To answer OP’s question. I’d kick you for those Soldier runes. If you had Scholar runes, Full zerker trinkets and weapons. With 3 zerker armor and 3 knight armor. I’d let you stay, but I would assume you aren’t very good and would keep a close eye on you.(I’m very tough on other guards, since I love the class so much).

^ This guy is trying too hard to be an elitist.

PUG arah for two months every day p1-3, then come talk to me about not being elitist. The things you run into in PUG land will change anyone.

I did this crazy thing with my Foefire’s Essence. I transmuted it with my ascended great sword and now its ascended. O_o amazing..

But now everybody thinks that you are some noob who have exotic GS.

Funny enough I wonder that lol. But after I saw that god awful ascended armor, I quickly lost the allure of ascended items and transmuted all my ascended weps. My ascended armor too is being transmuted to my exotic armor.

I am aware that those groups take longer to fill but they are a new occurence from my point of view.
Also stating only Px on the lfg and then kicking people is a kitten move. You never stated any requirements beside the path number. This gives people the right to assume anything goes.

The pro’est thing to add to a LFG. Undesirables will be kicked. <— Example “Very Experienced. P1. Zerkers. Melee All bosses. Undesirables will be kicked.”

I think offhand mace makes more sense for a guardian to be wielding. Gives us access to a knock down for instance.(Though they’d probably F us over and make it do a symbol and have no CC). I’m just jealous of that sword#5 on warrior. That block is so pro for lupi….

wait wait wait does that mean guardians out dps warriors

Nope in the same scenario with every single buff in the game warrior would hit 100k with hb. Just autoattacking with axe warrior do more dps than guardian spamming all their keys. (Not counting reflected damage).
That’s just silly because that is too random. Because mesmer can reflect 200k dmg to lupicus dosent mean they are going to every fight.

Fun fact. Whirling Wrath takes 3/4 of a second to do. Hundo blades takes 3 1/2 seconds to do. Crunch some numbers on that single weapon attack Damage Per Second. Also, guardian sword auto attack is amazing. I feel like you are another one of those people blinded by the shiny hundo blade numbers.

In a perfect scenario they are really close(very small difference last time I checked guang’s numbers). The problem with guards is their inability to give offensive buffs, which is why multiple warriors are preferred for perma fury and banners for normal dungeon play.

I agree, and that all sounds great in theory, but im not that great of a player and i never run in organised groups.

For example when i first went full zerker i went and tried it out inside the Nightmare Ends story dungeon. When i was AH i could kill everything and never die, but as a zerker i had to take on one elite enemy at a time or i would die, even then that one elite enemy would take half my health.

Then one time i got a debuff, i could not dodge, could not heal, i already used Purging Flames and Absolute Resolution but because debuffs are applied so rapidly there was nothing i could do but watch that debuff tick away and kill me, that would have never happened in AH build.

I know this all comes down to me just being a bad player, but i just dont understand how people survive in full Zerker. Even auto attacks kill you.

For solo play, open world, or LS. Run whatever you like. The arguments being made here are for dungeon running, where things generally go from engagement to engagement. The team dps should be getting things killed relatively quickly, giving you a slight breather with cool downs between engagements.

The reason you were doing better in that nightmare event thing, was you also had the shout benefits, with protection, regen and what not. It wasn’t just the condi clear. This becomes less important with a team providing damage to end things quicker in normal dungeons.

I too have trouble with certain condi heavy bosses solo with this build. Took me a while to legit kill belka with a consecration build. Dealing with that burning was a pain, until I learned to mitigate(needed energy sigils to dodge more :/) the source of the fire, rather than deal with it.

1. Don’t waste them.

2. Condi cleanse priorities.

Weakest cleanses first.

Your team is at 95% health with some bleeds and vauln?
a.) Whirl finisher in a light field. (weak)

Your team now has more condis that are looking threatening, you’ve run through your light field/whirl?
b.) Purging flames. (Good but cast time, may require you to move to people)

kitten’s getting serious.
c.) Absolute resolution. (strongest)

kitten is getting real serious.
d.) Renewed focus, Absolute resolution again.

3.) Many attacks that cause conditions can be blocked with Aegis

You should not have an issue cleansing condis in any dungeon unless of course you are running in a team with no dps and fights take 10 times as long. In which case you will run out of kitten regardless.

Perfect answer. #1 is insanely important. Know your encounters, and know which encounters can put what number of conditions. This will allow you to judge if you should clear the condi or wait a bit for the bigger slam of conditions.

Also PoV removes 1 condition per shout, and 2 if you add soldier runes. That equals to 6 conditions removed. Where as 25 in virtues with purging flames is 9 conditions removed. So… Free yourself from the sub par build and read Swifpaw’s post a few times to instil this knowledge deep in your brain.

My theory of how to get good dps…

2. Crank up crit chance to close to 100%

Should be ok then.

Just to add a note to people who may be unsure. You should aim to get 100% crit chance with warrior Banner of Dis, and fury. If you are close to 100 after that, then you are good. No one is really close to 100 without the buffs or perception stacks. So remember to factor in those buffs.(which you should have).

allrighty idk I feel an urge to go Celestial armor but i’m not sure exactly how to do it… People say you should have at least 3000 attack and a decent crit chance to be useful in PvE content… but I can’t figure out a way around it

Easy. Two builds. One for PvE → full zerker(maybe knights armor with zerker trinkets if you are new), and one for WvW→ Whatever really, since you can do whatever there and no one really cares.

Get ascended zerker trinkets and weapons and an exotic knights armor set. Craft ascended zerk gloves, boots, shoulders and assassins chest, pants, helm to be optimal.

Didn’t know guards were doing this too. You still stacking perception? I usually just stack perception and food plus warriors to get my crit chance at 99 last I checked? You go Sin armor to swap to bloodlust?

I absolutely do not agree, simply because you always have a organized group where you can maximum your dps and do not need to consider the suitability for you own. This build is very misleading. The way I see guardian is that you cannot do damage or span skills if you are down by running glass dps build. Same way as I play thief.
I do agree that EM + AH is selfish, or not? Because only if you live can you continue supporting the team. The guardian should definitely be the last one standing even in a wipe. So from this perspective, AH is the best support for the team, especially in high end pve.

What do you mean by high end PVE? Like Fractal 40+? Also, AH teaches people bad habits. Like running things just to get boons. When consecrations are generally the better route for most content. Just run Knight’s armor if you need help staying alive. AH is pure bad….

and where do you need condition removal in pve except if you are trying to provoke an ooze war in arah path 1?

I added more to the post about other options you can swap it out for. But I have seen a many pug die from the 1st boss in arah P3, due to being immobilized or slowly dying of poison. So…. I’m trying to help the common man out. If you think your build is superior for the every day pugger, then please explain in more detail so the newer guardians who still pug can understand all the benefits.

EDIT:

1?
and as mentioned above, rhs doesnt affect reflections + it only affects 1h sword. so its pretty much waste considering a gs, sword/focus rotation is higher dps than pure 1h sword.

Is that in response to me? I doubt it since I don’t talk about RHS, just checking though.

thats just wrong. 10-25-0-25-10 is better for pugs because of empowering might.
10-25-0-10-25 is good for organized groups when you dont like rhs.

That’s just wrong. The 20 in virtues gives you more access to condi removal since you can’t trust your teammates to do so in a pug. I personally would never run 10-25-0-25-10 since I don’t like the low endurance damage modifier, and EM is lack luster IMO to lose all that condi removal(and if you don’t need condi removal for a particular encounter, swap it for 20% more damage with unscathed contender while maintaining master of consecrations. Or you could run master of consecrated WoR and 50% longer SOA for fights like alphard. 20 in virtues is clutch).

Well I personally use them because I put them in tier 3 cultural armor and don’t feel like losing out on my gold by salvaging, or wasting gems on a splitter lol. I love the vitality boost offered by the speed rune, but the problem is I invested too much into travelers to turn away now.

As a solo guard roamer running a medi build, the extra vitality is greatly appreciated. So I would choose speed over travelers for the health alone. Just my 2 cents.

Well, in fact I’ve done him recently and I think they buffed is mobility. I had to Kite him in a low dps team and he was awfully fastest then before.

You don’t need to kite. Just chase him around and stab him with your sword. I did that 2 days when I saw a Necro 2 rangers and a warrior posting they were at lupi on P4. I joined just to get some Lupi action in. Fighting him with pugs ranging is an added level of difficulty, since they make lupi walk from you on phase 3.

Healing Power

in Guardian

Posted by: Cat Has Ducks.1982

Cat Has Ducks.1982

I wanted to do a durable last man standing build. But so many people are saying the developers want everybody to spec for damage and healing power scales terribly. Seems kinda boring if everybody is a DPS spec. If i wanted to melee DPS i would play a warrior.

Everyone is DPS. The difference is what you bring to the group. We bring reflects/blocks/blinds/stability to the team. Warriors bring offensive buffs for the team. Two completely different roles in a dungeon group.

So replacing a guard with a warrior doesn’t make sense unless you have another class to make up for what you are losing in the guard’s lost utilities.

RECAP: Everyone in a dungeon group should bring dps. What makes the classes different, is what unique team utilities they bring that make the party better.(healing and being a wet boodle is not one of those things).

Yes, I understand that and I hate that mindset.
It’s probably all the fault of the introduction of farming + ascended gear.
Game should be changed to avoid this situation. Stuff like laurels and achievement points is nice. But all this farming (and having people enforce farming in dungeons / wvw) sickens me.
Watching scarlet events fail all the time because people zerg around the commander tag also upsets me.

Find a group of friends to full clear dungeons. Then you can do arah P1 in 3 hours like it was meant to be done….

I can actually clear any dungeon path with people of any class, any trait build, gear set up, and weapon choice of their choosing. So I don’t even care how someone else in the group sets up their character because I know we’ll finish the run anyway. But that’s just me.

Very noble. I guess after you do a dungeon hundreds of time. You begin to start enjoy having it take 10 minutes instead of 20. And in the case of arah 15 minutes instead of 30. Not all of us have 5 hours to do our dungeon rotations.

Guardian sPvP vs Ranger

in Guardian

Posted by: Cat Has Ducks.1982

Cat Has Ducks.1982

Once you start playing against the higher up type PvPers, you will learn the medi zerker guard loses to a lot. So enjoy the ability to kill stuff right now. Once you get to the big boys, mesmers will laugh extremely hard when they see an Off guard since you will be a rally bot.

Don’t get me wrong, I love guardians and not hating on you. But non bunker guards are really bad in higher level PvP. If you want to be a good roamer get a mesmer. They have a lot of tools to get back to points quickly, as well as burst down enemies quick.

Spirit Rangers also make really strong 1v1 on point defenders. I can’t bunker indefinitely versus them. They are really annoying. So you should expect to have a tough match up versus them, unless they are just bad.

This is not a L2P issue, its an out matched issue with offensive guards :/
We can win versus those higher up food chain offensive classes. Generally when bad players play them…

I think most of us that preach it. Play mostly premade now. So I don’t ask pugs to ping much gear anymore. I have added all the good zerkers I have ran into. And now I have a healthy pool of players I enjoy playing with. Puging reduces years on your life span. I prefer to do without the stress.

I would run this if you are new to it all. It’s the proper traits for a solid dps build. Then I added knight’s armor for the toughness, so you can get use the play style of these traits.

AH heals for a small amount, and forces you to stacks shouts. Which aren’t the best. Consecrations are. Also, AH doesn’t heal your team so it is useless in that regard. What I linked, gives you access to spamming blind on enemies, while bring reductions to all the good things, while doing a ton of damage. Learn this build, and you will be on your way to a top shelf guard.

Cat Has Ducks.1982

Fair enough Vargamonth. It does make for an interesting discussion I guess all in of itself. However, it could be that I’m just stubborn and feel like any class should be able to trait accordingly since several of the classes have homologous traits.

I guess it comes back down to the classes not being set in stone per say or rather no specific healing meta. Yet if I want to go full DPS I should have rolled something else such has a thief or elemental. Yet two of the heavy armor types (guardian and warrior) are supposed to be on the frontlines what would separate the two?

Confusing or stubborn, maybe both. Never the less thanks for having a discussion rather than saying L2P

Luckily PvP require 5 minutes to get a new character to 80 lol. So rerolling not needed. Also, the devs have stated, that they don’t want guards to have as much offensive capabilities. Which is very evident in our mobility and soft CC. Now you can DPS guard in yoloQ. Just expect to get torn apart by real roamers like mesmers.

Anyhow, I save my DPS guard play for WvW. Where 99% of the players are utter garbage, and they let me get my bursts off lol. In PvP, its just a different situation. Also, I don’t think an Off guard has ever killed my bunker guard. They just get torn up by my retaliation and ability to mitigate all their attacks.(Since I know guard moves like the back of my hand, they can’t surprise me). Without any kind of condi pressure or soft CC, they are weak.

Guards shine in team fights, with all them boons, rezing, and condi clearing(Save yourself can really save your teammates).

Here’s the thing. Warriors give 8 seconds of fury to the team every 25 seconds. Add that to their banner of discipline and you are looking at a ton more crit chance. That is bringing a lot to the team. With what you bring, might as well bring another warrior and stack more vuln and offensive buffs.

Consecrations are the bread winners in PVE. Meditations are crap for team play. No need for em. You are gimping yourself and your team. But at least you aren’t running a cleric build or something. I’m just glad I left pug land a while ago.

And look in this thread for a real team hammer build:

That’s 20% more damage! Also your power is pathetically low(add more zerker gear). I have around 2300 on my build with 54% base crit chance before warrior banner, fury and food.

This build is bad IMO. The only condi clearing you have, is 1 condi every 10 seconds. That is really bad. Take 10 out of honor and put it into virtues and pick up absolute resolution. You can keep the two handed mastery if you really want, but I’d prefer 10 into zeal. Also for fractals, you will have Wall of Reflect on alot, and should also bring purging flame for team condi removal and fire field. And as you can see, that means 2 consecrations which makes AH even more useless than normal(which is absolutely useless).

Just my two cents.

This is exactly my point. People that play with me know to heal me right at the beginning because after that I’ll be the last left alive to solo it if needed. It’s just a stupid ridiculous mechanic that proves absolutely f~‘king nothing except that Anet can’t make dungeons properly.

So you are pro solo carry the team yoloswag. But you lack AR?

Alright, I see what you are saying. And I can’t necessarily disagree with it. However, I do feel its not such a black and white comparison. There are no healing modifiers, there is only healing power and a variety of different skills/traits that apply healing in different ways.

So wouldn’t it be better to avoid having a overabundance of healing? Many of the healing traits can be substituted with weapon skills and healing skills. Faithful strike can replace wit of persistence and healing breeze could be used if you really want to heal allies. The mace trait can be picked up to avoid having to put so many points into honor, leaving points to be placed else where. This is just my perspective on the matter.

Also, I think its better to say that healing power is far behind in pve. But in spvp its very good.

Well I am as against healing power in PVE as it gets lol. Fighting the Hammer/Bow guy in arah P3 is a very easy fight, when the hammer dude melts from team DPS. But you can definitely tell a difference when someone isn’t pulling their weight in that fight. So the thought of a “healer guardian” makes me cringe. Luckily I run 90% of the time in a full premade so this isn’t a problem as I am the guardian of the group. I just feel bad for pugs…

As far as PVP, yeah I run a Bunker Guardian with cleric amulet, so I am not against it everywhere. Just dungeons and fractals.

If you do a few world event bosses you should get a bit of income to set yourself up for dungeons. Many PvE guilds will call when these bosses come up.

I didn’t even know vigor was being nerfed. When is this happening?

The devs mentioned they were looking into how easy some classes have it. I don’t think they outlined any time table or exact plan to nerf it. But expect something…
