What limited depth ever-inflated-gear-stats add to gaming experience is more than compensated with the seemingly endless build choices form the, what seems endless, combinations of Traits, Armour, Food and utilities, pets choices as well as the huge number of weapon combinations and sigils used.
GW2 has tremendous depth inside each and every profession and allows for thousands of hours of ‘fun’ gameplay!
In other words, its your game, your world, make of it what you want!
A minionmaster is able to kill the training dummys in LA by himself. Not as fast as an elementalist, but at least he can. Mesmer cannot. Warrior cannot. Minions dps is nice…
…but as others have said, they die. Realy fast.
For proof, in clerics gear:
What build do you use? I see a massive amount of healing.
As I alluded to in the post, I usually run with all cleric’s gear currently (and Spite 15 adds more healing power, although I’m really only taking that for the minion damage in Spite 20). Well of blood, dagger 2, and staff 2 (when necessary) are amazing with a lot of healing power. I find this works especially well in less experienced groups, and it gives me a lot more control over the big picture in most fights than dps-heavy gear would.
I wanted to see if you could still kill the practice golems in LA with minions and a non-dps focused build (hence, the screenshot). Turns out you can
(and this is why I bring minions to CoF p1).
How is this build in other dungeons and WvW?
900 toughness as a melee player? ooh boy ooh boy ohh boy!
By red line I mean once crossed your gaming experience plummets, for me:
——————
Ignoring Ranger pets becomes the predominate strategy in sPvP and WvW.
——————
If that happens I will pretty much lose most of the joy playing this class, how about you?
Edit: By ignore I mean your foe no longer cares to dodge pet key abilities and simply forgets about it completely.

Minions works most of the time in sPvP, not all of us are pure Tournament players…Some of us do PvE and WvW in which minions AI is pure garbage.
Long story short, they’re horrible and not even worth it. Your minions will be dead before they get any hits off on the enemy anyway. A dead minion is a 0 dps minion. Re-roll or go full power, avoid minions like the plague.
You obviously have never played minions to any extent. They hit like trucks. And if you know how to properly play them, you know how to make them land those hits. HP melts off like flame to wax….well except shadow fiend, yeah he won’t ever make it to the target, sorry my dark friend.
I’d like to ask what you guys think of this build, now this build is not mine, it is by a strictly Tournament player who posted it on the forum with a youtube guide (I added the armour and food he didn’t).
Cool, thanks! =) So that’s the pretty standard build?
I doubt it as its heavy on toughness which you do not need in PvE
Its the in-the-long-run approach of balancing stuff but who cares about the long run when the pet is dead now!
Honestly what did you expect will happen? You really think this email will actually achieve any of the ‘just stop’ requests you made?
It all adds up, slowly but surely, add enough and players will vote with feet -as in leave the game.
13k – 14k Maul on a level 80! I like Maul in a power BM build!
I like to play it like Blackbird said in a heavy Power / Bunker build with double birds for more Vigor and SB…SB #4 and birds and Maul go well as they keep a good stack of bleeds up while your power dose the rest.
Try movement impairing on your enemies and speed boost for ya pet xD
Sounds great but why would my ‘Cat’ consistently F2 into air against a stationary target?
Why would my pet begin a 300 or 600 range attack cast and not turn with target that is still within the radius just not inside the cone or behind the pet? Thats like you or me try throwing a dart at a dart board that is in range but behind us..kind of dumb right? AI the pet to face a moving target!
30/30/5/0/5 you can trait and choose pets depending on what you want to do in PvE.
I wish our pets can move while casting!
The reason is, for myself at least, I love pet classes and my positive gaming experience shoots up when I see my pet on my target doing cool stuff like damage, conditions, snares and knock downs, love it! My gaming experience plummets -in game while playing- when I send my pet -say a Lynex- towards a stationary target using F2 only to see it cast then lung at air!
My gaming experience hits rock bottom when I am attacking a PvP target with my bow and all the other guy has to do to negate my pet is strafe and move a bit forward and a bit backwards with dodge here and there when my pet casts -paws glow and it gets into a pre lunge posture for example!
Sorry to say it but my gaming experience, with combat pets in-game, was so much higher with my Hunter in WoW….I kind of wish gw2 pets are more like DoT’s!
Pet can move while casting.
@ 15:28 or near that he eats a full 100b so casually lol Bunkers FTW
I understand pet damage is a significant part of class DPS so my question is in PvE pet lands its DPS consistently due to mob AI but in PvP its another story so did player damage, in PvP, get boosted to compensate?
Other classes have a human behind them unlike pet AI and humans tend to do a pretty good job at learning the basic ability of staying in range of target but pet AI in this game, in PvP, is obviously designed not to because of cast time and pet not adjusting to a moving target. For example Drake starts casting but target runs through drake —-> drake casts and hits nothing. A human would have been turning during the cast and hit its target!
In any case pet AI is how Anet wants it and I think now I understand why bunker builds are far more effective at PvP: As a DPS build pet DPS is a significant part and since in PvP all a human target needs to do to negate pet DPS is move I understand why DPS builds are inferior to bunker builds for ranger in PvP.
I don’t mean to start a flame war from all the DPS players and I ain’t lookin’ for WvW clips of your 30/30/5/0/5 build either, just trying to understand how the class has been balanced in PvP with regards to pet AI being significantly less effective at delivering consistent DPS?
I got my set from the Gem store the medium gear armour set and bought Rox’s short bow and quiver and used the exotic red/wine colour mix on an Asura.
This is my second ranger as I want an Asura and have yet to look at high end dungeon sets so would be cool if you guys could share your best looking rangers!
If I can chime in about condition removal, Ranger can build in a way 10sec is plenty, all you need to do as a player is figure out a good point between +healing, +toughness, +power or +condition. You can go for Cleric, Soldier or Opeth -err I forget its name the condition toughness healing gear.
Just play around with a mix until you find YOUR sweet spot…GW2 gives us the player this and I think its awesome…
I thought a ‘Finisher’ need a Combo ‘Filed’? I don’t have any fields up but each time the pet uses Tail Swipe Weakness is up!
I wonder if Condition duration increases it?
I know I’m going to have a DOH moment but how is this pet putting Weakness up on targets? I use SB….
Oo learn something new every day, thanks!
Starte a new Ranger -want an Asura- and while using a GS I killed a target and clicked on my pet and to my surprise it had the Sharpening Stone buff with its double blade graphic which was flashing and it read ‘next 3 attacks bleed’ I have no idea how that happened and have failed to replicate it again…
It’s a dangerous path. Because pets might become OP in dungeons. Like “Ok, just send in 5 pets, sit back and watch”. Not cool.
I feel it’s more a general flaw in game and pet mechanics. ANet decided to not have tanks in the game. Instead we use dodging for evading damage. It’s a nice idea. Too bad that our pets cannot dodge.
And regarding BM bunker:
It don’t like this build at all. It’s a really dumb build imho. But it IS a solid build against the 1.000.000 pew-pew ganking thieves out there ;-)
So why dose that not happen in WoW?
Thought I’d pop this in here, just found it on teh interwebz. Its a cleric build for zvz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8uMwQC6U6g
Nice!
BM GS Bunker….Trinkets can be change to a mix of Cleric to get near 500 healing as an option…
1) Terror is awesome WITH Master of Terror
2) Mark of Evasion Vs. Foot in the Grave / Near Death…No contest at all max out Soul Reaping
3) Curses: Weakening Shroud is great in sPvP if you are being trained, reduce cd on Corruption for Boon strip its amazing…
You don’t have any condition duration increase so why take Haemophilia?
A bump as I think this post is worth it and hope to get others to share thoughts on these builds.
OP how would these builds fair against say the vet kraka? or WvW?
Can Warrior solo the Kraka? My ranger can TANK it, my Guardian can TANK it, mt Engineer and Necromancer can kill it with smart dodging.
I have had many a discussion with fellow Necromancers who swear by, errr whatever it is GW2 players swear by, that Minion Master Necromancers are a force to be reckoned with in sPvP….Any of you MM force-to-be-reckoned with around to share some hints and tips?
These days I run MM a fair amount and win a fair amount of 1 v 1 however its more a skill level of who im fighting not because its a great spec. I would say at around 90% to lower 1000 ranking it works, when you start to face good players rated above the top 900 or so its not as good, but that can be said about necro as a whole regardless of build.
Best to use a BM ranger for close point holding, they will win all 1 v 1s against any class so long as there is not a major lack of skill on the rangers part.
My main is a BM Ranger and you are correct, I have yet to come across any single player that can pump out enough burst to bring BM Ranger down with the near perm dodging, huge healing per second and good sustained DPS with good ability to reset if needed.
Well that is kind of odd, I have 2 weapon sets and the Staff is so I can keep regen and bleed up and then the other marks are also damage, mitigation and utility abilities….Sceptre+Dagger is just DPS and its not that great on its own either.
So I get carried by my guild :/
I’ve noticed that PvE boss type mobs that are stationary do not trigger Staff Marks during combat, so what gives? Its a target and in combat, intended or I should not use staff in against dungeon bosses that don’t use feet?
Just leaving this here to see what others think:
Arah set da best!
That is the coolest looking toon I have seen, probably in any game, I’ve not done many instances and never been in Arah, the vendor in in LA?

errrr when I exit DS my sigil procs right now on live….I use Geno so I see the graphics clear as day.
Would be great if others chime in on what they think about this build?
This is a spoof right? You’re making fun of the class?
0/0/30/10/30 Bow Power-rangers also use double energy on bows and birds for pretty much ridiculous amount of dodging.
As far as I can tell to hard counter a bunker you need high burst and high sustained? Say a pure DPS Guardian (Sceptre+Torch / Sword+Focus).
Also, for condition removal try bringing Lyssa runes. Combines really well with the short golem charge cooldown.
Yes, it also provides all buffs such as stability and aegis for 5sec and allows you to reach 100% fear duration without giver’s weapon, using only food and the trait. No food in pvp tho.
Mad King Runes are like the glassy version of this, providing good aoe damage (That procs 16 times per enemy for purposes of bleed and siphon on hit, deranged stuff… Charge also for some reason deals its damage in like kittens). Siphon and bleed on hit might make it more interesting than Lyssa, especially if you use both staff and oh dagger (2 methos of condi transfer). Beware of retaliation tho, you will kitten yourself badly if you hit something with it.
Could you share your build?
Also, for condition removal try bringing Lyssa runes. Combines really well with the short golem charge cooldown.
Last time I tested it it only works with the summon not the charge.
Condition Rifle+Sword, you have the 50% bleed duration from trait and 10% from Sigil if you add Pizza you get 100% though not sure if that is a good idea for WvW or even sPvP as intensity > duration in those settings…PvE duration all the way.
Thank you, I have been struggling to find builds that look like a fit and you just gave me a bunch that I would enjoy!
Rifle / Sword + Shield Shout Condition Build: Please explain choice of healing in gear? Opportunity cost would be say a rabid set for example with much needed precision?

Amazing guide because it has everything I could ever want to know about my Necro!
As for WvW you are on the right track I think the best WvW build is a straight up Tournament build +Food/Armour.
Thanks

Indeed don’t tell them that every mesmer and his mother will slot Moa as soon as they see you coming and insta kill all of your minions every time :/
Don’t tell them any and DPS will insta gib your minions….Unless of course you are playing random hotjoin in which people run around solo like headless chickens?
