I did some world tests and found that our weapons work best when using both sets, so:
Which two sets kill the fastest? Use all abilities, switch and use all abilities?
The scepter does have its uses but I don’t usually rely on it to put out tons of damage. I usually use the scepter for the immobilize/smite and the defensive skills on the focus/sheild. Immob/Smite combo can put out some decent damage and control but it’s not consistent enough to rely on as your main damage dealer. The scepter’s auto attack just doesn’t cut it when most of the your enemies are moving a lot in PVP. The auto attack is much more useful in PVE where the enemies aren’t moving as much.
Some of the others in the thread can provide more details but this is just my two cents. =)
In WvW I can of remember a couple of Guardians using a Sceptre and it seemed odd those blue bubbles never actually reaching me lol
Is there such a thing as an offensive Sceptre Guardian? What role dose the Sceptre play? Can you solo with it or it solely as a defensive weapon used in places melee range is not desired?
The Trait description states that Axe damage is increased by no amount mentioned, it continues to say that Axe CD is reduced by 20%.
Any idea how much Axe damage is increased by and if it applies to 1, 2 and 3?
Lastly, a fully taited Staff Vs a fully traited Axe, are the near in DPS or not? Seems the staff out damages the Axe (in a power build).
I noticed when my Necro is downed enemy health bar falls really fast, so much so I cant help but wonder if getting down should be part of our strategy? lol?
200% once every XX sec, bad design is bad.
WvW Ranger is the unbeatable profession the thing is people don’t know how to gear and spec or refuse to do so….We have seen players post that build with clips several times on these forums with SB/LB/Sword/ I mean come on whatever you want melee or ranged YOU CAN BE A GOD!
Its so OP I actually stopped playing it, you can not be killed by 1 and most times 2 players of equal gear and skill….Just cant happen.
One last time: Regeneration Power Toughness build, I like to play it as ranged with SB/LB, other play it with Sword its all good….The Regeneration is greater than any DPS of any single build in the game today while hitting you with over 2k Power for consistent DPS and the pet chewing chunks away…It even has a burst chain using QZ and pet swoop knocking 5k – 6k off at least every x sec.
In a way its good so many players refuse to wear Cleric gear, this away Anet will not nurf the build.
(edited by Cempa.5619)
Axe 1 has no use at all and should not be used under any circumstance, ANYTHING including turning around and running is better than Axe 1. Its not even a damage issue, Axe 1 needs to do more than what it dose now.
Hi Palu,
First let me say thanks as I had abandoned my Mesmer after the patch but now with your guide I will go back and play again to see if it is fun again!
Please help me out translate your build into the following builder and tell me what you think…thanks: (I ended up with 13xx Condition Damage so not sure why)
Shatter: Staff -> Sword/Focus
Phantasmal: Greatsword -> Sword/Pistol
Shatasmal: Staff -> Greatsword
Now that we have that out of the way…
What would the Phantasmal build look like? Get both +15% illusion traits or not?
Had my eyes popping out a bit. However there seems to be something wrong with this when I was fiddling with it. On that spreadsheet “axe training” gives a massive increase to effective power when you add it that isnt reflected in the damage you actually get.
I dont know, it may be appropriate however it doesnt sit right with me as far as comparing to other specs.
You’re right I look at it again and the calculator seems to increase power by 20% with the axe trait.
Whats your Axe power build?
build for regen and never worry about anything other than a mesmer again.
Looking for advice, I think the gearing is optimised (not sure though) and was looking for any input?
Effective Power 4158.19
Effective Health (EHP) 29451
Damage Reduction 34.36%
Toughness 1877
Critical Chance 36%
Critical Damage + 44%
Damage 20.75%
30/0/25/0/15 Staff / Axe+Focus
Consume Conditions / S. Walk / S. Wall / SoS -Power- / Flesh Golem (since it dies so fast I only call it when I need to snare or knock down some one)
you mean the cosmetic look of it cempa? the build itself or the stats? I don’t understand what your asking.
OK The build and how you would gear for that said power build.
terror builds are great arnt they thor, though id say my power necro has FAR more burst than the terror set up.
like you say terror is great for 2v1’s and I do have more success on my terror necro in outnumbered situations.
and what would that build look like /w gear?
Do you have the trait “Flesh of the Master”? That adds 50% more health to the minions.
I’m still below 30 so not enough trait points.
I kind of found a way: If the Flesh Golem is being focused I use charge, so charge has shifted from being a control utility to a minion mitigation ability -if the minion is facing in the direction of more mobs I just let it die.
Another way is I ignore my class/weapon kiting/snare/immobilize abilities and let the target pound on me instead of the minion.
I use Consume Conditions for a heal now, one ‘mindless’ minion with below average AI is more than what’s left of my positive gaming experience can handle.
I think there is a disconnect between the payer and game designers with regards to what the view and perception of how minions ought to respond to the player and game environment. As a player I expect minions to have flawless AI and share the masters stats -at the very least be as durable as I am especially the Elite!
What is the deal with that Jagged Horror that is summoned when a target dies? Can anything be more useless? Change it to:
After killing a target all minions gain regeneration, this only happen once every X sec
(edited by Cempa.5619)
Flesh Golem just got a huge boost to its HP and a decent buff to toughness.
So I heard but in-game the thing is beyond squishy…Any one else in 30’s questing in level 20 content face this problem?
Sorry but the Flesh Golem is made out of paper, it needs a massive boost to armour or HP or BOTH! I really don’t want NPC’s to attack it at all, sometimes they come for me but as soon as I snare them they turn around and pawn this so called elite….
As some one questing it is beyond frustrating to have it die so often…
Or is it game designers intention we not use this minion is general game play? Is it intended to be summoned situationally and it IS by design to die extremely fast? If so boo hoo on this game experiencing reducing concept!
Hi,
I have a couple of bones to pick:
1) Reapers Touch clearly states it affects allies and my minions are not allies, I get that, my bone is they SHOULD be affected by me regeneration. The reason I say that is I feel Flesh Golem is far too squishy in general PvE and the minions do not regenerate health out side of combat, so this would be a good way instead of me pulling my hair trying to have all my minions in the same place near a critter for a mark of blood heal!
2) Flesh Golem is way too squishy in general PvE, even with regeneration on it as often as possible it dies so easily! I just got it at level 30 or 31 and started doing the lower level areas (15-25) and the Golem dies faster than the healing minion!! The healing minion takes more hits….Seriously? Its an ELITE!
Sorry but my gaming experience just hit rock bottom….
Apparently Necro is not supposed to do anything alone! T1 do what you want, but once you go up solid worlds you are kittened and have no chance except behind a wall of players.
I firmly believe the subjective part of game balancing overweighted Death Shroud. The need to buff something not sure what but something!
The point is take a look at what players are doing, they are killing critters to heal minions and refill life force…Seriously you spend all this money on an amazing game only to have this silly thing that has PLAYERS KILLING CRITTERS!
Come on, am I the only one who thinks something is seriously wrong here!?
Its not fun to always be looking for critters just to heal my minions and gain Life Force. I don’t think Life Force/Death Shroud compares to Warrior Adrenaline at all.
I’d like to see Life Force Bar fill up out of combat (10 sec OOC) and minions regenerate health out of combat (10 sec OOC).
Anet people please consider what players are actually doing today in game, killing critters should never be part of that!
Curious to hear from other, do find a place for this build in how YOU like to play GW2?
With that much power and using Axe + Focus to regen life force, I would go Staff mark drops, DS Life blast while getting close, then continue with Axe+ Focus to regen that life force then swap back to Staff and repeat. Lifeblast with power build hits hard and is a great addition to your ranged attack.
Personal preference: I would replace Centaur with Lyssa x6, since you keep your elite for when you need it, you could cast golem, removes all conditions, gain a lot of boon and benefit from your 25% boon duration It also bring your crit chance to 44%. And that’s on a 60 sec cooldown.
Great feedback, THANKS! Ill practice rotating DS in my DPS cycle.
Something like this:
http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/necromancer/?5.0|6.1n.h2|7.1n.h4.d.1n.h1j|1c.73.1g.73.1g.73.1g.73.1c.73.1g.73|1n.67.1n.67.1n.67.1n.67.1n.67.1c.67|u27b.0.p25.0.f4|40.1|3r.48.4d.43.4g|e(It’s basically a decrease of 10 points in toughness for an increase in everything else)
Much appreciated!
Any input on the build?
I open in Staff and use my blast finisher to get Weakness up then drop another blood and switch to Axe…Focus 4+5 and then axe 2 for burst…hit axe 3 when in range and back to staff rinse and repeat.
Idea is a power build to have fun in WvW and PvE with Staff / Axe+Focus and calls the Golem as needed (meaning I summon it only when a melee is on me or solo).
As you can see its a very tanky build with a truck load of power and decent crit…Sigil of choice is Power stacking so add to that +250.
Gear: Berserker Armour / Centaur Runes / Knight+Soldier Trinkets
Food: Ravioli (Toughness+Precision) + Sharpening Stone
30/0/25/0/15 Consume Condition / Spectral Walk / Well / Signet of Spite / Golem
Effective Power 3956.68
Effective Health (EHP) 29373
Damage Reduction 34.59%
Critical Chance 35.52%
Damage 20.75%
Critical Damage + 32%
Though I have a 80 Condi I don’t play it much and wanted to start fresh but take the power route this time…Looking for feedback.
/merci
Now I know why GW2 world is filled with critters, so I have a way to heal my ‘mindless’ minions between pulls using Mark of Blood.
While this may not be new to many players I still find myself at a complete loss why ‘mindless’ minions -all of them- do not have some kind of health regeneration!
…and Focus (#4) casts regeneration on allies but not ‘mindless’ minions?
PS my asura keeps calling out ‘rise my mindless.’
I feel like a low IQ Necro since the minions seem to spend half the time looking at something far away in the opposite direction of the action..
So its like my foe sees my Necro coming, fear fills his chest at the site of all the horrid minions only when I am near he starts laughing at my mindless moronic minions that ignore him while he bashes my skull in :/
I use Death Shroud..MIGHTY DEATH SHROUD, to soak that BIG hit and buy some seconds for my heal to come back…but guess what he smacked me on the head with a CC and he also got to enjoy those few seconds for his heal to come back!
Honestly I feel like a level 2 Mage in WoW starting area with an army of vanity pets :/
In a high Toughness build when combined with adrenal healing and food healing you get a solid regen build….look at ways to keep regeneration up from runes and talents.
TBH he has a point, while the class can spec in a multitude of ways, ‘tankish’ builds are by far the most powerful!
In the off hand it needs to allow for as much stealth as any other weapon set.
Ever, no but in GW2 YES! I believe Anet over weighted Death Shroud and due to that has toned down the burst/damage of the class way too much.
Cool video and all but I got to say I was hurting watching the build/class in WvW its so weak :/ I know some may not get what I am saying but comparing it to my Ranger, Mesmer or Engineer or even my GS Guardian watching you play I felt pain the class is suffering :/
Its a gimmick class sorry to say but Anet really failed this class.
There is a build that relies completely on the PVT stats to grab massive amounts of durability. You basically have 0 crit chance or crit damage but you will still hit extremely high by using Superior Sharpening Stone ( I think thats the one, though I might be wrong) which gives you power equal to a percentage of your toughness and vitality.
This build is extremely tanky but still hits pretty high, at least from what I’ve heard about it. I personally play conditionmancer, but am looking into getting the PVT gear for this setup. The gear isn’t very hard to obtain either as AC exp rewards have PVT gear.
any more info? link?
The more I play both weapons the more I like the mix of control, burst and sustained I just am no longer sure of the build and gear!
Condition mesmer is dead, don’t even try.
The build has nothing to do with Confusion :/
Seen a few Condition guides around and was wondering how many different ways could you play Condition mesmer?
What about Staff+GreatSword? Staff is man and GS is for when you need to stay faaaar away, pop Phantasm+Clone for buffs and AE knock back!
0/0/25/15/30
Effective Power 1103.56
Effective Health (EHP) 27410
Damage Reduction 36.95%
Critical Chance 40.95%
Health 17282
Condition Damage + 1757
Not sure how to gear though as I think Boon duration should be a big part of this build?
Hello,
do you guys think you can elaborate on the play style for this build? I know that the rifle main atk has a bleed attached, and the last time I played a warr (4-5 months ago) the long bow arrows did not impress me… were kinda slow and meh.
Thank you.
Since I put that build together I have been trying to learn, now some people have already posted how to combine Rifle+LB to lock-down and burst…Rifle is for the 3 burst abilities and an emergency knock back, you really don’t want to be using Rifle 1 outside of 1 stack of bleed for the 10% extra damage. Long Bow is for locking down while you land that ‘slow arcing arrow’ AE attack and then LB 1 is a beast in a power/crit build.
Basically its a build that has you using both weapon ALL the times…its like I want Rifle for x3 abilities and NOT #1 and I want LB for CC and #1 auto attack.
Not sure how well I wrote that :/
To understand the use of staff you need to understand see its role for what it it.
It not suppose to give instant rewards in terms of big numbers, even if you spec for deep condition its rather hard in wvwvw to stakc enought high conditions to accualy deal dmg with the staff. What it do provide in dmg thu and in offensive conditions thu is preassure. You dont kill the enemy with staff, you preassure him. Between your bursts you want to stress the enemy, make him defensive and general keep him low, when your cd,s are ready again for a kill in a few secconds you go for the kill by swap to sword / x
What staff lso give is the best mobility by any other mesmer weapon. It also have the strongest defensive cd,s in game for mesmers. Plus it have a EXTREMLY high clone generation, our most important resourse.
So how do you get anything usefull of your staff, you dont use it for kills, you use it for :
-Mobility and chasing ppl down (yes you can catch runners by use staff)
-Defensive juking
-Build preassure on enemy
-Team support/own booning up for a killWhen you want to kill someone swap to sword /x. When somone want to kill you swapp to staff.
Adding a video who might explain the different uses.
/Osicat
Osicat what I saw it that video is ridiculous! Ridiculous in the sense that you move your mesmer like it was your own body…you mastered it! How you use your abilities combined with terrain is a thing of beauty!
Looking at your build some more, do you already have this gear? If so don’t worry about this post (it’s a min/max thing)
If not you can get the same basic stats with more crit damage by swapping out the soldiers crests for exquisite ruby gems and swapping two of the rings for exotic soldiers rings. (the exotics are available for karma from the cathedral of silence. While you are there also pick up an exotic soldiers backpiece.)
Thanks! I don’t have the gear yet

Thoughts on WvW / PvE?
I began with the idea of a pure ranged warrior for WvW and PvE which meant I had to choose between Power (Rifle) or Condition (Long Bow), I choose Power.
As you all know Long Bow #1 auto attack scales well with power so it seems like a good fit as the rest of Long Bow is for CC and AoE.
Here is what I came up with, though not sure about Utilities and gearing:
Effective Power 3747.39
Effective Health (EHP) 32611
Damage Reduction 35.26%
Toughness 1625
Critical Chance 45.29%
Damage 29.36%
Critical Damage + 40%
15/25/0/0/30
Mix of Knight/Soldier/Beserker
This is not new, just wanted to hear what people think about it: (WvW / PvE)
20/0/20/0/30 Staff / Scepter+Torch
Mirror / Mirror Images / Decoy / Signet of Domination / Elite of choice
I/X
0
V/X
0

x6 Carrion Armor / x6 Centaur Runes
Carrion Weapon (Staff—>Earth / Scepter—>Energy / Torch—>Corruption)
Trinket: Full Rabid
Bowl of Orrian Truffle Soup (+100 Condition +70 Vitality)
Master Turning Crystal
Effective Power 1797.86
Effective Health (EHP) 25505
Damage Reduction 24.32%
Toughness 1506
Condition Damage 1606 without Sigil
Health 19302
Open with x3 clones and Shatter ASAP (for retaliation)
Drop storm and take it from there.

Best 1v1 build Ranger Vs Necro = dead necro….
In case any one wants to know what that ranger would look like:
Why not 20/20/0/0/30 and focus on GS but also Glamour+Confusion?
