I suppose, what annoys me the most is that you could remove the engineer entirely from the game, and it wouldn’t change anything.

Sure it would kitten a few people off, but what really does the engineer add to the game, that others don’t do better or easier than we do?

It’s almost painfully obvious that they have great regrets at what scrapper added as well, as it’s been more problems with it than any other specialization in the game. And they still “evaluate” the engineer… that’s just bullkitten.

The Engineer has the shortest cooldown and highest success rate on fast revives of all the professions. The only support oriented profession to combine high, point blank, AoE cleave, and fast reviving. The best profession at managing environments where there are allies and enemies going down.

If you look at it from a PvE damage perspective then I suppose they aren’t as special, hey

Druid, Ventari Rev, Scrapper (if desired), all use Menders just fine.

It’s really just a flaw in the Ele’s personal survivability department vs. melee trains that Clerics amulet did well at covering up.

People saying all support is dead because Eles have to use an amulet with lower personal survivability and everything else unchanged, smh @ that logic

Yes, when I say ‘support’ it’s not might stacking bruisers, rather I see supports as similar to clerics Staff Elementalist and clerics Guardian. Also gonna clarify to say that I was talking about the period right before the xPac where running pure support builds was almost always inferior to running bruisers and carries that happened to have small support potential baked in, pre-expansion.

‘Support role’ became more of a thing when all the healing and reviving potential came about in the xPac is all.

3 Nerfs made no sense, but overall did not break the Engineer or affect its role in the game.

First off, it was finally a time where Medic Gyro and Healing Turret were in balance, and now there is only Healing Turret.

Three nerfs to Medic Gyro users and not Healing Turret users -

  • Medic Gyro cast time increase from instant to .5s
  • Reconstruction field cast time from instant to .5s
  • Bunker Down not giving Regeneration

All these changes mean nothing if you run Healing Turret! They might as well not have even done these. Healing Turret and Elixir Gun are already perma Regen, so the Bunker Down nerf only affects Medic Gyro users.

So basically, these nerfs were totally 100% pointless, and where there were different Scrapper build variations before, now there is one.

Kind of a dumb waste of developer resources but the Engineer is largely unaffected besides one less option.

You don’t know what you are talking about. Even tough it doesn’t have toughness, you have 25 might uptime, protection uptime, regeneration uptime.
with leadership set 100% boon duration, try to fight a Chrono or a Druide
It won’t last long until it is removed.

Time will tell and we’ll see, I’m aware and have played with leadership alongside both boon duration amulets and if you’re betting that Chrono and Druid consider the 1050 concentration amulet a broken, must have, then you shouldn’t be a betting man.

The game will be no where near “first to burst, first to win”. Removing clerics amulet does not magically make this game an FPS twitch-reflexes shooter.

Seeing as it’s just one healer build that lost a favorite amulet, virtually nothing was done about the other things that drastically increase the staying power in PvP combat – Druid, Engineer, and a host of bruiser archetypes.

The game is still, and will be, far slower a killing pace, than in vanilla GW2. Support builds didn’t exist pre-expansion in the meta, and it wasn’t half bad.

That being acknowledged, PvP is exponentially more fun when fights are decided instead of being stalled infinitely after one side takes the lead in pressure/kills.

The patch was a step in the right direction, completely. Everyone I’ve talked to is overjoyed that they either don’t have to play healer ele anymore, or now aren’t falling asleep in teamfights.

The buffs to Mesmer this patch affect skills and traits that the condition build did not even use. The simply make another build, power shatter, semi viable again.

He’s referring to the Domination, Dueling, Chaos, Inspiration, Illusions, Chronomancer build with 9 utility slots build that’s dominated forever

But it’s not really feasible to have a ban phase unless there’s a pick phase after, and people are already used to deciding what they’ll play BEFORE they get into a map.

The pool of competitive players is so small compared to others. You need to think outside of your thought vacuum.

More than just the pro leaguers can use their character to a pretty great potential, and continue to improve. Let’s say the average player performs averagely, and sometimes performs ‘good’ when they focus.

ArenaNet balances with the assumption that the players are playing ‘good’, it doesn’t mean ultra competitive. If you play ‘good’ you will find the meta builds across all professions stack up pretty well against each other in conquest.

Recent DragonHunter nerfs in 2016 kind of go against this principle, as it’s underpowered when you’re playing ‘good’ and vs ‘good’ enemies – this is because occasionally balance in PvP is affected by other game modes.

If Scrappers or Druids, or any class did the damage of ten backstabs in one single auto-attack, the hyperbole is pretty meaningless if it’s not actually standing out in the meta-game as an outlier on the overpowered end. Wait until the balance patch to see, I’m calling no nerfs to Scrapper, but I’m not counting on anything.

After the changes to Scrapper last major patch, the persistence of these threads amounts to a Scissors rant about Rock

the only reason scrapper doesnt look like as much of outlier as it used to be is the presence of condition specs everyone widely agrees to be overtuned

you subtract Macezerkers/Condi Chronos/Reapers and Scrapper is easily capable of being a completely overbearing force in the meta. it has no bad power match ups whatsoever.

I agree. Engineer has too many great skills on short CDs. Doesn’t make any sense at all. Oh, God, the amount of projectile reflection they have is seriously too much. Make their skills absorb projectiles instead of reflect projectiles. Maybe update a trait that allows absorption to become reflection. Engie is in a ridiculously strong state at the moment. When I fight Engies that know what they’re doing there’s literally nothing I can do, unless I’m outrageously lucky.

For the amount of insane sustain they have, their damage needs nerfed. It needs to go one way or the other. They’re basically bunkers with damage. My friends are constantly talking about how they break 700k in games when I’m with them, all while holding points 1v2 and pretty much never dying.

The overall damage that is show at the end may confuse a little. I sam that when have games with alot of sustain, when none team can get an advantage I get bigger damage values. Long story short when I play bunker I get bigger overall damage.

The burstier you are, the less damage you do in general, and the more focused your damage is, the less damage you do in general.

Scrapper has massive damage numbers because it’s sustained AoE damage, the opposite of bursty single target damage.

I’ve not seen scrappers consistently hold against two equally skilled people. Once the sustain is overcome with damage its time for them to hit the hills and run., or stand on point to keep it that last little bit. Show me some pro league examples where scrappers do this 2 on 1 thing and hold point to a stand still on a repeated basis.

This conversation is getting beyond silly.

Yeah this is true, nothing can indefinitely hold 1v2 on point. I’d say the 1v2 uptime of the professions meta builds in holding a point in descending order go: Ele, Engi, Druid, Warrior, Necro/Mes/Rev tied for 5th.

Keep in mind an Engineer running paladin amulet is not a healer, and not even the longest 1v2.

Are all meta builds completely bonkers? Yeah. Look at what your options are though

Scrapper, premier noob stomping profession, really survivable especially at beginner level, really effective against beginner players who simply lock into melee range and trade blows like it’s Runescape classic. Really effective at cleaving downstate, compounded again because people don’t know how to live/kite.

When players have mastered their professions in that they can do damage correctly, and know how to avoid damage, balance between professions is good. In that context, Scrapper is balanced.

For supports, Ele is mandatory, Scrapper or Druid can be taken. So I don’t predict Scrapper to be singled out for nerfs

There are no NPC pirates in this map that interact with players. The secondary mechanic is a periodic 4th capture point (“The Bell”) that awards increasing team score.

There was probably some confusion because once the bell is captured, there is an awesome sequence of cannons blowing up the pirate ship. This is only for flavor, though.

So the article is completely wrong then. Great journalism.

Yeah.. I don’t know what the writers at massively were fed in terms of sources for what the map will be, but it’s completely different to reality.

Gyro stomp isn’t fine imo, Chaith pointed out many reasons why, and they pretty much concord with what I think as well. If it’s fine, allow something similar to other classes

Gyro isn’t a fractal avenger, it’s much better than one.

Looking for “other alternatives”:

Revenant: Shiro/Enchanted daggers to finish your opponent. With 5 or 6 daggers, hit “F” for the daggers to go into a stomping animation.

Should other alternatives be HoT oriented only to carry on with the HoT aspect the gyro is? Or Should they be more widespread?

Kind of has an impact on how you decide what to attach these Stomps to.

If HoT/Elite Specialization it is, well then they should all be attached to the first minor trait same as Scrapper, so that they don’t become dependent of any other traits.

Dragonhunter might be able to Call upon an avenger to stomp for him through virtue of justice if it’s up. Targetting a downed player, hitting F and go, putting the Virtue of Justice on cooldown.

Reaper: Executionner’s Scythe Finishing Blow, makes much sense.

Druid: Black Hole Finish. Body being dragged to Black Hole and gets finished when it comes into contact with it.

Berserker: F1 Zerk state finishes any downed player

Tempest: Overload Cyclone finishes.

Chrono: Well of Eternity Petrify finish or Calamity Finishes foes, Speeding up greatly the downed state dmg to kill foe over 3 secs

I did not point out any reasons why Gyro stomping is too useful, more like it isn’t on the radar of deeply impacting OP skills at all when used for stomping.

Also, you’re really suggesting stomping mechanics, some you’re able to pre-cast an AoE to instantly finish players, some that aren’t interruptable, killable, and none take the place of the HoT class mechanic or ability they are attached to, even temporarily.

It trivializes ressing too much.
Stomping – not so much but the gyro should disappear after 1-2 interrupts on its finishing move instead of trying to finish of someone until it eventually succeeds.

Currently it has a 10 second duration, but it’s more limited by its health pool. If you really want to annoy the Engineer, if you, or allies manage to interrupt it once, you have enough time to kill it with downstate damage alone. It will likely just increase your respawn timer though, cause the Engineer will not be far.. and you’re in downed state.

I think ranger pets should be able to stomp. A stomping necro pet would actually be quite in theme – “pulling the souls of the downed to the grave” kind of thing. An AOE mesmer “Illusion of Death” an aoe auto stomp sounds pretty good as well.

Inventions Traits and Related

Increasing Bunker Down CD by 1s isn’t really nerfing Scrapper sustain if you add bleed, cripple, and buff Inventions condition removal.

It’s just going to be more of Alchemy + Inventions or bust.

The Overshield trait is a good idea. I think it’s not enough, though – I suggest that Overshield ability reduction get increased from 20% to 33%, and summon the gunk at your feet on activation. Going further and reducing the base shield cooldowns by 5 seconds on #4, and 10 seconds on #5, this would make me consider using shield instead of pistol when forced into using a pistol mainhand.

The trait lines that need to become a more complete package are firearms and explosives, though.

I know your post is largely concerned with Inventions, but I’ll digress:

Goals, don’t affect PvE damage, highly increase PvP quality of life, accuracy, and utility of the abilities/weapons supported by Firearms and explosives.

Just want to point out seize the moment is a trait you rarely see in PvP in all 3 seasons, chronophantasma is generally a better option (bunker, condi, whatnot) despite I put StM in my own signature lol. Generally you need chronophantasma if you don’t have dueling or you’ll be quickly deprive of illusion in HoT meta.

Every Bunker Mesmer in S1 ran Quickness, rarely seen after it no longer affected stomps and revives.

hmmm you are saying you have problem fighting a warrior with half health for 30 seconds ?

Just what do you think a Warrior and/or his team are doing while the enemy is getting the War into downed state before instantly popping up at half HP, continuing to get support and fight on?

I’m in support of buffing/reworking the seriously lacking traits, but the greed is real, @Deimos Tel Arin you’ve improved at the game and your understanding of balance, but this thread makes it seem like you’ve completely reverted to the kind of poster you were when you first got the game

ahhhaha yeah you got me, imma greedy with it comes to asking for buffs for my favorite professions (although unfortunately i did not play warrior much in ranked season 1 and season 2 since my skill level is not good enough, even in season 3 i played reaper mostly to get through sapphire and reach ruby) and hmmm thanks for the compliment haha!

well, Chaith, posting up ridiculous buff requests like these tend to get more attention and i can always tweak the buff requests to be more reasonable after feedback from the public. however, too ridiculous buffs request may be ignored as well though.

so, yeah, removing the cooldown for warrior downed skill 3 is too much. imma edit the topic to reflect the feedback i received.

Also you must not suggest Cleansing Ire to activate on consumption instead of on hit, that would dumb down Warrior quite a bit, Warriors that can actually land skills, read, and get around the enemy’s defenses – the difference between them and those of the faceroller variety gets smaller and smaller.

They’re just as guaranteed as quickness stomps were.

In season 1, it was more about the OP build that was Chronobunker. Quickness /stomp ust added to that. Now the build has been adjusted. But quickness Nerf remains.

Time Warp is an 180 second cooldown and is an Elite skill! Up until chronobunker there was no issue with using it for stomps/rezing. And now there are other professions that have just as guaranteed a stomp as Time Warp was before Chronobunker. So if you Nerf one……..

Quickness stomping is not comparable to safe stomping, since you just stacked both stability/invuln with quickness in practice. They’re not comparable cause they’re not mutually exclusive.

Now all stomping is 3 seconds standard, everyone has their ways to guarantee a stomp will fully channel, yes, your Mesmer too, what exactly is the problem again – I can’t really see past your just being upset quickness stomping/reviving was nerfed

Edit: Also I dunno why you are talking about Time Warp enabling quick stomps as if Chrono didn’t have quickness on every stomp and revive from their GM trait that everyone took.

Back then it matched purely on group MMR, instead of being based on pip range first, and sorted by MMR second. The grinding problem was fixed without even touching matchmaking, doing so was an over-compensation.

What’s worse for competition than having a bad player or two guaranteed on your team? Having a team stacked full of the bad players or good players in that pip range.

And you seem to missing my point. A guaranteed stomp is a guaranteed stomp. Doesn’t matter if its 3 seconds or 1.5 seconds.

If a class can maintain stability/stealth throughout a stomp and there’s nothing any one can do to stop it. What difference does make how long it takes? Still no counter play.

Your point being that Impact Strike, any amount of stability, or stealth are guaranteed stomps?

Down somebody in a medium sized fight and attempt finishing with stealth, impact strike, or less than 2-3+ stability stacks and see what happens the majority of the time. Far from guaranteed that you’ll succeed in that with the rate of crowd control flying around.

MMR grouping is when players are grouped with alike MMRs in the pip range, resulting in players rated 7, 7, 7, 7, 7 vs. 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 instead of randomized or equalled out MMR scores per side.

There was just never any need for it, nobody wanted this, just kind of created a flawed matchmaker when it was already hard enough to accurately predict & match odds of winning when the sides were even.

Increasing build diversity

…amulets in the game about 4 are being used in the current meta.

Clerics, Menders, Carrion, Marauder, Paladin, Wanderer, Rabid for the meta Condition war I’ve seen.

Other than Marauder for the power damage carries, most every other profession’s meta build uses their own unique amulet.

100%, the reward track is new content for lots of players, making PvPer’s feel valued in general, I would say.

More unique reward tracks would be awesome, I would hope ArenaNet regularly expands on them to keep the carrot mounted

Wut…remove toughness as a stat on amulets? OP, whatever you’re smoking, I don’t want any. I want to keep my logical thinking.

I agree though that there are too many blocking skills in the game that block for long durations. Even after Chronomancer shield nerfs, they’re still amazing. But if damage wasn’t so high, we wouldn’t need those long duration blocks. That and toughness is the only thing keep anyone alive right now against power builds. Without those, power builds would dominate and condition builds would continue to dominate along with them.

Also, Scrappers are still insanely OP. What you’re asking would indirectly buff their damage, as well as Thieves who already do unacceptable damage.

Obviously ArenaNet wouldn’t remove all toughness amulets, that’d be a bit silly, hey, but for an incredibly clunky implementation, I can see why the OP thought it’d be a step in the right direction, overall.

Unless I misunderstood your suggestion, this would solve nothing. In fact, below average skilled players would complain more for getting matched against better players even if its for 1-2 weeks only.

It would give a temporary boost to the win rate of bottom-o-tha-barrel MMR players

Eh, yeah there is a bit of truth to that. I would put having class balance as a more important goal to maintain than having build diversity, but they’re not the same thing.

Build diversity not better than ever, that’s class balance. If you don’t have one, it means that everyone plays one build which is 30% better than the second build, and not having the other means having every player who plays X class be completely terrible at PvP

Players who quit ranked for reasons like having finished wings/achievements, poor matchmaking, these things are not any justification to reset MMR or ban F2P accounts from ranked seeing as these don’t improve the experience of PvP in gw2.

Resetting MMR is a game wide event, affecting match quality for everyone, it’s not about what the developers can do to to fix help only those that massacred their MMR by grinding 400 losses on safe-pip spot solo queue in early season.

Banning F2P accounts from PvP is a pretty big move for a business like ArenaNet, one which absolutely does not benefit them or the quality of matches. This is because players solo queuing through the progression a second time on an inferior build, that’s one, extremely rare, and two, not affecting match quality in any quantifiable way. If you think it is, please present your evidence to necessitate your suggestion – sighting a pro league player in season 2 who rekt you on a Smurf does not necessitate a change that will affect thousands of F2P’rs

Yeah, everyone is quite defensive, even the damage carries like Reaper/Revenant/Warrior/Mesmer/Dragonhunter. Tons of stability, sustain, blocks. Thief obviously doesn’t, but is completely held in check by sustain and blocks. The supports like Druid/Scrapper/Tempest all have unique levels of damage/group sustain/personal survival/reviving strength, but they’re overall too defensive as well.

If defense was nerfed across the board, that’d be great. As long as Thief was re-evaluated as well.

Balance patch fears, ArenaNet nerfs personal survivability of more support oriented classes heavily, but doesn’t nerf the personal survivability of damage carries.

With all this, Engi’s have a lot of safe stomps, without gyro on top.

Elixir S, their invulnerable skill.
Stability stacking, through their many ways
Invisibility, Combo or Elixir S Toolbar/Sneak Gyro

Which is plenty enough as far as having something that rivals other classes even thief.

My point is, it’s the only kind of stomp that bothers me because it feels too much like a freebie. A default go to, and a lazy stomp ability.

I hardly believe that any scrapper thinks “I should keep my function gyro for an emergency rez instead of using it for a stomp”, as the cooldown is so short, it’ll most likely be up for both the rez and the stomp.

Others have pointed out this also seems as a little extra that is too much and that is my point.

I understand any users of this ability to not want to get a nerf, who ever wants to get nerfed? But with balance in mind and fairness, I do think either it should go, or add other mechanics to other classes that rival this stomp/revive ability considering it’s cooldown.

Function Gyro could be nerfed to not include the stomping capability, and it would not mean much except having to be more careful when bleeding out enemies in downed state, and quality of life speed reduction when cleaning up the last enemy and rotating out.

Just throwing it out there, the revive feature is mutually exclusive with stomping, much stronger, Scrapper isn’t the only profession to have fast revive, (I can do the pros and cons of Scrapper vs. Ranger reviving ability if you dispute this). Most importantly, all of what makes Scrapper good doesn’t have anything to do with Function Gyro stomping people.

My actual reasoning:

  • Scrapper, their downed cleaving is significant for Function Gyro stomp to not be necessary, (unless the Scrapper is outnumbered) – downed people can’t kite Gyro explosions and Hammer hits
  • If the enemy is going to use cooldowns to fast revive, (Strength of the Pack & Allies Aid/Search and Rescue, or Function Gyro & various Gyro defense fields), the stomp will not succeed in time, resulting in zero value, only putting your revive on a 20 second cooldown plus however long that Gyro was alive for no good reason.

Also listing stomping tools like: Sneak Gyro, Elixir S utility skills, Bomb Kit smoke field combos, these things aren’t on people’s bars to be used as stomping tools (or at all) because there are better things Engineers should be doing to guarantee your team dominates than bringing stomping tools.

I stand by this opinion, no matter the comments, snide or not, people calling me whiner or not, I honestly don’t care.

Right then, well, generally not caring attitude when you’re aiming QQ at stuff would explain a few things

Wanderer’s Amulet could be deleted today and virtually impact condition builds none.

Rabid is highly competitive, as is Carrion.

Condition builds are great because of all the power damage-hate that was introduced in the expansion.

So many turds that can be polished into very fun and engaging playstyles. Fresh Air Ele, Melee Guardian weapons, power Mesmer, every damage Ranger build, etc, etc.

The only problem with free stat distribution is that it dumpsters the very fine balance among the top builds that exists currently.

Free stat distribution in PvP right now will look like:

Condi Warrior, Mesmer, Necro, these professions getting a huge boost, running a condition build with condition duration, condition damage, toughness, and vitality. Basically usher in the condipocalypse if they weren’t viable enough.

Balance is centered around having optimal power amulets (Marauder, Paladin) but artificially weakened condition builds due to non-optimal condition build amulets.

If ArenaNet worked some balance-split magic to compensate for stat efficiency power creep it’d be ok..

I find the stomp problematic mainly because of how good it is in a 1v1 or 2v2 situation.

It is good for rezzes, but no more than the ranger rez trait. For stomping however, it changes absolutely nothing. The 2v2 is over once one of the player is down, and in 1v1, you don’t need a gyro to stomp: either you bleed the guy out off point or you stomp him on point, in neither case using your gyro.

This is my experience too. Great tool for reviving, which is good in 2v2s and up. Useless 1v1, far from problematically good. It never helps 1v1 if the enemy dies on point, at best, it can end an often long 1v1 fight three seconds faster, as you can be rotating for 3 seconds instead of stomping if the enemy dies off point.

@Anyone finding themselves getting often Function Gyro stomped, I’m going to drop some optimal strategies – concede the point and not die, if you’ve lost, as any profession can quite easily walk away and survive the Scrapper’s Tranquilizer Dart spam if you commit to escaping. If you were killed outnumbered off point, they wasted more manpower than the 3 seconds Function Gyro will free up by doing the stomping.

In 2v2, the enemy Scrapper can benefit from Function Gyro stomping if you’re being dominated already, but a Scrapper’s bread and butter in 2v2 is reviving their higher damage teammate who gets focused. Focus that non-Scrapper, force him to attempt to revive.

If your perspective is that Gyro/Invuln/Stability stomps are overpowered, I think the core issue is not Function Gyro but rather a player feeling like their problem is anything else but why they’ve gotten themselves in the downed state. In GW2 you control the fight by downing somebody first, or saving cooldowns to immediately revive if your side receives the first downed state.

If your team rallies, revives, or stealths, good on them. If not, RIP the false hopes of living anyways. Things like invuln/safe stomps used to be stronger in the first two years of GW2, but now, reviving is faster and occurs in the first few seconds if it’s going to occur.

The ability for one side to cleave/stomp has to be balanced with the other side’s ability to revive. I’d say at the moment reviving tools across the game, after getting nerfed, are pretty closely balanced with cleave and stomps. If everyone plays perfectly with perfect awareness, I’d say the reviving side is still slightly favored often.

This might blow everyone’s mind but if ArenaNet were to nerf safe stomps it would further favor the ress’ers, and ironically, Engineers using Function Gyro to revive.

A lot of people don’t have access to aware, and coordinated teammates, if this is the case, as when solo queuing, the mentality is, you down, you lose.

The counter to stomping is reviving, so if you or your teammates are facing Engineers/Eles/Mesmers with good stomping ability, you’d best have some Engineers and Druids for good reviving ability.

You should be happy that the enemy Engineer is using a Function Gyro to stomp, it means he’s given up the ability to use it for reviving, which is comparatively much more powerful.

The stomp takes between 3.5-5 seconds and if it dies, accomplishes nothing. Often times stomping is not necessary due to proper corpse cleaving. The function gyro revive starts giving value instantly, and has a much more important task, with a better success rate.

So using Function Gyro as a stomp is an oddly specific thing to consider needing changes when it’s not even among the strongest Scrapper or HoT mechanics.

No, it was set out as You can work on the path of Ascension to get the rewards. Not that it is guaranteed that you will get it. You haven’t met the requirements so far so you haven’t received it, everyone was allowed multiple months to achieve the item. If you started late that’s not Anets fault or anyone else’s.

Yeah. The only ArenaNet promise is to reward the players who complete the meta achievements with the Ascension, send a ticket in to customer support if this fails.

There’s no mistake, the meta achievements have requirements beyond showing up – this is intentional.
