op: dont forget to include total cast times with your numbers. listing out the scaling coefficients (and cds) is misleading.

honestly the only attacks wich could be justified by cast times are Eles
there rest mayb have channeled atacks but those do not take more than 2 seconds

for the autos, eles and revs are justified by long cast times. ranger and mes are conditional. warrior lb has slow projectile speed and doesnt home.

the real takeaway is that the necro auto is severely underpowered with its long cast time and low coefficient, and dh lb is power creeped. not that engi rifle needs a buff.

hence, excluding cast times is misleading.

Agree with all this except necro staff being UP. I’d say this is balanced by the fact that the remaining skills on Necro staff are spammable 1200 range aoe like nothing available to any other profession in the game, and (probably an even better argument) the fact that in addition to damage this skill grants life force.

Lol, Necro staff damage. That thing is for utility and generating life force. That’s it.

Feels off topic man, unfortunate the OP used the worst comparisons to highlight why Rifle needs buff’, cross profession comparisons…

Re: rifle, played it today. Seems extremely difficult to get anything done on Rifle with all the projectile hate, stability, and protection flying around. Its pressure is wimpy and no answer to being trained by enemies with stability when the hammer can counter pressure at least.

That would be a cool idea. Would add the ability for us to not get knocked down when using over-charged shot by using up a stack of stability.

By using Rifle over Hammer we give up a lot of defensive abilities, so getting one 3-sec duration stability stack every 3 seconds in exchange for that would not be bad. I would like a +10% damage increase trait for rifle though :<.

Yes we used to have a 10% Rifle Damage trait, that disappeared once Core Specs came out.

I’d say those are good ideas and probably make overcharged shot be a cone non projectile or unblockable, dunno about juggernaut , perma stability would be crazy

Kinda like the rolling stability Warriors have when they’re berserking from their GM.

Often don’t… probably at least 50% of Scrappers in PvP wear Paladins

Engi do not need a rifle with a long range. We have Nades and Mortar to pew pew at distance.

Do you want to buff rifle?
Make it a shotgun (as it should be)

1 – Hip shot: is no longer a projectile, but a close range shock wave like Guardian Staff AA
2 – Net Shot: It’ ok
3 – Blunderbuss: it’s ok. I would add cripple too, but it’s not necessary
4 – Overcharged Shot: it remains a projectile, but it pierces
5 – Jump shot: Reduce CD or add evade frame

I don’t agree with your design.

In PvE there are already much better options. In WvW/PvP Hip Shot is probably the only Engineer skill that has chasing power. Rifle gets carried by Hip Shot and Overcharged Shot. Blunderbus and Jump Shot are somewhat irrelevant damage sources, and Net Shot is too buggy/unreliable like Glob Shot.

Doing damage at range with Nades and Mortar is a crap shoot against people moving evasively.

I think Rifle needs to be more lethal at medium range when combined with kits.

My design for Rifle:

Hip Shot – Fine.

Net Shot – Projectile tracking added, similar to Hip Shot

Blunderbus – Reduced damage penalty for being farther than 200 units away

Overcharged Shot – Fine.

Jump Shot – Reduced cast time from 1 second to 3/4 second.

Help Rifle Traits to not be awful – Allow Juggernaut to affect Rifle as well as Flamethrower.

Hammer is the problem. I just hope that if/when they decide to nerf Scrapper, they balance Hammer and not make rifle/pistol even more unplayable than they already are.

I don’t think ArenaNet will nerf Elite specs’ basic damage or survivability. They’re finally balanced in PvP, and they’ve never done profession tweaks all at the same time.

The only way you’ll ever want use a Shield or Rifle (no use in PvE either) is if they buff Shield or Rifle.

Every other melee class offers much better tools to hunt down disengaging targets, that should be taken into account if you want to compare classes. 1 very unreliable cripple and 1 stun, thats pretty much all scrappers have

Yeah that’s for sure intentional, solidified by Slick Shoes lockdown getting shafted. Scrappers are pretty dependent on allies to lockdown, dependent on enemies being forced to stand on point, that was a big part in bringing Scrapper down in line with other nerfed professions.

The block is directional and doesn’t save them from standing in my wall of fire or in my mortar fields or if I run through them and about face.

Ahh right then. So according to engi mains on this thread the counter to scrapper is rev, necro, warrior, mes, power and Condi. Just about everything counters their scrapper according to them.

No, two different posters and opinions differ.

To clarify for confused readers, in 1v1s, in my point of view assuming both players are highly competent, Retribution Rev, Druid, Tempest, all stalemates Scrapper. Reaper/Berserker/Chrono will make for a challenging fight depending on build, Invo Revs have an advantage regardless of Scrapper build, and Scrapper counters Thief and Dragonhunter.

And @Supreme who theorizes that Scrapper would never have problems with Invocation revs in 1v1, the reason why that’s wrong is because the Rev can easily avoid AoE, punish melee attempts, and can pop Glint and guarantee a full heal via acid bomb, or attacking Gyros (that blow up). The Scrapper will go down to 20vuln, invo swap nukes.

However, 1v1 matchups are pretty non-relevant these days. People ITT seem to be immediately going to 1v1s to see if something is balanced, which is wrong, imo.

In the Pro League, Druids right now get compared to Scrapper in every way, cause they are the only two professions that can perform a reviving & secondary support role in conquest.

Comparing Scrapper and Druid’s utility and effectiveness is a very good tool ‘cause you can tell balance is good when they’re both special snowflakes in doing the same thing, different ways.

Right now I say balance is better than it’s been for a while. Before the Slick Shoes nerf, Druid was just a Search and Rescue gimmick that had far less killing power than Engineer. Now, it’s pretty bang on.

Pros for Scrapper

  • Superior point pressure, and damage to CC’d/downed targets.
  • Special utilities such as Moa, Bulwark.
  • More frequent fast reviving.

Pros for Druid

  • Slightly better 1v1 matchups.
  • Slightly more mobility.
  • Longer CC effects.
  • Far superior group healing.
  • More infrequent but higher success rate fast revives.

My 2c, I’ve seen a lot of kitten and discussed balance a ton with my peers.

TLDR, All the Elite specs (except DH) are balanced. I hope it doesn’t get royally ruined anytime soon.

Of all the responses to my post about people using exaggerated language, haha.

I think that throughout the game, unranked, ranked, there are things that are strong at a beginner to intermediate level, for example Scrapper and Dragonhunter. It just depends on how you’re looking at it.

Lots of pro leaguers think that Scrapper should not be in a 5 man comp, lots do.

From a pro league perspective Scrapper is balanced, from a ranked PvP perspective, Scrapper probably OP

Resistance is fine as it is. Is resistance a problem to you ? Then use your boonstrip abilities and remove it on the target. Resistance is up again ? Then L2P.

Really Resistance is fine as it is. Just use boon strip and L2P

Overly-simple way to look at something complex.

Good boon strip is just as rare as resistance. Most classes can’t strip a bar of boons to save their lives.

Conditions are pretty prevalent, I’m in the group of people who think resistance should be changed, not cause it’s OP or UP but because it’s healthy for everyone to have balanced amount of counterplay against both power, and conditions.

That’d be fine if condition damage would require 3 stats to be full damage spec, but instead it requires 2 stats.
Condi damage must be adjusted to require precision to crit on conditions, and conditions without precision must be nerfed like power without precision. True that power has a better burst potential, so the overall DoT on full condi glass can be higher.

As of now, untill this is fixed, kitten condition builds and yay to resistance.

Resistance is so rare. There’s only two actually powerful sources in the game, Pain Absorb, Berserker Stance, and I guess I’d add healing signet to make 3.

If you’re an Ele, Engi, Guardian, Mesmer, Necro, Ranger , or Thief, how often do you have resistance? I’m gonna be so bold as to say that it might as well not exist for 77% of the professions.

I’d be happy if there could be resistance sprinkled into traits which will compete with protection/power damage hate traits and utilities across all the classes before we even talk about changing resistance.

Why we need Platinum Division.

There’s occasionally instantly 4 people switching professions to have a balanced comp, when I play on certain divisions, on EU servers especially.

Players have all the tools to play with competitive comps, the only thing standing in the way of that is not caring enough. I think as a playerbase we need to move more towards a culture of class switching.

Look how Overwatch does it.

OW is completely different game with completely different mechanics /faceplam. Heroes in OW are also very balanced since it is pure pvp game.
Class switching is not that much fun in gw2, i am personally sick and tired of switching class so other players can have their “fun” and i am forced into something i hate playing.

@OP: problem with platinum division is that queue times will be even longer :|

When I referenced Overwatch, I was simply referring how the community expectation is there that everyone work together to build a functional comp in quick play. I’m aware the games are completely different, I think GW2 should change.

Also, GW2 inter class balance is amazing at the moment, depending on your skill level. Intra class build diversity isn’t.

While it’s not fun to have to switch your desired hero/class in any game, the quality of life in GW2 should be much improved when class switching.

PvP would be improved so much if you could simply re-skin your character to another profession, from saved templates, inside the ready-up area, and in the mists

No logging out, just open up PvP UI and select the profession and build template from your library. The players had good comps, and lived happily ever after.

I think it’s an improvement over the idea of a division with banned class stacking.

Edit: and a no-peek ready-up area at the start of games, it’s not good to see what the enemy is running right off the bat, it just becomes buildwars2 at some point of competition.

Yet ESL or Arena net is getting these fake people partnered, something real content creators took years to get.

Even docgotgame (Arena Nets biggest streamer and promoter on twitch) agrees that random people who have no business being partnered with twitch, is wrong and bs.

How far is this fake Esport agenda going to go? I mean hardly anyone even plays Structured pvp ranked due to how improperly implemented leagues are.

What the hell does a pretend eSports agenda and who get content creator affiliate links by ArenaNet have to do with each other? The ESL doesn’t have any influence on the content creator program.

Mind if I ask, why bother with GW’s?
Why not a different, wider appealing, more competitive game?

Because my friends and I are good at GW2 after years of dedication, and it’s by far the best opportunity. Overwatch doesn’t even have comparable prizes.

Huh that’s funny, I didn’t lose a single game til upper Ruby and am at Legendary after 85 games. I’m sure its the matchmaker tho!

I watched a legendary player play on another account and get from amber to ruby in like 20 games.

He was really confused and said “Wow, I had really good matchmaking”.

Yep. I hear players from average, to intermediate, to advanced skill levels all saying this. My girlfriend cleared 5 Tiers of Diamond in a sitting, this week, and she’s one that’s typically held her own during a match, but never was an overwhelming force of eSpurts herself

The league has never “levelled out” not in the past seasons and it won’t now. That’s a myth that was used to justify deliberately unfair matchmaking. So taking time off is counter productive.
As to “practically welfare” I think you have a skewed perspective, sir. I need to grind as hard as possible to jump through all the hoops.

I’m just going to point out that you don’t have the best experiences playing through leagues.

You’d be smart to not just dismiss all advice and insist you have to grind 80 more losses, and tank your MMR further. You say taking time off is counter productive, but what’s actually counter productive is just you queuing in general.

I have a good amount of experience with the leagues, and you do have drastically easier matches towards the very end of the season when the majority of competent players have cleared that content and either moved on, or stopped.

Think of all the things in life you could be doing instead of losing 25 times in a row, early Season?

What stage of the Season did you hit Ruby in S2? Maybe you maintain that your loss-grinding all season finally paid off near the end, but I hope you’re not that blind.

Now, it’s becoming very apparent that the wings can’t really be gotten by “everyone.” Posters on the forum even advocate basically denying them to anyone below legendary. This has the potential to become a real credibility problem for ANET.

I don’t think this poses a problem for ArenaNet’s credibility, as their reputation is not damaged if a player can’t achieve the Legendary reward, playing each season as a first-time class, one handed. It poses more of a problem for you.

Despite this, I feel like I’m just repeating myself now, I don’t think it would be a bad thing if everyone could get the Legendary reward, playing each season as a first-timer, one handed. It’s just a graphic, and it’s already practically welfare after 4 seasons of playing.

Why do you constantly cry on the forums that you won’t attain your goal anyways? You made it to Ruby in S2, I’m sure you can do it in S3 and S4. How about waiting until the last few weeks of the Season before going hard on the paint’ with your full time beating your head against the wall. It’s seriously gotta impact your mental health here, take a listen to everyone else on the forums and take a vacation from the hardcore league farming until it’s died down as much as possible.

The safe points make winning the wings a possibility, if a slim one.

As much as some would like to deny it. The wings are the reason many people are playing. Why else would anyone put up with a system that is designed to heavily favor some players and cause loss streaks for others?

Remove the last hope of getting the wings and you lose those players.

Seems you didn’t read my entire post:

“I agree with the guy before who suggested that all the safety spots in the league should be removed, and the Wings become grindable, like they already are for 99% of the population.”

Literally the only thing your posts are concerned about is whether you will get the wings or not, and the people in your boat who desperately want them, but won’t be able to get the Tickets in 4 Seasons, that’s a very small boat.

None the less, I think they might as well make it grindable for the people who can’t always get to Ruby even with abundant no-pip loss points, because if they did that, they’d be able to improve the system’s integrity for everyone, by removing safe points which keep people at much higher divisions than they should be, and heavily messing with the placements.

Resistance is really not fine, just mitigated by there being very few strong kits that include it.

I think in an ideal world it should be weaker, yet more available for those wanting to build tougher against heavy condition pressure without trivializing conditions.

I am a fan of the idea of making players choose between resistance and protection in traits/utilities, and Resistance would be changed to suppress the effect of conditions by 33%, including non-damaging effects.

I think the big reason we’ve seen a rise in Condition builds since the expansion is because Protection and damage reductions have heavily increased, but condition removal frequency hasn’t increased.

The problem is that the player base is dwindling AND high level players are cycling back through the ranks on f2p accounts.

So, not only are the high end queues empty, but the low end queues are invaded by people exploiting being way below there skill level. In doing so, I think they are also driving away most of the pve players that got pulled to the tournament.

If you don’t mind post a screen shot of you winning at least 5 games in a row by an average of 500-100 where you queued with less then three other players. I feel like Ill be waiting a long time.

This is reality for tons of people on NA, average/ lucky player solo queuing practically straight to Diamond before getting a loss, things like that are happening all the time.

Edit: Match quality is terribad like season 2. Match quality in season 1 was great, with the exception of a few things that were mostly fixed.

The matchmaker is completely standing in the way of quality matches, still. The changes weren’t enough, and it’s seemingly 99% the same as Season 2’s match quality.

At Legend:

What season1 matchmaker seems: 10, 10, 9, 2, 2, vs. 7, 7, 7, 7, 7

What season 2 + 3 matchmaker seems: 10, 10, 10, 8, 8, vs. 7, 6, 6, 6, 7

What matchmaking we actually want: 10, 10, 9, 8, 8, vs. 10, 10, 9, 8, 8.

Having equal average team skill is important, but a smaller skill spread then having 2’s and 10’s in the same match.

Scrapper build need help

Good build, tweaking it so elixir B is in, over slick shoes, that’s a smart choice because slicks were nerfed into oblivion.

You have might on stab, and concentration, elixir B makes sense.

Also, conditions are seriously a counter if you come across one. If you run medic gyro, you need elixir C to compensate.

Consider running hoelbrak runes over scrapper to even out your defenses. You’ve pretty much planned to only face power enemies so far

Toxicity in PvP - here's why.

Casuals seem to be a scapegoat for toxicity of this thread. Toxicity is the fault of the toxic people or persons.

In every team game, all the players are going to be salty if individual teammates are getting dumpstered due to poor connection, bad builds, talking on the phone, screaming kids/parents in the background, you name it.

I’m guilty of being salty @ bad teammates, but as per the unspoken internet code of conduct, don’t start verbally abusing people in GW2 team chat. If you do, you’re at fault.

Instead of alienating a significant player demographic by simply denying them the PvP Achievements/League progress, I suggest a positive sportsmanship program, and the ability to meaningfully rate players on their sportsmanship, (or toxicity) in a way that incentivizes shutting the hell up instead of expressing how crap your teammates are compared to you.

Toss in some serious reward track progress boosts for a clean bill of sportsmanship, and you have a happier playerbase.

And you believe such a system could not be abused? Silencing people who are mad because of a problem does not fix the problem. It only frustrates people.
You need to fix the problem not silence its effects.

The last game I played with you at the end of the game you said “I hate you all” and proceeded to contradict your statements in this thread.

You wanna know the kicker? You were on rev queueing like hell to get good at it. So while your rotations were top notch your mechanical skill was a liability….and we still ended up winning the match with a terrible comp.

No idea what you’re on about, my sportsmanship and effort towards winning in game is good, and I rarely ever speak in team or map.

PvPers have every means to make a Gift of Fortune. I have a full stack of Mystic Clovers, more Laurels (t6 mats) then I know what to do with, Ectos I have stacks of just from Salvaging reward track Rares! That’s all it consists of.

If someone in the street cannot control his anger, turns upset easily and throw some insults because it is getting out without control, I see how this person needs to channel his anger. It can be done either by medication or discussion.
In the present case, people get upset and take time to type on their keyboard, sometimes read what they have written before pushing Enter. It is like a forum, it is not as spontaneous. In that case I tend to think that people know what they are doing and do it on purpose : they want to be toxic towards someone.

There can be several reason (“you hurt my ego, I hurt yours in front of others”, “If I am mean enough to someone it will create a reaction in his gameplay”…..) but I don’t think it is a medical issue.

I don’t know but i was cyber bullied on here once a while back by some one I killed in pvp repeatedly, and that’s all I did, I didn’t speak 1 word to him, just killed him every time he came near my point. And he got so mad and started calling me the worst name he could think of, it was bad but what made it worse was he got everyone on his team to call me that word too. I felt soo bad that I just wanted to go some where and hide. So that kind of abuse does bad things to people and it should not be excused or permitted. If meds and or therapy would help them to not harm others that way then they should do it, and if they are just hateful cruel people they shouldn’t be allowed any where near the internet ever. That’s my thoughts on the subject

You might find this funny – but people who insult others or are just verbally abusive are not people that should be put on meds. Trust me – I work in this field and know what I’m talking about.

If people who insult and verbally abuse others should be medicated – you’d be medicating 99% of the world’s population.

The best way to avoid harm is to try to do your own part in being stronger and more capable in dealing with this sort of thing. Silencing people isn’t the answer.
Whether they’re wrong or right – people will speak out – it’s a fundamental right.
Their freedom means they’re also free to be mean to you if they so wish. Even if Anet doesn’t necessarily support it.

Who said anything about silencing people? The block feature works fine.

You’re equating giving a cookie to people that are up voted for sportsmanship, with something completely different.

If it’s your calling to rip a strip off your teammates, and annoy every player in the vicinity, God bless America, you can still do that. Just don’t expect a cookie for good behavior.

I think engineer is actually pretty balanced. Apart from those issues all classes have like no build diversity or elite specialications much strong then core specialisations.

Agreed, I made a post suggesting buffs to un-used Engi/Scrapper things in a previous patch before Druid/Chrono/Mercenary Amulet was nerfed, and they’re just chirping me

It just depends on what you consider non -meta. If you don’t run Elite specs, you’re simply worse. Elite specs are often narrow in how they can be ran optimally.

This thread would have merit if the game wasn’t balanced around having elite specs. Non meta builds are worse than ever, on average

It’s not that the skill floor or ceiling have been seriously changed, what’s happened in this last year is that we’ve just gotten more of everything, so it takes longer to bait out cooldowns and combat has been slowed down quite a bit.

By no means would i call this slower. As you indicated we got more from everything, that means more ‘everything’ is casted in the time period.
Having to count on more CDs is harder indeed, but is not necessarily changing the skill level to be Higher. We actually have “more everything” to a level where you can get away with multiple stupid mistakes without punisment, couse if you wasted something then you can just smash another button and it’s ‘K’, then maybe use a kite-puzle as before. Like…. ESL is full with holder-Brusier comps where engis dodgeroll mid elixir-s cast reflect when war switched to mace and all that stupid stuff w/o even thinking about the outcome. I mean… You are in one of the most successful teams ever, you should know how it the game works now.
Think about it… Other games got theyr cheezy forgiving heros/champions/builds and they are good to roll ppl with in pugs, but they see little play in pro scene couse other specs that require more skill and tactics are overperforming in in a good player’s hand. This is not the case in GW. The “ESL-meta” is to play the most forgiving cheese kitten couse that’s the most effective and has the least counterplay. And the same is carryed to the casual/pug scene aswell.

You said you wouldn’t call the combat slower by any means and then rant about how everyone’s running forgiving, skill-less, unkillable, builds.

Right, then.

Also all classes have these gimmicks now and it feels like the skill floor is hitting rock bottom, skill ceiling…I dunno maybe Chaith can better judge that as I’m sure I’m not near most classes max potential.

You’re referencing giant open field small-scale scenarios in WvW? Hugely favor certain classes defensive styles to the point of frustration I’m sure. Doesn’t mean that Thief’s defensive style should be changed, just that giant open field small-scale scenarios in WvW are crazy imbalanced

I like how everyone is seemingly just picking out two classes that stood out the most in their last match, but there really seems to be no OP classes standing out this season of ranked. I dare say that even Dragonhunter will probably be mostly perceived as fine, occasionally OP for non veterans who don’t compete.. balance SeemsGood overall, besides DH weakness in competitive.

One of the hardest things to do in this game is lose a 1v1 to a thief on an engi.

A serious lack of skills is required

It’s actually a bit counter intuitive. For the average Thief v Engi interaction, if you try and apply hammer damage to the Thief it becomes possible to die, (however unlikely he’ll go hard on you enough) but if you just sit on a point and press 1111 in Elixir gun, and use your defensives, it’s impossible to lose.

I can totally see Engineers running Marauder amulet die to thief until they realize that being aggressive is pointless.

Why necro's are not treated fairly

OP’s point is that Necro is underpowered, and the supporting reasoning are 2012 gw2 wiki entries, and how the grass is greener for Mesmer, Engineers, and Eles.

When you actually log in to these classes you claim have oh so much build diversity and everything at their disposal, you’re in for a fun realization – everything you think about other classes is a lie. Nobody has everything or wide open viable build options.

Back to the basics here, Necro is not even the most immobile with Shroud 2 leap on 6s CD, adequate swiftness uptime from Warhorn, and chills for fleeing/pursuing enemies.

If you want to know Necro’s real weakness, it’s that it’s the worst class at coping with outnumbered situations, and requires fast rotations, healing, or reviving support to survive against aggressive focus fire.

Function Gyro

Been bugged since the beginning, Function Gyro doesn’t give stab when traited to do so, and the F-Gyro tooltip is bugged to say that it grants 2 stability when you have Perfectly Weighted trait equipped, as you’ve noticed.

The F-Gyro tooltip should mention 1 stack of stability in blue when traited with Final Salvo, (and actually give stability) and not ever mention stability when Perfectly Weighted is equipped.

It’s completely confusing and buggy and has been for months

I think it worked when the stab on function gyro was a minor trait? But yeah, it’s bugged now and I’ve lost several outnumbered fights in WvW because of it.

The beginning as in, when Final Salvo started giving stability, some months ago.

It did work fine when stab for f-gyro was on adept
