id recommend it iver d/d.
maybe personal preference though, but I find it more effective.
have you got an effective p/d build lonewolfe? thats what I play on my thief just to be annoying and have fun.
if I chose the right 3 utilities I could have 4 stun breaks on my necro and dont need to be 25% hp to get them. Obviously this is over kill and would never use that set up as 1-2 stun breaks are usually sufficient.
I just wrote a huge post (on my phone) explaining how a good condition necro should never lose to a d/d condition thief but it failed to post for some infuriating reason. ..
essentially condition necro has enough condition transfers and cleanses that if you beat them on a condi thief, they are bad/new to the class.
there are probably hundreds of new necros running around at the moment who dont know the skills well enough to effectively use them. I would imagine if you’re easily killing the necro… that is the case.
If you’re gonna put 20 in Blood, you also have the choice of going 20 in Soul Reaping to get Soul Marks, that way you will generate a lot more LF and be able to survive using Death Shroud.
I also thought of that, I was thinking spectral/condition build (theory crafting here) with spectral armor epidemic and spectral walk. 3 stunbreaks and lots of LF regen and condition pressure.
would be tempted to drop the 10 in curses for the DS stability.
would be a tough/durable condition build
thoughts?

enfeebling shroud is why id go 10 into curses. and probably go 30/10/10/20/0. dagger recharge and mark on dodge.
also thanks for the response Cheshire

I think that a 30/20/xxx or 30/30/xxx spec is going to be very squishy… as I have lots of condition damage and dont necessarily NEED the terror anymore, has anyone tried a 30/0/xxx or a 30/10/xxx spec?
focusing on stacking bleed and burning? (with a bit of survivability)
PvE, PvP and WvW’ers please
first time ive seen a thief call a necro OP… lol
the thing thats bleeding you while you dagger storm is scepter auto attack which has always been the same.
What trait builds would you run on a powermancer in PvE? WvW? sPvP?
give this a go.
20/20/0/0/30.
spectral armor, grasp and walk for utilities and spectral recharge in SR. dagger warhorn and axe focus. in a very good place at the moment.
im hitting bigger numbers now and only 20 into spite. loving the extra damage.
if it goes off, and they stay in it the entire time, yep, there is a spike damage at the end of it.
BOOM cheers buddy.
I just like the DS 5 animation… I cant figure out what damage it does yet tho, said in combat log I hit something for 1, 700 with DS 5?
There’s soo gonna be a nerf next patch.
I can see it too. Unfortunately.
will see how it plays first I guess.
burn would be OP in the curses line. as its in the power line you’ll either have to sacrifice survivability or condition damage to get access to burn which is good in my opinion.
engineer play is MUCH more rewarding than thief play. stealth isnt necessary to escape alot of the time as we have numerous CC abilities, blocks etc so I dont find escaping too problematic.
I feel like a kitten when playing my thief and actually play a condi p/d spec. fun to play but engie is more rewarding in my opinion
you are aware theres a huge patch coming soon? changing how alot of stuff works. Maybe leaving your necro now wouldn’t be so smart.
im worried about how long this will all take to download, if this is the changes for 1 of the 8 classes… could be an all nighter!
this is of course assuming that this isnt just bs. which I highly suspect it is.
chrysicola accessories are carrion. I think thats how you spell it!
Hmmm, Automated response is good, Protection Injection and Protective Shield are good, if you use your pistols a lot you could go for increased pistol range. Cloaking device tends to be super helpful in WvW, as well.
Since you’re going conditions, you could also try incendiary powder, gives you more burn. You might not need it though if you run other means for getting burns, like rocket boots or OH pistol.
(Also, completely unrelated to trait points, I run a similar condition build and you might want to try out a Geomancy sigil. They’re dirt cheap and work really well in Melee condition builds like yours)
I was thinking the same about incendiary powder but thought I’d rather go defensive to start with, being that im quite new to engie. my only access to burning is my bombs I believe, I will play with burning more in the future I think, I like dumping confusion on people too much to worry about that right now ;-) also got to try make space for it in the build somehow.
and I use a geomancy sigil at the moment! with corruption too. using pistol shield, can’t give up that blast finisher, knock back and stun! love me some CC.
what sigils do you suggest/advise using? undeads an obvious choice but is there anything else that is fun to play with?
my favourite memory on engie so far is a lvl 80 p/d thief trying to c’n’d on me to gain stealth and either stunning himself on my shield, picking himself back up after a shield knock down or trying to escape my bombs and toolkit blocks.
granted he wasn’t a good p/d thief but I was lvl 41 at the time and could just sense his frustration.
I didn’t kill him but some friendlies turned up and scared him off <3
ah right thats interesting (how automated response works). I think there’s more options in the alchemy line than others so may be a good one to test first.
thanks for the advice man.
and I realised shortly after posting this that the changes are coming in a day or so… hopefully for the better!
im currently using 10/10/0/20/20 and choosing traits up to this point has been logical and made sense. now im level 72 and I have the next 10 points to invest in a certain tree but I am unsure of what to go for.
any ideas?
I use bombs with the increase radius trait, faster recharge on pistol skills. vigor when I get swiftness and elixir S at 25% hp. swiftness when switching kits and tool kit recharge faster.
I may take bombs recharge faster, burn on crit, stealth on immobilise, 25% endurance regen or immune to conditions under 25%.
I will be using a mix of rabbid and carrion gear.
ill be in pve and wvw. probably more wvw though.
im new to engie, but the only thing that shuts me down consistently are condition classes (im only lvl 55) as our means of removal are few. I think it will get better with practice though.
Use elixir H, elixir B, one other elixir in conjunction with Cleaning Formula 409 (needs 20 in Alchemy).
Lots of little condition cleaners I suppose, if you run into your own thrown elixirs too, and you have the fast-acting elixirs trait.
thanks for the advice man, my love for kits doesn’t leave much space on my spec for elixirs but I am definitely thinking about picking up elixir S with 409 to help with condi and burst pressure. maybe switch out elixir gun for elixir S.
I main necro and im leveling an engineer at the moment. from playing ALOT as a necro and my limited time on engineer I can confirm necro will not become superior to engineer due to the addition of burning.
the amount of situations ive survived as an underlevel in WvW as a bomb engie weaving through zergs that I wouldn’t have had a chance to survive on my necro (fully geared with some ascended gear too) are countless.
engineers are the durable condition class. necromancer is MUCH more fragile and stacks conditions slower than engie (necro has better bleed application)

my warrior in full knights gear does more dps than my full zerk necro. though necro is soo mucch more fun to play imo.
I do plenty of dmg on my power necro, but I feel much more effective as a condition necro. I feel I deal more dmg overall using conditions
I feel my beserker necro does more damage than conditions and hybrid. Still nothing compared to my warrior or my guardian when running beserker gear.
if our burst (outside of wells) wasnt single target I would agree, but as I can stack high bleeds and other conditions and epidemic every 12s I feel the AoE outweighs the single target dps. this is of course situational and my opinion.
I guess what I’m trying to say is we’re better at conditions than raw DPS

ah ok, thats interesting thanks for your input chungiee.
im not struggling with conditions at the moment but will undoubtedly when I play some more WvW with my engie.
was thinking of doing that with gear though im not sure how I want to build myself just yet, I love bombs and will be using the radius and possibly CD reduction traits.. if I get some rabbid gear it would be CRIMINAL not to take incendiary powder.
that was my fear, I find engi so fun and so much utility but most of the fun goes when elxirs come into play.
I find with the kits I use I have a skill for every situation (except a stun break)
ok thats good to know!
also regarding the kits im using, any criticism regarding that?
im looking at going carrion with some rabbid for gear, good choices for conditions? I know grenades are verhy strong but personally I dont like them as I find them very BORING.
thank you for your help guys. The main reason im using med kit at the moment is because I haven’t madtered the healing turret yet so I think ill switch to healing turret when I practice enough.
super elixir is better than I thought then!
rhanks for your responses guys I appreciate the help
I didn’t realise the elixir gun removes conditions? is that standard for elixir gun or when traited?
thanks for the reply.
I am currently leveling my engineer which is alot of fun but am trying to learn the class before I go into pvp as I dont want to button mash helplessly while I get destroyed by ‘pros’
I have come up with a set up I like at the moment which includes utility skills – med kit, elixir gun, bomb kit, tool kit and supply drop.
my question is… as my necro is my main and I play virtually all my toons as condition builds im aware of the effectiveness of conditions, but where is the condi removal on this class? baring in mind I will not be using elixirs if I can help it.
I am aware of the “immune to conditions under 25% health” trait. but are there any other traits I have missed (besides .409) as I will be wvw’ing with my engie and want to be balanced.
am I missing something? or do I need to take an elixir with .409 for condi removal?
also is P/S and the above stated utilities effective for conditions and balanced play?
thank you for taking the time to help
when I made my 1st character and chose the skull mask with big floppy ears.
when i got to level 80 and tried conditions for the first time.
when i leveled my 2nd necro and only struggled with mobs when they were 10lvls higher than me (immune to my damage)
when I realized how powerful terror was.
theres more… but Im at work.
I enjoy the venom share trait for small group play. I distinctly remember a 2v2 I had in spvp,, s/d thief (me before the huge buff) a friendly warrior vs a warr and guardian. we had constant poison and alot of annoying immobilises and basilisk venom procs. I was my own cleric build and we won with nearly full hp regardless of how poor my friendly warrior was and my terrible damage from 0% crit chance. was fun.
not that this is a reason why its viable but it kind of shows the effectiveness in small fights.
mines asura too… and my necro… my warrior and my thief… little guys rule.
pistol 3 with the FT tool belt skill is pretty powerful in pve fighting multiple mobs (I haven’t pvp’d on engi yet but imagine it’d have a good effect).
im not sure they intended/expected engineers to use their auto attack too much given the huge diversity of other more useful skills the kits give them.
though this is of no consolation to people that dont us kits.
also this isn’t an excuse for a bad auto attack. just my opinion.
if you didn’t hate stealth so much I would advise using a P/D build, but it is very reliant on stealth to be effective.
I do run a pistol whip build occasionally which is fun to play. depending on how skilled you are as a player/how good you are at playing glass cannon builds you could either build 20/30/20/0/0 or 20/30/0/20/0 which is offensive (not stealth reliant) or you could go more defensive 0/30/30/10 or 0/30/10/30/0 depending on utilities used etc.
epidemic on a power build isnt bad at all. I haven’t checked out your builds but if you’re using dagger main hand you have a 3-4s AoE immobilise. also in big group events even with the lack of condition damage the spreading of 10+ bleed stacks will still do alot of damage and help you with tagging mobs.
I dont use it often on my power build but its definitely an option.
maybe the trait in soul reaping could be buffed to make it decay 50% slower instead of 25%. but I think no ‘decay’ at all would be too much.
im looking forward to getting to level 80 and using a full condition spec whilst also bossing the CC. p/s probably with FT anf maybe bomb kit and tool kit. im a new engie but the thought of all that CC and condi makes me excited.
awesome video man. such mischief!
I was living killing jotun last night and was also getting kicked out of kits. happened a few times actually.
Huh… I’ve been wondering what profession I should go for my 3rd character… and I think you just convinced me lol.

hey man, I have 5 lvl 80’s a lvl 55 and a lvl 10. I picked up engineer a few days ago and haven’t had this much fun/rewarding feeling during play in game yet. I main a necro (2 necro’s actually) and think engineer may give my main a run for its money if I keep having this much fun.
if you dont roll engie you’ll regret it!
You think you know me?
I’m on top of the fort you’re trying to capture. Oh, what’s that red circle? Probably nothing. Now you’re choking on my gas grenades, and you can’t roll far enough to take you out of it because your body is numb with ice. Something flashes, you can’t see, where am I? I’m right behind you, setting you on fire. Finally you find yourself able to run away, what’s following you? A ball of napalm, that’s what. It explodes, it burns, it hurts so much. Then the hurting stops. You’re lying on the ground, gasping for breath. A wall of fire spreads on top of you. Do I keep up the assault? I do not. I’ve already dismissed you. What am I doing? I’m dodging through all of your friends, I chug a potion. I deploy a turret, where did it go? I destroyed it. Suddenly I’m back up to full health, and your friends shouldn’t have stood so close to the cliff. Some of them are smart enough to dodge through me when they see the bubble appear. Most aren’t. Half of your friends just went flying, what’s on my screen? Numbers, many numbers, high numbers. That’s the experience coming in. Your friends start falling back, what do I do? I pull out the rifle. One of the poor suckers get netted, I turn the rifle to the ground, and within the blink of a moment I descend upon him from above like a thirsty vampire. Before he can react he’s already taken a Blunderbuss at point blank. He turns to face me, where am I? I’m already gone with an overcharged shot. I get up, he gets up, supply drop goes down. Netted again. I leave the turrets to finish him off as I head to meet up with the commander.
You think you know me?
I am Engineer. I embody versatility, utility, cunning. Adaptability. I am dynamic, flowing. I shape the battle in my favor using every tool at my disposal.
This is who I am.
I actually really enjoyed reading that! was fun.
my DS build is 20/20/0/0/30. its great fun to play. the only mandatory traits are spectral skill recharge and spectral attunement. but I take stability on DS for shroudstomping cos I love it.
I use dagger/warhorn and axe/focus.
spectral armor, grasp and walk for utilities. elite can be any, I like liche.
(edited by Bull Zooker.1672)
been watching this guy (oozo) since launch.
great player.
keep us posted on how you get on :-)
I have rolled an engie (last night) because I have seen videos of them being played like an elementalist (swapping kits all the time and quite dynamic) as ele’s are EVERYWHERE I thought the engie would be fun.
I like the feel of pistol/shield with grenades and eventually bombs and tool kit as utilities, giving me a guaranteed skill to use for a given situation.
so far I haven’t been disappointed.
