Obviously? I lose track of your point here. Obviously you were kicked? How is this obvious? The rest doesn’t make much more sense, either. Where are you going with this?
Well, I meant OBVIOUSLY, as fractals are only @!!!zscz kitten this had to happen…
And for the others, I feel horrible but not gulty, it’s not my fault if they can’t replace me…
Ummm…mate, you still make no sense….
Once the boss had only 20% life left, obviously, all my team was kicked from the dungeon and returned to Lion Arch.
Obviously? I lose track of your point here. Obviously you were kicked? How is this obvious? The rest doesn’t make much more sense, either. Where are you going with this?
Hey guys,
Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward. This will include providing more details about our goals for the game, information about the stories and features that you’ll see in the Jan/Feb/March releases.
Awesome! If you guys actually do this, and do it on your own website and not Reddit (or similar), I’ll take back everything I said about you
Well, maybe not EVERYTHING…will you settle for almost everything?
Communication is key. I hope this will become a good start.
Doesn’t seem a contradiction. Looks like he took a break and wound up changing his mind. It happens.
… are there any reason? Seems from people posts that GW2 now is extremely grindy (fractals), still have major issues with balance in WvW (theives etc) and no progression at all for pvp’ers (other then go do PvE for Fractal-stuff).
So, if its just the same game as 3 month ago – with more grinding – I wont borther.
Yea it pretty much is. Supposedly big updates in Jan/Feb, however. Maybe see what those bring
Chuo.4238 I got the feeling that only few ppl here are GW1 vets. OP certainly not one of them. It’s also funny how you contradict each other in your complaints. Tells me something.
True. Most of my friends I played Guild Wars with tried this game and gave up on it. About 40 of us remade our GW guild in GW2. I think I’ve seen 5 or 6 of them in the last several weeks.
To be honest, I probably should move on, too. This game definitely does not “take all the things you love about Guild Wars”. I think most of the Guild Wars fans got left out in the cold. Oh well.
It strikes me as rather odd thing, that someone who got bored of the game 2 moths ago still cares, for some reason, to log in, after 2 months of not even playing, and writes wall of text about it here. And then more bored guys show up, who also haven’t played the game for months, and express their frustration.
It’s because of the years long love affair we had with Guild Wars.
We’re hoping against hope that some of what we say here makes an impression on ArenaNet and they stop moving away from all the things that made Guild Wars great, and all the things they promised us while the game was in development. If this was any other game I’d have been long gone.
I’m just hoping that someone cares enough at ArenaNet to listen to the casual players and their GW fanbase and stop driving this game into the grindy, botty, goldselling ground.
I’m hoping that they’ll fix the broken things, actually make sPvP into the eSport they talked about (and the eSport it actually was in GW), and get away from the WoW/SWToR/Aion/Rift clone business.
Because I loved Guild Wars. It was brilliant. So I just can’t let go that easily. Although, I can say in all honesty, I am just about to let go. Let’s see what January brings.
Simply put, when I see the red ArenaNet icon on a thread, I eagerly look through it to find out what the devs have to say about something.
More often than not, it’s just a Moderator saying that the thread has been moved, they’ve changed what someone said, or some other administration that’s really of no interest.
So: can we make it so the Dev and Mod icons are different? So I know if someone who actually counts had something to say?
:)
I’m pretty bored and frustrated with it at the moment. Waiting to see what the Jan/Feb updates are going to be about.
If they fix the broken dungeons, smooth out the bugs, and make it easier to group up with people, that’s a good start. Any new content they add ought to be after they’ve fixed what’s here, though.
If the start adding more gear grind and raising the level cap, I’m done. I am so sick of that in MMO’s.
I really miss the GW1 gear/level mentality.
Yea me, too. They could have done so much better if they’d kept that philosophy. Their game would have been everything they said it would be in the Manifesto. I’m so frustrated and bored with GW2 right now, and it’s only a few months old…
…sigh…
This is no excuse for /stuck not working, but next time try using your Hall of Monuments stone. When you leave your HoM, it’s supposed to put you back exactly where you were; but if you were somewhere you were not supposed to be, it’ll put you a few steps away.
Usually this winds up doing exactly what /stuck should do; you don’t have to spend money using a WP.
It makes your existing gear look like Krytan armor. The stats will not change.
Increase level cap is terrible. It’s an admission that your player base is out of things to do.
Hear hear!
To be honest, with sidekicking, they could have set the level cap at 20 or 30, and left it there forever. It would have been much simpler to balance zones for 30 levels than 80, and any new content wouldn’t require a raise in the level cap.
A smart studio would create new content that people play because it’s interesting and fun, and not content whose only source of (smallminded and boring) satisfaction is being able to yell “DING!” and having light shooting out of your crotch.
I stayed at level 20 in Guild Wars for years and thousands of hours because the content was fun. I made so many alts that I had to buy new character slots (BIG HINT HERE, ARENANET). I wanted to try all the content with different classes, and it was fun to level when you weren’t looking at a months-long project to do it.
I stopped playing WoW after levelling one character because it’s a freakin’ drag to have to go through that grind all over again. I only have one 80 in Guild Wars, too. It’s such a pain the kitten to have to level. I just want to play the content that I like, and not be forced into other places.
TL:DR – Be a smart studio, and make content that’s fun and interesting for it’s own sake. Never, please, ever, increase the level cap. 80 is far too much as it is. It’s making me want to log out instead of creating alts.
Have you considered using something like the Razer Nostromo, Belkin n52t or Logitech G13 to relieve some of the strain on your tendons ?
I am using a Logitech G13, which is basically a remap of the keyboard but with the palm support and keys spaced more ergonomically. I was developing cramping in my fingers and wrist a couple years ago, which is why I got it. It solved that problem. The problem I have today didn’t exist until GW2 came along, and I can’t move my skills around in the UI. Every other game I’ve ever played lets me move them.
So short answer: the G13 helps, but GW2 introduces a new problem.
Well my 1-5 on screen is still 1-5 on the keyboard. I’ll hit 1 with my ring finger, 2 with my middle, and 3,4, and 5 all with my index. .
Yea that’s not really going to help…overusing my ring finger is part of the problem
So how do you get around the problem of things on the screen being in a different order than keys on your keyboard? Maybe I’m missing something.
I like your thinking, and I do have my heal, utility, and elite skills bound onto my mouse (because they’re on the right side, and so is my mouse).
Your left side setup doesn’t really help me though, unfortunately. I still wind up using my pinky and ring fingers more than any others.
I’m starting to develop a repetitive-motion injury, which is manifesting in swollen tendons in my left elbow. These are the ones that connect to my pinky and ring fingers.
Essentially what’s happening is this: I’m using these two fingers more than I ever have before when I play GW2. In other games, like Guild Wars (and every other MMO I’ve played), I always place the skills I use least on the 1 and 2 keys, and the skills I use most around the 5 and 6 keys, because it makes more sense (to me) to use my index and middle fingers more often than my pinky and ring fingers.
Because of this ergonomic flexibility in other games, I’ve never had a repetitive motion injury from gaming.
Since I can’t do that with GW2, I’m using my weaker fingers much more often. Now I realize that I can change my keybindings, but you have to understand that having keybindings in a different order than the skills on the screen gets pretty confusing – especially with weapon swapping.
I’ve tried lots of different bindings and it’s really just very frustrating. I’ve either got to deal with the repetitive motion discomfort, or constantly be hitting the wrong skills (which really takes the fun out of combat).
Seriously, for those who’ve never tried this: rebind your skill keys in the opposite order (1=5, 2=4, and so on). Then try and play.
The existing setup is just not ergonomic, and I’m finding that I’m reaching a point where if I play, even for a few minutes, my arm and elbow flare up. I don’t have this problem in any other game I play, because I can move skill icons around. Just GW2. I can go play WoW, right now, for a couple hours, and not have any pain or discomfort (well, physically anyway ). But I can’t play GW2 any more for more than a few minutes and I start to get sore.
Fellow players: Is anyone else having trouble with this? Have you found a solution?
ArenaNet: Please, make the UI just that little bit more user-friendly and intuitive. Just let us move weapon skill icons around in the same way that we can move utility skills around.
TL:DR – The existing, static, weapon skill setup in GW2 forces repetitive motion and is not ergonomic. Please allow for rearrangement of the weapon skills on the skillbar in addition to merely changing the keybindings.
Someday, someone’s going to make an innovative MMO that does away with having to gain zillions of levels, doesn’t require a gear grind, has an epic storyline, and legendary PvP.
ArenaNet did this with Guild Wars.
Whoever does it next will definitely have me playing for a long time.
Great. So I can run around to the same 3 jumping puzzles in LA with 10 characters and get the achievement?
What on Earth were they thinking? That’s just as much of a drag as finding 30 of them with one character. Seriously? Who thinks this is actually fun? They’ve just created something that the entire community is trying to figure out a way around.
Are the people who come up with new ideas at ArenaNet even gamers?
I’d be happy if I could just turn character voices off completely. No cheesy one-liners, no shouts, and no grunting and moaning. Please! It would improve the quality of my game an order of magnitude more than new content.
Kind of off-topic, but not really I guess:
Reading through this thread really brought back some great memories of the Guild Wars storyline. Such a rich world. I really enjoyed playing through Tyria, Cantha, and Elona. Many times
Somehow that depth of richness is just missing so far in GW2. None of the NPC’s so far are really all that memorable. I hope that richness and depth find their way into GW2, and soon.
I’d be interested in Tengu. And definitely Dwarves if they can somehow be worked back into the story in a meaningful way. Either/both sound like a lot of fun.
If we get Skritt, Quaggan, or Hylek, I’m giving up on GW lore and will go read the Twilight series, instead.
“In My View…”
or
“This Thread Has Been Locked.”
Apparently click-to-move is difficult to program in a 3-D world, and especially underwater.
To be honest, though, I find I prefer not having click-to-move because I don’t wind up accidentally clicking somewhere and going there. I’m comfortable now with the WASD and autorun, and it works fine for me.
What I do miss is being able to select an NPC or interactable object, press the spacebar, and have my character walk over to the NPC or object.
Also… to everyone who hates the grinding in GW2… did you ever play GW1?
Yes. This difference is: In GW1, anything you grinded for was a skin. You didn’t need to grind for better gear. You didn’t require titles to play.
In GW2, you’re offered a choice: grind your kitten off, buy from the cash shop, or go do something else.
GW2 is grindy beyond all belief. It’s worse than Aion.
Hello there old vets!
I have a little question for you: how do you like your new game? Do you think it’s better or worse than it’s predecessor?
Guild Wars is the far better game, in my opinion.
GW2 started off well enough, and because of my love for Guild Wars I was willing to forgive them for not keeping their promise of “when it’s ready”. I know they needed to get it released. What I expected after that, however, is not what happened.
I expected them to work harder on smoothing out the bugs and problems. I did not expect a complete about-face on the GW2 Design Manifesto.
http://www.arena.net/blog/guild-wars-2-design-manifesto.
I did not expect a completely buggy, crashing Karka event that was even less ready for release than the game itself. I would have thought that ArenaNet would have had a little bit more pride in themselves, and held themselves to higher standards.
The Ascended Gear debacle is the first thing that has ruined this game for me.
The fact that I have to either buy gold from ArenaNet or grind my kitten off to get said gear makes it even worse.
The sPvP is a crushing disappointment. No GvG, no ladders, nothing really to work towards.
The storyline is horribly written and voice-acted. It’s cheesy and annoying. The voice actors (with one or two exceptions) sound like they’re sitting in a room, reading a script, and have no concept of the context.
The audio (small thing for some, but this drives me insane) “one-liners” that my characters say have become so annoying I just want to log off. It’d be such a simple thing to give us a way to turn that off.
Finally, I can’t rearrange my skills on the UI. This is a terrible design. I’m forced to use my pinky and ring fingers FAR more than I ever would otherwise (in every single other game, I can put my skills where I want them, and the ones I use least go there).
Consequently, I started developing a repetitive motion injury in my elbow, from the tendon that connects those two fingers. Don’t tell me to rebind them either: it’s unintuitive and ridiculous to have to rebind keys in a different order than they’re presented on the screen. I should be able to move the skills. Every other game on the planet lets you move skills. This one should, too.
So those are a few of the reasons I like Guild Wars better than GW2. There are many more, but I’ll keep this short.
TL:DR – Guild Wars 2, after all the hype, the exiting Manifesto, and the long wait, is the biggest disappointment in gaming.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Pretty sure that applies to Congress, not ArenaNet.
At any rate, there is a profanity filter, and you can block people.
Why does it sound like there’s an adult movie happening in or around the Minister Wils mansion?
Play a female Sylvari. Engage in combat. You can take your Adult movie anywhere.
(grunt/squeak/moan)
I haven’t seen this NPC yet, but at night in the graveyard, I do sometimes hear what sounds like crying…
I’d like to request a cooking recipe that includes Quaggan. I can’t stand the little buggers as people, but they do look really tasty.
Now, I’m not sure if it should be a good woodsmoking recipe (perhaps cedar), or if we should take advantage of their marbly flesh and go with Quaggan sashimi.
Boy, that does sound good. Seawater Quaggan sashimi, with little wasabi, some soy sauce and ginger. Maybe a cup of sake to wash it down with. Quaggan tempura in udon sounds really good, too. This could be the centerpiece of every Canthan New Year feast henceforth!
Since freshwater wildlife doesn’t work as well uncooked, maybe we could smoke the freshwater ones, and have them with yams and steamed vegetables. Or slow-roasted, on a turning spit. Quaggan barbeque, you say? We could do that, too! That would be perfect on a sunny Saturday afternoon!
The possibilites are endless! Please, Quaggan cooking recipes for online epicureans!
Edit: Spelling.
Seeing Legendaries on the TP has removed any incentive I had to craft a Legendary. They’re pointless now, because they can just be bought with gold (or real money!).
Now when I see a person with a Legendary, I don’t know if they actually earned it, or just bought it. So, to me, having a Legendary is a waste of time and money. There’s no proof that “I earned this” at all.
Such a waste. I feel bad for the people who actually worked their butts off so they could have a prestigious Legendary. Their accomplishment has been cheapened.
My suggestion to ArenaNet:
1) Make all legendaries soulbound upon being created.
2) Get rid of the gems-to-gold conversion on the TP. It’s just not right that people with disposable income can just buy anything with real money, and take away the pride of accomplishment that everyone else would have had in acquiring rare skins.
I really agree with the OP, here.
I just want to play the game, not grind my kitten off to get gear that only seems to drop for botters, goldsellers, and people with no RL who can afford to spend hours upon hours doing the same, mind-numbing, repetative task over and over.
So many times I hear in guild chat: “Sorry, can’t do XXXXXX with you guys because I’m farming YYYYYY”.
Guild Wars was NEVER about gear. And it was FUN. I enjoyed levelling. I enjoyed going around and exploring and doing all the fun stuff there was to do.
This is just….ugh. I’d almost rather play WoW – if it’s going to be all about gear, at least if you kill a boss, you should get something.
Otherwise I feel like I’m wasting my time and start looking for other things to do instead of playing GW2.
And NO, I’m not spending money in the gem store so I can convert it to gold to buy the gear I don’t feel like grinding to get. I really wish the gems/gold converter would just GO AWAY. It’s horrible. A few rich people spend money there and completely destroy any sense of accomplishment there might be in working towards exotic or legendary gear.
But at the moment, my choices appear to be: grind my kitten off, spend real life money, or play something else.
Which of those three things do you think I’m going to do, when things start to get annoying and frustrating, ArenaNet?
It cheapens the accomplishment of crafting a legendary if someone with a lot of disposable real-life money can just buy gems, convert them, and buy the Legendary. Why would I want to spend all that time and effort to craft a Legendary?
From the day the first one appeared on the TP, I stopped wanting a Legendary. I won’t make one now, because anyone can just buy one with real money. Lame.
No GvG. No real ranking system. No GvG. No spectator modes. No GvG. Stale meta. No GvG.
This isn’t Guild Wars PvP at all. Disappointing, because back in the day, Guild Wars had the best PvP around.
I can’t fathom why they dropped that ball so hard.
Edit: It would be REALLY nice if someone from ArenaNet would come on here and explain what their vision for sPvP is. If they can get their act together, maybe someday they’ll attract the sPvP crowd back. I, for one, would love to know what they intend (just a broad-brush big picture would be fine) and about how long they think it’ll take to get it there.
(edited by Chuo.4238)
I thought we were suppose to get other alternative ways to get these like open world and wvw, this whole ascended gear thing seems very bias to GW2 new dungeon, what if you don’t want to do the FotM dungeon..
Then the only way, for now, is to craft a backpack.
Supposedly there will be more ways to get it in the open world in the future.
Raids? I just want an 8-person party.
Heard a rumour that T3 cultural gear was going to be made into Ascended gear once Ascended armor is released. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Also – if it is confirmed, if the T3 cultural gear has been transmuted onto other gear (because I wanted the skin with a different set of stats), will THAT gear get ascended properties?
Cheers
I am looking forward to getting the chance to connect with you all again soon. Until then i hope you are enjoying the Wintersday Celebrations and the holiday season in general.
Chris
Thanks, Chris. Will you PLEASE not do it on Reddit or some other third party website? Please do it on your own site so more people know where to go to find it.
And while you’re at it, mind communicating from places other than Reddit? Most people don’t use it. Try your own website, please, ArenaNet.
to everyone thinking or saying that infinite light is a legendary, you are wrong!!!!
kittenit look up what is requirerd for an actul legendary you noobs!
and then look whats requierd for infinite light (WHICH in fact is a UNIQUE exotic and NOT a legendary) .the difference in mats requiered and more is MASSIVE.
i get pisst when you all think you know what you are talking about when in fact you got it all wrong.LOOK IT UP!!!!!
Careful, mate. You don’t wanna have an aneurysm.
Now, to stay on topic – I’m not sure we can really judge until we find out when they’re going to release Ascended weapons, and what kind of grind it’ll take to get them.
For the record: this wouldn’t be a freakin’ issue if they hadn’t artificially raised the stats of Legendaries so they’re now the most powerful weapons in the game.
If legendaries were just skins, LIKE THEY SAID THEY WOULD ALWAYS BE BEFORE 15 November, we wouldn’t have this stupid problem.
sigh….please fix this game, ArenaNet, before you ruin it completely for casual players.
I do see that the price is now 800g, not 9500g. Still a LOT in terms of real-world money, but not so scary.
I stand corrected. The highest bid is 800g – the item on the TP is actually 9500g. That (if I can do math in public, and using the exchange rate I see now, and assuming it wouldn’t change) would cost someone about $750 USD to buy enough gems to change into enough gold…
I do see that the price is now 800g, not 9500g. Still a LOT in terms of real-world money, but not so scary.
I wouldn’t care if it was just a skin.
Since it has waaaay better stats than my exotic sword…well…the line between ingame currency and real money is starting to blur; and the design of the game is encouraging this.
I’m starting to feel very, very uncomfortable with the way this works. Either you spend a LOT of real money, or you grind your kitten off.
Again, if it was just a cool skin, I wouldn’t care. I’d actually spend a few years working towards it.
But this?
This is striking me as being very wrong, folks. I really feel like we’re being herded into that gem shop….
….and there are probably a few crazy people out there with that kind of real money who’ll spend it…and the rest of us are left with a horrendous grind.
I’m starting to wonder if the MMO genre in general is about to go down the dirty economical toilet, and Guild Wars 2 in particular.
Am I not the only one that’s really, really bothered by this? It feels so wrong.
Dear ArenaNet,
I’ve got all the jumping puzzle achievements now. My spacebar no longer works, right-clicking is hit-and-miss, I’ve got carpel tunnel, and I owe my firstborn to my therapist. Please don’t make any more.
Love,
Chuo
PS: Challenges/puzzles that don’t rely so heavily on reflexes, latency, and FPS would be most welcome. Scavenger hunts and riddles might be fun. Remember the Black Moa Chick in Guild Wars? You may also remember the puzzle elements of some of the old missions, such as Tihark Orchard and Dasha Vestibule. May we have more content like I just described, please, rather than repetitive spacebar-mashing? Personally, I’d find this much more rewarding, and less damaging to people and equipment!
No loot, no chest either
Oh God, please no.
The farther we can keep this game from NCSoft, the better.
It’s a step in between two existing tiers of gear. Why is this such a big deal?
Because there WAS NO GAP until they created it by upping the stats of Legendaries so they could introduce Ascended.
Are memories that short?
Until November 15th, Legendaries and Exotics HAD THE EXACT SAME STATS.
