Again, you’d have to be crazy to fight one. Reapers are why Scrappers, Druids, and Tempests cannot rise. The sole. Reason. But I’m not salty. Not even a tiny bit. I play Reaper too. Troll and legit builds.

Reaper and Revenant are the only builds in the game that can put enough pressure to get a kill, and have a shot at survival.

Scrapper, Druid, Tempest style builds necessitate crazy boon rip, chill, and damage.

It’s simply a matter if ArenaNet’s next balance patch will simultaneously dumpster Scrapper, Druid & Tempest healing, at the same time as Reaper and Revenant pressure..

Function Gyro 2.0

Cross profession comparisons are generally not the best, especially when everything is in context of the whole kit.

Sure, Function Gyro is no Celestial Avatar, as a class mechanic, or Search and Rescue utility, but Scrapper clearly does okay.

Try to understand, F-Gyro is a very very weird and thematically weak Elite spec mechanic, especially because it’s not even unique or defining at what it does.

In the case that Scrapper’s ability kit gets nerfed hard, this Elite class mechanic should really be high priority to be reworked to be a role defining ability.

People are just rightfully salty in the Scrapper class mechanic is captured and exceeded elsewhere. Balance aside

I stream unranked, and it isn’t the end of the world once your volatility and matchmaking settles.

It’s really just halting any sense of progression for the average player, and isn’t that what we play MMOs for? I don’t see why the in game seasons aren’t back to back. Has any MMO done this before? Very strange indeed.

Scrapper would be considerably easier if you could Rocket Charge and not worry about being counter pressured.

Currently when you’re being zerged and you Rocket Charge, you sustain a ton of damage between the intermittent evade frames, and that’s kind of how it should be.

No class stacking in ESLs isn’t really a band-aid for me. There would always be more optimal builds to be stacked, champions/heroes in MOBAs would be stacked too in many cases if you could get more than 1 per team. This rule is just a obvious thing for me.

So you want to acknowledge double profession stacking is fine because there is no balance to check it since they are optimal?

He’s just saying that in any battle arena type game, when it comes to ‘picks’ there will always be rules in place to mitigate potential balance issues.

Whether it’s a picking/banning phase, a rule that only one instance of a type of class can be brought, – really it depends on what makes sense for that game.

Not so much saying class stacking is ‘fine’ more like saying it’s a separate issue than what rules are good for a competitive and fun game.

Probably should’ve been the rule from the start, even if balance is flawless at the time, it will always vary heavily on the current patch in MMOs.

so dont get me wrong rev is still strong (in the same tier as thief now), but all things considered it’s folly to say thief is “irrelevant” when it can outperform revenant as a power DPS slot.

Agree to disagree, I’d run two Revenants over a Thief any day, and I think every pro team would say the same, until I see otherwise

Well scrapper is definitely good, but dps rev are the new thiefs with more damage similar survivability as scrappers…

Not sure if you’re delusional or your abysmal engi plays made that statement, thiefs are more relevant now due to the new class stacking rule because anet can’t balance(anymore if a class is overpowered).

Yeah, the ‘no class stacking’ rule will possibly only require 4 unique professions, rather than 5. So Thief is still irrelevant if double Rev is an option.

The reason people don’t run fresh air hasn’t changed. It’s the same reason why people don’t run DPS Engineer, Warrior, Mesmer, Guardian, Ranger.

Coz’ it’s pretty much impossible to kill Scrapper, Druid, or Tempest, and pretty much impossible to stay alive against unrelenting Revs and Necro shut down.

Unranked season is pretty good for inflating the e – peen though, haha.

The problem with Gyro pathing is not that it’s slow.

The problem is that when the gyro catches up with you, if it touches your character model, it gets immobilized for 2 seconds.

If you zig zag properly and don’t run through the gyro ever it will do a better job of keeping up.

Making them move at the speed of light to follow you won’t help if they stop moving for 2 seconds all the time.

Rotations are crucial in a DPS meta, you will die fast when out rotated.

All there was to do in the Bunker Meta was to match numbers. Almost never were fights lost due to getting outnumbered by faster or better rotations – react and match numbers, EZ revive, and the fight is completely anew.

Also, the times where on Foefire, one team gets 4 kills on Graveyard in 2 minutes, but can’t decap the enemy captured point. (ORNG Vs. Car Crash).

Fights that don’t end simply rob the player’s of getting the capture point they are dominating. Incredibly deflating.

TLDR: S1 Bunker Meta is 90% rotation dependent, yes, but only because the mechanical skill dependency shrunk from 50% to 10%.

Easy for you to talk..you’re a scrapper that can still hold vs X, can 1vs1 anyone and win the majority and basically good at being a pain in the kitten , unfortunately there are professions like ele , badly designed that have always relied on gimmicks to stay alive and as to be expected from the “designers” who came up with the concept in the first place, their idea of fixing the so called “cancerous bunker meta” was to remove that gimmick.

I can’t bare all the whiteknights who keep accusing the players for using what they must in order not to win..but to merely play the game at all; both eles and mesmers have been asking for concise buffs to the core concept for years, no weeks, no month..for years

Nobody has ever asked to hold 3-4 people on a point, nobody has ever asked to win every single fight, people have only been asking to have fun in this game, like to finally stop swinging between OP and UP

-It’s right to remove the gimmicks? yes it is
-It’s fair to remove the gimmick while not fixing the issue that created it?..No absolutely not

What the hell kind of response was that, I’m not talking in the least bit about profession balance.

Profession balance is a completely separate issue from the issues I am talking about that were observed in the last Bunker Meta.

Dragonhunters were nerfed to balance it better at lower divisions, at high divisions, Dragonhunters are just worse & slightly different Revenants/Scrappers.

Cry nerf but it’d probably be bad to change DH for the worse, ever. If anything, buff them with some mechanic to heighten how good they can be if they master a really difficult/skillful mechanic.

Chaith, I believe that you see the Dh from a scrapper point of view. From my elementalist point of view, Dh are quite strong. Though, so are any other classes for that purpose. Ele is garbage.

This might sound savage but from your glass lightningrod ele point of view, everything looks quite strong. I wasn’t speaking from a Scrapper 1v1 perspective more like, observing the win rate of DH’s throughout league play and pro league.

I’ve always said that Gyros should be simply weapons/effects used by the Engineer rather than pets.

They don’t need a separate NPC identity. They’d be infinitely more tolerable if they just hovered over the Engineer’s shoulder and did their duties:

  • Bulwark Gyro just being a pulsing ‘Watchful Eye’ buff Aura to allies for a short duration.
  • Shredder Gyro creating a persistent Whirl & damage effect in an AoE that takes on the Engineer’s attributes.
  • Blast Gyro as just a slow moving projectile through the air and exploding on impact, taking the Engineer’s attributes.
  • Purge Gyro just being a pulsing Condition Removal aura for a short duration.

Instead we have clutter & A.I, sadboys.

That’s why these topics are more a whine: “I hate pvp” than an actual suggestion.

You post a lot about other people making assumptions yet you make a ton of them with no facts to back it up at all. In fact one of the first things I said was I enjoy pvp a lot. As a matter of fact the only reason I play mmos is because of pvp since the days of Ultima Online up to Darkfall until that died. Now I am playing this game for pvp. You are just wrong.

I did not create this thread because I hate pvp as you pointed out with not a single fact to go on. I created it because well numbers speak for themselves. People do not care to watch it period. Anet does not balance or take time on the balance they do put out, the intervals are just to far apart. Those are not assumptions those are facts.

I enjoy this game and want what is best for it that is why I asked how others feel about it as well. I completely understand what some of you guys are saying that it most likely makes it’s money back but just because you make more money then you spent on something that does not always mean it is what is best for the game. That can apply to many aspects of any business not just a marketing budget in a mmo.

I explained why I think your topic is a whine about “I hate PvP”, I didn’t just say the quote you cherry picked. I would probably edit that to: “I don’t care about the competitive PvP scene, so it should go away.”

You created this thread because numbers speak for themselves, and people do not care to watch it, period.

So when is GW2 being watched on Twitch? PvP content is not a minority of the GW2 small twitch viewership. I don’t have statistics but I would peg it at a majority. I disagree with you that ‘the numbers speak for themselves’, because I think you interpret GW2’s viewership in a really bad way.

Your reasoning for competitive GW2 marketing budget should be spent ‘elsewhere’, as if the marketing budget can just go towards game development, or dealing with in-game issues. Devs have said many times that the allocated funds are not detracting from other areas. It is the budget for building a community based around the game’s features.

What’s the likelihood of events based on competitive WvW, competitive Fractals, competitive raiding scenes and events taking off and getting lots of viewership? Perhaps the budget for creating events & viewership would be better placed in one of these options? If you made an alternative case instead of just ‘anywhere but competitive PvP’ I would be less inclined to label you as a simple hater of the competitive PvP scene, bro.

You can cite Amber shopping, and refusal of ArenaNet to harshly, and quickly ban trolls (chronic botters, AFKers), as reasons why it’s ‘failing’, but they’re absolutely not related to competitive events (leagues are casual, not even loosely ‘esports’), not to mention that methods to easy-climb leagues have been dealt with already..

These are the reasons why I think your OP was extremely non-constructive and just seeing who else wanted to whine and ridicule ArenaNet’s progress towards growing a bigger competitive scene.

But nearly all players lack the foundation enough for those top level “secrets”. I do however support a coaching system where a coach has classes for certain MMR brackets. They’d be paid in real life money, gems, or gold (coach accepts which currency) and would take place in coaching arenas. They’re almost exactly like current arenas but where everyone is green until they go into established parties or agree to a duel or whatever to get in some practice. The coach will gauge the students’ weaknesses and see where they need improving or even if their play style agrees with their chosen class. Other classes could involve things like Teamspeak, MasqVox, strengths and weaknesses of different Teamspeak programs, and other factors outside the scope of mechanical skill and when and where to rotate. Coaches should be at least diamond level MMR (similar to Platinum on League of Legends where they’re better than 98.5% of other players) and ESL experience.

Novices would learn things like, “Why you shouldn’t attack beast at the start of Forest or rush lord at the start of Legacy and why you shouldn’t blow all your endurance and energy when starting a match” whereas intermediates would have all this knowledge and would need to learn more specific things. Advanced players would focus on polishing rough edges in rotations and technique enough to break out of gold/ruby while diamond players (coaching this level would be reserved for legendary or the top .1% since they have knowledge that diamonds lack) would learn even more advanced techniques, since other diamonds share the same level of technique and knowledge they do but the problem for anyone at this level (in any game) is finding that little something extra to push you ahead.

That’s a cool thing that’s in LoL, but while very off topic, probably won’t be a popular resource in GW2 until we’ve established a skill based league.

18k Test of Faith hits in PvP is certainly impossible, even on the squishiest target.

Dragonhunters were just nerfed, their trap dazes being reduced in duration as well as becoming blockable, and Test of Faith getting damage nerf on activation.

If that doesn’t make you feel good, just remember that all Dragonhunters get dunked the minute people run good builds and have the reflexes to avoid the wombo combo

@Evan, in my humble opinion, we need tighter MMR grouping and longer unranked queues if necessary.

Extremely large skill discrepancy within teams

What we really need, is to have PRO league players mentoring other team as COACH to make more high MMR players.

Stop keeping all your secrets, share and let people evolved to get better matches.

Yeah I know it’s just an opinion, but there will always be those who don’t share my views, who probably never face a good premade ever in PvP and experienced the frustration of last meta

You are making assumptions about people who are saying that less funding should go into esports instead of actually addressing their argument. The issue is that esports is not big enough nor will it ever be big enough for gw2 with the way things are as I again, stated above.

What matters isn’t the types of groups people have played against in PvP, that is secondary. PvP exists and people play it and that is how it should be until a majority of the community gets behind the game mode and tries to promote it as an Esport. However; currently there is very little support from the playerbase to push it as an esport among other issues.

Saying esports isn’t big enough to be worth advertising is a bit of an assumption too, mate.

As for your points that you seem to think I’m dodging, yes, you’ve raised concerns about why gw2 won’t be a tier 1 esport game. They’re just not new or particularly inspiring to individually respond to each. I’m not saying it will suddenly become the next Tier 1 name in esports either, but the point you make that Competitive PvP is already not big enough to justify the advertising you can’t possibly back up. ArenaNet is very adamant on the fact that PvP is growing with their statements, and they’ve gotten acceptable returns from the advertising. We’ll not necessarily see a budget increase further, but it’s absolutely not unreasonable to take them at their word. Who is credible, those with high level views of direct and indirect sources of income, or players who are trying to guesstimate the gemstore sales from new players…

It’s OK to think you know better on issues you can form an opinion on, such as what’s fun for the majority of people, or game balance, but all the arguments are based on the assumption that the advertising investment isn’t giving enough return are conspiracies. If the Snowden of gw2 releases data that contradicts ArenaNet’s statements, I think that’d be the time to get on board trying to change what ArenaNet advertises to generate growth, but not before.

Even with Final Salvo equipped, Function Gyro does not give the Engineer stability, only the Gyro. Every other Gyro gives stability to both the user and Gyro.

Class stacking is prohibited in upcoming seasons of pro league, but in less organized environments such as casual unranked & ranked play, it will remain, I assume.

Having a fun and balanced game extends past ‘esports’, profession & amulet balance is objectively better than pre-patch.

ArenaNet caters balance for all skill levels, too. Not just ‘esports’. They nerfed Tempest hard, and Dragonhunter a little bit because they’re dominant at lower divisions. PvP Profession & Amulet balance isn’t perfect, but objectively better than pre patch. If you’re very upset about how your stat options are limited, remember that’s the way PvP’s always been

What I care because players of e-sports does not have to balls to come together and stop abusing some builds and amulets, the element choice disappearing more and more from GW2 PVP.

While e-sports players could not stop to abuse 2x bunker Mesmer 2xRevenant compositions, because 30 players who could potentially earn 200 000$ for normal people we have 4 less amulets, 100 less variations over the professions.

I don’t care about GW2 e-sport and I am sick and tired of the effects that it has over normal pvp players.

Forming an agreement amongst the Pro League teams to not play the last meta’s Bunker Mesmer, every player would have to be on board, or it would dissolve. The inability of pro players to go and do this wasn’t the reason that ArenaNet made changes.

Taking the game to the highest level does put imbalance under a magnifying glass. No internal testing or developer theorycrafting can be as strong as what the Pro League can discover.

It’s better to know what’s broken then to have it fly under the radar. Blame the players who discovered OP combinations, or blame the state of balance? Don’t hate the player, change the game, kinda deal, bro.

Also, ArenaNet removed 4 Amulets and added 4 Amulets, you do the math man. . Class balance is much more fun now, in my opinion. It’s bad that Mesmer, Ele, & War are in a terrible spot now (warrior still??), but better than 80% of slots going to Mes/Rev representation in any organized group.

I’m just surprised you think it’s a downgrade. To each their own, no balance patch can please everyone.

If competitive PvP dies, it’s not something as simple as shifting priorities. These ‘euthanize PvP’ mentalities & threads don’t take into account the fact that having functional PvP is staple feature of the MMO genre.

Cynics think that the competitive PvP scene’s size is a joke, but few realize that an MMO having a scene and then dumpstering it absolutely reeks of ‘dead game’. It’d be a huge blow to GW2’s image.

Obviously, ArenaNet is either making enough returns, from the marketing expenses, or it’d cause more damage than good to cut competitive funding now, or they’d have cut funding already, or not have doubled the marketing budget from last year. That’s why these topics are more a whine: “I hate pvp” than an actual suggestion.

The marketing budget that ArenaNet has is allocated towards different layers of communication. Having a Twitch presence of 3k-10k from PvP, it’s worth having in conjunction with other advertising channels.

The big flaw in ‘cut competitive funding’ threads is that if competitive GW2 dies, it’s not gonna remove development limitations on game balance or WvW.

Marketing and development priorities are not locked in stone, they can be reallocated if priorities change. It would be foolish of them to continue throwing the same amount of money and development resources towards a defunct element of the game.

What metric are you observing to get the conclusion that PvP is not functioning?

I find it hilariously mistimed that the OP brings up “This meta is boring to watch.”.

You haven’t even seen a match under this balance patch yet. I’ve only done a couple high level scrims but this patch is fun to play and watch. In season two, class stacking is prohibited in the pro league, as well, which adds to viewability further.

Also, when did ArenaNet fix the bug where high ranking players in leagues couldn’t get queue pops, and punish resulting Amber shopping? Definitely before you made this post.

We know season one wasn’t good. All valid points applicable to the last 3 months are out there.

Yeah killing pets is pointless. Let’s not talk of killing pets that can just be instantly reset by swapping before it dies.

Balance is just in a weird spot. Druid is not particularly dominant in their own right. We’ve been given a Druid who’s balanced around Bristleback and Smokescale doing a super high proportion of the Druid’s pressure, and now we have 2 God tier pets, and 30 benched pets who can never compare.

I cleared Legend solo queuing without HoT with a high win rate (73-76%). Some core gw2 builds really counter the commonly used professions in people stack for leagues.

Aside from queing with pz members though in your case that was pretty likely to reduce que times wich anet is more to blaim for then you or players with the same situation its also on Anet for not correcting piploss vs premade guildgroups (lost 2 pips multiple times sometimes only with a <100 diference

I’m not talking about my main account which has HoT and has team queued…

I’ve seen 16khp players insta die to Glyph of the Tides → Ancient Seeds proc, → F2. Losing to Cele Druid in 4 seconds. Really, Bristleback has too much burst potential, everyone thinks this, but few are able to really hit that home with any consistency.
