Actually we were three but that is kinda how we did it ^^. Though I agree, we would have had a less hard time if the wall fight resetted on wipe and cleaned all the spiders since on the first try we got the boss to like 20% before wiping
i rarely go over 18K on reflects… nobody wants to stand beneath it or buff might or debuff vulné on boss

Sorry, but i am with the non nerfer guys on that one.
If you start going after the feedback, you are going to ask for warden phantom nerf after and so on… mesmer already has kittenty dps compared to other professions. Sending back projectiles must account for like 90% of my dps on mesmer. So on non projectile fight I pretty much feel like I slow the group every time. Not even counting fights where illusions are plain useless (Bella comes to mind, …).
And I believe that being in an organized group, using vocal and such should allow you to reap the benefits of that kind of battle. Anet said it, dungeon exploration paths are for the organised groups. Organised means to me able to support each other, study what the boss do and if possible turn it against them. << It’s just good business >> (PotC).
I run sometimes with Dub & company, and what i find fun &love with them compared to pug, is that I know if I make a mistake or get a spike or DC, it won’t matter, I can pretty much trust them to be able to finish the job. Sometimes we even get to P2 and suddenly you have like only 1 person alive, viva el lag, and still he gonna down him, you won’t have to run / restart / reset… Though I feel that I don’t have the skill to do that kind of speed run, especially with my added lag. And am amazed about that achievement.
In comparison, when I am in PUGs, even those that require no noobs / exp players for arah, especially these actually. I usually end up soloing the boss in P2 and/or P3 … which frankly, is a pain in the end. In my last, … 20 arah PUG I got maybe 1 group with every body alive at the end due to reving, and maybe 2 groups with people still alive. And I don’t even count the number of players who, when they see Lupicus with 1 stack of empower flee from the fight and kitten around. And finally regarding those elitist group, they usually go and …………………………… wait for it ………………….. range him !!!!!!!!!
I only had one PUG in like 2 months were we went full melee from the start and got him down in 2 mintues or something. 1 dead in the end, he did not know the fight ^^
So no, pretty please no, don’t nerf it. Good players, good organisation and good tactics should allow you to do this kind of stuff.

The boss ain’t that hard actually in the end. But I do agree it is a change from what we are used to in dungeon and just like CM, if the party is not oriented toward helping the group, you ain’t gonna make it on that boss path.
It took us 2 hours, but we learned the animations and by the end, nobody was getting rooted anymore, so we could run to our hearts content around the room while dpsing the boss. In the end, bopring mechanic when you can’t have full reflect / protection uptime.

In the end, we did it with a warrior and elem last night. We were running in 2 different directions and buffing each other / healing / crippling / chilling every time we crossed.
We tried a bunch of tacticts with reflects, without, switching toons to see what felt best and all.
I’d agree with Japperwock, spiders need to reset on wipe, but I would also like anet to find a solution so we can see the animation of that boss in a more friendly way. Maybe a mini window over the map or something. Because when you are running, it is really a pain to keep the camera on the boss to check for the immobilization animation, which is really the only spell you gotta avoid. And still launch spell for crippling / chilling the spiders.

And if people know how to run and not pull kitten style ^^ Just got out of a group where we did P2&3 nice and easy going…. but on P1, they fond a way to get us to wipe before lupicus…. I so hate that run ^^
So, Caudecus is hard ? I’d advise you to revise your teamplay Like others said before, think about what the mobs do, and what you can do to neutralize it. I especially love to have a well necro in my group for this one ^^ between the blinds, the condition transformation and all, it’s happy time.

Though, I really need to get that thread in my favorites or something, but a dev confirmed the 50% HP bug. Just reset her to full life and go back at it.
However, it is also true that if all your teammates and i mean ALL yourself included are support / heal specced, none dps, you may not have the dps to do her and it will feel like she is bugging while she is actually not. Happened to me once, had to switch to a zerk toon to get Simin’s life to actually start going down… we were intially 5 support specced in the group XD
yeah, before you could melee him and you still needed to be active, except with a good guardian.
Now don’t even try to melee him anymore… the roots just became too annoying. Afk even more… that was a stupid patch / fix.
But cheers, now you see the trees
never doing this path again, and gonna send an incendiary pm at Houdra ^^ will be useless… but it will feel good
edit: just have one guy aggro the 3 gorillaz and run near the exit were there is no roots annoying spells while the 4 other just kill the boss afk mode…

So we went for fun and see if it was doable to 3 man Citadel of flames third path. It took us 45 minutes and a few fails. No food, no potion (the one you see are actually undead ones xD).
And even though we had somewhat of a trinity, after doing it, I think it can be done by pretty much any team of 3 ^^.

but some of my french collegues don’t wanna run they want to use the boat because it is “safer”. I asked my group yesterday if they wanted to run or use the boat. They choose boat
But i think that when players find exploits like that, they are not really game breaking and should just be made real pathes, like they removed the mobs from the way at the top of the cliff alongside the mine field (though that ain’t an exploit). Or they could just plain add mobs at the tob of the map too Like an eagle nest with a champion and lots of kiddied that pop
Those kitten ed hunters must be getting their eagle from somewhere.
And how ’bout having those kind of optionnal bosses to remove skills from monsters ? They would allow some pugs maybe to fail a bit less ^^

Same here, did it a few times, only had that bug like 3 weeks ago. Since then, haven’t seen it. And if they want us to kill Seamus, then put a chest when he surrenders or force the door to open only when he surrenders. It will still be a loss of time anyway.
Quam, don’t abandon Arah, the dungeon is sooo much fun And once you caught on that pretty much all aoe circles in the dungeon are either bugged (bella meteor, lupicus regarding aegis) or smaller than the damage area, you’ll be fine ^^.

Quam, I also did lupicus on many a profession, mainly in groups, my armors are testament to this i guess ^^ And for other than my guardian, they are in zerk armor for most of them.
Now to help, and i know little of thiefs, mine is barely 65, here is what i would equip for my first fights IF i range him
- Signet with the speed boost might help get you out of red circles fasters
- Smoke wall => blokes tons of projectiles
P1: you don’t have to melee if you don’t wanna. Though the cycle is Locust / Kick / Grub / Kick / Locusts …. (can start with grub ^^). And without vigor you can dodge grubs and kicks in this phase. Your endurance refills fast enough. So, the dodges on grubs is not really part of your problem atm ^^ And if you are in melee, you can actually know if you are the one targeted by the grub or not.
Kick: you actually have time to either move away from him, move left / right of him, or move through him without dodging. Though that is if you have no lag ^^. A good 3 of a thief’s dagger should also be enough to evade said kick
Shadowstep: If you are in melee, the SS will be away from you… no need to dodge. So no dodging there. (Except when the dam wolf bugs, which happens all the time now since the dragon thingy patch. Dub saw it before, I had never.) And if GL SS on you, means you are ranged, means you can evade the missile barrage without dodging but just running.
Projectile: just do a quick left / right when you are ranged, it works on mage too most of the time. No need to spend some dodges on that.
Massive aoe barrage: double dodge if in melee, as a thief and if you are ranging him, you can steal him once the red circles appeared or use smoke screen and position yourself correctly.
Drains life: yeap, you’ll have to double dodge or use evasion skills.
PBAOE Life Drain: 5 from arc would be a good idea to get out, so no dodge or only one.
As for the P3 aoe poison (not the cage), why not use arc 5 again instead of dodges ?
So all in all, i’d say that the only moments where you really need to dodge are:
- Massive missile barrage of P2 if you are in melee
- Kicks if you can’t evade them other way
and that is pretty much it.
As for your original question: the projectikitten unce* which means they actually have multiple points where they can hit a player on their trajectory. Get your guardian out. Use Wall of Reflection, and look at the projectiles and you will see that some jump over the wall to hit you ^^. They also splash right in front of the wall and hit you too
Now Lupicus is a fun fight ^^ learn to enjoy it and try to figure out which weapons / skills sets you can use best on that fight. Don’t ask other thiefs what they use and then use them without thinking ^^. Use them if you feel comfy with it, not because others do it.
Lupicus as a guardian is like being in godmode. I know that i usually just switch to scepter/focus + 1hsword/shield on this fight for the fun of being able to protect and rez any downed / dead player and still get out of sticky situations ^^.
And to finish, this has turned into a long answer in the end, if you don’t want aggro:
- don’t max condition damage
- don’t max toughness
Some might correct me, but to me, this is the order in which Lupicus focuses aggro when I am playing him. It is also one of the reason my engi is now happy to have his berzerker set and not draw aggro anymore most of the time ^^

When under him, double evade, once backward, once forward, you ll take maybe one hit.
As a guardian, if you are more support specced than dps oriented, evade once backward, hit your wall of reflection. Or just use shield 5. I find that avenger takes too long to cast and is really not reliable
As for the projectiles, well they bounce around a lot. You want to be free of them either go towards him or away from him. Avoir going in circles around him ^^. Also there is more than one wave.
Also, don’t rely on aegis. They. Simply. Do. Not. Work. on this boss. Don’t ask me why, but they are “eaten” by the aoe spell even though you would take no hit. Maybe the more experienced ones have a reason for that ^^ The funniest thing is as a warrior, you can block with a shield and you will still see tons of blocks even without any projectiles actually reaching you.
GL is fun… though way less since the dragon patch.. he became thoughoully unreliable with his spells. Shadowsteps that don’t teleport, pbaoe life drain that stop in the middle and cage while you are moving away. And groups tend to not want to go in melee At least that would solve the SS problem ^^

253 levels run, which amounts to… around 70 full FOTM, 10-20 about half, 20-30 about half and like maybe 3 lvl 30+
- 10 rings looted, 3 infused.
- no skins (normal)
- 1 exotic not account binded that sold for like 10 po
nothing else => i pretty much stopped doing FOTM except when one of my alt actually gets to 80 and i really do not want to craft a ring.
So i understand your pain, though I always hate RNG, seems to be on the bad end of the stick that launche the dices ^^
Broadicea, once with a group we did it clean… from the start… and still she would not start and we had the video, but she would just sit there.
So now i just rush her anyway.

that was changed in february if i remember correctly. He now rezzes any cadaver near him.
But if you kill the hunter first, when the hunter is rezzed, no more poison zone which makes the crusher easier

- I agree, they really need to work on the spell effects. Typical boss where it is annoying => Crusher in arah… sometimes you miss the hint on the OS of the boss. Maybe go and have a spell casting bar on the boss would be a solution. Though it would go against the animations gives the hint mentality of the game.
- They keep on adding content temporary or not, finished or not (SAB) so why not a dungeon ^^. And they do fix stuff (arah P2 exploit, Caudecus C1 exploit, …) even if it takes them a lot of time
Like the idea of the keys, did not play GW1, but the title idea would be more of a pain to implement i think.
Tip my immaterial hat to you kind sir / m’am. Read most of it. Agree with most of it too.
And though, i have no really better idea… i would not go with equipment in order to progress in those dungeons. Or add a special slot to the hero tab to equip such a piece. Said piece can get better and better with “resistance” as further you go in the dungeon and kill bosses. If it were the full equipment… it’s gonna end up like wow (vanilla) where you’ll have normal set, fire resistant set, cold resistant set, nature resistant set… just gonna be a pain in our proverbial backside to have those items on us all the time ^^
Regarding the Lupi fight, going random would not impact the fight in the least bit for those of us who melee him the whole way. But the added skills to the AGL would be really fun
I’d hope any dev being from this game or other could take some ideas out of this.

Funny thing though, did it the other day. I was thinking it would go smoothly, by chance we ended up with 1 guard, 3 wars, 1 mesmer (me). Pretty much no hitch till Simin…
After a while, i saw that the only time we were actually downing her was under timewarp. So I asked just for fun how much dps the warriors were doing with hundred blades. They were doing 8k,8k and 11k…. I do more damage with my zerk warrior than the 3 warriors in the group… they were tanky spec…
So group composition isnot really the pb, i must have some screens with some ranger / engi / nécro parti composition somewhere. What counts is to have at least 3 people DPS oriented. So yes, party make up and how you wanna play the game are overridden by this boss. It is unfortunate. But the requirement are not that bad either.
As for your group composition, it is unfortunate to say, that since sparks still bug on the aggro, the ranger can pretty much only be in melee with their pet ^^
up all professions and give them their arah equipement ^^ that is what i did. Still waiting on the kitten receipe though. I am round my 20th P4
nice, i am still stuck on killing the abomination, so haven’t tried solo lupi yet on my engi.
Need to take a look at your build though, you have massive endurance regen ^^.
Funny thing though, you don’t use the fast targetting system for your nades ^^. And welcome to the “finger hurts like hell” problem of all engineers
Auron, forget about classes, it was not necessary before and it is even less necessary now.
You can go and run Simin without problem. You can even have rangers & necros now as long as you don’t have more than 1 or 2 pets out and the players are in melee with their pets. You will just need 2 guys to actually run sparks in a timely manner. It might take a bit of time to do it right though, they are still somewhat of a pain ^^. I even downed it with first timers and without food (due to an early aggro, forgot, the whole group forgot about it hahaha)
And I’d rather take a skilled player over a noob warrior that will keep on getting downed due to Simin’s AOE (though I feel like they nerfed that spell)
The only pack I would advise you NOT to skip is the one (with 4 mobs) after melandru except if you have a thief.
Finally, I would advise you not to force the use of utilities, especially since the patches have changed some, and some lost of their interest. Or weapon for that matter. Also, don’t try to melee Lupicus if two or more of the players have never done it.

did not watch yet, but the massive zone poison of P3 can be reflected back for tons of damage if ever he gets to launch it ^^
i thought of going bomb heal but the problem with the abomination boss are the little inquest guys that shoots for 1500 + dots. Going low dps means having to endure 3 little guys + the boss. While going high dps you can kill the little ones fast.
Kind of a trade of. But trying will tell I though about going knight too. But feel it is at least partly useless in arah’s case due to high damage of mobs.
Ok, rampager ain’t the way to go ^^ crafting full berserk set now
yeah well, if I ever get around to finishing P2 solo it’s gonna take me hours ^^ I would also condense all the wipes.
Though after thinking about it for a bit, I think I found the solution on how to kill the abomination in a crazy way
except when moderators are actually the one enforcing the necro as per see in the other 2 threads that were started recently.
And not to be off topic or anything… this has been going on since the start of the game. When is the fix coming ? A simple solution would just be to make the video always show one’s toon and not the “leader”. Or just make the leader toon be a different variable and not link to the dungeon in such a hard link way. If the guy disconnects / quit the groups, just elect a new leader. Or simply rank players by group joining and get the dungeon to follow that order or whatever.
There are so many solutions and, in this case, the code seems overly complicated since it has not been fixed yet.

Any of you engineers been able to solo the abomination or the crusher / hunter couple ? I am amazed at how much more difficult it ease for me than on my guardian or mesmer.
On P2, getting to abo is easy. Once at abo, it gets amazingly hard if you try to kill it without exploiting game mechanics (stock pile frenzy gun and never aggro again the small ones). The small ones are doing the killing though.
On P3, getting through the first 4 monsters is already a pain since the sentinel keeps on blocking you / stunning you and you have no real stability even with elixir S. But the crusher is worse. The shield 5 does not seem to work for blocking the hammer shot, the 4 is useless since it is equivalent to being rooted (if you want to send back the root shot of the hunter). And you pretty much need: tool kit, Elixir C to get out of the immobilization or survive the OS. So the last slot is either a kit for damage or elixir S.
So, wondering any engi tried to do it ? were able to do it ? and do it without exploiting the mechanics ?

Sure, you can also solo it. I unfortunately tend to do it too… but then why put the golem up ?
I thought dungeons were for organized teams. The golem is such a process that was pretty much rendered useless due to its slow movement by this patch. Now it would actually be better to just have one person doing it on its own and using the bar skills.
And the waipoint does not work be it with or without the golem, you still get some mobs leeching after you instead of getting stuck on the turret.
