A few more details in an interview on Shacknews -

The towers are the chokepoints of the map that prevent enemy army movement if they’re not able to break through.

So that’s what they mean by emphasis on defending? I think I’ll be a tower guard more often that’s decent.

Not if your up against a server that blobs up and K-trains to make their PPT. This is a great step in reducing blob behavior.

The rally mechanic works the opposite of that. I have a compelling interest to make sure players not in my guild stay alive due to the rally mechanic. I can completely ignore them without it.

The rally mechanic works fine and is in line with other aspects of the game to give players a compelling interest in other players being successful. Super nasty people will be super nasty no matter how you cut it. Without the rally system there is absolutely zero reason for me to care about someone not in my guild.

What kind of answer is that, you won’t care about people if it was changed?

Mass rallying off of kills allows 1 or 2 new people to throw an even fight and this alone causes most of the elitism if not all of it in game.

1 guy dying should not be able to throw a fight that one side was clearly about to win. Why you would want that to stay the same I don’t know.

Donwstate and friendly rallys work great and you can “care about pugs” all you want and keep them up; banners, glyphs, sigils, skills, just pressing F and not leaving them to die, these are working fine.

Most all classes have revive skills already, but aren’t as powerfull and easy to use as the warrior’s banner.

Mesmers have Illusion of Life.
Elementalist have Glyph of renewal.
Necromancers have Signet of Undeath Ect..

Would be nice to see a switch twords classes using their abilities and not relying so much on outnumbering and focusing targets for the rally mechanic to kick in.

I have to agree with xtac the rally mechanic stops a lot of tag commanders in their tracks. When 1 uplevel or inexperienced player dies in the middle of even fight it usually changes the outcome.

I forget what the numbers are but it can revive up to like 8 enemy players or something. The mechanic doesn’t make a lot of sense to me but so many builds and group comps are aimed at focusing targets and survival while downed for rallies, most skill groups probably want it to stay the same.

That sure would be great. If you could see which matchups your friends and guilds are in and join them. Could make switching your home alliance cost like 100 gems, maybe 500, something more affordable anyways.

The biggest issue, that has never been resolved, with WvW is coverage and attrition. EB is one of the pain points in WvW from my experience. Players would rather supply coverage in EB rather then their own BL. I see this on IoJ all the time. Then when you are on your BL and asking for help, no one comes…causes attrition issues, and players leave the BL to go do something more worth while.

It’s not fun scouting to get 1v12 and 5mins passes and NO ONE shows up from your side, tower/camp capped….ect.

I personally think EB should be removed from the game and make WvW more about the BL instead, or make PPT not count towards EB camps. Bring people into the BL and your enforce that you have numbers for a solid defense and offense. As it is now, WvW is too spread out. Epically for low coverage servers.

Reblancing the servers would be a good idea, but as long as server open transfers are an option there will always be number issues. I think server transfers need locks, once you transfer your stuck for ATLEAST 6 months. I am tired of mass exoduses to and from servers in the same month. That is one part of the balancing issue here, something that Anet needs to desperately fix.

6 months between transfers is a little too long. Something like 2 weeks of EoTM prison after you transfer like in season 3 might help. Would keep people from bandwagoning for a quick steamroll or two.

The server caps they used at least kept a little balance. I’m not saying bring them back but I think regulating transfers more would deffinetly help.

Scaling the cost of gems per server was a good idea, fine tuning that could balance more.

5 decent players will not be tied up for any more time with a thief than they would with any of those professions.

Agree to disagree.

The fact that you have to outnumber them 5 to 1 and still the only way to down them is to stack burst, condis and stuns in the brief 1 second flash that their targetable should tell you all you need to know.

Perma stealth in pvp is a strange choice.

What are you going on about? T2 had balance and T3 wasn’t as bad as it is now before players went to DB and increased its size, long before any 2v1 stuff started.

I don’t see a problem with people joining a server to the point its considered FULL status, that is how they should be populated.

Servers are losing population and should not necessarily be propped up because people say they don’t like the scale of WvW fighting.

2v1 is an artificial balancing that keeps servers from rising or dropping as their population dictates.

People feeling a need to be in a certain tier because they demand certain opponents and draining lower tiers of their guilds and glicko to keep up is what I consider to be unbalancing things the most.

With that logic, get rid of Mesmers, Rangers, Necromancers, Elementalists, and Engineers while your at it.

I’ve seen half decent Mesmers, Rangers, necromancers, Elementalists and Engineers all solo, 1v5 and keep them all occupied for 5-10 mins.

5 decent players would not be tied up for 10 mins by any of these classes, you must have seen some newbies getting farmed.

A Mesmer traited for stealth can run for awhile but its not nearly on the level of a thief, and could still use some balancing imo.

I main a rangfer and thieves are the least of my concern. I suggest investing on your armor.

Yeah but your pew pew channels into the Thief even if he stealths. The rest of us have to be able to see him to deal damage. As far as armor, I wear full ascended armor and trinkets and still take close to 7k per Backstab alone. That’s a third of my health pool in one hit, and followed by whip this whip that, Heartseeker, all within a second or two. Stealth itself isn’t the problem, it’s the completely ridiculous damage that goes with it.

Other classes can burst ridiculous damage also, but can’t pop in and out of stealth a bazillion times AND teleport all around while invis.. pfft

Removing white swords did not effect keep captures, they still had their own white swords on the waypoint.

All it did was stop roamers from defending and just backcapping everything instead.

Here’s a solution. 20% of SoS please go to NSP, 20% go to IoJ, and the rest stay put. That way T2 and T3 stay in balance. I think I can speak for all of FA when I say we really are not enjoying this week. We’re not getting good fights, and NSP and IoJ are certainly not enjoying being on the receiving end of our frustration.

People might be waiting to see how HoD does. Maybe the once and future kingmakers can revive T3.

The problem is that stealth isn’t that much overpowered and any player worth a salt already noticed it a long time ago.

You haven’t played a condi theif worth his salt yet. They can load you up with condi’s and stay invis pretty much as long as they like, if you managed to survive the first time they can just rinse and repeat until your cooldowns and are all gone.

That may well be true but judging by reading past posts from the OP and this one I don’t think that this is an issue of too much stealth but rather and issue of just needing to get better at the game. No shame in that unless you can’t admit too it.

The skill level of the player aside stealth if probably the most unbalanced thing about pvp combat. Of course a really good player can work thru that and maybe win but that doesn’t change the fact.

Thieves and moreover stealth do need nurfed.. its not even close to the other classes.. eles with the proper build can evade and heal all day, necros can melt you down in a couple seconds, but at least they cant stealth away at a moments notice.. rangers can zerk pew pew from so far away you have to have nike’s just to attack them.

If NSP and IoJ recruited to reach the size of FA/SoS/DB/YB, that’d likely imbalance a lot of other tiers.

Do people play on tier 7 or 8 for balance? 8 tiers might be too much to fill with the current WvW population. But people keep posting how healthy it is down there so maybe not.

Next sneak attack, what would it be.

Dude, you’re way off base. My server queues EB on most nights, and has significant presence in bls (at least 4 guilds running 10-20, as well as a ton of pugs and roaming guilds). And SBI/GoM can, and frequently do, beat my server in primetime. Every single server in this game, down to t8, is active (ish) in primetime. Any server above t5 can field zergs, literally, around the clock (you just don’t see NSP/IoJ doing it because they’ve had weeks, and weeks, of getting pulverized by stacked t2 servers and their map completion mega zergs).

And by the way you say balance? All I see is 2v1s in t2, and always 1 tier server getting a k train matchup in t3. t2 servers hardly are balanced.

Fielding numbers in primetime and maybe running 1 tag on one of the maps is not very active. As I said that’s ok for NA guilds that just care about fighting during their rally time.

And as for balance T2 did reach a balance for a short time when FA and SoS recuited to even things out, but then turned around and immediately started the 2v1 fest you see now.

Sounds like everything below T2 is basically dead then. At least the server population caps are still off, altho a new balancing system to transfers might help.

If you actally care about balance and matchups then it’s probably T1 – T2 you should be in. Transferring to silver/bronze might work for some NA guilds that just like to fight but I don’t see how it can be recommended for pugs or non NA players.

Farming the 250 gold to xfer donsent take all that long if you really buckle down, there are a lot of different ways to farm gold.

If you were spawn camped I assume you were playing off hours when your server has no coverage. You could always find a guild in your timezone on a different server if your only into skill fights. Or transfer up if you play at different times.

A shame your servers are always stuck in t3, everything below must be so dead if no one bigger is rising up to replace you.

I played on EU and the ping wasn’t so bad, now and then you rubberband but other than that its ok. SFR running blobs on all 4 maps 24 hours a day tho.. is that still happening?

If a server is losing to certain timezones they should recruit for those timezones or failing that people can transfer up if they want more competitive matchups.

You might as well go with the one of the top 3 servers EU or NA, or Tier 2 NA, they are most likely to have something going on whenever you happen to log in.

If you just made your character you can delete it and remake it on a different server, you may still be in the 7 day lockout time so check the server transfer option before you do anything, and put any items you want to save in the bank.

Glicko is not balance. It is a measure of a server’s expected performance at scoring and the PPT scoring system merely indicates population and coverage. Average PPT over 24 hours can be similar across all three servers yet the PPT during each timezone is vastly different. The players in each of those timezones experience either boredom from not having anyone to fight or feelings of futility and low morale. Both experiences drive players away from the game mode.

Balance is an attempt to equalize the populations in each timezone to make matches more fun for everyone. Competition can only happen between teams of equal size.

Yeah read some of these posts, formulas for commanders to determine stacked vs roaming ect.. wow really..

How do you determine if a player has been logged on longer that another and do you tell them that’s enough. BG can talk in the readyup about staying up for 48 hours and chugging red bull to win but players are expected to spend gems to go where they tell them…

A guild or pugmander makes a push in one of your deadzones to bolster the server and suddenly people are coming out of the woodwork.. hmm where they come from why wherent they here when we were outmanned?

I think you misunderstood.

They (As in the 3 servers/leaders) want to set specific weeks for all 3 servers to “Push” in WvW at the “Same” time… (Yes Same time, just as servers do during tournaments.)

Also to have a graphic art type of a trophy to be displayed by the server who wins the “set” push weeks between tournaments. (Due to tourny’s being so far spaced.)

Meaning if JQ/BG/TC decide that on the 12th, started “Push week” all 3 servers would fight tooth and nail against each other without 1 or 2 slacking off. The winner of that week, would get a trophy to display on their website for winning until the next “push” week’s winners.

The trophy idea was even mentioned. (Golden Quaggan graphic art for website display.)

I really think people should listen to the video, fully before assuming things. (Yes I listened to the full video.)

You see it as organizing push weeks, it’s also organizing tanking weeks, to guarantee no one gets pushed too hard. Since when do you need to sign up if you want to play to win… agreed on the trophy that should be every week that people give a dang instead of trolling.

Soo much talk of “self balancing”, when did this become a buzz word people bought into.

There is a balancing in WvW it’s called glicko.

These polititians want to match fix so their proud server does not drop in rank whether they are playing or not, a perfect recipie for imbalance if you ask me.

Have it apply a defensive buff to walls and doors.

Or reduce cost of siege.

Or add a scaling toughness to the buff based on outnumbered vs. greatly outnumbered.

The last one would probably be the least game changing.

Portal is very situational, moa is very situational, time warp is very situational.

I have to agree with Shisx,1658, these are more heavily situational. and you have 60 secs to place the ‘entry’ portal. once you place the ‘exit’ portal, the duration of actual use is 20 secs.. (might be different with certain skills upgraded, but thats the default).
