Ehmry Bay is one of the NA servers. Perhaps your confusing it with the map Ember Bay?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World

It mentions in that link that that server was named after someone at Anet, not the game map.

The only important things are the green star and the red and orange crosshair / cross thing which is usually a follow quest.

green star?
red and orange crosshairs?
follow quest?

We ARE talking about GW2, right?

He’s probably talking about the green star that shows the player’s story location and the orange event indicators, for example the orange circle above some event NPCs that you follow from one place to another or that is used to mark locations of events.

10k gold cap?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

Capping gold means people look for other ways to get past the cap as demand will still push the value of certain items above any artificial price cap. They’ll start trading outside the trading post and there will be an increase in scamming which will lead to an increase in support costs.

“Yes, when Gold is limited, people searched for other valuable trading items like Ectos.
Was this so bad? We already have tons of other “Currencies” that could be used besides of a capped Gold.”

If arenanet had wanted a barter economy with people trading outside the trading post with all the scamming that comes with it, then they would have set it up that way in the first place. They already tried an economy with an account gold cap, in gw1. If the cap had worked there they would have put it in this game.

10k gold cap?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Bruno.3812

Bruno.3812

I would find it very good as part of working agaisnt Gold Inflation, Gold Sellers ect. if Anet would introduce into this Game more Gold Caps.

Example.

Player Characters should have on their Characters never more than say 1000 Gold
Account Chests should have never more than maximum 10000 Gold

The Gold Cap for Trading Post Offers should get significantly reduced, now Item should be able to be placed there basically with 10k.
That cap should have gotten already reduced a lognm time ago down from 10k to maximum 1k

by limiting significantly the maximum amoutn of gold a character can have with him and how much you can own maximum as account would drstically improve the economy of this game and reduce gold inflation and would work massively agaisnt Gold Sellers, if players can’t have anymore unlimitless Gold as logn they pay real money for it, either legally through the gemstore or ilegally with RMT sites on the internet from Gold Sellers.

People would learn to re-value items in the game then better, and the gold cap would work also against the greed of some players, which think only because the got something rare, that they can become this way instantly rich by selling something in the TP for absurd high amounts of gold in the hope to find some kind of lazy idiot that has just way more than enough gold to buy it from the TP due to daddys credit card or due to TP flipping all day long and destroying the market this way for alot of other players for their personal gains and driving further this way the gold inflation wheel infinitely.

This kind of rich player club lobbyism you see occuring in MMROPGS quickly is it, which creates also gold inflation, where the rich get only richer and richer and those, which can’t follow, get left behind in the dust and stay too poor to be ever able to get the thigns they want in the game, unless they get their credit cards out as well and buy gems to turn them into gold.

GW1 had this kind of strong Gold Caps as far as much I can remember and it would be very good for GW2 to return to these strong Gold Caps.
Strogn Gold Caps also help the game economy, because alot more gold will become this way naturally quicker flowing, because you are much more likely to spent gold on something, if your next farming tour is most likely to bring you to hit your Gold Cap of either your character or your account completely, instead of gamers playing hamsters and constantly trying to save gold only to become richer and richer, instead of using it for either something or helping with it somebody, that can make use of it,. so that enough gold sinks in the game, what will work against gold inflation.
Gold has to be used and needs to sink equally good and fast out of the economy as like new gold is created so that the marked stays stable.
If one side is unbalanced and in case money is always faster created, than it sinks out of the game, then its just natural that gold inflation will happen.

So the most effective medicine agaisnt gold inflation would be to cap more gold for players and to incentivate players better to spent the gold in the game more constantly, because peopel will do so by nature, if they are likely to hit a cap otherwise, just not to waste their gold they have, until they just can’t gain no more gold due to a cap.

The cap in gw1 led to a barter system with ectos and armbraces to get prices above the cap for expensive items. In addition, many people in this game have multiple accounts that they can use to stash extra gold. They can also transfer gold between these accounts by buying and selling rare items through the trading post, such as a level 80 blue staff that was recently selling for several thousand gold.

LOL anet is on PST time and can’t figure out how to read a calendar. And they actually program for this game?

Considering they (those that post the Notes) aren’t at work tomorrow, and that April 1st started 43 minutes ago for some, I’m not convinced they “can’t figure out how to read a calendar”.

And thats why all their patches always start as soon as the day changes on the international date line or why Europe and Australia never never has to wait an additional day by their calendar. LOL—I guess its when its convenient for them they can make adjustments.

Patches can have game breaking bugs. For that it’s best to start them early and not right before the weekend when many Devs are not working. Fake patch notes dont need people at work to fix bugs and can be released any time.

Thankyou ArenaNet. . . Again!

Collect money so they can hire people to play PvP and WvW for them? If they want opinions from other people they could read the forums or make a thread and ask the players directly, for free.

Not everyone on the forums knows whats best for the game and most ppl in pvp forums complain about how they cant beat certain classes just because they are that bad.

Just because you pay someone to play the game doesn’t mean they know what’s best. If they’re playing for a paycheck and not for fun then they might not enjoy playing and the things they dislike might be core parts of the game.

Stephanie Bourguet
Hello Tyrians,
We have temporarily disabled the Level 80 boost item to address an issue. While we investigate, players will still be able to purchase HoT and receive the level 80 boost item but won’t be able to use it.
Players who had just started using the boost to test their characters in the Silverwastes will be returned to their home (example: Divinity’s Reach for Humans etc) and the effects of the boost will be cancelled as if they had not yet used it.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we are working on this. We will update this thread when the issue has been fixed and the boost has been re-enabled.

You can blame a lack of content if you want, but I believe Heart of Thorns gave this game a mortal wound from which it won’t recover. Asking an industry-high $50 for an expansion that delivered an egregiously low amount of content, not fully delivering on advertised content, and the stark shift in design philosophy to appeal to a more hardcore but less numerous group of players really hurt this game in a time when Guild Wars 2 needed all the good will and good publicity it could get.

Raids was just a very small part of the expansion compared to the other 99% that isn’t all that challenging.

Personally I thought he was referring to the harder hitting and more tightly packed trash mobs that made moving through the maps harder. Lots of complaints were about that.

Oh. Once you learn the mechanics, pretty much none of the new enemy types are really all that bad.

Yet there were still lots of complaints about it and people who hate those maps and refuse to go there, even now. So maybe it did hurt the game even if they’re not so bad once you learn the mechanics.

The problem as I see it was how there wasn’t a true learning curve in vanilla Tyria. It went from “auto attack playing” in core maps to “need to learn the mechanics” without warning. In other words it was a change in the games playing philosophy from core maps to HoT maps that the casual players neither expected nor had been taught to play.

The learning curve started with LS2 (DT & SW).

And if you look at all the complaints, it was too late and too little a learning curve. All of core maps and all of getting to 80 is auto attack playing, and then suddenly it’s not. The learning curve on those two maps is ok but the maps are easily ignored by casuals unless they want to do those specific meta events. Which leads to casuals hitting an expansion full of harder maps they weren’t prepared to tackle and then the inevitable complaints and the later inevitable nerf.

Or are you trying to argue that there wasn’t a drop off of players due to HoT or that anet didn’t have to nerf the maps due to complaints and people not playing on their new maps?

Just think how that would hit the economy. Level one char to 80 and you can get all the below level 80 armor for that armor weight plus the weapons it uses stored away. Get one of each armor weight and you can have all the below level 80 gear that you use in your gear wallet. If they don’t use more than one stat set at 80 then they can have as many chars as they want and have completely free gear. No need to run dungeons, craft or buy with gold after you get set up once. The prices of mats would crash.

The price of mats is inflated because people craft many gears for their other toons.

Mats have value because they are used to craft gear for other toons. Looks like you think an economy where mats are vendored because they aren’t worth selling on the trading post is a good idea.

A defence of "trench coats"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Trenchcoats make a lot of sense. They are practical garments that protect the wearer from weather exposure.

The only reason we don’t use trenchcoats today is because of modern synthetic materials and modern sewing equipment allowing for more form fitting outdoor attire.

The reason gw1 had form fitting, was because the gw1 engine couldn’t handle cloth simulation well.

Try moving quietly through the woods wearing an loose ankle length coat or a long flowing cape attached to your posterior parts. Let’s see if they don’t get hung up on every thorn and bush in your path. There’s a reason why soldiers and hunters don’t wear bulky outfits with long lengths of hanging cloth while moving across the landscape.

Another thread by someone who has confused the dislike of buttcapes and trench coats with a desire for women to run around half naked.

it’s a wish for more diversity in design instead of armor after armor with buttcapes or coats. it’s a wish for pants for women instead of dress&pants or dress&leggings. Just plain simple pants. It’s a wish for some armors with clean silhouettes. Not armor with so much extra cloth hanging down In addition, it’s a wish that armor sets weren’t so different between the sexes so that women have exposed skin on the belly, legs, or chest but the same armor on men, all that’s showing is the face. It’s not the wish for more skin showing for women.

Do you not have a million games out there with butt tight silhouette armor? Why can GW2 not be an exception to the rule?

Why does gw2 need to be the exception if all being the exception gets you is less variety? No one is suggesting remove the ones that are there now. We are asking for more options. Is there something wrong with sleek armor? The way your phrasing your question makes it sound like there’s something wrong with asking for more options that’s doesn’t have a buttcape or trench coat.

So the question basically comes down to if a HOT cycle REPLACES what is in the GW2 cycle or ADDS to it? Simple solution. Look at the days a HOT zone does not come up to see if they are in sync or not. Admittedly I have not looked closely (except on mystic forge days, which is the same on both accounts) but my two accounts (HOT and non-HOT) are on the same screen at the same time at reset and when I notice a difference it has always been because it was a HOT zone daily.

Wouldn’t it have to replace unless they added another daily option for those that have HOT? Since they didn’t add another daily option then obviously it’s going to replace a core daily.

There’s a massive difference between replacing a daily on a given day or removing core dailies in general.

Say, you have a bag with a lot of white marbles inside. Every day you pick a marble from the bag, look at it, and throw it back inside. Now, someone went and thrown a lot of black marbles inside that bag. On some days from now on, when you pick a marble, you will end with a black one instead of white. Does that mean, that the black marbles replaced the white ones?

For some reason some people in this thread seem to claim that it does.

Depends how you define replace. If both have 4 PvE options and on a particular day non HoT owners have 4 core dailies and HoT owners have 3 core and one HoT then you can argue it replaces the core daily as it takes the place of a core daily they would have otherwise gotten.

But that still doesn’t REMOVE the daily which the OP claims. It most, on that single day you can’t access it.

If I come to your house and remove a chair, you can no longer sit on that chair, because it’s no longer there.

If I come to your house and put something on the chair for a day, it doesn’t mean the chair has been removed, and saying so is factually wrong.

There’s nothing at all to discuss here.

If its’ removed, you never have access to it. That’s not the case here.

Interesting how you’ve changed my words from replace to remove. I never said removed so you’re arguing about something I didn’t ever say. If you’re going to discuss what I said then at least stick to what was said and not change it to different words. At any rate, if you had actually read it I was originally talking to someone else about to what they said about replace, not the OP. Go back up the thread to where I was discussing replace versus add with Menadena.7482. You and astralporing had to get in on that conversation and make it about the OPs words.

But the OP did say removed, which is why there’s an argument. Look at the title of the thread. The thread is about HoT removes Tyria Dailies. Bold print, right at the top.

I said earlier in the thread that if it weren’t worded that way, if he’d say some dailies are replaced, this thread would have had a completely different reaction.

When people spread misinformation about the game in the strongest terms possible, there’s going to be a backlash.

Vayne. My post was a narrow point about the Hero Panel to the person I originally responded to. He was saying something about replace versus add. I said it was replace not add because on the day that there is a HoT daily it replaces that daily on the hero panel instead of adding to the sum total of PvE dailies on the hero panel. I was not talking about the overall large issue of replace/remove that you guys were talking about. That’s why I referred you back to my original first post. I was saying look at the context of what I first responded to and tried to clarify with astralporing and then you.

OP was very clear on the definition.

For some strange reason, it appears that ArenaNet chose to disable the dailies that take place in the orignal Tyria zones as part of the Heart of Thorns expansion. When you upgrade to HoT you’re straight up forced to never be able to do any of the original Tyria dailes ever again, even on low level characters that can’t even access HoT. You will always find HoT dailies in their place.

Seriously, i don’t know why it’s still being debated.

I was discussing the different possible meanings of replace with the guy I quoted, not the words “never be able to do ever again” from the OP.

Apples and oranges.

With the new system you rarely see banners anymore. People used to put them out all the time. I used to make banners with my small guild and put them out occasionally also to benefit anyone who wanted the buff. Not any more since I get them now so rarely. I only put them out for big occasions like the Lunar Festival for the magic find buff. The way it’s set up is a loss to the community and a loss to a way to show community spirit and helpfulness.

They need to run that script again, lol.

Exotic swords with no stats listed for 5,000 gold? Impossible price or gold selling.

There was a thread on a similar subject. Since gold is limited to accepting 500 gold/week by mail or through guild bank transfers one of the more active traders was using a high priced item to transfer gold between his accounts.

Please make these season items an addition, not a replacement of a rng slot.
Its bad enough with all the rng on dye and chests, let alone having a fixed item which imho has rubbish rewards.

You are mistaken. The festival item does not replace an rng slot. It replaces a fixed slot. What that fixed slot previously had every time you opened a chest was a booster. On Nov 1st boosters were taken out of the BLC and a festival item was put in its place.
