The issue is that scribing stations exist only in guild halls, not cities. Crafting practically requires TP access. Hence, you need both in the same place.

Is there a scribing station at the Guild Initiative in Lions Arch? Or how about taking your char to a trading post then from there going to the guild hall. You can leave the guild hall, land beside the trading post and then go back to the guild hall. It’s probably not much longer than running from the scribing station to wherever a TP would be in a guild hall then running back to the scribing station.

OMG Awesome !!!! Thanks Anet

If it’s f2p, how did I just manage to spend $100 for an expansion? F2p means free to play. You can’t play over there without paying.

You didn’t have to buy the $100 version. I paid $50 for it. Did you get $50 worth of content? I think so. Look at how much you get in other games for $50 bucks. Most times it is a LOT less.

WoW cots $15 bucks a month. Plus the initial cost of 49.99(on sale now though I think)

So the cost of this game is drastically lower. The lights need to stay on somehow. Especially if you want updates and events and fixes. Those require people, who require money. You either pay a subscription, or you pay in other ways. ANET has chosen the gem store.

Do I love everything about this game? Nope. But I play it over other MMO’s that do have a subscription cost.

Do you realize you completely missed the point of my post? Because you did miss it, by a county mile.

I wasn’t complaining about the cost. I was pointing out that if you have to pay to play then it’s by definition not free to play.

I think maybe it is because I am newer to this game. But none of this surprises me. The game is F2P. They have to make money somehow. These people don’t work for free. The astronomical costs of items in games is by design. Why pretend otherwise? They NEED you to pull out your credit card and buy gems or the game goes away. Purchases of the game will only go so far. To keep it running there needs to be a revenue stream.

I can understand why people are upset. To be honest I would rather have no gem store, pay a subscription and have everything earn able in game. But that isn’t happening.

This doesn’t excuse the the obvious problems stated in many other posts. I am just saying, I understand why they do this. Not just why, but why the have to do it.

If it’s f2p, how did I just manage to spend $100 for an expansion? F2p means free to play. You can’t play over there without paying.

Scribing profession is unreasonable

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

Scribing was poorly designed. A guild based crafting to unlock guild perks should be progressed by any member of the guild given authorization to do so by that guild.

For example: a panel at the crafting table that has guild wide scribing. Any scribing progression is attached to the guild itself and not attached to the guild member. Any guild member that has a scribing permission from the guild can advance scribing higher or craft wanted items. That way you don’t have multiple people in one guild fighting over scarce resources to individually level up their own crafting. They will use scribing mats donated by guild members into a scribing mat donation panel or they can use their own mats to progress the guild’s scribing. If they get tired of scribing or leave then the guild doesn’t lose that progress and only needs to select another person who wants to do scribing.

While I can see them making a Mini Me based on the ability for Mesmer clones to look like the Mesmer, I can’t see them giving it away. A Mini Me sounds like it would need a lot of time and work to put a changeable appearance on a mini pet. They’re bound to want to charge for that.

Truthfully, I was quite happy with the ability to get account bound dyes from the gemstore dye packs. I’m hoping they offer that again for each birthday from now on.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

The game has ways to make gold. They’ve recently buffed the rewards for doing events and I can make what I consider a nice amount by doing events and harvesting whatever I come across and selling off mats at the end of the day. If I’m willing to spend a few minutes refining once I have a stack of mats then I make a bit more. Maybe it’s not Wanzelike income but I’m content with it. In an economy where I don’t need food or shelter, whatever income I get is above my few needs. All that’s left are wants.

So, can I as a farmer/event doer have my wants satisfied in this game? Pretty much. I ruled out some cosmetics as being more expensive than my “want enough to work for” scale and settled on others and now each char has a look that I’m happy with that fit with my budget. What more do I need? Should I be thinking about other players with way more than me if I can’t even see how much they have? Spending time making yourself unhappy about other’s riches when you don’t need these invisible riches is the definition of envy.

The game offers lots of ways to get gold. It simply can not offer ways to get gold that suit everyone’s taste. Which means you might need to do boring farming or crafting or doing events in a map that pays well to get gold.

Truthfully the arguments that I’ve seen where people want more gold yet refuse to do what is needed reminds me of an old joke.

There once was a man who fell into a river and was swept away. Other people, seeing him in the river rushed to help. One man with a rope stood on a bridge and when the man sent by he threw the rope to him. But the man refused to grab it, crying out, “God’s going to save me!” Another man was in a boat and tried to grab him as he went by, but he refused his help, crying out, “God’s going to save me!” People in a helicopter, seeing him in the water flew to him and lowered a ladder but he refused to grab it, crying out, “God’s going to save me!”

and then he drowned.

He arrived in Heaven, and there is God. And he reproached him saying, “God, I believe in you and you let me die.” And God said, “I sent you a man with a rope. I sent you a man with a boat. I sent you a helicopter. What more did you want from me?”

The moral is, maybe those who refuse to do what is necessary to make the gold that the game offers should stop crying out “ANet should save me,” and save themselves.

How do you farm cloth and leather? Specifically the lower tier ones, not the common thick leather and silk from salvaging lvl 80 blues and greens.

Two main ways that I know of. One is killing mobs that drop bags in the map level that those cloth and leather are from. Those bags will have cloth and leather of that level. The other is having an alt of a particular level open up all containers. For example I have a level 60 open up all champ bags, PvP containers, gear bags, etc to get linen, platinum and leather of that level.

To be blunt, I can’t see this part as causing anything but trouble for you. It’s too subjective. What is a quality person and how would it be determined? If you get 10 recruits for a guild and the guild leader later refuses to pay, saying they aren’t quality people, then you’re out of time and gold. It would have to be gold upon acceptance into the guild.

Crafting experience doesn't move the XP bar

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

Crafting never affected a mastery line. It increased leveling XP until you reached level 80, but not a mastery XP.

Um… but the main thing is that crafting gives a very specific thing: XP. That’s the same stuff that we get from kills, events, exploration, and story. If crafting doesn’t affect the mastery line, why should any of the other normal ways of obtaining XP work? Maybe we should only earn level XP from adventures! Uhoh, I said that aloud, didn’t I.
Well… beware the next patch.

They disallowed crafting XP to give mastery line XP. Possibly because they wanted people to progress the mastery line by playing and not crafting. I’m sure some people would take a level 80 char, get the cheapest crafting to 400, take their next level 80 char and repeat, if crafting leveled a mastery line like it did crafting.

To be fair, it takes a very very very very dedicated crafter to get serious XP from crafting after hitting level 40 or 50. So if it’s going to take hours and hours on any/every character to get XP from crafting for mastery levels, why not leave it in? It’s obviously their preferred gameplay, so it’s not really cool to leave them out.

It’d even benefit the new business model, because dedicated crafters are probably some of the bigger spenders (bank tiles, money top-ups, etc). Killing/doing events doesn’t directly benefit the business model. =P

obviously you have never used gw2crafts.net

it takes me roughly 120-140 gold to craft a toon from level 10-80 in 4.5 hours.

By this same idea, I can use the 80 tomes of knowledge in my bank to insta a toon to 80, then use this same logic to craft every profession from 1-400/500 and you will have enough xp for 80% of all mastery points.

This is why they did not include it, silly.

In addition to what you said, using the fireworks buff adds 10% to any XP from crafting. Which is a fair amount as when it speeds up you get XP after XP, each of those increased by 10%. (I use the fireworks buff to increase the speed of leveling my key runner by crafting).

And then take a second char already at level 80 and repeat the crafting as needed.

On the value of "luxury" rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

No, I didn’t miss his point and I am certainly not envious.

That was the point I was making and keep trying to make.

This isn’t about envy.

As a non-envious/jealous type of person (I’m probably the least envious/jealous person you could ever meet, in fact), I find it offensive that people keep accusing anyone, who can see there is a problem here, of being envious.

Not only that, but in terms of rewards, in this game, I have very little to be envious about anyway.

As I have almost everything I need and/or want.

I don’t have legendaries, as I feel they are overly expensive and so, made a conscious decision to not buy them with real money, as I feel it would be unfair on others to do so.

Not to mention, it would amount to overpaying for the game; especially, considering it’s not the best game it could be, frankly.

I have bought lots of skins, however, as they are “just” skins and I do have a couple of ascended weaps and some armour, from drops.

I can’t guarantee no one else is envious, obviously, but the point is that not everyone is and there is far more to this situation than just (potential) envy.

All I can assume is that all of you saying this are very envious personality types yourselves – which is, probably what motivates you to play the TP so much, to get stuff – and you are just projecting that onto others.

Really, there is no other explanation, other than possible trolling, or repeating what you hear from other (envious personablity type) people, parrot fashion.

This made me really laugh out loud – what problem is there?
I can tell you what a problem was for me: Not being able to get a bow for my level in wow as the TP was controlled by 2 persons max. I had enough gold but no bow had been offered. You can get anything in this game without the TP, so I don’t really understand what “the problem” is.

The problem, lest we all forget at this advanced point in the proceedings, is the one described by Ohoni, in his OP.

That people have a tendency to become demotivated and/or disinterested and/or depressed, if the disparity between the rich and the poor is too great, or if one person receives a windfall that makes them disproportionately more wealthy than the average person in their community.

The “community”, in this case, being the players of the game.

As opposed to the, largely mistaken, common belief (especially in very capitalistic countries, like the US) that witnessing other people’s success/wealth/fortune motivates people to work harder.

The problem here, is that people might decide to just give up and leave the game, if they feel their only viable option to make a reasonable amount of gold, is to play the TP.

…and yes, we could all choose to say that what other people make shouldn’t affect people negatively.

However, the findings of the study, mentioned in the OP, would suggest otherwise.

That should be of interest to Anet, if they want to retain players.

Yet how can the game give all people more gold without also raising the prices on the trading post, unless it simultaneously increases the drops of everything by a large amount.

What happens in that situation? Everyone has a lot of gold. All items drop so frequently that they flood the trading post and prices crash. You can buy everything you want for a few silver or at most a gold or two.

And then what? Maybe you’ll be happy with that but will the majority of players be happy when everything that they get as a drop is essentially worthless and there is nothing to strive for? The trading post is flooded with more items than people want to buy? I can’t see that’s that’s a healthy MMO at all.

If that’s not what you want, then maybe you should detail how the game can decreases the disparity between high gold and low gold possessors, and not just say that it should.

As above.

The left hand list Is people who want to buy your ectoplasm, and they are offering as low a price as they can. The right hand list is people who are selling their ecto, and asking for as high a price as they can.

Now, you can either sell your ecto straight to a buyer, and take less money or you can list it for sale for more money, but it takes longer to sale and for you to get your money. In addition there is always the risk when you list an item to sale that the market will shift, prices drop below what you are asking, and it takes a long time to sell.

So it’s sell immediately and it’s a sure thing but for less money or list to sell and get more money, but there is a risk that it will take time to sell.

Change Gliders to FULL flight.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

While flying might be fun, personally I think gliding is a better system. I’ve read way too many complaints on the WoW forums about people who fly everywhere and use that to cherry pick things to do and to trivialize content. They fly in, land, do whatever they landed for at that one spot then fly off and go to the next spot. They never interact with the game except at those specific spots. This effectively removes players from the landscape that non flying players are moving through and makes the map more empty.

Gliding allows you to skip some things, but it also requires you to look for updraft and forces you to eventually land and stay on the ground for a while. While you are there you are interacting with others and moving with them. It doesn’t empty the map of higher level players the way flying does.

It’s hard to figure out what’s going on because your post doesn’t have certain information.

Support sent you a set of skins that have one use each. Did you use them already? Are you trying to use them a second time? How many Transmutation charges do you have?

The picture below shows how to apply skins from the wardrobe. If you have free skins to use such as the ones support sent you they will be on the top left above all the other skins on your wardrobe.

  1. You select wardrobe on the hero panel
  2. You click on the item you want to change the look of.
  3. You select a skin from the wardrobe on the left side of the panel
  4. You select Apply on the small panel on the upper right
  5. You will need transmutation charges in order to apply most items in your wardrobe.

In the picture, the person has 67 Transmutation charges as seen on the small panel on the right. These charges may be bought from the gemstore or gotten free in game. One for mapping a city. Usually one for getting 100% map completion. PvP reward tracks give you 2 per track. You get 3 every 28 days that you log in as part of the daily login reward.

It doesn’t take that long to get to 80. People go to the EOTM and level fast there. However you play, use all the buffs you can get. Fireworks give you 10% XP on everything you do, including crafting so if you use fireworks and then craft you’ll get more XP from crafting. In PvE, several of the Halloween foods give 15% extra XP per kill and even the cheapest tonic gives 10% per kill. If you have any boosters, use those. Kill all the yellow mobs as they usually have a lot of extra XP and do any event you come across. Doing all that gives a lot of XP and it’s possible to level quite quickly.

Exactly.

All rewards should be available through how you like to play. If traders only like to trade but want mastery points from achievements, then their gameplay, which is earning gold, should allow them to buy the achievements (and mastery points) they want.

Ohoni’s ideas solve a lot of gameplay problems when properly implemented.

You do know that there are a lot of achievements that are easier bought than earned right?

All achievements should be purchasable. It’s the only way to be fair to people who only like to play the game by staying in LA and flipping items on the trading post. Why can’t they pay for all the achievements and earn them that way? Why should they have to do things they don’t like to do to earn achievements?
