I thought this was going to be about the exploit reported in CD /t chat yesterday of a Mesmer somehow getting into t3 towers and porting their zerg in to cap it.
shame shame shame
It also serves as a great way to bring victims to a specific part of the map so you can farm them as they try to get their dailies. ::thumbsup::
:D
The “little guy” is probably getting the outmanned pip bonus way more than the “big guy”, fwiw. Maybe that’s reward enough?
The majority of these “reward debates” are always rooted in two mentalities:
1. Instant Gratification
2. Entitlement
If any argument is rooted in either of those 2 (usually both), it’s not worth considering imo. This is all much ado about nothing.
For goodness sakes, will everyone stop worrying about pips!
There is NO problem!
The fact that “everyone” as you put it, is complaining suggests that there is a problem.
Regardless this isn’t just about the pips, it’s about getting killed in outnumbered fights without receiving benefit from the outnumbered buff.
I know you’re just quoting a previous post but this site is definitely not an accurate representation of the WvW playerbase. Definitely the vocal minority. It’s been my experience in-game that the majority of the players find the pip reward system perfectly acceptable.
Also being outnumbered already gives you the advantage of +50% increase in participation, +20% magic find, and +25% wXP. Also no armor repairs and your deaths don’t contribute to war score.
To quote Storm Valkyrie, THERE IS NO PROBLEM.
Only changes I would make:
1. Decrease the pip reward for the outmanned buff from 5 to 3.
2. Increase the reward for Commanding from 1 to 3, but require 10 in squad.
Disclaimer:
I’m silver rank, not a Commander, ok with long-term rewards (IMHO, a legendary isn’t an instant-gratification kind of thing), and live a full and healthy life outside of GW2 and am ok with it taking a little longer to earn rewards because of it.
I mean, if the only people this affects negatively are people trying to build themselves a guild hall solo, then nice going Anet. Seems like a positive change.
Lots of people gravitate towards like-minded individuals. PvE’ers will primarily attract other PvE’ers, WvW’ers primarily WvW’ers, etc.
Seems like you just delight in the misery of others tbh. If people have lofty goals, whether it’s trying for a legendary backpiece, making Twilight, building the perfect 5 man pvp team, or solo-building a guild hall to support their server in WvW, I would encourage and not disparage.
They should force both teams to stand on opposing pedestals 5 against 5 and then make them /bow.
Then the screen fades out to black…
I’m pretty disappointed in this change as well.
But first, I want to make a couple of things absolutely clear:
1. I do not cash in the potions for reward track progress
2. I do not EVER want to play the sPvP game mode (despite being a full time WvW’er and perfectly happy with all sizes of battles that the game mode offers from 1v1’s to 60v60’s)
3. All of my dailies are earned in WvW pretty much a few minutes after they become vailable. I never used the PvP dailies as a replacement.
Now with that being said, I am very much interested in building my guild hall. BUT in order to get some of the PvE upgrades, I’m now forced to do sPvP. These upgrades are the Guild Waypoint discounts (requiring a total of 350 PvP Reward Potions) as well as the reward boost enhancement which affects the % of all the other non-pvp enhancements which requires 20 more PvP Reward Potions.
If I want to max my guild hall at any point, I’ll need another 350 of them for all the arena-related upgrades in order to earn the gXP that each upgrade applies.
The daily rooms were a way for me to slowly chip away at my potion needs for my guild hall upgrades WITHOUT earning any additional reward track progress, skins, or whatever other nifty rewards that pvp players earn.
Do people still “sell” the potions? What’s the going rate?
I am a 100% supporter of voice communication in games where player cooperation is key, such as in GW2 WvW. I can imagine the hilarity that would ensue if a football team never talked to each other during a game, or if a LoL team couldn’t hear call outs, or if you’re office staff never talked with each other to land that big client.
I don’t use a mic so I don’t talk but it is a huge help to hear what the Commander is saying. It’s amazingly obvious how successful a team is that is in TS versus one that isn’t.
If you find another TS user to be abrasive or distracting, mute them and you never have to listen to them again. If someone is being hateful, you are well within your right to ask them to stop (hey just like real life!) and I would even encourage you to bring issues to the TS Admins and they can permanently ban someone who is harassing other players or being hateful. Most (maybe all?) of the TS Admins I know would do that.
Good luck!
Question and a serious one. What do you do about the hearing impaired? I having hearing difficulties for one (not deaf) but really hard to follow in TS or what have you. Generally I follow in game chat and pin…
No reasonable person could expect someone to drive down the road when they are blind (just as an example). If I were in your shoes, I would have to come to terms with the fact that I might not be welcomed in a Commander’s squad because of lack of TS participation and would either have to tag along solo (which I do currently on occasion) or perhaps in a party running adjacent to the squad. Or just find another tag to follow. I main a thief so I have already come to terms with not being welcomed in certain company. haha
On a slight side note, is there some sort of TeamSpeak plug-in that would allow “voice to text” capabilities? I think it would be neat if you could select a user and a plug-in could translate what that specific user was saying over voice coms. The intent of user-selection would filter out all the other extraneous noise from the other people in the channel.

…The pips for ranks are way too high and reward blob servers and EOTM heroes whilst leaving those who had harder battles, or played on quieter servers, or scouted, or played support rather than spamming 1 mindlessly at the front of the zerg, and less wexp and average ranks (say 2000-4000 ranks) getting less than half the reward per tick: 4 pips per tick compared to 10.
Kinda makes me wish I had followed the bandwagonning guilds and played guard so I could get rewarded for it.
I spend a LOT of time scouting and doing callouts on my thief (my main). I sort of regret it now and am actively considering changing my playstyle. It’s proven primarily fruitless as scouting is nearly a zero-recognition activity which is now compounded with a nearly zero reward/incentive to continue doing it.
It also seems like participation burns way faster post-patch (maybe my imagination?) which means I can’t afford to be doing “nothing” for very long, especially since nearly all the commanders on my server seem resistant to adding scouts to the participation queue in their squads.
Time to embrace the zerg I guess.
I think it would be a great addition to be able to “cash out” your participation.
Previously when I was done my playing session, I would afk in wvw and go eat dinner, get ready for bed, etc. knowing full well that I would eventually be DC’d. The point was to continue to let my participation bleed down and possibly get another 1 or 2 rewards. It wasn’t a big deal because there were no queues. Now that we have massive queues (maybe temporarily maybe not) I don’t feel comfortable continuing this trend.
The “cash out” button would immediately deplete your participation to zero and give any rewards that you would have earned over the time it would have naturally depleted.
I hope that makes sense.
Do the races when another guild is also completing them. When they cross the finish line, it counts for yours too even if they’re not in your guild. For example, if it’s the guild race that requires 15 to complete in 11 minutes (hard I think?), I pop my guild mission when there is already a large group doing it. As long as I can complete it 1 time, and they have the additional 14, it counts as a win for my guild too.
Really?
Yes. I can get credit for my personal guild by doing it once and then speaking to the NPC at the end once it has hit 15/15.
@OriOri > Yeap! Just did it again last night for the Hard (15 in 11mins I think) guild mission race (the wolf one). There is no way I would have been able to complete this on my own. Once they started running the mission, I activated my guild mission and proceeded to run along side them. I think the rest of the map also noticed that there was a commander tag at the start of the race and people swarmed in from everywhere. I also saw lots of singles and duo’s there doing the same thing I was. It was a pretty awesome team effort. Once the mission box at the top right of the main screen said 15 people had completed it, I turned in the mission and received full credit.
On a slight side note, thanks again RDs and all the rest of the people that joined in to complete the mission. <3

I would also be down to help. Just send me a message in game. I’m usually on in the afternoon after about 3ish pm eastern and sometimes at night.
Crystal Desert had BG last week. Wasn’t too bad actually.
I think the Hall of Monuments (Heritage?) heavy shoulders on a sylvari male were a particularly egregious offender last time I previewed.
Make GoB and GoE sellable. Problem solved.
Also, there is PLENTY of PvE in WvW. It’s possible to never kill, or be killed by, another player and still easily get your GoB.
Considering the amount of outrage that happens when an Anet tag claims a keep, I can imagine that the whole planet would spontaneously stop spinning and all of us be flung out into space if an Anet server where to ever win a matchup.
I finally decided to go ahead and claim a guild hall for personal use, mostly for the WvW buffs and enhancements. I used the LFG tool to get a party together and 4 awesome people joined and helped me claim it. Favor hasn’t been an issue because there are a few guild missions that I can accomplish on my own, which other people have mentioned above. I had already hoarded a ton of materials so that’s been a huge help for me so far.
I think I’m around guild rank 10 now and I have almost everything in the guild bank maxed out so as my aetherium slooooooowly builds up I can keep upgrading everything.
My biggest challenge will be PvP potions since I don’t play that game mode, but I’m aware of the daily rooms and I’ve heard that you can also “buy” PvP potions from people by adding them to the guild, having them donate the potions, and then paying them.
My only complaint has been the size of the guild halls. I have Lost Precipice, which seems really awesome, especially for very large guilds (make your own house, etc.), but I would love a small keep, or village, or some other small hall where everything was just more densely packed. Same buffs and difficulty to upgrade, just physically smaller.
Love how the only people complaining are the ones rhat cant fight a ghost theif. So when is anet taking away gyro that finishes people for engi? Or taking away that deadly gravedigger for necros? Or taking away stubs for days on warrior? Just curious. They nerf one class because people whined like little kids not being able to kill the ghost theifs. Y not nerf other classes as well and make it a fair line-up?
Seems to me the only ones complaining are the terribad players that were leaning on the ghost thief crutch.
+10 this…this guy gets it
No he doesn’t. I don’t get why they got hit with the nerf bat as much as they did. I agree with Saberz. I played with a ghost thief enough to know that it was a novelty build at best that should not be able to kill a competent player with any regularity. But for some reason, ghost-thief-bait players come out in droves on the anet forums.
I wonder if all the people that cried wolf can now go find an outfit that sorta maybe almost kinda shows a shadowy outline of a nipple so we can find another purpose for more internet outrage now that ghost thief is “fixed”.
There is no point to it cos it means nothing……are you saying that people do this because they can?? Well still means nothing and nothing to be upset about.
I’m saying I bet you five dollars a memo will go out to staff or it will be addressed in a meeting soon because too many have complained at this point and it looks bad on the company. Turning off the tag is a simple fix to make everyone happy and change little.
I play this game, and I want it to be successful for my own selfish reasons. Something like this is damming to a games reputation. This is not the first time nor the first MMO to have had a community flare-up over it. It would be a shame to see something like this damage such a great creation when the fix is so simple.
It would be absolutely shameful if they caved. The anet guild members should be able to be just as proud of their guild affiliation as the rest of us.
If only there were a structured competitive game mode in which players could kill other players.
lol, I’m not the least bit cranky. and if you read my post you would see I’m talking about perceptions, not necessarily reality. At the end of the day what people perceive becomes “their reality” regardless of the real truth. It’s just the way of life and calling people cranky isn’t going to go very far in the “let’s work together” side of things.
I didn’t say I wanted to work together. When people’s views are so beyond the pale, there really isn’t even any common ground to begin building a bridge. Perceptions be darned.
The biggest issue I see on these forums, but barely in-game, is the massive sense of entitlement. It permeates a significant amount of threads and I think it keeps a massive amount of the rational people far away from here. A bit of a self-perpetuating vicious cycle.

Just because you see an anet tag in wvw doesn’t mean that specific anet employee is part of the WvW team. They could be an artist for the game. Perhaps they manage the network hardware for the building. Heck, they could be an intern for all we know. They more than likely have ZERO to do with the direction of WvW and have their own specific loves and gripes about this game mode.
There are sure a lot of cranky people in this thread. Y’all need a Snickers bar.
The build has no direct counter so there really ins’t a rock, paper or scissor to the build. Some builds have a slight chance at killing it while others aren’t in significant danger but that is a handful of meta builds. An average player in an average build has no chance. Most don’t have a chance against the hybrid Ghost builds that don’t need to stealth the entire time just as an opener.
I have only died to a Ghost Thief ONE time. It was way back right before they were becoming a thing and I just didn’t understand what was happening. I learned from that one time and now I don’t die to Ghost Thieves any more. I don’t need to kill it. It can sit there all day and rot on its traps as far as I’m concerned. I move on to bigger and better things. For me it’s almost the same as fighting Nike warriors. I get them low, they run off and the fight is over. I’m not going to beat my head against a keyboard trying to force myself to have a bad time.
JUST MOVE ON (not aimed at you, I’m just saying this generally to everyone). Seriously. I consider myself to be a mediocre player at best and I do. not. have. trouble. with Ghost Thieves. Like at all. Hell I even built and fully geared one. Played it for an hour. Maybe two? Bored me to tears. I just don’t get what the big deal is for those who play them and for those that fight them.
If you’re playing “rock”, you will never beat “paper”. Just move along and find something else to fight. I’m pretty dense but even I’m smart enough to have figured this out.
In our current matchup, we have a thief and Mesmer that do it endlessly. They both seem to run around in 1 big circle over our 1/3rd of the map in nearly the exact same pattern over and over again. It’s not unusual to look at the map and see EVERYTHING in our third of EB contested with no enemy to be found.
I’m amazed at how many people don’t understand, know, or care about stealth traps and revealed skills. Most times it’s hilarious to watch as 10 or more people chase them around in circles. I can almost hear the Yakety Sax music playing…
Yes please do, it would be funny.
Legit funny AF. Coworkers lookin at me like I have a chicken for a head.
When the long loading screen occurs in the “ModelsLoaded” and “ModelsTotal” keep racing up and down very quickly. Hopefully this helps.
This exactly describes my issue as well. The models appear to be struggling to load (around the 4,500ish number) and keep loading, reloading, reloading, reloading the same batch over and over again and this is where my load screen “hangs”. It happens for exactly 121 seconds every single time.
Once my weapons become invisible I know the loading bug is coming. The next thing that happens is my character model becomes invisible as do all the npc’s (including enemy npc’s like tower lords as well as friendly merchants at spawn).
I despise sPvP, LOVE WvW, and tolerate PvE. I like that anet introduced reward tracks and the ability to purchase HoT mastery things with Proofs of Heroics. This ensures that the time I have to spend in PvE is minimal.
Ah yes that old yarn. It’s entitled to be upset about anything to some people I guess. Funnily enough it’s the “defenders” that are acting the most childish in their responses and yours is a key example of that.
If ppl are upset over something this petty, then it’s right to ridicule them. Time to put the big boy (or girl) pants on.
I feel like a lot of you are misunderstanding why people are upset. It’s not the delay, it’s that people feel a bit strung along with statements like “a little later than usual” and “slight” when others are saying they’ve known it was a real possibility it wouldn’t come out today. That’s why most people are upset.
I give zero kittens if ppl think they’ve been strung along. Anet thought they’d get it out. They ultimately decided they couldn’t. They kept updating us as they made progress until they finally called it. Even if it’s a day or two late, that’s still “soon” in my book.
Frankly the amount of entitlement among some people is absolutely insane. At least all these entitled kittens can go rage chat some more in an AB multimap for another day. [/Brightside]
