because it actually is a dungeon that requires team play, imho.
The cutpurses deal insane amount of damage and bleeds while the riflemens snipe at you and triple damage you if you are moving. Not speaking of the bombers either or healing kbing frigging thugs
Every professions can make this dungeon easy:
- hunters have the heal zone & multiple roots / chills
- elems can go focus and also chill
- necro can blind, cure conditions, plague blind indefinitely
- guardians have walls, blindness, condition curing, zone controls, …
- warriors can do insane amount of damage… wait… they can go warhorn
- mesmer can feedback, cure condition, time warp
- engineers can blind, cure condition, put up walls
- thief can blind, wall and some other stuff i guess
if you are in a group where nobody is at minimum:
- curing conditions some of the time
- blinding some of the time
- blocking projectiles / reflecting them
then yes, you will have a hard time in the dungeon.
Also, some packs (after victoria P1, after Wahlen P3) can be skipped. They are hell even on organised groups.
Because when you are in an annoying group, the only thing i wanna do is get out of it as fast as possible

And what Dresden says is also one of the reasons why I tend to stop launching dungeons because if I launch, I have to ask at the end of the dungeon if everyone had their loot or look if every body has left the instance and so on… like he said, instance system is stupid.
(and Dresden if you ever groupped with me, and that happenned to you, my bad, I really do try not to leave too soon when I launch)

I run all dungeon except AC, be it before patch or after… I just hate it. But what i usually tend to run are arahs and CMs. If you are on EU, whisp me, i group with pugs all the time (just for kicks… huh fun i mean)

Take a guardian, make him use aegis + focus n°5 right before he starts launching the projectiles… and you get tons of blocks… while there are still no red circles… (i really need to get filming back on my computer)
Oh, and, generally, going towards him, or away from him is better than going left or right in regards to projectile evasion. Well that is how I feel
But in regards to bugged projectile, this is not the only boss ^^ Bella on path 2 with meteor is quite funny when you see the projectile… following the players hahahaha and the player ragequitting because he does not understand. It is also the same with harpies in fractal 10+ runs and so on… there are tons of projectiles that are in the end “targeted” unless evaded instead of really going where the red circle says it’s going.

We went to arah, everything went pretty much fine until after Lupicus. First we had to kill the NPC to get the waypoint. And finally on arriving to the last boss… the NPC was with us, but the boss would not activate.
A screen of the group. It’s a pain to get such a bug on the last boss especially after an hour and a half in teh dungeon. At least for the P2 bug with Bella, it’s the first boss and it takes 2 min to get to her… but here, it’s the last one…

because the way point for the tar boss is actually on path 3… instead of being on path 1…
sorry but… rofl not everything can be faceroll. And for information, path 4 is actually easier than path 1, or at least, less annoying in regards to the boss fights; especially since the patch.
The paths ain’t that hard any way, they just take longer than pretty much every other dungeon in game except fractals. If you want to run it with people who enjoy it, i invite you to lookup either the arah vet thread or the european equivalent

Again last night I got kitten for no reason whatsoever that I could not understand how I got downed So, I decided on suggesting changes that, in my eye, are important.
Combat:
- Fix the targetting system with tab. It randomly selects a target and even sometime won’t select a target you actually are in combat with
- Also fix the stupid target switches when the monsters goes out of camera view (especially happens when downed)
- Fix the rally => sometimes you kill monsters while downed but still not rally (ie: lupicus locusts is one for sure, there are other, but can’t remember)
Combat logs:
- Add seconds to the timestamp in combat log
- Add a downed and *rally" line in combat log. So you actually know which damage took you down. (Got a 2.2k toughness guardian and lost 14k life at the same instant. Have no idea from what.)
- Make cadaver actually show the damage in combat log (arah)
- Make all attacks actually show in the combat log
Chat:
- Why do you remove group party chat once you are out of the group ? It’s a pain in the kitten sometimes.
- Make it so we can create or own chat canals that can span servers / maps
- Why sometimes you don’t have the invite / join options ? But you can still join / invite through command line / party
Guild:
- Make WotD print (as option) when you log onto a toon

That kind of leaderboard would be detrimental to PvE. Since to clean as fast as possible dungeons you would only take some professions and not others. Same for less damage taken, etc…
Since when do you let that boss pop the little wraith ^^ ?
And if the wraith pop, just kill them fast or you are gonna go down fast. They hurt way more than the boss, especially when you have corruption stacks ^^

And the guild is not a guild, think more of it along the line of a group list to find like minded people and if they are online or not.
Haza: server is unimportant as long as you are on EU server. Seems I even was able to guild an NA guy… but could not group with him in the dungeon If you are on NA server, check the other Arah vet grouping thread.
Though arah can be done naked… I’d rather have people with a minimum amount of stuff, especially if they are beginning arah. And bring potions too to help yourself ^^ And pretty please, no MF… it gets annoying to rez those all the time. And it is useless anyway since we skip tons of trash mobs in Arah, whatever the path.
Well, had some fun today with her sparks would pop and she would not ^^ Was petrified, but still could fight…
I am betting the timer for the sparks is not the same as for her invisibility hahahaha
Completely bugged, but at least now, even with a group doing everything wrong, you can still down her.
Oh, and the 50% invi bug is actually a bug. Thread somewhere about it and an answer from a dev too. Solution: fully reset her a few times usually
trying asking for people that have run the dungeon before instead of experienced.
I am pretty sure some will say they are experienced, like I am, but don’t know Catacombs, like I do ^^ Thus, just asking for experienced could be misinterpreted.
And for those of you thinking, duh, they stupid if they don’t understand what “I said/thought”, then remember: we are not all english. Some have a lesser understanding of it. So be precise, and maybe you will have… better people joining ?

About 2 days ago we cleaned all the packs before Bella. Something we don’t usually do Got to her…. and she would just not engage.
We tried:
- going all after the zone => wall popped and was destroyed
- going all before the zone => wall poppend and was destroyed
Still she would not engage.
Have no idea why.

Lupicus or Alpha are not one mistake fail encounters. The first one requires to be attentive and KNOW the boss animations. While the second one requires one to be able to time one’s dodge correctly and there is a lot of margin of error.
Though, these 2 bosses are easier to melee once everybody knows what to do, they get down fast and easy.

Lupicus is like the most fun boss it the game.
Regarding the aggro, it is actually a set of things which is pretty weird. With my toughy guardian I will always have P3 aggro except if someone has near as much touchness I have. On P2 it is wild. Sometimes he will focus the zerker guy, sometimes the knight one or soldier one.
Now regarding the fight, unfortunately for most players, it is a team fight. No getting around that. So if your PUG is mostly composed of soloist you’ll never get Lupicus down. Had the case yesterday with 2 guardians playing solo and like they wanted. One left, the other one we kicked for bad play and being a mouthfull.
For P1: learn to avoir grubs, it is important, because the day everone is able to avoid it means the day you can start meleeing Lupicus in P1 and burn him down fast.
For P2: watch the animations, you’ll know how to get away from him before the red circles appears. You will also be able to escape from his TP. Though when he starts evading, just run… towards him is enough. Somehow running away or side way does not realy work well ^^
However after doing GL hundreds of time, if you have like 250 ms/500 ms lag or your computer is a bit slow, you’ll take the damage before you actually see the animation / the red circles OR the green bullets (1) or you’ll be stun by the shadow walk.
One way around people lagging is also to plainly do him in melee in all phases, but for P2 you need to have at least 2 people being able to protect a zone against projectiles(mesmer, guardians, elem…) or everyone know the animations ^^
P3: You can evade the poison dome, it is hard, but watch the animations. You just have to really time it right. Also you should ask for help from the group. If I don’t have aggro in P3, I’ll usually run not too far from the one with aggro and shout my stability in order to help those in that dome cage.
All in all, GL will usually focus the one that does the most condition damage +/or highest thoughness.
And like Wethospu, I am on EU serveur and free to run arah ^^ be it in PUGs or in veteran groups see the Arah vet thread (EU servers)
PS 1: As for those saying/thinking I just miss the green thingy ^^ well how do you explain seeing 4 “block” messages in a second while no red circles around (viva el focus & aegis)^^ ? Or how do you explain taking hits under the shield bubble (not avenger) of my guardian ?

I run Arah, CoE all the time… I find Arah fun and CoE just to help friends, they feel easy. On the other end AC is harder for me. Both because I don’t know the dungeon well and because I just simply hate it…
Team1 full direct damage, Team 2 was pretty much 4 conditions damages dealers.
What really killed us on these packs are the AoE bombers (there was more than one that is for sure). But next time I go i’ll look over the area because to me, you have to run pretty far to get “space” to fight, or you gotta fight in their room
As for the technique of running we tried it. But those frigging ranger pets (mine too) would just not keep stowed and would simply run back to me aggroing pretty much everything along the way so we had 8 riflemans going for us in the room below where everybody hides We even had some monsters coming through the walls. I should really film stuff more often
And I’ll try to get a more damage build oriented ranger too rather than a pet oriented one. It had been a while since I had done a dungeon with it, but the pets even spiders and the like just get down way to fast imho.
Cero play with me sometimes ^^ I am runing a zerk warrior and I am not often down, but usually run Arah
I just dusted off my ranger and went to caudecus C1… sure I lack skill in regards to its management. But the unstowable pet is just annoying when you wanna run some packs. And the class just feels squishy though I am running a somewhat resistant build and the dps seems … so low…
On the other hand my engineer feels much more resistant and is a real toolkit for pretty much any situation ^^ while I am running grennadier.
For my elem, I feel like it brings way more to the group, especially with dagger/focus. It can protect / heal way better than the ranger.
For my guardian… well it brings much more “direct” protection to the group.
My warrior is just for fun when I want to see big numbers and get Arah C2 boss to 50% life in 8 seconds ^^.
But then, I usually run support / tank / heal in other game so I like to have tons of way to protect members of my group even when they are not close to me. Or just negate completely damage. In the end, the Ranger does not really give me this feeling and since its DPS is kinda no fun… lots of chance I am going to get rid of it and go mesmer.

Thanks for the input but here are complementaries:
- Team 1, meleed pretty much everything, no bubble only wall sometimes and condition removal (but 2 engineers can get you walls too, be it reflective or blinding or stealth and remove conditions way better) and guardian was packing every packs as neatly as he could. But when you have a warrior zerker in the team for exemple, thugs go down in 15 seconds even less sometimes and hooligans in 30.
- While when you have condition damage necros, rangers and engineers… well monsters stay up a lot more longer since condition damage, though higly effective takes a bit more time to actually take effect.
Another exemple is normal monsters (not the lieutenants). With my ranger it takes me 3 to 4 times longer to kill monsters than with the warrior or the guardian and it is way more squishy.
Also, do you actually have a technique for the packs after Victoria where you have 5 lieutenants AND 20 small ones ?
- With first team, the small ones go down instantaneously since they are so nicely packed with the LOS around the corner and the guardian number 5 staff / hammer ^^. So they pretty much do no damage and you are left with a bit harder monsters that don’t take long to kill either.
- With team 2… you have no way to control the timing at which they come or pack them nicely to do tons of damage even with piercing rounds / arrows.
In the end, even if I had to go back to Caudecus C1 with the same team 2 composition. I would go 100% direct damage since it is, in my eyes, way more effective for group survival than condition damage. The faster monsters go down, the less time they have to hit your group.

Yes, one more complaint But this time it seriously kitten me off so I ll vent a bit of anger on the forum. And ask for some help too.
Today I did 2 Caudecus C1 run.
- Team 1: 1 war full berserker, 1 guardian, 1 engineer (yes 3 people only)
- Team 2: 2 rangers, 2 engineers, 1 necro
With Team 1 we finished the run in 30 minutes.
With Team 2 we never got past the packs after victoria and we were in a lot of hurt for the first packs too even though we were pulling them upstaires. Even with engineers trying to magnet the monsters one by one or using Elixir U to protect us from the bombs and with rangers full rooting the monsters in place.
So, Anet, when you actually run the dungeons do you try to run them with pretty much every kind of setup ?
And for other players, how would you go about killing the monsters with Team 2 composition ?

I love the dungeon and personnaly the only requirement I ask for is:
- to speak / understand english and have TeamSpeak 3, sorry to say that mumble lack in bit of volume controls (at least for P4, just soooooo long to explain simin written style)
- no frigging magic find equipment
- be sometime willing to sacrifice solo utilities for group utilities ^^
Personnaly I run the dungeon with:
- guardian / warrior / engineer / elementalist, 3 out of 4 of those are nearly full exoti^c (missing a piece or 2 sometimes).
- I don’t give a kitten about speccing / equipment as long as you stay up and fighting ^^
- I tend to melee Lupicus, but depends on group composition

Going invisible at 50% is part of the mechanic when she is in phase 1. To me, this just means you don’t run sparks fast enough.
Having her go invisible all the time at 25% well is a bug, never got it though.
But if you still have trouble with her after patch (in regards to the 50% mark)… I wonder if you understand the mechanics of the fights ?

- First boss, nice thinking on the modifications. But seriously ? resurecting any kind of monsters ? You DO know that means you actually CAN’T kill the roaming patrols to clean up the room ? Also, it is a pain in the kitten if you want to separate the hunter and the crusher. If your aim is to get people to use stun breaking mechanics to escape from the killing blow then it is OKAY, I think. However, please make the room more spacious or just don’t pop the roaming patrols until the boss is killed. The other day we had to kill the patrol, the boss and the sucker kept rezzing every last one of them, took us a while to down it.
- Second boss, seems like we can’t stay in the same place anymore. NICE

Faceroll now. Just for fun I mounted a group that knew the fight except for one member. We got pretty much everything wrong ^^
The tear launcher DIED, I go to rez him, get petrified, die, another petrified in melee, she goes invisible because of the dots ^^. We rez everyone, we run the sparks and she had not yet regened to 100% life ! The tear launcher simply started pretty much dpsing, forgetting to depetrify us in melee range, ran sparks like his worst in his life, melee aggroed also once a spark.
And we still downed her in only 5 sparks run… in 5 minutes…
Faceroll… no other comment… Robert would you mind just bumping the regen, maybe not to back how it was to allow more people to clear the content if that is really the aim ? Because now… like one said before me… am pretty sure you could 3 man her now.

Path 3:
- First boss (double): Make it so we have to fight in the room they are, not the one before. Also remove the places where you can actually never move and still kill the hammer guy while escaping his aoe (lantern place and the small promontoir in the left corner)
- Create a door after first boss in the small tunnel where you need to clean the 2 mobs guarding it. Otherwise, everybody rushes. And it is not like the groups are hard to kill anyway. Or make climbing through the mountains in both directions possible. (You can climb the mountains just before the spider pack to get back to the first boss place)
- I’d say the same principles, a door before you get to the second boss
- Second boss: remove the stairs where you are out of sight of the boss. It’s already easy doing it, no need to be able to afk on it^^
*Last boss: Well, you know what, keep it that way. I have an ongoing wager on that boss. Anyone beating 55 stacks of corruption in my group wins the wager. But they must never go down and NO spirits must pop Sorry, we make it fun in our own way. Could we have a title if we actually reach 50 stacks in a timely downed boss and without any spirits popping (otherwise too easy) ?
Path 4:
- Balthazar: nothing to say
- Melandru: afkable
- Lyssa: really funny
- Canons after Lupicus. When we attack them, the monsters should attack too.
- Grenth: repair the agro bug, make it so as long as someone is on the seal, it won’t reset. I always tell people to just autoattack right when it pops… but still sometimes the boss resets.
- Simin: fix the spark agro on pets, fix it so that once they are agroed, they don’t reset back to their position. It happened quite often to one of our guardians running sparks.
- Bloodstone: funny when the group does not know the boss everybody seems to die instantaneously. But otherwise, easily doable.
Path 1:
- Limons, be it the boss or the small ones, when they split they tend to end up in the walls, regroup and come back for seconds. It makes them nearly invulnerable and really really annoying. Especially since the group tends to get out of combat, think the limons are dead. The group attacks the next pack, and hop limons come from behind thus the group wipes.
- Crystal monster boss: Didn’t they all agro before ? I remember running the path before and having all the mobs on my kitten Was fun! Now I don’t even consider it a boss anymore.
- Last boss: how to say this nicely… mind giving us a bit of a challenge on that one? It is THE last boss of C1.
Path 2:
- First boss:
– The electric meteor is bugged or maybe does not work as intended. If you move, it actually follows you but the red circle does not. If you want to escape from it, you have to dodge. And worse of all, if the player that was targeted just moves towards another player that is standing outside of the red circles, he can get hit. So either remove the red circle of the meteor, make them move alongside the target or no circle at all.
– If you put wall of reflection up in melee, it won’t send back the meteor. I am not sure how such a small azura can lob over it ^^
– Teleport after golem path. Can you move the point a bit further away from where it is atm ?
– Boss 4: Alaphard, remove the places in the room where the boss bugs. Also, I am not sure if it is a bug, but if you push the boss out of the center of the room, he never does his AOEs. It takes a bit of practice to do it ^^ but when everybody melees it is easy.
– Boat exploit: remove the path or make it a real one in the same way there are 2 paths for the mine road. Leave the boat though. It can be safely used in some interesting ways
– Boss 5: Depending on group composition it is extremely easy, or hard. If you take a warrior berserker for example, you get the boss to phase 2 in 10 seconds, while sometimes you need 4 or 5 players to get in & out. But all in all, doable by any kind of group.
I like, no love, Arah, the dungeon is not hard, but at least harder than all the other one and still takes a bit on concentration to do. Some boss are nice and all. So keep it up on other encounters / dungeons you might create.
Also, sorry in advance if I missed another thread like this one.
After running Arah countless time, here is a list of things I think needs improvements in regards to this dungeon, feel free to add to it. I’ll start with generalities and then go on regarding the main problems on each path we usually encounter. And yes I know that some packs can be skipped, but that is not the point.
And if some dev wants to run with us Frenchy, no problem ^^ you don’t even have to tell me your a dev But if you do, I’ll point out everything buggy in my opinion
Generalities
Before starting with each path, let’s start with them and our friend Lupicus which can be found on all path:
- Make the boss donjon harder if you don’t mind, being able to solo some path (C2 for example) is weird to me. The pack are pretty easy depending on group composition. If you don’t have a grappler, they seem balanced to me in regards to a 5 person group.
- Make all red circles bigger, I am sorry to say that they are 10% to 20% too small in regards to damage area OR add an option in the menu to show a green or blue or yellow or whatever color circle under one’s body in order to know if we will be considered inside the damage area or not. I usually play asura with a small body, thus I think I am outside the zone while I am not.
- Nice cadavers I tend to hit pretty much all of them by accident while in fights, so I depop them beforehand now.
- Give us an option to “not show allies’ non combo spell effects”. I don’t know if I am the only one, but on some bosses like C3B1 I am sometimes unable to see what the boss is doing resulting in my untimely death.
Lupicus:
- Correct the grub bugs. They can still pop on the NPC and on clones/pets, though for the clones/pets only at the phase switching.
- P2 AOE: sorry to say, but either the red circles are sometimes missing or the red circles are really too small or my body is small ? Lag is not explaining every hit I get. And the funny thing is, I have an easier time moving out of the circles on my norn than on my asura.
- Room before Lupicus: pretty much everybody just cleans one side or another since you only need to kill the abominations.
Though, i am sad to say i tend to use it in PUGs, it is so much faster than explaining to everyone that they need stability / blindness / interrupts… And they go like, yeah yeah whatever… and then you wipe on the first pack of techies + deadeyes. Those packs are simple
I do aggree, either fix the exploit or make it a normal path like the one to escape from the mines
Now, a quick question for the developpers What I do sometimes is run to the boat, get on it. Let the grubs aggro the technicians, and then go on my merry way to continue the path. Is that consider an exploit of game mechanics, or just good thinking on our part ?
But then, same should be said for CM Path 1 ^^ fix that kitten mount

For those of you on EU servers. I can mount a run for Arah path 4 on Sunday 25th.
Conditions are as follow:
- run starts around 15h30 (Paris time)
- bringing motivation it can be a very annoying fight, expect to spend 4 hours in the dongeon if Simin gets annoying
- using mumble => pretty much a must for reactivity
- understand english and not being annoyed by my accent
- NO RUNE POPPING PETS ! (yes they aggro sparks those idiots), and even worse, no pet at all. Sorry for the rangers out there atm, but until they fix the sparks to lock only onto players I won’t be bringing them in C4
I do not garanty a down since I don’t know who will come atm If you are interestedd, PM me or whisp me ingame
For your information, I’ll either be on my warrior zerker or my herding gardian depending on group composition.

I like the new rule of no rez rushing. If player want to play a game without thinking, go WoW. Players need to learn how to use their utility slots. And as Robert said somewhere (if not mistaken on the person). Dongeons are aimed to organized groups. Which means you have to actually TALK / WRITE with other people you group with.
I have never had a dongeon unfinished with pugs as long as we set our mind to it. And I am far from being a good player. I know some a lot better.
Pretty much all classes have a way to rez a downed player, or even a dead player for some. Some are just plain useless (guardian one, takes just too long to cast and you need to be near the player)
Also players should really start thinking on packs they find TOO hard. At least 2 professions in game can unlink packs and pull annoying mobs one by one. Yes, one by one If you can’t do the pack like you want to.
Though, in regards to some story dongeons, I believe some are just hell if you are not in a full 80 party. (CM is one of them) While others are just…………… seriously Arah Story ? Why the heck did you nerf that one ??????? It is no fun to run now…. boring as hell, you keep on waiting for the ship to move around
Don’t change the system all path in every dongeons are doable even Arah/Simin. As for rezzing a player, you don’t have all to go
And for those wanting the trinity, LOTS of boss can actually be tanked (Alpha, Victoria, Lupicus (not cac tanked but still tanked), …) you just need to equipped the correct utilities.

Nah, simply easy. But then players need to think condition removal and not dps… weird how many players just want to dps on every fight and never think.
And for those players who would say I don’t have any easy condition removal, may I remind you that some combos allow you to remove your own conditions without actually stacking condition removal utilities

I aggree that Rangers are banned atm from this fight since they can’t remove their pet and the spark aggro still goes to pet. It should lock only one players, but they still haven’t fixed that.
Regarding the 4/1, nope, still works.
If she goes invulnerable 5 seconds after you run sparks, it means you took too long to run sparks.
Good sparks herder can do it in 5~10 seconds which leaves ~50 seconds of DPS on the boss.
Now, P1 is fixed invisibility when she reaches 50% life. To get past the P1 phase, you either need really good sparks runner or use the 4/1 trick.
In P2, the invisibility is on a TIMER. The timer starts when she becomes invisible, not when she becomes visible again. Thus, the faster you run sparks:
- the lesser she regenerates
- the more time to dps you have.
In 10 seconds she regenerates about 15/20% of her life.
Also, your tears launcher need to be good at its job. A good one can: dps and still have nobody petrified. Which is again a better DPS globally for everybody. If your it, look at the debuff on the group UI, don’t use simple. If you wait for someone to call petrification, then you are late on your job
And in the end, please don’t nerf it. It ain’t a DPS check. It is a skill check. However, correct the spark aggro so that necros and rangers can dps to their utmost in this fight. Haven’t seen problems with clones atm but our mesmers depops them.

Sorry to say, sparks on Dwayna still aggro pets, especially pets invoked through rune invocation. And if such a pet pops, you can be sure to have to reset dwayna. A pain in the kitten img src="/include/images/smilies/smile.png" />
