My ranger instantly stacks 20 bleeds. With a longbow. And it does 33% more damage than normal bleeds. Why is my necro so much more meh?
How is WvW relevant?
Wars and thieves in s1 were garbage = that is definition of bottom tiers. Once again, necros are not even remotely there.
Because people play WvW for PvP, and the main difference is that you don’t fight in circles. Next time you play PvP, be relentless to any necro you see. It works quite well. They can’t do anything about it.
PvP is not balanced around wvw, frankly game is no balanced around wvw. It is completely different environment, so there is no point bringing it up.
Once again, it depends how good necro is and how good his teammates are. I play thief – which is necros worst nightmare, yes i do focus them but no way i can kill one with support.
Honestly, what do you want people? Invuls, perma prot, blocks, insane heals, high dmg and high moblity? iWin button also?
We have none of those, so any of them would go a long ways.
I feel like we’ve returned to the pre hot necro that died fast and accomplished relatively little. I’d really like to see improvements soon.
Why was terrormancer never fixed? A few merges of redundant traits would have made it work again.
Why were our heals never buffed? They all suck now. I’ve seriously considered switching to the Human racial heal.
Why is deathly chill still awful? There’s no reason to spec for chill anymore. 1 stack of bleed is just so bad. We don’t even have a trait like the ranger one that makes bleeds stronger.
What happened to torment? We never got more torment outside scepter 3.
Why are we so slow? The next slowest class can still close a 2400 unit gap in a few seconds. We can’t even cast our teleport faster than we can walk to the same location.
No active defense? This doesn’t even make sense flavor-wise
But boon corrupt? Boon builds are great at cleansing condis now, so we’re not even anti meta in that regard.
Honestly, I don’t know why everyone thinks Necro is a free kill, or even weak. I like to roam/havoc with mine when I’m not on my mesmer, and I do very well. Most of the encounters I have I win, unless I get outnumbered or ambushed while taking a camp. When I get those encounters where I can’t -win-, I either stall the enemies for a very long time, or just slowly but surely get away.
I can understand the stalling part somewhat as they can be very good meat shields. But “slowly but surely get away” ???
You must have other Necros chasing you.
Well, I certainly don’t out run anyone, but some people end up just giving up and turn away.
I find that I survive best when I stand behind small ledges and los my name tag.

I am not playing that kamikaze build, just normal condis with wells if they have too many dhs and condi wars. Ofc i get focused 24/7 but i make sure enemy pays for it dearly.
They actually stand in your AoE? When I’m on my druid, only good necromancers even land a hit. I can easily shut them down with 1 well placed cc though. Necromancer is totally helpless if you interrupt them while they’re healing.
Every other class has better survivability and mobility than their pre hot counterparts. Necromancer recieved tiny improvements that were either nerfed or are completely meaningless because everyone else got bigger buffs in those areas. We deserve more than mediocre dps and lots of hp!Yeah they do stand in it because either it is on the point or they are all trying to kill me so i drop everything at my feet. Necros got great upgrade with HoT, idk what you are talking about. I think new shroud is way stronger than core one (stability, hard stun with chill field, whirling axe, gap closer + blind). Forgot season 2? No. Necromancer was viable in WvW then. More stability, good damage, more damage reduction, more chill, not dependent on bleed… It was a different class. Now it has come full circle to where it was pre hot.

Guardian f1 into hammer circle followed by banish, gravity well, thunderclap, basilisk venom, and point blank shot.
I’m gonna use WvW roaming to put into perspective why Necromancer is a sad mess
Revenant dies to any condi class, but it has amazing mobility, damage, and it can nulify focus fire.
Ele is a diverse beast. I’ve even seen staff eles that can 1vX and win.
Mesmer is very strong. It can use power to one shot or it can play one of the cheesiest builds ever.
Thief is good. It has a lot of mobility and evades. If power doesn’t work, Thief has access to two different condition builds that play themselves.
Warriors are unstoppable gods if they rub the right stuff
Guardian can invuln for extended periods of time, teleport, and hit like a truck with power or condi
Engi is less effective now, but it’s still a very good bruiser.
Druid is the undisputed king of small scale WvW right now
And then there is necro. Even in full dire, Necromancer lasts 10 seconds in a fight against multiple foes. During those 10 seconds the necro will be thrown all over the place by cc, rendering it useless. Necromancer cannot even hope to run around without a babysitter, because it cannot 1vX, and it has a poor matchup against druid, who can blow up a necromancer without ever being in danger.
Necromancer is capable of winning, but it only wins specific scenarios, and it cannot escape death, so it is bottom tier. Master of dying =/= Master of death

Honestly, I hate the idea of removing sta combos, because they never go back and make balance changes for WvW when they do that, so everything is still insane.
Isnt blood mostly water? Why not make well of blood a water field?
It makes too much sense. Also, we have no finishers outside staff 4 because Death Shroud.

I used to love my Necromancer, but we’re such a joke now that we’re literally free bags if we aren’t behind allies or a wall.
We’re passable 1v1, but as soon as the situation scales up, we immediately get focused and die. There’s no way around that. As a roamer and someone who likes to run in havocs, the rule of any fight is to target the Necromancer first. Not because Necromancers are dangerous, they’re much less threatening than many other specs. We target Necromancer first because Necromancer dodges twice (3 times with energy sigil) and then has to take all of our damage. The Necromancer is too slow to do anything. It can’t even get into melee with us if it’s allies aren’t pinning us down.
We can still win 1v1s, but we are often a liability in anything bigger than a 2v2 that isn’t a zerg.
In comparison, my hybrid ranger has 16000 hp and 2500 armor, and she has more damage, range, mobility, and survivability than a Necromancer. The only thing my Necromancer does better is corrupting boons. That’s it. This ranger build isn’t even among the best condition builds, and it is blatantly superior to Necromancer.
Lastly, I am offended that we’re “performing well” in every game mode when the commonly expressed opinion is that we’re just scrubbing by. This isn’t just a small issue. People are quitting the game over this. Money is being lost. Necromancer jokes are being made. Please address this.
Being able to buy best food for any currency is a bad idea, ruins the economy.
Siege, maybe.
The economy of pay to win consumables? Honestly, the economy on those food items is already busted.
Trick question. Hybrid druid with bleed on crit is the way to go. Very fun build, I love playing it even when I’m sucking.
Marks are good for making the thief think twice about shadowstepping into you. The thief generally will not know which mark you used as long as it wasn’t the #3 mark, so if he dodges through your mark of blood and tries to attack you, you can punish him. The only thief you can’t beat is one that plays perfectly, which is maybe one per server, and even then they won’t be perfect every time.
I don’t think they should stop giving us tomes, because new players will want them. However, I think us veteran players need a way to spend our excess.
I didn’t say stop them completly, I just said stop giving us so many.
We’d still slowly build a massive stash of tomes no matter what. It would just take longer, and some of us are already at that point.
It’s ok, he will buff shatterstone damage by 5% on your thief too.
Currently, the cast time basically begs for an interrupt, and everyone has at least died from the second condi tick while using this heal. With the amount of condi burst in the game now, I think that the longer cast time of the heal is detrimental to its purpose.
Since this is our only heal skill that isn’t basement tier bad, and it was double nerfed for flavor purposes, I think this buff is more than justified.
Also, we have other heal skills. They exist, I’m not joking. Love us ;-;
It would be interesting to see the numbers to justify this, but it’s more fun for them to just let us think that JQ is the Necromancer of WvW servers.

I can make an entire Tengu army with Tomes of Knowledge now, and I play less than many people.
I think Tomes of Knowledge + Badges should be tradable for the best foods. It is a little bit more difficult to acquire than the food that is a tier below it, but I think it will help WvW. It creates a play to win way to get the food that makes certain builds broken like Mussels Gnashblade. The fact that I need to pay exorbitant prices for 30 minute consumables to be relevant is disgusting.
Also, Superior siege. It is expensive. We are poor. We need it. Paper siege is almost useless. More currencies for siege = happy WvWers. Make it unsellable like the WvW food so that it doesn’t blow up the market.
This last patch was a really tiny patch for “quarterly” balance. I wish there would’ve been more changes. There’s literally dozens of traits, runes, sigils, and skills that are extremely lackluster.

I am testing a Corruption/Devastation/Herald Toaming build using Sw/Sw with Mallyx and Glint, slowly piecing the gear together using Mara and Commanders
Sounds like it has 1 stunbreak. Not sure it will fare well.
Spite does almost no damage and people cleanse it really fast. It also has a huge tell. Epidemic is very situational. Plague does no damage, and you can now get easily inmobilized and cc’ed through it, which will make you die. Offhand dagger is really slow but has an extra transfer and an AoE. Warhorn provides swiftness, life force, and an interrupt. Both are ok.
Necro isn’t going to be killing boon heavy comps for you in WvW, because they can cleanse and boon spam faster than you corrupt. If you want to run necro, your team needs to be prepared to babysit you.
I vote for buffing everything else. Necromancers have the right to be good.
We are “fairing quite well” so obviously all we need is a dark, agnsty theme and the ability to mildly punish boon stacking the way we melt like a vet mob in core PvE is just symbolism for how far the game has come.
To be fair, there has only been ONE change made purely for the needs of PvE in the entire history of GW2, and that was the FGS nerf.
Every single other balance pass has been based on PvP or WvW.

Pre nerf, you could use #4 (with no target) into a wall and it would cause a bunch of fiery fields to pop in the same spot, causing any stacked foe to melt in seconds.
That was a buggy burst option in WvW too. It was nerfed for all gamemodes
Um could you like halve the damage while you’re at it? These don’t need to hit so hard.

Condi necros are known as cheesy. Principally chill spam ones.
That pertains more to condi than necro. Condi necro is still one of the least cheesy condi classes that doesn’t suck. Our chill uptime and damage were both cut in half, and perplexity was nerfed, so we can’t even exploit that.
What about a primer that costs 20-50s each time you use it? It would be amazing for expensive food but it would keep food from dropping below a certain price point. Why should food be expensive anyways? It’s kinda ptw when the food is insane like mussels gnashblade

WvW Necro is fairing very well. Death is our core theme, so naturally we should be the best at dying, right?
So we know of a potential elite spec with a “sand shroud” and a torch.
What do you want from Scourge?
I want
-a shroud that allows utility usage
-smoke fields and blast finishers
-a new type of utility that helps us escape pressure
-powerful AoE from torch and shroud
-stability
-something other than bleed as a main source of damage
-condi application on shroud skills that lacked it before
-life force generation from torch
-something crazy and awesome that nobody expects
I think there might be more, but I’m not sure because this is profession balance, and we can only have a small handful of changes every 3 months, apparently.
I want more balance patches. I don’t play sPvP seasons, and the pace at which QoL for Necromancer changes, I’ll retired by the time we can see utility cooldowns in shroud.
In WvW, we rock in zergs because perma swiftness from others + aoe, but we are literal bottom tier in small scale because we have no mobility and instantly die when focused.
But apparently we’re doing fine. It’s like they told the Necromancer forum to l2p
Most of the great necromancers I know quit from frustration over balance or swapped classes to something that isn’t mediocre in everything bar WvW zergs.
GS is kind of scary if you can touch your opponent. It’ll give a lot more melee pressure too.

Burn Guardian is cool. Necromancer requires a lot of support. Condi ele is good 1v1. Condi mesmer is satan. Condi warrior is ok.
I’m in a havoc guild on JQ. Our population of roamers and havoc recently increased by quite a bit thanks to [love] transferring from yb.
[foxy] is the guild that I’m in. We focus more on scouting and havoc than roaming. I think we’re pretty good at what we do.
Druids are a pretty terrible matchup for necro. You may do better if you’re power tho.

I think they were responding to people complaining about how they balance with a giant hammer, so now they tried balancing with a tiny mallet.
This feels like more of a mid-season hotfix than a patch. Can we get something more meaningful? There are so many traits and skills in this game that need love. Us players send so many suggestions too. Some of them are good. Please take more of our suggestions.

I don’t play PvE. That sucks.
They really missed the mark on Necromancer. Doing well across all gamemodes? We are the worst class in small scale WvW and medicore in PvP because we have no survivability.
Buffing our damage just puts us further into this high damage but no mobility or defense issue. I’m not really upset with the changes that were made, but it’s so incremental that I feel like we were misled about the size of this balance patch.
It’s mandatory in small scale WvW to get actual usage out f your shroud. Without it, you just get kited until your shroud runs out or you drop it. Then you get cc’ed and bursted.
