do something hard like PUG arah p4
Just Put “LFM New Players Arah P4”. And you shall have hours of fun.
Guardians have all kind of damage mitigation. VoJ Blind(Constantly refiled on kill), Focus 4 blind, Retreat block, VoC block, Focus #5 blocks(3 of em!), Dodging, and a heal that blocks!
Guardians are defensive even when using their most offensive setups. We just built that way.
You can’t really ‘suck’ , the dungeons are fairly easy. You can only get new players that have no idea what to do. But i see alot of people that think they are elite but they are just average or even worse. Being ‘good’ dont think its possible too , unless its a solo or a duo. Its not a skill test, its a DPS test.
Lupicus says otherwise. I have played with people in full arah gear and say they do Arah all the time. In comes Lupics…. And they suck. bunch of floor mats, can’t dodge some red circle or life suck.
What do you call a cleric guardian who never switches off his staff in a dungeon, and makes comments thinking he is a credit to team?
True story, had one of those in a CoF P2 group. Coupled with a bow warrior, a GS warrior, and some other class. The final boss took 4 cycles to kill! If I didn’t know any better, I’d say my teammates were healing the kitten thing.
Do you even play full zerker?
“I hate something so much Anet should nerf it into the ground to the point in which it’s not even worth having, that’ll teach those zerkers”.Where did that come from? That’s not what I meant at all.
I definitely did not opine to nerf zerker gear. My point was that zerker gear should be near the edge of the bell curve in the risk/reward spectrum. In other words, a smaller portion of the player base should select full zerker gear because they are skilled enough to compesate for the drawbacks (squishiness). What I’m seeing though is that a majority of players see it as the go to gear for anything PvE – it falls pretty much at the peak of the bell curve for usage. Of course this is based on observation only and on in game and forum chatter. I may be way off and it’s only a vocal minority who claim zerker or nothing. Not having access to true usage stats it is merely a guess.
Most pub dungeoners don’t run zerker gear. It is clearly evident which guardians aren’t as well as warriors. Its sad to see cleric guardians running around in dungeons. They give us such a bad name
I made some changes to your Build 2. Mostly the Traits, I did a 15/15/0/30/10 build with different Masters in a few spots.(really don’t need two handed mastery IMO, better off with longer symbol duration)
Also the blind spam from 15 in Radiance is amazing. You can blind first attack with virtue, block second with retreat, block third with virtue, blind with focus, then you can probably blind with virtue again since it refills so quickly on enemy deaths. That is all kinds of damage mitigation right there(plus radiance adds more crit chance!).
Variant with different armor but adds more utility to shouts:

Whats funny is people always say that zerkers are too OP and the other gear needs to be made viable…
Yet 95% of Puggers Run Knights/Clerics/PVT/Kitten gear… <— That’s probably why they don’t address. Because majority of players don’t try to maximize their potential.
Understand, I think Zerk is best, and I only use Zerk. I’m just saying until the majority of people actually start using it, the devs probably don’t care.
I still donr get how anyone dies to spider boss. I routinely solo him (her?) when the rest of my party fails to stack properly and gets killed by poison.
Just watch the boss for like 30 seconds and you’ll figure out its pattern.
I have a tendency to not pay attention in that fight since its so easy. So if a stack fails, I generally don’t notice it until I was spiked down. 12k HP is rough when pugs fail on simple things :/
for PVE “most damage with best survivability” run 15/15/0/20/20 hammer based. permanent protection makes you sponge hits, and a good hp pool helps too. you also bring all the support that a guardian is wanted for.
berserker’s gear is obviously the best, but you can use some knight’s too (though this build is durable enough to play full zerk). just remember to always have a crit dmg jewel to maximise your stat gain (so preferrably zerk jewels)
I personally think an easier build to run would be 15/15/0/30/10 build. You get even more HP with condi removal through shouts, while still getting master of consecration. Then as mention protection from the hammer auto-chain will help too. I think 30 into Honor makes life so easy, since the shouts are freaking amazing, and you can get condi removal on top of it.
I run a 10/30/0/10/20 build, but this one requires a lot more skill swapping between engagements, and is much more unforgiving to new players IMO. I hate using my Virtue to remove condi, but its there for a “Oh kitten” moment. For newer players, using your virtue for condi removal could have dire consequences since you need to use your elite skill just to get HP regen back.
I don’t think the problem is ranged or melee, the problem is moving. The spider queen sprays poison if anyone moves. If you stack to melee near the stairs and even one person moves an inch, she sprays poison and it’s pretty hopeless because there is no escape or room to dodge.
You can also range her, spread out, just do not move if you don’t want to be sprayed with poison. And don’t run to rez someone who is downed. You will both be poisoned and die. Better to let them rez themselves.
You can even have half the party melee her and one or more party members range. As long as nobody moves.Nope, I dodge into the corner. Usually on my ele. So I fire#3 into the corner, and FGS #3 into the corner.
It’s a ranged issue, not a moving issue.
^I second this. I have had times where I didn’t pay attention and ran around the corner into her, and then immediately tucked back to the corner and no poison. When I see poison it is usually caused by someone who took some damage, began moving backwards out of fear, causing the heavens to open and pour acid on us.
Zerker in WvW is a specialized burst build type gameplay. Useful in small team roaming. There are some pretty awesome videos of it doing serious damage. I haven’t got around to trying it. In WvW I run a build meant to help with condi spam(when I do roam, but my server has been getting its teeth kicked in).
As far as the misunderstanding, I may have went a little overboard on my original comment at the OP. I think I’ve been reading too many forum posts as well.
I’ll let the thread play out as it will. Though with no more input from OP, all this may be for nothing lol.
The notion of survivability is also a subject worth mentioning. I think it is important to stress to people that if you rely on gear for survivability, then you will be met with heartache on most of the more difficult dungeons/fractals. Survivability is determined by dodging, blocking and dodging.(Trust me, full knight won’t survive 4 red Circles of Lupicus).
Now I am proponent of new people running Knight’s armor with zerker trinkets until they learn their class better. So if he would have come in with an open mind, that would have been a clear suggestion. Instead he came in with a mental block on zerkers, and a preconceived notion that in order to survive he needs to have an kitten load of toughness. Both of which should be corrected.
Here’s the thing. I’m talking about Maximizing potential. You can bring, Aegis, Stability, WoR, Team Condi Removal, and Good DPS in Zerker Set. Not in Zerker set, you bring the same minus the last one. My point is about being the BEST possible teammate. Not just a good one.
And the reason I brought that tone, was how the OP dismissed Zerker like its the plague.(Especially when he didn’t even say what gear he was using, though we can make some pretty accurate inferences.)
Numbers look nice for WvW.
As far as PVE.
“And no, I don’t want to play as a zerker.”This line lets me know you don’t care about being the best group mate possible. Any build will “work” in PVE. Since you don’t care about maximizing your potential, then yes that will “work”.
-Sigh- Take your elitism elsewhere. You’re not wanted here.
Wait so its only Elitist if you are pro Zerkers? What do you call people who outright are against Zerkers like the OP? He didn’t post any build, just a statement of “Will it Work” and that he won’t go zerker. Isn’t the process of outright eliminating a possibility worse than advocating one?

I’d prefer titles for individual dungeons. Like kill Lupicus 200 times gets you “Arah Master” or something like that. That’s a title I can be proud of… At least if someone buys that one, then they really put in some time in getting it. Too many “Dungeon Masters” join my group thinking they are superior to me because I wear “Golden” title, and sit a fairly low AP(~1900). Would love an arah specific title that takes time to get actually doing arah.
Traveler Runes are amazing. I only caution this. Once you get use to them, you will never want to lose that speed…. Be prepared if you try them out.
My point is, there doesn’t need to be a guide to each individual trash run. Maybe just a guide on how to trash run. Some people just don’t change utilities throughout a dungeon.
My point was a guide under perfect circumstances(ie being a mesmer), doesn’t help that much. I prefer a guide for experienced players to easily guide pugs through if a mesmer isn’t present. Which is why I gave that quick example of getting the Risen’s attention on the second run so your pug teammates can slip through on the left. Also not getting the ooze field or gas cloud active before they get to it is also a critical point.
There really doesn’t need to be a guide. People just need to get used to equipping their trash running skills.
If you can get all pug players this knowledge prior to joining that would be great. Appreciate it.
In what world does p1 have the easiest skips? The skip after ooze is probably one of the most difficult in the game for less experienced players. P2 isnt really that long. P3 fights are so easy, only one that might be painful for some pug groups is the mage crusher. When looking back at my first experience in each arah path. P3 was definitely the most newbie friendly and p4 wasnt so bad either despite it being long.
That’s why I made this:
Where’s your guide for helping pugs get through the second run without a mesmer? On my guardian I can do it in my sleep, but there is always that one guy who can’t seem to make it for the life of him.(even some pug warriors find a way to die there). Generally what I do to help people get through is pull the first group of risen to high right side, then let my pugy teammates go left so they can pass the Drakes and oozes with clean aggro while not having to deal with the risen putting them in combat early.

This sounds like a WvW AH zerg build, am I correct?
I HATE STACKING. I like a challenge and I NEVER skip kholer or any optional boss.
I know a Gorilla boss in Arah P1 who would like to meet you.
I run arah p1-3 every day and have never fought that boss. I’m kinda curious now lol. I’m guessing he is just annoying as all hell with knockdowns and what not.
@Chessrook.8643
If you ever want to run a dungeon free of stacking, let me know in game or add me to your friends list.I HATE STACKING. I like a challenge and I NEVER skip kholer or any optional boss.
Just run Arah P1-P3. Kill all mobs, especially the ones right before the Lupi Room. That right there is like 3 hours of fun for you. Then throw in full clear of P4. and you set your whole day with just one dungeon! Oh and don’t use the plunger to blow up all the mobs in that one section, instead kill all those guys too. There’s your challenge.
Actually – general question. The last leaked notes didn’t they turn out to be pretty much accurate of what came out?
Yes they did, with only minor differences/additions.
I bet they leak these bad boys on purpose to see the reactions then do minor tweaking if the outcry is large enough. Lets all group up on something to start raging.
