Activating the Itzel spirit poison while killing the Keep Construct does not give you the spirit strings for the Envoy I collection. I’ve spoken with several other people that killed KC while being affected by the itzel poison buff but they didn’t get the item either.

Challenging Combat vs. Particle Effects

One of my other games put in highlighted outlines that would shine in front of any particle effect. So you’d still have this field of explosions and fire, but in it you’d see a clearly distinguishable green or blue or whatever outline that was making some motion so you knew how to react.

I thought that worked well, you can’t just make everything Lupi size, it makes sense to have some bosses like say Mai Trin the same size as us.

This even exists in the game to some extend. If you enable post-processing in the graphics options and move your cursor over a character it’ll show that character model’s outline. I believe allied characters have a cyan coloured outline and enemies a red one. It’d probably be fairly easy to change something so that all models’ outlines would be visible, but it still doesn’t solve the issue with ground effects being swallowed by various skill effects.

While this is definitely an issue, one of the best ways the raid designers can combat it is by making the bosses larger so their tells are more obvious. I’ll include this feedback in my report.

Increasing the size of monsters hardly does anything as you can see in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFAS7jPwPKk#t=1m40s

Don’t forget that a lot of targetted abilities scale with the size of the target, so making bosses too big might prove counter-productive. I’m sure everyone’s anyone that’s seen various abilities like the ranger warhorn, guardian sceptre immobilise, downed ele’s immobilise on enormous bosses such as Lupicus will know what I mean.

Looking back I remember wanting cast bars implemented (As I even mentioned earlier in this thread) but after having tried out the raids myself I’d rather have an option to turn off particle effects entirely. This would probably also be beneficial to the players that play the game on decade-old toasters and microwaves.

Castbars rly are taking to much focus from the battlefield, so to react on what you see should be the way to go. But you need to be able to see. (no effect blizard and clear animations (also at wvw/pvp))

It could just be something exclusive to raid bosses and/or certain bosses in dungeons/fractals. I don’t think cast bars would have a good impact on large scale WvW fights and I personally never felt that they were necessary in regular PvP, even before they added the standardised player models.

This has been an enormous issue since the game’s release, especially since the entire essence of the ‘dynamic, action-packed combat’ is to watch your opponent and respond to their telegraphed attacks. Over the years I’ve just gotten used to it, but that doesn’t change the fact that it can be nearly impossible to see what the monster(s) you’re fighting are doing.

Personally I think implementing overhead castbars would be a viable solution, but ArenaNet has, multiple times, stated that they refuse to implement those since it goes against the ‘you have to watch out for the attacks you can’t see =))))’ philosophy.

Do people actually care about world/server/region first kill(s) and completions in a game like GW2?

With that being said, I also think it’d be more fun for everyone if people refrained from spoiling the contents of the raids (And the expansion in general) but you should know that you literally are asking for the impossible. There are plenty of big guidemakers et cetera that all want to be the first to publish instructions, guides and walkthroughs for the various kinds of content so that they can maximise the traffic to their website and/or Youtube channel.

I sure hope that you realise this’ll ensure you will have to grind open world events in the Maguuma Jungle for the rest of 2015 if you intend to unlock all of the masteries. Unless the mastery system is reworked I can imagine that the only challenge will be to not fall asleep while you run along with the rest of the zerg in order to complete the same event for the 117th time.

I hope we can level masteries without DE's.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Bukkebruse.2810

Bukkebruse.2810

I agree. Having to rely solely on events in order to train masteries is awful for a lot of reasons, many of which you’ve already listed. I fail to understand why they’ve given us so many sources of mastery points (To the point where it appears that you’ll never run out of them) yet we still have to grind random events in order to actually spend them.
Instead of actually exploring you end up running between the same points of the map, looking for an event so that you can semi-AFK it along with the rest of the zerg. While I appreciate that the general mob design has been improved greatly when compared to the base game, the so-called dynamic combat system becomes completely redundant when 50 people can stand at max range and auto attack their way to victory while alt-tabbed out of the game.

I was under the impression that the open world part of the expansion was supposed to be about exploration, but as it currently is it seems that it’s going to be about farming events in order to actually navigate around and/or unlock content. So much for the ‘No waiting to have fun’ catchphrase that they’ve been spewing since the official HOT announcement.

Either rapidly increase the rate of which you ‘train’ your masteries (Make it require less experience, give way more experience for completing events, tasks, defeating tough monsters and so on) or give us more ways to obtain the experience required to level up the mastery track. Currently we have an overflood of sources that provide mastery points (A currency that to some extend is useless since you can’t spend it anyway) so perhaps some of the achievements, events and what-so-ever could provide mastery XP instead. Just my thoughts.

How will raids handle buffs?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Bukkebruse.2810

Bukkebruse.2810

Because of the large diversity of encounters, I was prompted to ask whether players will be able to swap out abilities between boss fights. Johanson said that currently players are in combat the whole time they are in the raid instance, so swapping out abilities isn’t possible. But he did say that ANet is still “playing around with what [it] will let you change.” However, he was quick to point out that weapon swapping can easily change a character’s role in the group, and that can be done on the fly.

The development team’s “playing around” also extended to group boons another group support abilities. Currently, Johanson said that it’s still in flux and there will be parts where the groups will be split. But as of right now, boons affect only the five people who are in your group.

New dungeons should be in the same format that Underworld and Fissure of Woe were in GW1: big open area with a certain amount of objectives to complete in any order that you see fit.

When they ever introduce raids I hope it follows that format, emphasis on splitting and real risk. Can’t say my expectations are high though..

I agree. I personally believe that we’ve reached the point where we are utilising the game’s mechanics as much as we possibly can and that intentionally limiting ourselves just because something ‘feels unintended’ is taking a step in the wrong direction. I’m all up for removing unrestricted and re-creating restricted with a ruleset that allows more or less everything except the usual bs like non-food consumables, goating, breaking out of maps etc.

How can it be pointless if it leads to a rule change? How can community be “more or less OK with it” when they decide to ban it?

I still think it’s because people didn’t fully understand the vote/question and possibly thought they were voting for disallowing disabling a boss that hadn’t turned hostile yet. If still you want to do the votes, reset the votes, possibly make sure people actually understand what’s being votes for in the first place and make them write an actual reason as to why they think it should/shouldn’t be banned so they don’t just pick some random option without really knowing what it is.

If I didn’t know the context of why there was a vote to ban immobilises to begin with, then I’d personally think that ‘before they have turned active’ would mean disabling a boss before they’re attackable (Think of it as if you are using CC skills on ‘green’ bosses/monsters, similarly to how you used to be able to knock down friendly NPCs with Slick Shoes, use Banish to move them around etc) which definitely sounds like something that shouldn’t be allowed.

I agree to some extend. Banning legitimate strategies just because “they feel cheesy ;(((”and then creating a dozen of exceptions because “we’ve always done this so it’s ok)” is just stupid. I’m just wondering when we’ll start banning damage altogether because dead bosses can’t use their abilities.

Like I said before, I don’t think people even realise what they are voting for and just choose to ban immobilising bosses because they see the word ‘disable’ being used and think it permanently breaks the boss.

This is crazy. It should only be illegal if the immob breaks the AI and the boss goes inactive permanently.

People evidently have no idea what they even are voting for. You could achieve the exact same results by keeping a boss permanently deep frozen, but that is apparently not a problem.

I’m sure you guys tested it already, but I have to ask, did you try replacing the thief for an engineer for better vuln uptime particularly for the underwater fight?

Considering almost half the run is down to the final boss, it seems most time saved could be there. However losing a thief for their dps on the first half of the dungeon may not make it worth it.

We considered it but never really got around to try it out since half of us didn’t have a lot of time to test it out. An engineer’s definitely not needed for a smooth Wollam kill, but it can probably make it a lot easier for everyone. In a different run we got a ~50 second Wollam kill with a thief (as opposed to the 1:20 kill in the videos) but we were unfortunately not able to replicate that particular kill and decided to settle with the 4:18 run since we were running out of time and had boss RNG the entire day.

Don’t quote me on this but I believe the lined-up ice storm is the result of someone (In this case the guardian) aiming the Ice Storm slightly on top of the totem as this usually causes most of the projectiles to hit the same areas. You usually do the same thing when destroying the ice elemental in Snowblind and the three towers in Arah p4.
Besides those totems die in less than a second if you actually focus on destroying them. It’s not like linecasting/roofsploits would’ve made any kind of difference.

I believe Wollam is the NPC named ‘The Mastermind’ since it has the same description as Wollam does ingame (Places mines, inflicts bleeding)
The three other end bosses of the explorable and story modes are also all referred to as ‘The X’ so I wouldn’t be surprised if Mastermind was some kind of placeholder name for Wollam.

I also know that there is at least one ogre type enemy inside the dungeon so I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the other monsters also belonged to certain monster type families.
