google “captain hammer gw2”.. thats the right build for hammer/shouts imho. nice vid too.

Its a bunker build in every sense of the word, you AE heal and AE remove conditions as well as group buff and have amazing CC. In group play that build is a monster.

Take that build and roam with another DPS!

But solo it takes months to kill anything :/

OP: I don’t have a vid but back in beta some one from Team Paradigm put together a Warrior 1h healing build that wrecked people, its as tanky as D/D and dose some good damage as the off set was Axe+Axe or something of the sort. It can be done, it just wont be with a DPS weapon or build.

Epidemic 'Bug' or Anet Broke It?

I played my Necro for the first time Since Oct today and decided to round up some mobs and use Epidemic, like usual, except this time Epidemic missed a couple of mobs -out of a total of 3.

I tested further, two mobs about 600 apart, Epidemic did not hit!

So, what constitutes ‘…all nearby foes’ these days?

Honestly I am disgusted, utterly disgusted at this change, I understand the change was needed seeing how the ability was being used in WvW, but to completely gut the ability for PvE players just trying to kill some mobs?

The above one is a build he coined ‘Defensive Necro Build’ and I’d like to hear from you guys what you think of the build, seems solid to me with one exception being Signet, I think it sucks and I’d use Blood is Power for the Might!

I just started playing with necro in sPvP (making my way through all the professions. Necro and mesmer are what I have left) and I’ve been running a Power/crit well build with staff and scepter/dagger.

The build I’m using I found while watching some vids from Tokyomurai:

It’s got some crazy damage and is great on points like keep and clock tower.

SB + GS (Moment of Clarity synergy) and 1200 range get away (clear target and get away)

Jungle Spider:

F2: Immobilize+Cripple as well as another Immobilize on a 20sec CD you can and should chain these for 6 sec of back-to-back Immobilize / AE Poison Combo Field which with SB should allow for high up-time for the healing debuff -though in WvW no one is going to stand it it!

Dog:

F2: Immobilize+Cripple and an instant KD if target is near pet when swapped. With Spider that gives 9 sec of Immobilize + 2 sec KD and near permanent Cripple with SB.

MM: IV Signet Mastery -Stun Breaker and condition removal
SK: I 30% Crit for pet / X SB CD / XII Moment of Clarity
WS: I -also reduced survival CD when using LR+QZ
NM: 0
BM: III Shouts / Canine+Spider Cripple


The other variation is a 0/20/30/0/20 (thanks Sol) which drops power for LR and has the condition removal moved from SoR to Empathic Bond with added Toughness.

Same idea of build but values Lightning Reflex -which some might argue is our best utility as well as Camo+more Toughness over SoR with its 36sec on demand cleanse.

Pet Swap Location

I find it hard to accept the ‘player refuses to micro manage pet’ argument, sorry it just does not hold water. As it stands now the most efficient use of pet swap is melee range.

Today as a ranged Ranger I actually move into melee range of my foe before I swap, kid you not that is what the mechanic has conditioned me to do!

I love the 2 sec of quickness for my pet as F2 abilities are 50%, well, quicker! Since quickness is 2sec and I play ranged, unless my ranger is on-top of the target Quickness is wasted.

So sorry, but saying ‘what if pet chased a target’ pets DO NOT CHASE you sent it chasing that target, it was YOU!

I am a ranged ranger as well and I usually switch my pet because

1. I get 2 secs of quickness whether I be rezzing/attacking it helps regardless because you double your speed for 2 seconds.

2. Sometimes my pet is getting scraped such as boss AoE so why would I want my switched pet to be in the SAME position I didn’t want my other pet in?

3. Idk if you have done exp dungeons but sometimes when you need to run past a mob I send my pet to aggro and then run past and switch so my pet is right next to me so that my old pet doesn’t draw the aggro to me. The mechanic is fine because you switch not only to attack with a new pet but to get your old pet out of danger.

Micro manage your pet, swapping as a way to by pass content is not a valid argument. Unless the designers intended swapping to be a means to bypass content then that is another story, I just don’t buy it!

In any case that dose not address the preference to melee aspect of the mechanic. Even if we assume it was the design intent swapping as a means to bypass content it heavily favors melee -bunker- ranger simply because of the F2 pet abilities being 100% hit as melee and much lower for a ranged ranger.

P/P Build Discussion

The problem with so many of these pistol builds is they take a bunch of Shadow Arts and utility/heal stealth because Pistol auto+ Stealth (Sneak Attack) is genuinely good … but the problem with that is P/P is not good at stealth. Yes, you circumvent the weakness of pistol mainhand by focusing on the good part, but there’s another set that is far more conducive to that tactic.

If you’re going to focus on stealthing (which 30 points in Shadow Arts and 3 skill slots devoted to stealth indicates), just run P/D and get organic stealth.

While I agree with you and do run P/D, the thread is trying to pool all the P/P posts seem fragmented into one. P/P to me needs to be compensated for the lack of a consistent way via weapon of entering stealth.

What the above build does is add HP+Toughness and 10% damage to Unload while attempting to maintain the highest possible stealth up-time.

The issue with P/P is that it only has 1 ability that hits hard -as long as your target forgets they can dodge- and the rest don’t really add much…Sorry, but Anet seem to have had some idea that none of us -player base- seem to get regarding all the other P/P abilities other than Unload. It seems weird to me that P/P has no way of consistently geeing into stealth!

Made up my mind. Going 30 skirm 30 bm to lock people down with sb/gs. Gear will be pvt. Lots of crit, survivability and utility along with some of the best mobility.

Pet with guard/sic em and qz for long range sniping and sieging. Skirm trait line maxes out the pet essentially.

What do you think of this build:

It has x3 Condition removal which might be overkill, its just that I hate conditions :/ LR is so amazing so might drop the signet and move 10 points from MM to WS for 20% shorter Survival CD, but I can’t find a spot for QZ!!!

TBH one of the best ranged builds I have seen and actually have switched to would be what Sol uses: (I have 0 points in Nature Magic)

The ‘best’ -other- ranged build would be BM+Bleed+Axe+Torch+SB build. Use shouts, stack bleeds and learn when to use your shouts+QZ and things melt.

Nice vid and seems you found a way to have fun in this game and that’s cool. Now think of all those other players who posted vids and now imagine you went up against any of them, you will get slaughtered. Sorry bro but its not there, P/P is some weird hybrid thing that Anet put together with box tape, it dose not work.

Even you said it when analyzing the other P/P abilities, they simply suck! For P/P to work it needs a way to enter stealth like CnD…some way of consistently using stealth.

I’ve been running this build, sitting full zerkers with 1 piece knight 1 piece valk rune of air and sigil of fire
I sit back spamming gs1 at max range which does about 10k total damage if you add all 3 hits up then I just spam iZerk only and the Izerker is doing about 30k total damage through one attack sequence, i was wondering how this build would go if i had might stacks

Your build is pretty much a phantasm build, so you wouldn’t want to shatter your illusions.
On a side note, the damage numbers add up on the fly, so you do the last number of an attack sequence, as does the iZerker – not the sum of them.

Please compare and contrast both builds for PvE and WvW.

Updated version, Dezember patch.

The mesmer class can be incredibly complex and whatever, but sometimes you just want to run around and have fun. Killing things in PvE gets old fast anyway, so the faster the mobs die, the better. Now, if the mobs die fast because you use your keybord like a korean StarCraft player, good for you. I am lazy though, so here is my advise:

Traits: 20/20/0/0/30

Domination 20: Power is good, things die faster!

I. Mental Torment: Shattering stuff is like one lazy click for four attacks
X. Greatsword Training: The only weapon you need as a lazy player!

Dueling 20: More crits less hits!

II: Phantasmal Fury: More dmg, less clicks!
X: Deceptive Evasion: Dodge Clone? Lazier than using any skill!

Illusions 30: Dmg!

I: Precise Wrack: High five (well actually four) clones to the face!
III: Compounding Power: More dmg, more time for fun things!
XI: Illusionary Persona: No target and no aiming needed, just go boom!

Armor: Berserker for all slots, we are too lazy to search for something else!
Rune: Superior Rune of the Centaur x6. More power, more bleeding dmg, runspeedbuff after healing, cheap? As lazy as it gets!

Extra lazy advise: Zhed’s Armor is exactly what you want!

Weapon1: Berserker’s Greatsword gets it all done, no need for other fancy stuff!
Sigil: Superior Sigil of Air for more damage, and it is cheap too.

Weapon2: What ever rocks your boat, you won’t need it anyway. Personal advise? Go Whatever/Focus, now you can have the runspeed buff up 24/7, no more wasting time.

Skills:
Ether Feast: Healing – good, more healing with clones – lazy.
Blink: The lazy way to get out of trouble.
Decoy: “Nah, I have no time for that”-skill, or if you are in a group: “Who wants aggro?”
Feedback: Hey ranged mob, I’m too lazy right now, go kill yourself! I’m looking at you young karka.
Time Warp: Twice the speed, double the lazy!

Most important advise for lazy players:
Go Options/Combat: Activate Fast-Cast Ground Targeting!
Clicking twice for an attack, sounds like a chore!

Genereal GS playstyle:
Attack 1: get aggro so the mob does not kill clones
Attack 2: clone (and tagging event mobs)
Attack 4: iZerker (and tagging more event mobs
Dodge to target: clone (and closing gap for max shatter dmg)
F1: shatter

Every normal mob is now dead.
Veteran, just go on: generate more clones/ iZerker and shatter.
Boss, if AoE dmg, go with rotation, if no AoE dmg, be extra lazy, avoid shatters let iZerkers do the dmg (looks like ANet mostly fixed it).

Attack 3 is mainly for tagging mobs for extra loot, no targeting needed, sounds lazy.
Attack 5 is useful if you feel funny and fight more than 2 mobs.

This lazy setup works perfectly fine in groups and dungeons too. So you may want to give it a try (ran FotM lvl10 with it without too much trouble).
If you want to tell me that if you utilize a second weapon to max whatever, I will be too lazy to read it.

I just got around to trying your build and I like it, it ticks lots of boxes though I am torn between -last 10 points:

2nd Major Trait in Nature Magic (your build)
10 in MM for 50% increased pet condition duration seeing how the build uses Cripple+Immobilize from pet as a major source of control.

It seems 30 BM lends it self to regeneration, which plays to a bunkers strength. Whatever shape or form you want to use Signet of The Wild and Sigil on those lines.

I can’t seem to find any 30 BM that is not made stronger by increasing ‘Healing.’

Again, I’m not drawing a line in the sand, just looking at any (ANY) 30 BM spec I have yet to find one that is not made significantly stronger by shifting sigil, utilities and whatnot towards +healing and +regeneration.

I tested ‘Pig’ weapons and the picking-up mechanic -like you described- is clunky and low responsiveness…It is a horrible gaming experience.

Even when I play melee and only use F2 after swap for quickness and know exactly the location of the item I need to MASH (F) to pick it up! Just horrible, horrible design.

If you want to make a healing and/or tanking build, use the pig. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Do elaborate, we know about the weapons we get from it and the amazing 3sec KD but what does that have to do with healing?

The PIG gives 3 items, healing seed which gives ~2k hp + a smaller healing spring, eat egg which gives ~4k hp, and Rum which makes you immune to all damage for 3 seconds (this immunity unlike a lot of other immunitys makes you immune to condition damage AS WELL, where most others you will still take burning/bleeding/poison/confusion damage should the condition already be present.)

…and I thought all 3 ‘pig’ pets gave the same weapon! Thanks!

LR & Signet of Renewal are interchangeable -which are our only 2 stun breakers- which is what is great about 10 in MM and the extra 50% condition duration for pets wich matches really well with BM cainin and spider cripple f2 major trait.

In my experience most ppl in wvw are just playing as a pver. A well organized 5-men team can have most boons covered for at least 50% of time, they east 10 men unorganized zerg as a piece of cake and won 90% time against even 15-20 ppl with a just little strategy.
As a ranger, no matter how good your build/gears is and how well you played, your damage is still a joke (compared with some other classes). However, if you go fully support+healing, you can make your team harder than rocks, and also you get not bad 1v1 ability in case some kitten happens. I think that might be the real definition Anet want to give to ranger. You might not be a shining killing star (in fact no matter how hard you play you will never be), but you are irreplaceable in a good team.

Blizzard has already proven that players want to be great and they do not want to make others great instead of them. Blizzard designers -some time ago- decided to make a build called Shadow Priest that made others great in group play but had the Priest kind of gimped -they buffed other people damage and regenerated resources for others. The player base was furious, they absolutely hated that and Blizzard changed it and never went back to that idea again….

Players want to be great themselves!

Glass cannon that is more glass than cannon sure, puts points mostly in the top 2 trait lines and hide inside a zerg and have fun.

Unfortunately Ranger is unable to get any kind of ‘ranged’ build that has +18xx Toughness with good condition removal while maintaing enough power, crit and crit damage that matters.

I set out to find the best ranger ranged build with the following parameters:

1) Balance between offense and defense. (18xx Toughness, Condition removal)
2) Short-bow main weapon.
3) Pet to play a pivotal role with both offense and defense. (15 points caninewolf)

It was extremely frustrating to feel forced into 30 Wilderness Survival for Condition removal and Toughness, I may be looking at this wrong any advice is appreciated.

SB seems to need a high amount of critical hit and critical damage -while flanking, I can’t seem to hit that and maintain my perceived acceptable level of toughness.

Pet wise I want at least 15, I enjoy the play style of swapping every 15sec -or was it 20- and the dynamics of lining up burst with pet and quickness.

Ended up with: 0/20/30/0/20 Troll/Reflex/QZ/SotH/RoA Wolf+Dog

Is this the best a ranged ranger can be? Again, LB is out of the question, no matter how long I play with that weapon I just end up hating it even more.

Bunker (18xx to 2xxx Toughness) /w +6xx to +9xx healing that can be played with SwordDagger and Axe+Torch or a SB and feel free to use WH if you don’t want SotH (25% movement speed increase). 0/0/30/10/30. Don’t be put off with the 16k HP, its plenty with this build.

Its one good build, I am sure others will suggest more.

I went back last night and tried the BM approach again for WvW and came up with a decent build, obviously this assume you have all weapons in bag and change utilities and pets as needed but feel confident that your DPS pet can go into a zerg and chase for a bit…

30 BM looks to be a solid WvW option, faster swap, natural healing+troll+signet and I have sent in DPS pets into a mini zerg and survived!
