To me what is happening is the stomp fails when I am using quickness.
One more example I am not the cause of the defeats (not always) happened in the last match:
In Temple of Silent Storm I warned my team about Tranquility 30 seconds earlier, so I went to defend the spirit. I was able to defend it alone for 30s in a 1×2 fight, while 3 players of my team were fighting for ferocity…
(edited by Coelho Nat.4697)
The common denominator is you. Sure there are outliers like AFK’ers and team speak opponents that are beyond your control but
I am not the best player in the world, just average.
What do you base this on? Leaderboard percentile is a good measure (win/loss records are relative to the particular pool you’re in so 45% win/loss ratio at the 95th percentile is more skilled than a 60th percentile player with a 60% win loss so while they matter aren’t as important as leaderboard points in judging skill) but that is taken down.
If you are worse than average in reality it just means you need to learn more basic things including map awareness, rotations, and skill. What exactly is skill however? The word is thrown around a lot, we know it when we see it or a lack of it, but how do we define it?
Skill is the precise timing of optimal skills, especially interrupts and dodges for a given situation. If I have distracting daggers out and someone is glowing light blue for example I know I should spend a dagger within milliseconds because I know if it connects too late he’ll get the heal off whereas an interrupt with that particular ability means he’s locked out of the heal for 10 seconds. I know I have lots of room for improvement because while the skill reliably interrupts certain skills some skills are quite fast so I need to practice tighter reaction time. Since autoattacks have no cooldowns the skill doesn’t work for them but may still be an okay idea to spend a dagger on it just for the pulminary impact.
Or it could be chaining skills like the Glint reveal and sword 5 to ensure you pull a stealthed opponent off a rezzer. Likewise a left arm moved back and pulling in pinkish energy means the moa transform spell is coming so dodge it. There are countless examples.
I know it is not my fault (not totally) when: the thief keeps zerging and dying in the aoe. The ele dies in like 2 hits. My team keeps going to a extremely defended point and losing time there. We winning by more than 100 points at Legacy of Foefire and my team rushes the lord, losing the match, and so on. In some matches my team is unable to cap 1 point, no kidding.
Of course, part of the defeats are mine too since I am part of the team, but it is not mine alone. Not to mention I reached last tier of division 3 playing full solo, so I am not a noob. The problem started in the last patch.
(edited by Coelho Nat.4697)
I support this idea. The mobs in training area worths for nothing. A 1×1 area is a fast way to practice new builds, classes, check the damage outupt, etc.
I am on last tier of division 3, but is absolutely impossible to reach division 4. I win 1, but lose like 4 in a row. It started since the last patch.
I am not the best player in the world, just average. However, I noticed I am always being set to the weakest side over and over. I already tried to change classes, different times of the day, but nothing works. Since the last patch it is absolutely impossible to leave this tier. I am absolutely so tired of this. I just keep trying because of the achievement.
MMR and match making? explain this, look how lopsided the losses are.
At least you got a victory on there.
I’d just won 4 in a row, got to diamond tier 4 and 2 pips (only ever soloq’d), then all of a sudden 10 straight losses and back down to tier 2 and 2 pips.
What has happened these last few days?
It is hapenning to me too. Every single time I reach 23 or 24 pips, I start getting very bad matches and lose like 10 matches in a row.
Btw, I noticed that today there were many matches with unbalanced teams like 3 thieves on the same side, 3 dh, 3 elem, etc. (and the other team having none). All those players were solo.
(edited by Coelho Nat.4697)
I am stuck at division 3. I don’t know why, every time I reach 24 pips, I start getting very bad matches and lose 10 in a row. It already happened lik 5×.
A good thief is very useful, but 2 thieves in the same team is a problem. It is hard to hold the points and deal with enemy aoe.
When Anet will realize that this kind of problem only keep people away from pvp?
They ignore when we report because they don’t want to suspend players, but it makes other players hate pvp.
Also, this problem when someone dc and the team lose pips should already been solved.
Anet stated that the legendary wings would not be possible to forge in only 1 season, so you are unable to complete Ascension Part IV. The achievement will continue in next season.
I like much more the armor than the outift. With armor you can mix the parts and we can have a great variety.
I do agree with most of what was said: it is a really useful tool. However, 700 gems for only 1 slot is too much overpriced.
I would agree to pay 700 gems for 3 slots, or 1000 gems for 5 slots, for instance.
It depends on the match conditions.
Positive aspect of holding mid is that it is closer to home than the far node, so it is faster to move from one to another to help. Negative aspect is that it needs a lot of effort to hold during the match.
In my opinion there is no let’s do only this at the beginning of the match. The team needs to adapt depending on how the enemy team works. If mid is undefended, so it is wise to cap it. The same for far node and so on.
but..but.. u have a thief! ur supposed to lose… :x /wink /wink
Sad but true
Unpolite/Toxic chat is one of the main factors which make players avoid pvp. Unfortunatlly, Anet does nothing about those toxic players.
However, in this season, players have been more polite. Maybe I am being luck or in low division yet. Or do they just block the chat to avoid stress during the league?
I have similar problem, but not with tiers, but classes. When I play Rev or Guardian I think my win ratio is 10%. I am not the best pvp player in the world, but I am very very far from being this bad. I clearly see my team set for those 2 classes is weaker always.
This league season is terrible.
The fact that the system has failures is not the major issue since it is not possible to predict every possible scenario. The problem is that everybody is telling Anet what are the problems and Anet dont fix them. They must be on vacation now at the beach…
I also lost a match with a party of 5 with 4 players above my division. My entire team was solo with the same division as mine. We lost and I lost pip…
Anet will not fix this in this season.
In the exact moment people play the most (holiday vacation), Anet go vacation too. Genious!
It is hapenning to me mainly in Rev. For instance, I activate quickness to finish, but for some reason it is normal the finish doesn’t work.
Here’s my matchmaking story. 10% win rate over the past couple of days.
ANET this reminds me of the movie, “The Producers.” The two protagonists figure out that they can make more money failing than succeeding.
I honestly don’t understand the silence from the devs and system that seems almost optimized to be exploited? Please explain.
I am in the same situation. I am playing Revenant most of time since it is the class I haven’t completed the pvp achievements. My win ratio is like 10-20%. As I said in the other topic, I am not the best Rev in the world, but I am very very far from being the worst as the win ratio could suggest. MMR is complete broken for this char.
As someone already stated: if metabattle is removed, another site will take place.
Also, metabattle is a very useful site, mainly for casual pvp player as me. I always can go there and check for builds I can test. After that, I can adapt the build. I can also always see some vids of how to play, what I am doing wrong, etc.
I have 5 wins in 18 matches as Revenant. 2 wins in the last 11 matches.
I am not good, just average as Revenant, but have fought far worse players than me. I am sure that the mmr for this class is completely broken for me. Anyway, if I am complete crap with this class (I am sure am not this bad), why the system keep setting me in the weaker team?
(edited by Coelho Nat.4697)
Unfortunatelly Anet made this in purpose. They want to sell the expansion and thus, made the especialization OP.
I completed 13 single achievements in “Year of the ascension Part I” (already excluding the “Beginning the ascension journey”).
However, I am unable to start Part II since my meta still shows 10/11. Anyone having the same issue?
The only positive thing I have seen in this season is that people has been more polite during the matches. It is rare to see someone blaming or offending the others (or it happens because I am still in tier 2?).
API shows only the last 10 matches, sadly.
I also would like to know the statics over the entire season.
I do agree that every kind of build should be viable: bunker, dps, and mid term.
The bunkers have great advantage in the present patch. Some of them take forever to kill even in a 2×1 situation.
I don’t know if it was the best, but it was the build I adapted faster: Warrior shoutbow.
It was very easy to adapt, had great team support, 100% of time swiftness, and could win most of the 1×1 battles.
Dude, i don’t want to be an kitten (probably I will ) but every your recent topic/reply is a complain about how people reached diamond/legendary “cheating” (lol), how bad matchmaking is, how bad the world is, how bad this, how bad that etc.
Have you considered the chance you’re just bad at pvp and there is not a conspiracy around you?
I’ll tell you a secret, there are people better than you, so less complain and try to improve yourself instead of crying on everything
Deal with that or simply play something different.
If he is a bad player as you state (I don’t know him so I have no idea if he is good or bad), it proves the MMR system is broken anyway. Why the system keep putting him against “better players” rather than setting more even matches? It only proves the system is broken.
I would change the system of pips by a score system. For instance, you earn 150 points per victory
- in tier 1 one doesn’t lose points if loses a match and complete the tier after X points
- in tier 2 one loses 50 points if loses
- in t3 one loses 100 points if loses
and so on
Trying to win a single match the entire day:
7 loses in a row as a Necromancer followed by
4 loses in a row as a Thief
Thank you very much for the MMR system.
The type of player that makes me block all chat during pvp matches.
In fact, I would lose all the matches using any build or even if I were the best player in the world.
The matches were completely unbalanced and that is my main complain.
7 loses in a row. From those 7 matches my team stand a chance in only 1. In all the others we were completely destroyed.
I am far from being the best mesmer in the world, but I always kept 50% or more win ratio in unraked arenas.
Ty MMR system.
Playing most of the classes for me is ok with the current MMR – win/loses near 50% ratio. However, for some reason, it has been extremely hard win with thief class. I am far from being the best thief of the game, but I am not the worst. It is noticeable that I always got in the weaker team composition.
It is not a good idea to remove daily from hot joint because if it can’t be completed there, players will join arenas. So imagine a lot of new/casual/non-competitive/testing build players in arenas…
If daily can be completed in hot join, these players will not affect the most competitive aspect of arenas.
Btw, hot joins need to be fixed, but not this way.
(edited by Coelho Nat.4697)
Map completion is not hard if you get used to it (I completed it 8x).
In my opinion, the main problem are the quests, WP, PI, and SP which are completely invisible on the map unless you are above it (like the new quests in Plains of Ashford).
i dun understand why ppl play HOtjoin..to slove the quetime issue is simple just remove hotjoin and ppl will join unrank…to me even when hotjoin is around the que time is quite fast average 3min wait time
People choose hot join because ranked/unranked arena is too toxic (many unpolite players, insults, afk ing, etc. and anet does nothing about that.
Many times I suggested changes in hot join system since in 95% of the matches it is completely unbalanced. It makes any kind of practice/training completely ineffective.

Do teams actually end up winning while ignoring team chat?
I noticed that when I’m in a team that ignores the chat, people also tend not to call targets, run around aimlessly, and ultimately we loose.
On the other end, when there’s proper communication in team chat, I notice that people also call targets, rotate, and we normally win.As a consequence of that, I always assumed that not communicating was something a bad/inexperienced player did. So I was surprised to find out that some people keep team chat turned off by choice and not by mistake…
In my opinion, if a person cannot handle the possibility of criticism (and thus keep team chat turned off by default), they shouldn’t really play PvP at all…
I do agree with you. In my experience (unranked arenas), teams that communicates increases the chance of winning. Even simple calls like “inc to mid”, “I go home”, etc. are helpful.
I don’t know how it affects ranked arenas since I don’t play them because there are too many unpolite players (and unfortunatelly anet does not about it).
Meta builds are popular not because they are the strongest ones (except D/D elementalist maybe), but because they are easier to adapt. When I start a class, I will try meta build first and adapt it as I get more experience.
I do agree though. Some classes and builds are much more frequent than others.
I understand if someone turns off the map/whisper/say chat (I also turn them off during pvp matches), but team chat is necessary for a minimum of organization.
It is getting really annoying. Apparently nodoby read team chat to adjust the team tatics.
Many times you try to advice your team: “Don’t go alone to point X because there is a bunker protecting it”, “Don’t zerg”, “Rush lord”, etc.
And in 90% of the time is like speaking to a wall.
No huge path since you stopped playing. Anet devs are busy with the expansion for months.
As people already said: try it after HoT release (in 1 month). It will probably have lot of new content even if you don“t have the expansion.
This large range for the 10% top players is probably due to the huge number of players who have very few AP, specially after the f2p.
It is common for me to have more AP than all my party together, and I am not top 100 or even close to.
Spirit shards or Obsidian shards are not an issue for me. The problem is when you exchange 10 globs of ectoplasm and 10 Mystical coins for items like leather and gossamer scraps. It really hurts.
As people suggested already: try to change map and get one with events. There are lot more event maps than chest run maps. No need to nerf.
Although I can understand your point of view: the reward/chests could drop during the events.
In my experience (I have forged many legendaries and clovers), the probability is very close to the one stated by wiki: 230-250 to get 77 mystic clovers.
In any case, if you get valuable T6 materials, it is not lost money. The problem is when you get leather, ore or something similar.

I am completely disapointed with the items sale. I saved some gems just for the sales, but after 21 days, I bought only 2 watchwork mining picks and some minor items with great discount but limited to only 1 purchase.
I have 8 chars lv 80 full equiped (1 of each class) + 4 that I use only for pvp.
After HoT release, I will increase to 9 the chars lv 80.
