Has anyone group tried a speed run in all PVT gear just to see the difference in time for any given dungeon. Say CoF P1?
I volunteer as tribute! I mean…. mesmer.
If you wanna give it a go I have a full set of PTV gear sitting in my bank (with a couple of trinkets to boot)
It would be cool to have back-to-back runs. One with full PTV and one with full zerk. Maybe if we get bored after arah?
I actually have PTV gear as well that I mix in for my WvW build… Hm.. Tee doesn’t have any but he can use his condi gear to simulate wet noodle lol.
Sure why the hell not. I will have tee stream it so we can see how long it takes. We will do it as if we were speed running and see what happens time wise. To pain and torment we go!
I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that this will also be used in PVE.
But for WvW are you planning on Zerking? Roaming? Solo Roaming?
The famous Emanuel rides….. Was it arah P1 by any chance?
I skimmed this thread. People put the P on a pedestal too kitten much. Just watch strife’s video right before you start. Crack open a beer. And do the kitten thing. Dungeons aren’t some mystical thing.
What to pay most attention to in videos:
1.) Mob Skips
2.) Special Boss Mechanics.
Everything else just stack where the experienced players stack and profit.(Oh and don’t bring a stupid build)
I solo roam and duel all the time with around 1760 toughness. Never really have a problem. But then again, my dodging, aegis poping, focus 5’ing, and shelter use has become quite good. Getting backstabbed for around 5k isn’t a big deal anyhow, those dudes can hit 10k quite easy on squishier targets. GS #5 and spamming cleaves in a circular motion is pro when they go stealth.
If this is in a zerg, then I have no advice, since I hate zerging.

I used ZD as the basis to create my own build. The traits and skills are clutch. I just changed weapons, armor, food, and trinkets.

All I do is things I enjoy. Luckily I love running Arah and fighting lupicus, which nets me good gold. And I enjoy roaming to find out numbered engagements in WvW. I never do things to grind. I enjoy my time when I play, which is why I decided I will never make a legendary. Map completion will never be done by me, and the seer thought of it practically gives me cancer.
I love my guardian, and will never main anything else <3. To each their own.
I was suggesting they should go to radiance. And saying that a 15/25/0/20/10 build was superior to the other build by a fair margin. However all this is a moot point to me. All people have to say is “play how I want”. I shall move on and just accept guards will keep using AH, sceptors, and auto attacking with staves from a 200 distance in dungeons.
Several percent lower? As opposed to doing a 15/25/0/20/10 which would give you the 15% damage modifiers(conditions and fire), as well as more crit chance? Also in dungeons like arah, I generally only have 1 shout on at a time to apply boons anyhow, so AH would be a big fat waste of time. Wall of reflect is too kitten strong, and Retreat should only be used to block for teammates, not to try and heal for 200 hp.
AH is bad, because it makes bad players feel like they should carry more shouts than necessary, even when consecrations would fit situations much better. Just my two cents.

Zergy Boring AH build:
Hate zergs and AH builds… Not saying don’t use it. Just not me.
I don’t mind a 1v2 or 1v3 it make ya feel better.
Hmm… DB is matched up with EB on Friday. Would love to duel Amins, and see how I stack up.
Man this kind of seems like fun…. I wish someone would post a vid of a guardian asking for what build they run. Even though most just run AH builds going 0/x/30/30/x boring mode….
Oh well, I will keep checking in with this thread as the story unfolds. Appreciate the responses so far.
My guess would be a hybrid clerics build similar to one that I run.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNBMhFaEoqyOwSxi1SQ0UkJzzecIFtoXhY5K4/KWZH-jkyAoNBRCCIhBg8AlFLiGbZsIasKGM9pStSNQ+kioVLFgeKjA-wSwitch some traits here and there but the idea is the same. You won’t have the healing power of a traditional BM/clerics but the pets that he chose without traits would hit a heavy armored opponent for roughly 900-1.2k damage while he would hit roughly 600-1500 depending on crits and weapon choices. he’d have some passive regen and when healing is used, would tick for roughly 950hp. It’ll be a really dragged out fight against guards, but against any other class, this build would be very hard to take down unless you can immob the ranger. Foods can also be switched around depending on the opponent.
Nice appreciate the build link to see. I enjoy learning about classes, and knowing what type of builds can possibly be thrown at me. Real good info in that post. And for fairness sake, here is the build I ran in that video. Though I have drastically changed it, experimenting with some new things.
Thanks again for the replies. Look forward to fighting more rangers that can give good duels.
Hit me up when you’ve got a matchup against EBay :P
November 1st, we are matched up
So you shall be hearing from me. Lord Chuck I[Lg] of Dragonbrand – Guardian
Thanks for the replies. I know next to nothing about Rangers. So I will look at build editors to get more info based off your replies. I appreciate the responses. That dude definitely had some sustain, as well as knowing when to dodge. Sucker dodged on some key points killing my burst chains.
Thanks again for the replies. Look forward to fighting more rangers that can give good duels.
No because they want to destroy our image, kill our credibility, so they have to make a mockery out of our ways.
Like the siths we will be casted into exile far away with nothing to furnish our existence but the bitter memory of our past glory. Like the siths we will wait patiently, for revenge and remorse fuel our veins with relentless anger. And like the siths we shall return stronger than ever, when they least expect us.
Oh yeah
So I was going through my duel recordings and ran into this one. Was very curious what type of build this ranger was running. This duel, was the reason I switched up the build in the video to one that keeps the pressure up more during a duel which would hopefully wear down tankier opponents quicker.
Prior to dueling this guy, I was beating up on warriors with little skill. This FA fighter made me hold rangers with a little more respect.
Thanks for anyone who helps.
TBH, I use zerk weapons and get my toughness, vitality, and healing power from my armor and trinkets. I have full ascended weapons except for my hammer. So if I was going to choose, I’d choose hammer off not having an ascended version of one. Plus a hammer is a pretty good weapon to have sustain with, so why not add toughness.
Just my 2 cents!
Guess I should be happy i’m in NA silver league? Longest queue I have had was like 10 minutes.
It makes me wonder why the hell people run guardians in healing gear.
It’s because they are bad. Or played other MMO’s and are mistaken at how this game works. Or they are just bad.
What are you going to do with this build in WvW? Zerg? Solo Roam? 2-5 man Roaming? Havoc Squad?
Give us more details to figure out what kind of build you require.
But it gives guardians mobility :p

I feel like people aren’t understanding what the OP meant by “Ego-afk”. Unless I am mistaken, going “Ego-afk” is standing your character in a spot and going afk for the sole purpose of letting other people see how awesome your title and gear is. So, I’m not sure that the top of the bank or that hidden garden in the grove really qualifies because basically no one is ever going to see you there. It isn’t fueling your ego if there’s no one to look at your shiny armor and marvel at your electronic girth.
And I think you didn’t understand that people were poking fun at the OP. See the post about the fractal back piece to understand the replies better.
Did you walk him next to one of the doors that opens after he dies? I heard that resets him. Though in all my lupi kills(which is a ton), he has never reset without me intending him to.
Altruistic Healer + Hammer = you NEVER die
you can pick a might-stacking build using altruistic healer and you will be able to tank 99% of the game and deal some sweet crits, also Hammer AoE damage is really strong
This is reference to Dungeons I guess? Because if you Solo Roam in WvW with that build, I will put you in the grave faster than you thought possible.
What do you do in WvW? Zerg, solo roam, small party roam, havoc squad?
viable choice
Debatable
Here is my change to the build for PVE dungeons and Fractals. Just moved 15 point around, into radiance. The blind spam is way to strong for dungeon stacking, that I wouldn’t go without it. And added my armor preference. (and added master of consecrations because that is too strong IMO to leave out)
Doing this without any requires some play with his AI to be safe.all.
In what regards? I melee and solo lupi. The way I do it may be a bit noobish. I just react to his movements and go about my business. But what are the finer points in regards to playing with his AI?
I don’t rez anyone. Use the WP and learn to dodge.
My policy on this one is:
if(person has been useless thus far in run)
leave dead
else
rezDuring a fight, sure. Afterwards I’ll balance those with the proximity of a waypoint.
Oh, yeah I should have been specific. If there is a waypoint like after lupi for example. They aren’t getting help lol.
Pretty safe usually, you are not allowed to move (and everyone else has to stand in it). Also it has to be up before he unleashes the first wave.
Yeah that’s the key. The everyone else part. I need to get back in there to solo some more. I can probably ditch the energy sigils for my next solo and try to get the WoR going. Appreciate the advice.
Nice vid OP.
However, I can’t see myself ever taking a meditation build into PvE. Shouts and consecrations are just too good. =S
You really need to try it. 3 skills that give 2k+ healing, plus your actual healing skill. Add dodge heals, and GS heals just for fun. On top of that, you get fury for those meditations, and condi removal from 2 of the meds plus stun breakers from 2 of the meds.
The amount of things this build does is really impressive. I have a few recording of me demolishing some bad hammer Warriors. But I’m waiting to upload a video when I find some skilled people to duel. Don’t know why I run into so many bad warriors. People will just laugh at my video saying all I do is fight bads, but that’s all I find being a solo roamer in the silver league on a server getting their B’s kicked (DB)
Question on WoR during Phase 2. Are you guaranteed safe if you stand correctly? I seem to always get some AOE splash from a nearby circle when I stand in the barrel like that.(Although I don’t do it often since I have had bad experiences)

Arah P2 is completely soloable. Go start having fun right this instance.(Really not too bad, just takes a while)
This is my version of your build using the trinkets I already had, and mixing other armor types to get similar stats. The big differences, are I don’t have -Condition Time, because I like traveler runes and am too cheap to buy lemongrass. Big gain, is 25% movement speed. Tell me your thoughts, and how important is that -Condition Time to this build. I have been running without it so far. But in larger 3vX type fights, I may want it….
Thanks for the reply. That is a lot of info. Really appreciate it. I’m still getting use to the build, so I will see how the GS keeps treating me. Will report back how it all goes. Keep up the good work.
Oh Prayer of Dwayna is my preference. I run too many pugs, so I like a larger burst heal. Shelter is nice when you don’t need to big gulp on HP recovery. Oh and no exotic is not better than ascended. It should be all ascended, I just put exotic there for the “everyman type build”.
There you go with ascended stuff and shelter:

Just going to ask this question for anyone who may want to give feedback. This is a PVE build(based of the gw2skills tab you chose)?
Oh now I see it. A pug left before the fight since you refused to use it. Got ya. Honestly I don’t care, since I don’t die in there.(well sometimes a bubble catches me when my teammates don’t know the mechanic)
This happened to me a few times in Dungeons on my Guardian. It sucks, and I don’t know what causes it.
I’m confused. So you refuse to use it because you wouldn’t get boons. And you wished the pug left before the fight started, rather than during?
If that’s not what your post means, then I can’t understand your writing.
Yes it is. It brings the cool down reductions on consecrations(hello Wall of Reflect) and reductions to shouts, while bringing High DPS. If you look around other people’s guides you will see this build pop up for Fractal and dungeon Runs.
After the skills Whirling Wrath
This one gets me kicked by lupi once in while when I do WW at a bad time….
DPS you get damage buffs from: 10% enemies on fire, 10% enemies with conditions(which is always), 10% above 90% hp with scholar runes, 1% extra damage for each boon on you(which is generally around 4-5). I hit WW around 19k+ pretty consistently against bosses.
And I use the staff for the warding, it can really help your teammates(I don’t always run with top level players, so I help them where I can). But if you really need the extra help skipping, use the sword focus for extra blocks and blink. You can even do swiftness with staff, quick swap it out for GS then start you run.
Skills to use:
Wall of Reflection <— Used in many parts of the dungeon in all paths
Retreat <—— Blocks are…. Well blocks lol
Purging Flames <—- good for enemies that throw condi’s such as the first bosses in P3, with that stupid poison. Also fire field for might stacking if no other source.
Stand Your Ground <—- Swap Purging for this during Lupicus.(to escape green bubbles)
As far as traits and armor. I go 10/25/0/10/25 with GS + Sword/Focus(I use full zerker but knights w/ zerker works if you a beginner guardian).
The idea is to use blinds as much as you can when LOS’ing trash mobs, and use good weapon rotations to help burst enemies down. On mob skips, us GS + staff. Staff to get swiftness, and GS when actually running so you can leap past the worst parts of the run.
Any specific questions?
(edited by Cat Has Ducks.1982)
Tried out the new ZD build. Though I had to get creative with gear since I don’t own celestial and didn’t feel like investing in it. After using a mix of PVT/Knight’s/Zerker/Cleric I achieved pretty similar stats. Big difference is I used traveler runes for the extra solo roam mobility.
I have to say, so far I really enjoyed the build. The amount of healing is quite staggering. I had a 3-5 minute fight last night with a condi warrior and was able to outlast him with this build. Was really impressed. The damage is something I am getting use to coming from a high burst build. But the sustain to damage ratio is really quite nice.
I will keep trying your build, so far I’m enjoying it. Other thing I prefer is Contemplation of Purity over Merciful Intervention, since it adds another stun breaker. <— Really key versus stun warriors. Keep up the good work!
EDIT: also how important is the healing power from the GS to this build?
(edited by Cat Has Ducks.1982)
Awesome man. That is the exact change I think you needed. The focus adds so much utility, while the sceptor gives you an extra bind, as well as dropping sceptor #2 on a downed opponent is the safe way to get him dead. Also torch to sceptor is a nice way to throw a fireball(torch #4), something else to think about.
Glad I could be of help. Hope to hear more as you grow into the build.
