OP,

We’ve gone round and round and round with ANet on this issue. They’re not gonna budge. For the record, however, I personally agree with you. It was way more fun to have all those skills to chose from and experiment with and create teambuilds with.

GW1 is far superior to this…in so many ways…not just this one…

GW ST is amazing. It’s a shame that GW2 put no thought or imagination into it and just randomly recycles GW1 ST music. It’s really kinda dumb to be in the Cliffside Fractal and hear Nightfall theme music…and that’s just one example.

Frankly, I don’t want to see Ascended gear at the TP. I don’t want to see Legendary gear at the TP, either. As long as people can buy gold with real money, I think it’s crap that they can just spend it on gear that they never had to actually earn.

OP:

Sorry this happened to you. Many of us were under the impression, when we bought Guild Wars 2, that this would never, ever happen. It’s a big reason why we bought Guild Wars 2. We were sick of WoW-like games where you constantly had to grind out your gear so you could play the content.

Unfortunately, ArenaNet is able to say that they never said that there wouldn’t be vertical progression in Guild Wars 2. And well, they never did come out and say that exactly. Where millions of Guild Wars fans all got the impression that there would never be vertical progression is anyone’s guess. Mass delusion, or something. It certainly never said “no vertical progression” here:

http://www.arena.net/blog/guild-wars-2-design-manifesto

…although the 8th paragraph under “rethinking combat” is intriguing…

Anyway. Feel glad that after all that time, money, and effort that you put into getting your character set up just how you wanted, you can now spend more time, money, and effort to get even better gear. Doesn’t that sound fun?

Hello, and thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to post about the issue with all sylvari females “yipping” occasionally when they take damage. A bug was found with one of the sound files—yes, a bona fide bug and not a matter of taste. The problem was fixed in a previous patch. I believe the fix came through with the Wintersday content.

Everyone who was plagued by the issue, feel free to play your female sylvari characters again and let us know what you think!

I’d think the best way to get their attention would be for the entire community to stay away from the Gem store.

Sadly, I’m suspicious that there are just enough people with too much money and too little sense that are buying loads of gems and turning them to gold for them to not really care.

Without specifics, it’s hard to know where to draw the line. In general, if you find that you are constantly in disagreement with the 4 other people in your party, then chances are good that you are that guy. The one who ruins PUGs because he expects everyone else to play how he wants instead of how the majority of the group wants. If this particular issue is a deal-breaker for you, then you should state very clearly up front when joining a party that you’re not willing to play in any way that is not clearly intended by the developers. Otherwise you are a submarining the PUGs that you join.

Asking people not to take advantage of glitches and bugs is pretty reasonable, I think.

If there are mobs that you can just skip by running through or around them – well, I don’t see that as an exploit. You haven’t “broken” anything, or taken advantage of something that’s broken. Maybe the group wants to skip, but you want to kill them. This could be a case of “that guy” if you cause a wipe or rage or whine because you didn’t get your way.

On the other hand…

Bypassing an area because you can stack up and use an engineer turret to get through a piece of terrain that you’re not supposed to get through is not how the dungeon was designed to be played. Stacking on a boss so it keeps dropping the hammer when it’s not supposed to is not how the dungeon was designed to be played. These are not viable strategies against designed mechanics. These are taking advantages of bugs, and exploiting them.

So here it’s not a case of being “that guy” who wants everything done his way. It’s a case of knowing that people are doing something that they shouldn’t be doing, and not wanting to participate, and not feeling that it’s right to ask anyone else to do it, either.

Make sense?

Hey all,

I like to play with randoms sometimes. It’s often a great way to meet new people and learn new ways of doing things. I agree, sometimes things can go horribly wrong, but I find that mostly people are pretty nice, and it’s enjoyable to play together.

I’ve only got one thing I’d like to bring up about this:

I’m constantly being asked by randoms to exploit glitches, especially in Fractals of the Mists. And sometimes, players actually get upset and rage when I decline.

Think about this.

You may have noticed that ArenaNet bans people who exploit.

It’s extremely rude to ask someone to risk a ban just to make your dungeon easier. It’s very presumptuous to assume that you have the right to risk someone else’s account.

If you’re with randoms, Do not ask people to exploit glitches. Ever.

Just play the game, and if you find a bug, report it.

What the?…

He’s spent SO much money on gems holy crap, I haven’t even spent a dime but this guy…. lmfao, is this how people get their Legendaries?

Yea and as long as there are a few people out there that spend that kind of money, they don’t have to care about the opinions of the enormous number of people who either don’t buy gems, or just buy a few on occasion.

And, given that almost every Fractal group I get into has someone with a Legendary nowadays, I’m pretty sure that people are just buying them, and not actually earning them.

As long as Legendaries can be bought, I’m not getting one. For all anyone knows, I just dumped real-life money into it. My sets of Obsidian Armor in GW1 were a matter of pride, because whenever you see someone wearing it, you know they put in the work. Not so with GW2 Legendaries.

Fractal weapons are Exotic weapons that drop in the higher levels (20+) of the Fractals of the Mists. These weapons are account bound when received out of the Daily Reward Chest. Fractal weapons do not have attributes nor weapon sigils on them. It is intended that players use Fine Transmutation Stones to combine the look of a Fractal weapon with the stats of another weapon.

Jan/Feb patches: Make or break time?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Chuo.4238

Yea it’s pretty much make or break time for me.

After the Karka debacle, and the huge amount of trust that ANet has lost from their playerbase due to both the Ascended Gear thing and the way we’re being funneled into grind or Trading post, it’s definitely time to see if they start charting a course back to their Manifesto.

If the level cap raises, or we get gear higher than ascended, or we keep having to “pay to win” then this is not the game for me.

Moreover communication from ANet needs to be more frequent, more responsive to the players, have less marketing spin, and not on websites that most people dont subscribe to (i.e. Reddit).

On topic: I feel GW1 within GW2. Faintly, but it is there. Sadly, it feels Like today’s ANet is totally different ANet from the GW1 heyday. Shame…

Agree. I think this is where the crux of the problem lies. The communication is poor, and everything alluded to in the Manifesto is largely wrong.

Since it took waaaaaaaaaay to long for them to develop this, I’ve kind of got the feeling that somewhere in the middle of the process something really big changed. Management philosopy, for one. Other major aspects of the game as well.

Sadly, we’ll never really know. But I’m quite sure that the team that built Guild Wars and started GW2 is different than the one that finished GW2, both in (some) personnell, and in general philosophy.

The only way I could see ArenaNet implementing direct trade is if it was a barter system ONLY.

No gold can be transferred during a trade. It could only be item(s) for item(s).

I could happily live with this. When the ele gets a greatsword drop, and the warrior gets a wand, it’d be nice if they could just trade.

If you thought the message spamming in GW1 was horrible, a direct trade system, even if it was barter only, would be SO much worse.

Didn’t think the message spamming was a problem at all in GW1. Did you notice that you could open your Party menu and look at the Trade window to see what was out there?

At any rate, Map Chat is full of various kinds of spams and juvenile crap as it is. I mostly keep it turned off, anyway. Of course, if a Trade chat were implemented….

Market manipulators…

I wouldn’t care if I wasn’t forced to use the TP to trade with people. In any other game, I can directly trade and not have to deal with such manipulators. Another player and I can agree on a price for something completely independently of anyone else.

But in GW2, not being able to directly trade forces everyone to use market value on items, which makes it very enticing for people to try and manipulate the market.

In GW2, if I want to sell you an item for some price other than what some person with more time and gold than I have has pricefixed on the TP, I’ve either got to trust that you’ll mail me the funds when I mail you the item, or put it on the TP and hope you’re the one who gets to it first, and not one of the manipulators.

I realize that you (ArenaNet) have said that you did away with direct trading because you fear scamming. Please, after months now, you must see that without direct trading, EVERYONE can be scammed by one person. Moreover, trying to circumvent this requires trust between two players, either one of whom may not deliver on the agreement.

Another thought (and I’ve got no evidence for this): logic tells me that many of said manipulators are of the RMT variety. They actually have the gold and time to manipulate markets (heck, it’s their job!).

Please Implement Direct Trading between players! Stop forcing us to use the Trading Post where prices may be driven by manipulators!

Question to Guild Wars 1 players

I see a lot of comments in this thread about the gem store. I have to agree with most of it.

In principle, I’m not opposed to the gem store. Cosmetic stuff and whatnot is fun, and I’d be happy to buy it.

But there are three things about the gem store that really are beginning to seem very dodgy and manipulative to me:

1) You can buy gems with cash and then turn it to ingame gold.

2) If you work out how much it costs (in real money) to buy your 5 Fine Transmutation Stones, and then take into account that you actually need 6 to transmute a complete set of armor (so double the price), you might realize just what else you can buy with that kind of money (groceries, for example). The prices really smack of greed.

3) The rarity of certain drops and materials essentially forces players to grind their kitten of, or, spend real money in the store. This was reinforced the first time I saw a Legendary on the TP. Moreover so when you start to realize how expensive MF infusions can get (stack of T6 materials, and all).

This is really starting to seem like B2P, with a lot of Pay to Win thrown in. Not fun.

I’m almost tempted to get my tinfoil hat out again after reading this thread…

I guess I see it pretty simply: Don’t exploit. Period. It ruins the game for everyone.

If you find an exploit that the devs missed, report it.

If you know people who are exploiting, kick them from your guilds and report them.

If you are taking advantage of an exploit, you might want to have a look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself some hard questions about your character.

I don’t care if ArenaNet made a mistake with their coding, or overlooked something. If you exploit, you are making the game suck for me and everyone else, and if I find out about it, I will report you.
