If PVE > WvW for you. Then go zerker! I have 5 ascended zerker weapons for my guardian. Couldn’t be happier. If I need a weapon specifically for WvW, I usually settle for exotic since I change my weapons like candy in WvW to try different things. But in PVE, it is ALWAYS zerker. Just my 2 cents. I have used Valkyrie, Cleric, Zerker, and Knights in different phases of my WvW career. Point is….. Builds are more diverse in WvW so expect those to change a lot. Unlike PVE where zerker is king.
When(if ever) I run hammer I generally run this build:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZTPyt1BknU
But moving 10 from virtues to radiance for the boost on damage might be nice. When I run hammer, its mostly for fun. Sometimes even a 25/25/0/20/0 <— With Bane Signet. This build is purely for fun of course(AC or CoF). I would never bring a 25/25/0/20/0 build into a real run.
It sounds like you just want a pat on the the back. So pats back. Congrats on build.
Solid Build. Only thing I’d change is unscathed contender to Master of Consecrations. I also would never run Bane Signet in dungeons unless I was like in AC or COF just for some Lawls. Other than that, the build is good. Just lack condi removal, but swapping out bane signet for a condition removal skills fixes that.
1.)Random Mob spawn placement.
2.)Give Lupicus Dual Swords
3.)Add Gambits
Your traits do no synergise with your weapons at all. This build looks pretty bad, and here is why:
Honor VIII requires you crit to give might. Which means you want to be attacking at a high rate to give that might out. Problem is, the Hammer AA chain is slow which doesn’t gel with the might on crit. GS AA is just bad, so no reason to use it for any stretch of time. You are better off going VII Writ of Persistence to do more damage with that hammer.
Ok…. I just realized you want this for both WvW/PvE and don’t want to be useless. But I can’ make this build really work. Its kind of a mess in my eyes. That above snippet I began to write was about dungeons fyi.
I link Boons way too much. But people keep asking lol.

All props to Boons, I just copy his build.
As a Guardian you are very versatile, you can do a good amount of damage, you can gear yourself offensively and still have plenty of defense from blocks, dodges/vigor, and blinds. We aren’t pigeon holed into healers or support so strap on your berserker gear if you like. We have excellent melee AOE with staffs, GS and hammer as well as single targets with Sword, Mace, and scepter. Range isn’t our strongest point but we can get the job done if the situation warrants.
The most important thing about Guardians is damage prevention not restoration. We have access to AOE projectile reflects and absorb, group stability, AOE condition removal options, and a couple of ways to give group blocks. These skills if applied at the right time make the difference between a party wipe and a total win.
This guys has it right. We protect through our skills, not through tanky/healy/crappy armor.
If you block for your team, apply reflects, and give team stability when needed. Then you are playing as a Guardian in my eyes. Blinds and Condi removal are just icing on the cake. The beauty of all that, is you can bring those things while wearing full zerker and actually doing damage!
Torch is used in WvW burst builds.(some burst builds not all). Sword/Focus Sceptor/Torch is what I’m using at the moment. Torch #4 when used with sceptor is like throwing a fireball. Knida nice, and no DPS loss, infact that’s a dps increase with 10 in zeal.
End game warrior has no problems. They can do PVE, WvW solo roam, WvW zerg, and other things you want to dominate at. Guardians can do all those, but are lacking in some departments. If I had to recommend to my friend which class, I’d say definitely go warrior.
I however am a professional guardian, and that’s what I do
Well, that’s no ordinary rabbit. That’s the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!
THIS RESPONSE IS ONLY FOR SOLO ROAMING:
Your build doesn’t look very bursty. Your damage will be consistent DoT it appears. And without condi clearing, I don’t know if you will outlast with this build. If you met me, and you were running that, I believe this build I run will have you dead before I take very much damage from yours.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29-F975Lqek
The reason I question the burst damage, is you have no heavy hitter. Generally the focus 5 is a nice burst combined with a second strike from another weapon.
Also you have the staff on swap. How often will you put this on? I feel like your dps dropoff in a 1v1 will be huge. Or do you use a different fighting wep for solo roaming?
Scholar runes give their damage bonus only when you’re above 90% health.
Small, trickle heals help ensure that you stay above 90% health.
AH gives small, trickle heals.
Therefore, AH helps enhance your damage if you use Scholar runes.
Just a run a 10/30/30/0/0 AH build. That will actually bring good damage. Of course you lost reductions to shouts and consecrations, which is a pretty big hit on our utility. But go for it. Have all kinds of fun.
Go bump this thread in suggestions and add your story there. Devs don’t exactly read this forum lol.

Try fighting that warrior build….
This is the one that is a pain in the kitten

(last off topic post)
You pug too much. I only pugged that day because my friend and I needed p1, while the rest of my usual arah runners were busy. Anyhow, at least the rest of the run went quick.
Oh my bad. I am not boons. I just run his build. Sorry if I gave the impression that was my build. I just use it to the best of my abilities. I intend to upload videos that I have recorded, but will give credit to boons!
Man I ran arah p1 with you a couple of days ago. I was the dude who called you out for pushing lupi in phase 3 and causing him to bubble. I remembered you, because I never seen someone willing take 5x longer to solo the second bosses on p1.(Gave me a good laugh though)
The build in that video is discussed here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29-F975Lqek
You can skip around the vid to see the traits
EDIT: I was about to say you linked a ranger build lol. Nice edit.

Warrior = no regrets end game. Other classes have weaknesses here or there.
Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sxrPoXdtZM
Not to derail the thread, but do you play a warrior with COE helmet and a 3ish word length name?
And where is the condi removal coming from? 10 second passives I take it or have to bring meditaions(or purging flames)? This build doesn’t seem to noob friendly. Requires a lot of skill swapping to specific situations.
Something like Knights Gear, with soldier runes, zerker trinkets and a build of x/x/x/30/10 will be very noob friendly. PoV+Soldier Runes will remove 2 condi’s per shout. The soldier runes will add some HP and toughness. Knight’s armor will allow you to take take 1 more hit from mobs. The zerker trinkets, will ensure you aren’t a complete wet noodle.
Then once you learn the class, you move to a all zerker build with scholar runes, with a heavier emphasis in damage in traits, while still bringing at least x/15/x/10/10.(for dungeons)
(edited by Cat Has Ducks.1982)
Build was 10 10 30 10 10.
The focus of this build was on consecrations and F1 resets so that its available much
When you say F1 resets, are you referring to FoJ renewed on mob kill? If so that requires 15 in Radiance. If not, then I’m not sure what you mean here.
so you would recommend travelers for my wvw set and scholar for my zerk set?
Yes. This is good. Exactly what I do.(although I pug sometimes with Travelers in Zerker set just too feel the speed :p)
People always whisper me to bring sexy back.
Running the build seen in boon’s video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSTe9PxId3s
I rarely lose 1v1’s. Be it, the general skill across WvW players is not very high. But, I have learned that the best way to counter any type of class, is to burn em down quick and cause them to pop all their tricks early, just to keep from being bursted down.
Also me and my guard friend run this same build, and win 2v2’s, 2v3’s and 2v4’s all the time. When my condi warrior friend joins us, we can do 3v6’s, 3v7’s by targeting the key members in a group and bursting them down at the start of the fight. Caution, to run this build, you better know the guardian class like the back of your hand. It is not a tanky build, you must be crafty once you pass the early phase of the fight.
(edited by Cat Has Ducks.1982)
Oh. WvW and PvP is completely different. I was speaking of PVE in reference to whats his name up there. WvW I run a burst build for solo roaming. 10/30/30/0/0. I hate zerging, but I know thats a different build too. Guess I should have clarified. And people always say “PVE is easy”, but then they can’t melee Lupi or Do high level fractals. Whats up with that?
1 Aegis on a 48 second cd? Come on =P
Aegis through Virtue and Retreat gives you two quick blocks. Really only need to use blocks for any given bosses’ 1 hard hit. Blocking through a time warp lets your party not worry about dodging, and just do max dps in that window. So blocking is very powerful, when used correctly.
Also the guards blinds should not be taken lightly, it can burst down many silver mobs without taking any damage due to blocks and blinds.
I don’t get people who don’t want to play to guard’s strengths. If we don’t. then we end up as a second rate warrior. I prefer to not do that. Also stop saying a 10/30/0/10/20 build is crap dps. Running Zerker Gear with Scholar Runes keeps the output nice and high. Also the 20 in virtues gives higher passive HP regen, which synergizes with scholar runes by keeping that hp above 90% with more ease.
Soloing is, duo’ing might make him moves into a bad distance to you and bubble you for apparently “no reason”.
Well if both stay close to him, then one starts moving slowly away, you see what happens next. Then the guy who is further away doesn’t move. See if bubbles happen. Then while he is far away, have the close guy start moving around like a salmon stuck on dry land.
Then if no bubbles, have the both players start moving around, if no bubbles. Return to neutral.
Have the outer guy start drifting more, then start moving test again. If the inner guy never causes a reaction, then you know its distance. Just my thought on testing.
Besides walls/blocks and some boons (namely protection)
Walls, Blocks, and Stability is our main assets. How can you say besides that lol. If a guardian isn’t bringing those, then what the heck are they bringing? Might as well go warrior and bring more Vulnerability, and offensive buffs like 8 second fury.
I say again, if you aren’t bringing the 3 I mentioned above, a warrior offensive buffs and burst damage are superior. You bring a guard for Aegis blocking, Blocks(and blinds), and Stability when needed. This DOES not mean you should trait your guard to be a Trash support class. You can trait damage heavy while bringing these basic things with just 10 points in honor and 10 points in virtues. Then you can go hogwild with the other crap.
I did a 10 min guardian solo, permanently moving, getting zero bubbles. Aswell as i’ve been standing still and getting bubbles. It’s absolutely only based on distance, including distance coming from z-axis, though!
I need to test this more too… Duo’ing might be the easiest way to test different situations. When my Duo partner gets on, I shall check out some stuff.
just posting this question here so i dont have to make a new topic:
In phase 1 is there a way to minimize the amount of swarms that spawn. They usually f me up during phase 1 and in the beginning of phase 2.
For melee’ing, just keep moving around from one side to the other, in like a mini oval in front of him. As you do this, keep attacking him. Your cleave will kill the locusts as you are hitting him. The constant movement will keep the locust from being able to attack you.
Your circle movement doesn’t have to be ridiculous, just keep moving as you attack him, and cleave the locust down at the same time.
For WvW they pro for roaming. Will help you not be kited around like a slow kitten. For PVE the speed is nice just for speed sakes, but they don’t offer better utility than Scholar Runes. Just make you feel fast! Caution Once you go traveler runes, it is hard to give up the speed. You’ve been warned.
It only doesn’t make sense to you Flop…. This mechanic is everywhere in GW2. Certain mobs do certain attacks if you do certain things. Lupi’s Green TerriDome anyone!?
Welp….. I have a lot of practice to do….
Not really…. Its an enemy that punishes you if you aren’t willing to go toe-to-toe with her. Like that champ graveling right after her. It only burrows if you range it…. Enemies have mechanics, and you just work with them.
If you’d like to continue on your next example I shall help you out again.
I’m talking about phase 2/3’s lupine blast (single projectile that usually misses in melee range).
Well, i would let you guess some more but since flood control sucks and i’m tired:
He has three different single bolt attacks. One is with his right hand, “swinging” from behind, throwing the projectile. Second one is left hand, holding it over you head and then getting some kind of pushback on it when he releases the bolt. And the “swing” from behind with the left hand.Could also ask how often shadowstep hits, what the attack is called, or which hand first indicates the p3 frenzied blast. Very little players know the answer, because it isn’t really important.
Interesting. I guess I have not dissected lupis left hand to that degree.(also I melee him, so that attack isn’t really a problem.)
I prefer to ask the hand slap question, because I expect people who join to melee him as well. I hate chasing lupi as he shadow steps to the dude at 1200 range. The hand slap is still very much a player in melee if you don’t pay attention.
Another decent question I ask is which leg he kicks with in P1, since knowing that is common knowledge for lupi meleers.
Guardian has vigor, i do lupicus without any energy sigils. They help quite a lot if you wasted a dodge, though.
I have trouble if I don’t use both. Wait, we talking in a group or solo? Group melee I don’t need em, but solo I may be too nooby to do it without
What class are you?
What special things do you bring for the melee?
Example: Guards need energy sigils on both weapons to get the extra dodge.
What build you run?
You can just run up to her to do the same thing, are you aware of this? Its just more difficult to coordinate puggers to do this in the open.
Is that what you call his left hand green throw in Phase 2? Or is this a joke… I don’t know terminology of attacks other than what my friends and I call stuff. For example we call that sniping if you are referring to the left hand single shot.
The spider still slaps you. The point of stacking is so she doesn’t do AOE attacks. Which she only does if you are out of range of her melee attacks. So rather than coordinate to stay super close to her, instead bring her super close to a stack spot.
You know you aren’t invulnerable there right?
You could stack any where as long as she is in melee range. You sound like you are complaining just to complain.

Stacking is not Exploiting.
Stacking is Stacking. Nothing more, nothing less.
If there is a way to exploit a boss to do no damage, then call that exploiting the boss. Don’t make the two words into being the same.
/rant over
I wouldn’t mind a new heavy class. Diversify my PUG runs more.
Ah I see. So I’m guessing this like a pure damage build? like a 10/30/30 build?
You sir get to stay :p
I should add too. For leveling do whatever the heck you want. Only when you start doing dungeons should you start trying to get an idea of where you should be headed. Until then, experiment.
@Countzu what is a Dungeon Mediation build these days?
I’ve started quizzing people. If I put “experienced” in the title, I will ask them a question about the path.
Like for arah, I ask “Which hand does Lupi melee with”. If they don’t respond quickly or correctly, they get the boot!
A hammer build, focusing on protection from your symbol on auto attack chain will be good. Plus using blocks with Retreat and your Virtue will save teammates. Going 15 in Radiance will allow you to spam blinds, which will completely negate an entire hit from a mob.
As far as elite skills, when you get to 80 you will rarely not use Renewed Focused. It is our best and our only real option.
Check out Brazil’s Hammer Guide.
