Terrible PvEers can and will faceroll any dungeon in this game. Terrible PvPers will never win anything no matter how hard they try.
How can you call yourself skilled at PvE if you didint beat any hard boss that no-one can beat? Anybody literally anybody can complete any dungeon path in this game. The said ’’skilled’’ PvEers are only doing the current easy-mode content faster than noobs. That’s it. No matter how terrible I am , I can do excatly what the ’’skilled’’ PvEer did , it will just take me more time. While if you are bad at PvP , you are just bad and will never win.
When you YoloQ. The only thing you hope for, is less bad players on your team than the other. It seems no matter where my MMR is, it always comes down to which team gets less dumb people. I’m right at 50/50 win to lost ratio, based on things I can’t even control. Yay PvP. And yay 4v5’s… I would TPvP, but I only do it if I have a full team of 5 on for it, which is rare.
Negative, not if you make encounters around heavy AoE and condi pressure where survival rather than DPS wins the encounter.
So they’d have to redesign all dungeons? When the only thing they have done with dungeons in the past year was add that Aetherblade POS path?
They aren’t fixing anything. Probably just give some benefit to having more toughness or something stupid like that.
Yep, but I get the impression from reading several posts by devs that they don’t like the DPS meta since that’s build restrictive.
Yet majority of pugs don’t run the meta builds with zerker gear… If they screw up the “DPS meta”, there will be a new gold standard that min-maxers will move to, and for people to complain about.
The flow of tears will never stop. Just a new reason for why they flow.
Unless they completely redesign enemy AI and attack patterns, I doubt we’ll be saying goodbye to anything. And seeing how much work they have done to dungeons, I’m not expecting much to change.
But uh…the difficulty of PvP is directly determined by who you are fighting. The only way you could think PvP is easier than PvE is if you only ever fight people in PvP that are worse than you.
Its directly determined by how much SoloQ wants to f you over and give you dumb teammates.
Why is it that now all of a sudden stacking is an intrinsic part of the combat system that cannot be removed?
It’s not. People just choose to do it that way. So you can choose to make an lfg with no stacking. What’s the problem here?
No no. Stand in a line. and as the person in front of you dies, the next person steps up and fights. Come on guys. L2Play.
None of the above.
QFT
Well, I’ve never ran Cleric’s or anything that’s not zerker before, so I wouldn’t know.
Unless it’s clearly a speedrun, I don’t mind as long as people can carry their own weight.
Interesting video obal made comparing Whirling Wrath with same buffs to see the damage differences. The cleric to zerker difference is funny.
Spoiler alert, its like 40k difference between meta zerker and cleric AH lol.
Zerker = high risk and high reward (timewise)
Defensive stuff = low risk and low reward (timewise)Working as intended.
The problem with it is that Zerker doesn’t really offer high risk atm in GW2. Everything is able to be dodged, blocked, or reflected. If they actually had instances where you couldn’t avoid taking at least a few auto attacks I would agree.
For most pugs it seems to be high enough risk to scare them away from using it. I wished most people used zerker gear…. Its just not the case.
Each little bit helps, though.
Not when they take a 60%(pulled this number out my kitten , but cleric to zerker damage is huge) damage reduction to achieve that….
I only like Ranger’s when they’re using the proper things.
Spotter (gets me up to the 99% crit chance cap)
Frost Spirit. 7% extra damage is nice on top of all other damage boosts
Extra Fury/Blast Finisher Might from Warhorn.
Decent Vulnerability
and a Jungle Stalker for 5 stacks of party wide Might
This… And if a ranger joins my group with a bow equipped. They are insta booted.
I’m just wondering, have you ever posted something like “cof story, watching ALL cutscenes.”?
Just wondering if that might help.
This pretty much solves the OP’s problem…. I’d phrase it reversed though. “Watching all cutscenes, COF story.”
Well, what the OP is proposing might be a tad harsh, and has problems already described above.
My proposal, and this worked quite well in my Dungeons & Dragons campaign that lasted many a year, is to reduce the damage produced proportional to the square root of the overall health of the toon.
For example, if you’re at twenty-five percent health you would only produce fifty percent of your normal damage output. At fifty percent you would only produce seventy-one percent.. This would really scare the glass cannon builds since now you’re going to lose the dps race far, far more often. But it would encourage support and healing, and well-rounded players and teams.
Just my two cents.
Some issues with this. It won’t effect the top tier dungeon guilds, since they keep their scholar rune buffs majority of the time. This would only effect the people who complain about the meta. And would only cause less people to run zerker.
And for the record. If I don’t ask for gear check, 90% of pugs I run into aren’t even using zerker. So why do people feel the need to change stuff.
I’m sure Nemsis doesnt mind all these people coming to his video, im sure he made a pretty penny out of it.
Paranoid sentiment aside, he didn’t make any off me; gotta love adblock =]
<3 adblock. Feels so good.
Not watching the video, and waiting for people to describe the build feels even better <3 <3
Yea, I love my Guardian, but they are really broken in PvE. It’s easy to bring a max DPS spec that also brings all the utility you can want from a Guard. Not only are their utility skills so powerful, but the traits to lower the CDs of shouts and consecrations are both easy to pick up without losing nearly any damage.
I think guards are in a good spot. If they couldn’t bring all that utility, groups looking for optimal comps would leave them out. Since guards don’t bring offensive buffs like warriors, fat might stacking like eles and huge damage numbers like FGS, their only worth is in their defensive abilities. And defensive abilities beings Reflects/blinds/blocks(while doing good dps, but the dps is reliant on other classes buffing them with fury, banners and might).
I’d say Defiant is one of the biggest problems in dungeons, if Defiant would be removed you could actually support through, blinds, weakness, fear, interrupts and such, That would make support build a little stronger, not on par but stronger and it would make thief/necros atleast be wanted some more for interruptions, Hammer warriors would be something you could consider as well and so on.
That wouldn’t change the meta though. My zerker guard running 10/30/0/5/25 in full zerker, can do 5 blinds back to back, and even more if adds are killed to renew my VoJ. The zerker meta, still brings all the support you need. What people want however, is to wear PVT gear and face tank stuff.
Everyone has to start somewhere, and it would be very difficult for an inexperienced player to top the knowledge that’s been assembled over the past year by some of the top players. Benefit from their experience and learn to play the game well… then you can deviate and make your own educated playstyle decisions.
yes, knowledge is gained from experience, but the thing is this guy has videos of him 1v3ing using his builds and he wins…so one one side there is video proof of him succeeding with his builds and on the other side there are TONS of pro players saying it’s the worst build they’ve seen. I am so confused and torn as to what types of builds are good.
people are saying altruistic healing is horrible, but I don’t see any reason why and I would personally use it in game. but if it truly is bad then I shouldn’t run it. I need to know why people say it’s bad.
AH is bad is certain situations. In large zerging, it is the go to thing, since you get all kinds of heals by spamming boons to allies.
And as far as doing well in WvW roaming, there are videos of people killing others naked. So WvW highlights can be really hard to gather any useful info from. You will learn in time what builds just aren’t worth your time. Keep researching and get a better idea of things, until you can form your own opinion.
Just because its the highest DPS doesnt make it the best gear. If it was the best gear we wouldnt have other options and all gear would be zerker.
My cleric guardian doesnt do much dps at all but I keep my party alive. There is more to the game than DPS, to say otherwise is ignorant.
Mother of God… I thought this was a troll post since I often joke in party chat about cleric guardian being OP. But please baby Jesus, save my soul from having to read such a vile post….
To say a cleric guardian keeps me alive is ignorant. I’ll tell you what keeps me alive. Blinds/Reflects/Aegis(blocking)/Dodging/CC. It is definitely not a guard dodge roll healing me for 1k HP.
In my circle we call it the pug roulette. I plan to make a video with commentary sometime, hilarity always ensues when I get the angry whispers.
I think all circles call it that. Then you get angry person telling me how they have over 500 arah tokens and I’m dumb for kicking them!
Never heard the phrase “To get booted”. Or “boot the bearbow ranger”. This is what happens when English isn’t everyone’s first language. Jokes like this aren’t understood… Oh well.
Its Zerker*
Whenever I shrink the UI like that, my Black lion interface gets all messed up. :/
Really?! Really?! So if I try and advance my fractal lvl you all are going to kick me cause im basicly all celecstial apart from my weapon and traits..
Wit dat 1.6k power? I’ll show you what my group will give you.
Dont forget damage modifiers. They are better than crit damage. Which is why dps guard has no points in crit damage traitline.
But Ah has such high crit damage. It brings da dps!
From what I heard, they want people to make suggestions in the sub-forums most related to the area of the game. I’m not sure how useful that will be in the long-run though; it’ll be better in the sense that it will foster more discussion from players interested in that game’s aspect, but having suggestions spread out across the forums may make it harder to keep track of them, especially on sub-forums that are very fast-moving.
I’ll quote myself from another thread:
We want people to make suggestions in the sub-forums which make sense for their ideas. As example, if you have an idea about sPvP, you can and should post it in the sPvP sub-forum.
The development teams are very excited about this change.
So you are actually going to venture into the Dungeon forum, aside from people reporting posts?
Lol why would you assume he didnt put his requirements in the lfg description. Wtf is this logic.
….Not everyone uses LFG tags/descriptives when pugging…
Read much?
I’m going to wager if someone spends time posting on forums about disliking bads, then they probably spend time to be descriptive in LFG. But maybe that’s just too radical to assume.

This is interesting what this thread has derailed to.
Yesterday I bought an Arah path and ended up soloing Brie on my own because the seller was bad.
Didn’t get my money back either.
Lols.
If you enjoy buying P1. You should totally add me. Funny random story, when I was selling p3, some dude sent me 60 gold by accident lol. That guy is lucky he did that to me and not some scumbag.
To not derail too much!
I died the most learning CoE for whatever reason. It seemed like, when a stack failed there vs silver mobs, I’d insta drop on my 11k hp guard :O
Fourth Worst: Cleric Guards in dungeons
0th worst: bow bears anywhere.
I prefer bearbows though. They are easier to spot, so I can kick on sight. Sometimes Cleric guards enter using a GS, and I can’t tell they are clerics until later in the dungeon. They are like HIV, where as bearbows are like Ebola. Both kill you, but one isn’t as detectable until its been inside longer.
Fourth Worst: Cleric Guards in dungeons
puttin a 25% speed increase that high up in zeal practically makes the zeal line a MUST have and narrows down build diversity.Guardian needs that movement speed either as a signet or a very low tier trait.
For what WvW?
What is your point? I added scholar runes and I put what he suggested to get the numbers I quoted. He wanted to know how bad his damage will be effected, and I think I answered that quite well. He actually wants advice on a good build. So I’m helping him out.
The OP’s link lacks upgrades, hence the lack of apparent stats. That’s what I was referring to. I apologize if that was confusing.
I know. And My post was clarifying that I first added to his original build, by just adding the proper runes, and jewels he was missing. Then I changed it.
So I compared a complete build of his and complete build that I suggested.
@OP, I’m glad you are seeing the benefits of this build. If you have any questions on specific details of how to play it, feel free to ask. Also any dungeon specifically, I can help with what skills to bring and what not.
I suggest you ask Scion Storm Gaming and Nemesis or whatever his name is because they. Are good and really know how. To play
Yup Nemesis is filled with good info. just checkout his guardian build:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Discussion-about-Nemisis-Smite-Build/first#post3463167
His link doesn’t include upgrades of any kind. Runes, sigils, food, etc.
What is your point? I added scholar runes and I put what he suggested to get the numbers I quoted. He wanted to know how bad his damage will be effected, and I think I answered that quite well. He actually wants advice on a good build. So I’m helping him out.
@OP
And to your question about the virtues. Don’t go deeper that 25. That’s the sweet spot. You are better off with Right hand strength or Superior Aria.
Well BG is always packed with temple farmers. I’m in DB, and its packed too. Had 40 some people doing Melandru beacon pre yesterday.
Toughness and vitality are loved in WvW and PvP. There you go. That’s why it exists. Anet doesn’t seem good at making AI to play nice with the stats. But going against other human, it shines. So blame Anet’s coding for this. I just accept the truth.
33% crit damage and 35% crit chance is painfully low for PVE. The usual recommended route for people to learn is Knight armor with zerker trinkets. Something like this. I also moved traits around with 10 unspent, so you can see the basis of a dps build. The last 10 is dependent on what you need. I’d recommend for starting out to go 10 into honor, for vigor and shout reduction. Oh and focus is superior to shield. Check out lower linked guide for more details.
Read this guide for more in depth look:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE/first
I’ve always hated sanctuary. The cool down is painfully long, and I always laugh at enemies who use it, since I pop stability, and my team walks right into the bubble and kicks the crap out of the dude inside.
Also when fighting in the graveyard, purging flames radius doesn’t seem all that sufficient, where opposed to SY, I have 600 yard radius to grab condi. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
This discussion is all good food for thought, when deciding what skills to run.
I dont think party needs more precision mainly because everyone is already full zerker spamming perma fury and likely over 70% base crit rate. T
70% base crit chance in zerker gear…. With statistics like that, I can’t understand why people don’t listen to you.
I like SY. It can remove all conditions from your team. So if you are doing what a bunker guard should do, and in all the team fights. You can really turn the tide of a battle if 2 or 3 of your teammates are swapped with condi bombs.
I don’t know what you’re talking about “running naked” but I’ll let it go.
No one here is suggesting that pug …. Noobs(?) … Should melee Lupicus in a party on their own or at all until they know the way to do it. But proclaimed dungeon masters and those who claim to be masters at the dungeon in question should know how to get through Lupicus quickly and efficiently.
Melee’ing with pugs who range is a new challenge I do for myself. Its like if lupi now has little adds that make him into a Bubblepotimus. As well as lupi kites away from me as he teleports/walks to his little adds to give them gentle pats on the back.
@Kyubi. I can’t tell if you are a troll… Adding dungeon master to your sig makes me think you are… But some people may think that is an accomplishment… Hmm…
Make tomes of knowledge buyable with fractal relics/laurels/dungeon tokens. I have a buttload of those lying around.
And dungeon tokens :O
http://prntscr.com/2h96wg – stats
Oh my god… That is terrible. Your attack is almost equal to my power…. This is why people think guards have crap dps.. Please don’t advocate this as a do it all kind of build. This is pure Loot Bag WvW build.
Just general Tips:
#1: Have 2 different builds. 1 for WvW and 1 for PVE. Mixing is bad.
#2: For PVE build advice go here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE/first
#3: For WvW you have the general idea for Zerg play. Which is load up on tankiness, and be able to support while taking a but load of damage. Some one else will help more with what to change for WvW.
13k-14k hps = I solo roam just for video’s or have a full team for support.
What about, WvW zerging is boring. So I solo roam for fun when I don’t feel like doing real PvP?
For tank – Guardian
Warrior is good but you can’t heal yourself constantly like a guard. I use cleric stats on my guard (Power, Tough, Heal Power), my damage sucks but tanking and providing big heals is good can’t imagine playing a guard differently.
If you do crappy damage, you’re lowering your group’s average dps, therefore making the fight last longer. If you go full zerker you won’t survive as long but you also won’t need to because the fight will finish faster. That’s why people say (and complain) that in GW2 berserker is king.
This thread is about WvW. You are talking about dungeon runs. Zerker is not king in WvW zerging.
Always open the dungeon yourself. That way if people want to act awful they’ll either shoot themselves in the foot if you’re kicked or you’ll have the ability to take the dungeon progress away from them and the friends they invite by simply leaving to force them to start over.
Bingo
Totally agree , every character ive made ends up been offensive. there no mechanics or need for a defensive person in a pve point of view.
So… I have one question.
What mechanics are you talking about here? You have blocks, blinds, dodges, stuns, knockbacks and skills that grant invulnerability.
PS: Not fully directed at you but also towards all who claim to want to play defensive characters. Quoting you because you put out the idea that there is a lack of mechanics for defensive play.
PPS: Really curious, hence question.
Let me explain to you when people say “defensive” in this game. They mean they want to run PVT or Clerics gear, and be able to face tank enemies by way of Toughness and Vitality(with some healing).
People who run Zerker gear, know that defensive means using active skills such as Reflects/Blinds or Interrupts/Aegis/Dodges(In that order). And if you have ways to mitigate full damage, then why bring pvt?
To answer OP’s question. I’d kick you for those Soldier runes. If you had Scholar runes, Full zerker trinkets and weapons. With 3 zerker armor and 3 knight armor. I’d let you stay, but I would assume you aren’t very good and would keep a close eye on you.(I’m very tough on other guards, since I love the class so much).
^ This guy is trying too hard to be an elitist.
PUG arah for two months every day p1-3, then come talk to me about not being elitist. The things you run into in PUG land will change anyone.
He’s not really trying. When you party with him and know what you’re doing, you appreciate the elitism. He’s saved me several headaches when some horrible PUG joins and other carebears don’t have the heart to kick them.
Also, it blocked hard because of the word you used after it =)
Thank you for the kind words. And nice catch lol. I didn’t really read it again to myself. But I see now what they were censoring.
If i make ascended armor my fat norn will look like old elvis who is wearing ten size too small spandex, but i endure it so everybody can see that i have made ascended armor.
Do not do it lol. I was roaming with a buddy when I saw a commander guard norn wearing full ascended…. We laughed so hard…. Its bad, real bad.
