Rampage or Berserk? I assume Knight is a terrible set when considering effective HP and Power so the only other choice is Soldier which would not do much damage with a rifle.
Quick question for a new ele, Human Grenth worth it?
I thought for best effective HP Knight is really bad -some one posted some math about how bad Knight is. Thats why I opted for Soldier and Berserk mixed in.
I left the 2nd weapon slot open because I carry all other weapons and will try them out, though GS drop target+swoop away is amazing.
I thought piercing arrow is a must for a ranged ranger in WvW?
Hi,
Looking for help as I got my Ranger to 80 and have just enough Gold to buy one set -casual player. I came up with a build idea/design:
Ranged (SB) power build that has at least 15 in BM with strong (near perma) CC via Cripple+Immobilize chaining from pets+abilities to keep melee just out of melee range and enough power + CC to allow pet to eat away with me at ranged.
So I started out with the above idea to fit how I have fun playing MMO’s:
Ranged Control
I picked Ranger because it has a massive arsenal of ‘ranged control’ when factoring in pets (Wolf+Dog for example give 10 sec Cripple+4 sec KD+2sec Immob + 2sec Fear) rotate that with Muddy Terrian which lasts for 20sec on a 24sec CD and it looks like enough mitigation.
As for Conditions using -20% rune + -40% food so -60% conditions applied to me should be just about enough.
Effective Power 3243.59
Effective Health (EHP) 25834
Damage Reduction 23.12%Gear thus far is pure Soldier and I am not sure if that is the right choice?
Depends on whats you want to do
Solo, you’ll get creamed
But you should be fine in Zerg Fights
I like to roam and get camps and some towers, the idea of so much control is that I should be able to handle other roaming players so any feedback is appreciated and thanks
The build you mentioned should be viable in WvW, but as was stated somewhere in this topic: The build will not get you the kills, it’s the skills you show when playing the build that will yield the rewards.. And for that I might add that there are quite some ranger builds available to you..
I love how you put the focus here on crowd control, but it surely depends on how you want to play in WvW. Do you want to zergball along, or would you rather roam (solo/small group) around the map and flip camps, sentries and even some towers?
For your reference: Small YT vid about WvW ranger gameplay (capping camps, …):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty7MP6M5_9c
Ill go see the video now but to answer your question:
I rather roam (solo/small group) around the map and flip camps, sentries and even some towers.
I’m sorry but I am not aware of ‘points’ for each player?
All the classes including ranger can be very effective in all aspects of WvW and although rangers are not the best 1v1 class they are far from terrible and can be highly effective and I have also seen some pretty tough 1v1 rangers. I have played sb/lb ranger in wvw a lot and got a lot of kills.
LB I hit from 1500m and my shots pass through you and hit your buddies as well no other class can do this.
SB I kite around and dodge like crazy stacking bleeds.
I used spider and bear as my pets spiders poison and immob and bears can tank for you and help with condi removal.
When it comes to attacking or defending walls LB ranger is boss you can get a lot of kills on people that can’t even hit you.
In small groups the ranger can be a great team member and in large groups you can hang back a little giving out damage but not taking any.
When it comes to soloing camps Rangers are one of the best as you can hide behind your pet and kite the npc’s.
All you need to do is find the strengths of your class and play to them.
This is my experience of actually playing a ranger and my kdr is pretty high, if I’m getting a lot more kills than deaths how can the class be bad?
Could you share your thoughts on the build I am looking at?
There is a strong thread in the SPvP forum to that effect: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/It-s-time-to-nerf-Engineers
It doesn’t help that a couple of our top Engs have been joining in saying that HGH is OP. Ostricheggs in particular has made repeated posts in that thread saying his own HGH is OP.
Speculation is that it’s Might stacking that needs nerfing, rather than HGH specifically.
Which concerns me the most about this is that the Eng class might end up balanced for the top 10 or 20 players only. It’s bad enough for the 99.x% of Eng players already, without our play experience being penalised even further because a few talented freaks (nice guys, they just have a freakishly high level of skill) can get this class to be competitive at the highest echelons of SPvP.
Its a page out of Ghostcrawler balancing book lololo
So what you are saying in WvW most of the ‘roamers’ will pretty much negate SB ranged ranger…..In groups I can using a LB stand back 1500 and auto attack :/ I want to play not follow a zerg :/

I don’t think it’s possible.
All good roamers have one thing in common, the ability to get away.
Knock back from Rifle, GS and charge away? Movement breaks immobilize.
My worry is Rifle on a roamer won’t be able to kill fast enough and it depends on a silly foe that eats our 3sec telegraphed burst?
Build and gear choice….
10/25/20/0/15 SB+GS
Idea is ranged, -60% Condition Duration, melee=Muddy+chain cripple
Advice?
Berserk or a Solider? Power build.
(edited by Cempa.5619)
Has any come across a Rifle WvW build+video for solo roamer? Not pure zerger.
- Power is 2181 without Oil, 2388 with.
- Toughness equates to 42.14% damage mitigation.
- Max HP is 26,062
- You take 25% less damage w/ Barkskin when you have 6,515 hp or less.
- +10% damage when endurance is full
- +5% greatsword damage
- +5% damage when you have a boon
- -65% condition duration on you thanks to runes and food
- -25% stun duration on you
Conditions are going to slide off you. You’re very tanky. You’re very mobile. And you hit reliably hard without depending on the RNG garbage that is crit chance. Couple this with the innate evasion the greatsword auto-attack chain has and you have one serious beast of a Ranger … and he has a pet.
I’ve been running this is sPvP where I don’t have the -65% condition duration from food (only -25%) and the extra power from oils and it is still deadly. You’re quite hard to pin down too, despite the lack of food. You won’t burst people down, but you’ll continue to hit them hard and they will go down.
I was facing Guardians down with this puppy.
SB?
Utility setup?
Pets?
Did you try to gradually add in some DPS gear, say zerger or Knight? Zerger weapons for example then some Trinkets?
How many ways can you spec and gear SB+GS?
Soldier or Knight? I don’t like the idea of zerker as I look to do WvW with lots of solo roaming.
If you had every profession at 80 and enough gold to outfit just one character for WvW solo play which profession/build and why would give you the most fun?
My vote: Engineer HGH/P+P
1) High swiftness uptime
2) Good ranged damage
3) Good mitigation
4) Pull foe to you via magnet
5) Pry bar to face
6) has to be Pry bar to face again hehe
I’ll give it a try, I want to compare with my condition/BM build especially in WvW and dungeons
Any feedback?
Hi,
I just read an interesting post by cottage.3274 (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Any-decent-builds-WITHOUT-a-kit/first#post1466975) :
“go do some tests then come back and tall me i`m wrong,i did and alot,
this is what you get:
65%
explosive shot 2 bleed stacks=7 ticks
poison dart volley 5 darts=16 ticks
blowtorch 200 distance 3 stacks=9 ticks
vs 50%
explosive Shot 2 bleed stacks=6 ticks
poison dart volley 5 darts=15 ticks
blowtorch 200 distance 3 stacks=9 ticks
what you and some ppl do not seem to get is that its true that per one shot of explosive shot you will not get 1s or 2s extra if you don`t be at 50/100% exactly since its gets rounded down.
but if you get to 0.25/0.65/0.75+- ect it will be added to the next shot and the next shot and so on resulting in a extra tick at some point to take 65%(its really 62.5%) as example on the second shot you will get one more tick.
and as you can see only blowtorch don`t get the benefit of 10 ticks vs 9 ticks in 65%/50% you need 70% for the 10.
so no you don`t need to be only in 50/100% to benefit from condition duration.
and like i said our low cd and base low duration on skills that apply conditions works to our favor when considering condition duration." -cottage.3274
So I went to the Trait builder to see how I can hit 65% with my P/P HGH build and it looks like we have a winner (unless I’m sleepy and missed something):

Hi Mask,
Cool vid thanks. Which slots have Toughness gear in them?
P/P 0/30/10/30/0
Been doing some WvW completely ignoring Condition Duration and stacking Condition Damage, it seems if I land Blowtorch and Rocket Kick followed by Poison Dart Volley most things begin to panic…Which leads me to my question, if the pressure is this high with 26% crit, would it not be even higher if I add some Rabid gear for Toughness and Precision? Has any one played this build with a full Rabid set? 18k HP Vs 24k HP / 9xx Power Vs 16xx Power / 1k Toughness Vs 17xx Toughness / 26% Crit Vs 49% Crit

We are not dependent on kits to function and you have all of the options available to you.
Rifle: Power build can be DPS focused or bunker/support focused and everything in between
Pistil: Condition focused so a good amount of crit also.
People seem to ignore the fact that utility slots can be change instantly, healing turret or med pack or wrench can easily be swapped in to meet your current needs.
What I read was the current AI of the pet is part of the class balance…It is the way it is by DESIGN!
Try this one out, its a bunker HGH Rifle build that hits hard and i splayed pretty much up close and personal!

I’ll leave that here..oh and you’re welcome
What build and gear do you use?
Its not my video but if you go to his channel and check out his other videos he gives a description.
Cool vid, and you might want to preempt the usual questions:
1) Build
2) Gear
Food for thought:
30/30/5/0/5 SB / S+H
Nothing is perfect and what this build provides is an option for the die hard ranged players. Your ‘defense’ comes from pets CC and x2 Condition removal every 10 sec -I tested it the Sigil I use is actually not listed here its the one that TRANSFERS a condition you have to your target every 10sec, it works well.
(edited by Cempa.5619)
I’ll leave that here..oh and you’re welcome
Play what you enjoy, it really is that simple. I enjoy P/P elixir build and used it all the way to 80 and still play it. Regarding PvE my issue is mob tagging in group events which sucks. Other than that the build works really well.
I’m just lost you guys have completely forgotten about precision. You get DPS from procing conditions and you get an easy 50% crit damage boost just for criting. That 50% crit damage = ~400+ power if not a hell of a lot more. Remember, that 50% is calculated after your tooltip damage is calculated.
You can see how your power dwindles
Tooltip damage = (average weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (level-based Armor value)
Crit is important indeed so:
WvW: Gear/food is mixed -though predominantly Carrion
tPvP: Rabid addressed the issue
Though I don’t do much PvE I wounder why that is the case since with full Carrion you end up with over 1600 Power.
Just find what works best for you.
Here’s the thing for me, and why I dropped condition duration: it is absolutely worthless against those players/classes/builds that present a challenge. While it helps and adds alot of damage against less skilled opponents or players who don’t use condition removal, condition duration won’t help you at all against good guardians/eles/thieves and everyone else who has consistent condition removal.
Also, as I said alot of times, I do not go full out condition damage, I have a decent amount of power as well. If you invest less in power and more in condition damage (or defensive stats), duration becomes more important, which is not true for a more balanced build.
I’m trying a different take on my build atm, I’m still testing it to see how it works out, if it works out well you will see a new vid (and changes to my build) soon.
Carrion is Power+Condition damage but lacks Precision and Toughness which fits in perfectly with your strategy -looking forward to seeing what you are working on!
Napalm Specialist: Burns you apply last 20% longer.
Is this a complete waste if you have 0 Condition duration? I am assuming the benefit comes at 25% increments, or did I get it wrong?
soooo… i heard u guys like condition damage.
Are you in full Carrion (Power/Condition/Precision) with the +250 from Sigil and +x from food?
Just as heads up, if anyone is thinking of trying purity sigils (outside of t/sPvP) then use Sigil of Generosity instead. It not only removes conditions, but transfers it to whoever you’re fighting (with the same cooldown). http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sigil_of_Generosity
Great didn’t even know about that Sigil, thanks!
My dilemma is when I post build(s) with duration -either 50% or 100% condition duration- I get told get more Condition damage, when I post a build like Mask’s I get told get more duration
“If you have any questions contact me in game!”
Most people want to know build and gear set up and those who post about builds but refuse to link the actual build and describe gear choice leave a negative impression on readers.
The build comes from:
Look at how hard his conditions tick for!
I have asked once or twice about building P/P and each time the answer was add Condition Damage so:

Toughness 1,016
Power 1,610
Condition Damage 1,406
Adventure x6 / Corruption / Earth
How can this build improve for WvW?

Toughness 1,660
Condition Damage 1,223
Condition Duration 10%
Critical Hit 57%
This build with Pizza boosts ALL Conditions up to 50% and boons are boosted by 50% from Traits.
The OP build is a tankish P/P build as its loaded with Toughness and Healing. While this build shifts stats towards Condition Damage and Precision.
Edit: So as some said I reduced the 100% Duration to 50% and boosted Condition Damage and Precision
Edit 2: The 10 Points keep them in the Toughness line or go for 2sec Burn seeing how much Crit I have?

Health 18,082
Toughness 1,989
Healing Power 769
Condition Damage 850
Power 1,041
Boon Duration 30% + 20% Elixir Duration from trait
Bleeding Duration 55%
Condition Duration 10%
Pizza 40% Condition duration so I hit bleed, burn and poison increase.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
The other build I was thinking of would be a 50% Condition duration increase build:
0/30/10/30/0 P/P /w Rabid & Lich or Lyssa for the Vitality/Precision and 10% Condition duration increase.
Again, any advice is appreciated.
Rifle and Pistol/Pistol are very different and both hit really hard when played right.
Rifle:
Hip Shot (1) —-—> @ 100 distance——>Net Shot (2) —-—→Blunderbuss (3) —-→Jump Shot (5) —-—> Overcharge Shot (5)
P/P:
Glue Shot (5) —-—> Poison Dart Volley (2) —-—> Explosive Shot (1) —-—>@ 200 distance —-—> Static Shot (3) —-—> lift hands from any movement as to allow toon to auto face —-—> Blowtorch (4) —-—> Dance with it a bit more and its over.
I find both weapons fun and powerful but since I lean towards ranged P/P is my proffered set of choice.

Found this guide, really cool stuff!
So I’ve been messing around with the Ranger, and the more I look at it, the more appealing the lower tier traits look to me.
To that end, I wanted to try a build that focused on high crit / condition damage and relied on high movement / evasion for survivability.
Mostly intended to be effective at sPVP & random PVE.
The build: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VG7kV-BFtEFx-r2ZDV-0;9k23;19OJ940;019-57-5;3TwW6-sW6LNW4LNW42Jd
Thoughts and comments?
I opened the link and see an add for Filipino women…I’m in the UK!
Thanks great guide and some questions:
Cleric Vs Shaman I could use a bit more convincing, not seeing how Cleric is better.
Have players not figured out by now the BM Healer build is an outlast build, I mean don’t they just move in whatever direction as to negate your pet and leave you to last? I see a LB Ranger in PvP and I laugh and 3 shot her…I see a melee Ranger with healing signet and I just avoid them.
Edit: You used that horrible builder that requires us to watch a silly add :/ pass
i have a ranger build which uses healing signet, melee and LB so what would you do if you saw me
BTW i win 95% of duels with the build, you’d be laughing all the way to the respawn
The thing is every one says that, I have yet to see one post that says they have a 5% win rate :/
So if every one says they win 95% of the fights basic math says something is wrong :/
But you caught my attention and I’m intrigued, what’s this bunker healing build that uses LB?
