantic Coast some times are totally ridiculous. The Wurm for example happens at : 23.00 (too late for most people), 8.30 and 14:00 (too early for most players). And it’s not much better for players on the European side either.
And if we aren’t part of a big guild (many of us dislikes large guilds), then there is no way we can start it on our own.
Good idea, bad implementation (sadly, something we frequently see happening from Anet….)
No matter what they devise next, it will always be a failure.
There is a too serious imbalance between servers, and nothing they can do will fix it.
The league system would work better if there was a hundred servers to compete between. With so few servers, the imbalance is too heavy even between servers close to one an other in the rankings.
Remember the GvG ladder in GW1? That worked well because you had hundreds of guilds to compete against, so there was almost always a guild close to your own strength to fight against. That kind of balance does not exists in GW2 WvW.
The guild I am in in NSP have maybe 30 to 40 mostly casual WvW players.
From what I read on our forums, many will not even bother to go to WvW if the server is in silver league
I bet it’s the same for most other casual WvW players out there.
Hoping this is fixed before reset.. ’cause I need it for the pack before Tuesday. ;-;
It’s Sunday, so it’s unlikely it will be fixed today.
Tried to craft 2 keys, and no achievement for me either.
As long as they won’t find a way to reduce the difference in strength and coverage between servers, nothing they will try to implement will work.
The only time we had a semblance of balance was when they made the servers of the same tier fight one another. But then, Anet decided they wanted to add diversity in the matchups, and since then, we saw mostly unbalanced matches.
The trouble is that the difference of powers between 7 and 15, and 16 and 24 is still much too great to have interesting matchups.
4 leagues of 6 would still be much better.
A week or two of attempting to gather and coordinate 100+ players? Maybe. A month? Doubtful. I cannot see anyone bothering with Tequatl by Christmas. Nothing was learned by the failings in Scarlet’s Invasions leading to a far larger failure.
I give it two weeks at most before it goes the same way as the karka Queen event.
Anet did a pretty darn good job in GW1 with balance, so it baffles me beyond belief what they’ve been doing to this game.
Between the release of GW1 and GW2, some big names from Anet left the company.
Something interesting to note:
- The difference between rank 1 EU (SFR r1966) and rank 12 EU (Gandara r1646) is 320 rating points.
- The difference between rank 1 US (BG r2153) and rank 12 US (BP r1510) is 643 rating points. Now, it seems like the more even servers are the less leagues you would want to create because you could have competitive matches within a larger pool. But Anet says no, that’s silly, we will give the more even servers in EU 3 leagues, and the more disparate servers in the US 2 leagues.
There are 27 servers in EU zone, and you can only divide them in 2 ways : either 3 leagues of 9, or 9 leagues of 3.
Or one league of 27 ^^’ .
But seriously, the team does watch this thread and does keep the feedback. And we also compile particularly good constructive feedback for the team, so they don’t miss it.
Problem is you compile good feedback but don’t make use of it.
You still prefer to whack you head on the wall you’ve hit a long time ago.
You still think skill is important in WvW. Hundred of players told you that population and coverage are the two main factors that decide the result of a WvW match, that skill only matters if the servers are of equal strength. For nearly a year you completely ignored that fact, and you made it even worst by creating those silly leagues. The result is that even more people are moving from the lowest ranked servers to the highest ones in the hope to get the rewards.

The other night we were fighting hard for a keep from FC, all the while there were groups doing a temple and farming champions in frostforge. A lot of people play this game because they like the gold and item loot. You can do that decently in WvW but not nearly as well as farming champs.
There are three type of players in most games like GW2 :
- PvEr : that’ the type of game they like, and they will avoid PvP as much as they can
- PvPer : that’ the type of game they like, and they will avoid PvE as much as they can
- PvPvEr : they like both type of games in some or equal proportions, and they will move from on type to the other as they want.
Nothing you can do or say will make your PvEr players interested in PvP.
They are looking to curb this type of fair-weather behavior as well. If you don’t participate much for the week, you don’t get any reward. Maybe this will help to harden some of the more achievement and reward driven fair-weather players.
Unless you are in the top tier server of a league, there are no ways for you to get rewards, so it will certainly not be an incentive for a player like me.
I’ll get more “rewards” by playing PvE instead of wasting my time in a WvW matchup without any chances to win something. Not that I care that much about the WvW rewards that were announced anyway. I would forfeit any rewards for more balanced matches were any server actually have a chance to win.
(edited by Blanche Neige.7241)
This league system will ensure that many occasional WvW players like myself will not go into battle if the matchups are severely unbalanced.
Something that will happens a lot, since the server I am on is already having a hard time facing servers 1 or 2 places above us.
If we get thrown into the Gold League and get our butts handed to us, it’s fine.. we’ll still come out and fight. We’ll also take the opportunity to learn from fighting the much higher tiers.
What is there left to learn in WvW?
The only thing you can learn is this : Server with higher population and wider coverage wins.
Period.
I’d recommend them making a loot bag that can only drop from player kills that randomly gives some of the items you need for ascended gear
Forcing PvE players into a style of play they dislike is a bad idea.
The reverse is also true. PvP players should not be forced to do PvE either.
There’s a problem with having to defend a keep 3 times. What if your server is worse than the other two and the only keeps you actually have is on your bl in the first 5 minutes after reset?
If that happens, I doubt your server would be eligible for any wvw league prizes anyway.
Looks like he didn’t change his mind, so we are really going to see BG, SOR, and JQ versus Emry Bay and Crystal Desert. I have no idea what Anet is thinking.
Well, we successfully demolished every statement Devon made about this change so far.
You’ll notice he did not dared reply again here for 5 days now.
I told you Anet would not change their mind about this. Doing so would be to admit they are wrong, and that’s something Anet will never do.
The question is, does the server that wins the silver league move up to the gold league for the next season? That would make mass transferring to the top of the lower league pointless, unless you’re willing to constantly transfer to whichever server becomes the new top dog.
If #13 move to gold league after they win, people will simply avoid to move to #13 and will move to #1-2-3 instead.
And what if #12 is still stronger than #13 at the end of the season? It means that #12 would move to the lower league and have an even easier win than the previous #13…
It’s a bit weird to know that servers that are much better than others (7-8-9 in top league for example) will get no rewards than others who are much weaker (13 in lower league).
You can be sure that players who can move to either 1-2-3 or 13-14-15 servers will move.
Maybe it’s the way Anet found to empty a few servers so they can close/merge a few of them?
I guess league means different match up every weeks until season ends in order to meet every other servers and get a ranking based on every scoring, am I right??? If so it’s good system.
It’s the same system that many professional sport leagues have, and yes it is a good one.
But it,s good only if you have control mechanisms to try to make the various teams more or less equal in strength. For example, when it’s time to recruit new players, the teams who finished at the bottom of the league generally have the choice of the first picks, so they have a chance to get better by picking up the best new players. There is also a limit on the amount of money a team can spend in salary each year, and a limit to the number of players a team can have on the playing field in a game.
Here there is absolutely no control on how a server can become stronger. Like someone said before, it’s like having a pro sport league where any player can choose to move to the team of his choice by paying a small fee. This ensure that the strong server gets even stronger than they are now, and those lingering at the bottom are sure to stay at the bottom.
WvWvW is a game of pure population and coverage
I’m sure everyone at Anet, Devon included, are perfectly aware of that.
But they will never admit it, because it would also means they admit that WvWvW as it is right now is a failure.
It’s a bit absurd to know that the servers that will finish at positions 10,11, 12 will stand no chances to win anything, while those who will finish at position 13,14,15 will stand a good chance of winning something.
Some servers will be punished for being better than those who finished below them.
@Devon : I dare you to transfert your account to Anvil Rock server for the incoming first season
The idea here is to look at recent WvW ratings and match up worlds in similar levels,
Problem is there is little similarity in levels between servers.
Each league will end up like this :
1 or 2 servers that will always finish at the top
1 or 2 servers that will always finish at the bottom
and the rest that will always finish between those two extremes.
As long as there will be no mechanisms to even up the strengths between servers, this idea of creating leagues will not works.
I’m wondering if the Anet peoples in charge of WvW are even taking a look at how that part of the game is going on, sometimes….
any overflow that opens up 10 minutes after the invasion begins will not have the event active.
And how can we know if the overflow we are in opened 10 mins after the invasion begins?
if I undestand well, we have to sit there waiting one hour for the event to begin?
if so, I must say it’s the most failed things you devised so far. You seriously need to rework how this event works
You could fix Mesmer portals through jumping puzzles by making the chest only spawn for people who have passed through specific checkpoints along the JP route, instead of just one checkpoint at the end.
Do that and you might as well delete completely the mesmer portal skill.
@Colin : as long as you will not fix your rotten camera system in JP, they will never be fun to do.
JP are not that bad.
What sucks is the rotten camera the game have.
I wish Anet would hire some competent programmers that know how to make tranparencies, so we would not have a rock or a leaf to block or field of view.
I’m a PvE only player, and I quite enjoy the content of the chest so far. Even some of the PvP rewards.
The badge of honor are welcomed. No more need to go PvP in WVWVW to make an legendary weapon is good news. I had gave up on making a legendary because of that. Now that this part is out of the way, Anet just increaded the time I’ll stay ingame by many months.
The rest of the PvP stuff I get, like the wartoys plans, I put into the guild bank for my guildmates who do WVWVW. The PvP stuff skins go into PvP storage.
As for PvE skins, there are plenty of them already. (No idea if there are more for pvp since I don’t care for that part of the game)
All in all, I think Anet made a very good move with the freebies in those chest. There is something for everyone.
There’s already 6 or 7 topic about this same subject….
Anet know about that.
We explained to them on these forums how it happens a few days ago.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Broken-holograms
They still have not provided a fix for it.
(edited by Blanche Neige.7241)
The bug is explained here : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Broken-holograms
If they read their forums, they are aware of it since a few days now.
You can learn why many holos are inactives here :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Broken-holograms
How to bug an holo projector. I tested it a few times and I was able to repeat it every times, so it’s not a random bug. Please don’t do this yourself. I’m posting it so the devs can correct it.
1 – Find an inactive holo and stand in the middle of it.
2 – As soon as the aeterblades appears, start attacking. You should be able to hit the veteran.
3 – Once the aeterblade veteran is dead, the holo is now bugged and will keep its active graphic but it will be impossible to activate it.
Every one of the veterans I’ve seen has been invulnerable. How did you manage to kill it?
Like I said, if you manage to kill it, it will bug the holo.
I prefer not to say, otherwise some morons will go and bug all the holos out there…
Edit : On second thought, I may as well post it. Devs will see it and bright players will know what not to do in order to not bug them.
(edited by Blanche Neige.7241)
They can be killed, but if you do, it bug the holo and it will stay up, but will not activable again.
They can be killed.
But if you do so, it bugs the holo and it will stay activated and it will not be useable again.
I accidentally bugged two of those holo projectors this morning. (Which is why I came on the forum to report the bug)
It will happens if you kill the aetherblade veteran that pop up in the middle of the projector before it disappear.
(edited by Blanche Neige.7241)
Another badly implemented event. Why should I be surprised?
After the food in the Dragon ball arena fiasco, after the Moa race fiasco, the fireworks fiasco.
What will be your next failure?
If you can, play at time where there are fewer people online.
Early this morning, I was able to complete my achievement easily in a low level zone, Almost no one was in there beside me, and I was able to run from one holo to another other and get them.
Probably.
Myself, I stopped chasing holos when I completed the achievement to give the chance to others to complete it.
The drop rate of chests is quite good on regular mobs.
I’ll activate an holo if I stumble upon one with no one around it.
On this page : https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-guide-to-dragon-bash/
We can read :
“Zhaitaffy will rain from bashed dragon piñatas and will grant sugar rush.”
Where is the promised rain? ONE zhaitaffy falling from a pinata is hardly what I would call a “rain”.
Sooo… Moa race disabled because of an exploit, and now this… 2 major bugs in two major addition to the Dragon Bash event.
Suggestion : Hire some peoples to test your stuff before release.
Agreed. A public test server would help a lot.
The current testers are quite inefficient in finding bugs and exploits.
You would at least expect they checked if it was possible for someone to affect the moas in any ways.
(edited by Blanche Neige.7241)
The real problem is not with the matchup system, it’s with the number of servers.
With so few servers to match against one another, you either end up facing always the same ones, or you end up with an extremely uneven match.
With a hundred servers or more, you would see both variety in the enemy you are facing and much more balanced fights. But I don’t see this game with 100 servers ever, so no matter what they decide to do, there will always be either imbalance or immobility.
As it is , their whole WvWvW is a failure.
