Make jumping puzzles less frustrating

They’re frustrating for a reason, that’s why you get an achievment for completing them.

I don’t mind frustrating, I seriously mind shenanigans.

And by shenanigans I mean invisible walls. There are a number of spots where it looks like I can jump only to be, literally, shoved away from my goal in mid air, and plummeted to the ground.

Yeah, I call shenanigans on this. If it looks like I can jump there, then kitten it, let me jump there. If you don’t want me to jump from A to B then put a ruttin’ wall I can see there.

Oh yeah. And about Lightning Flash and Blink. I fail to understand why these don’t work on uneven ground in general and in jumping puzzles in particular. Seriously, if you want 2 or 3 tough jumps in there so people have the option of using that skill and then jumping normally to finish the tough jumps or deciding to wait on that skill use for a later jump.

But seriously… lose the cheaty-face invisible walls.

Kernel, there’s just too many problems.

What do you suggest that isn’t a bird, bear, cat, or dog.

Shark, Skelk, Drake, Bat, Ooze, etc, etc, etc. Whatever’s in the game already.

How do you work them for all the races? How do they all animate, what are the skills for each one. How do their weapons work.

Races are irrelevant, changing into an animal changes your character model. Many of the animations are already in the game for their wild counterparts.

And if they have no weapons, do they simply get stats that scale with their level? How is that fair to everyone else who has to actually upgrade their stuff.

Or make the shapeshifter have reasons to stay in human form so they have reasons to use level appropriate gear.

And what about underwater? Do they get special aquatic forms? And how do you balance that?

What’s the first animal I listed? Shark! But there are amphibious animals in the game, and other aquatic animals. Have ANet do as they did with Skills, some can be used underwater, some can’t. Some forms can be used on land, some can’t.

How do you balance them at all? A weaponless, shapeshifting class with access to four forms, 20 different weapon skills with no weapon required, and who knows what for utilities.

Elementalist is balanced with 20 abilities and no weapon swap. Heals and utilities would have to be balanced by ANet, who already seem to have done a pretty good job balancing the rest of the game.

And how do you explain it? Where did they come from? Does this supposed druidism simply spring up and kick the Druids that already existed in the game as followers of Melandru out?

Or make the new Druids followers of Melandru.

Nevertheless, this is a point I will gladly concede to you. Lore is very important (whether other people recognize this or not) and this would stretch the lore pretty far.

And why, look, the entire Norn race are just big human druids. The thing that defined the race from the second conversation you ever had with one is now common to every race on Tyria.

Animists, yes. Druids, no I don’t think so.

Yes, they have a unique racial ability. No, I don’t want to see a shapeshifting class step on that uniqueness.

I am personally on the fence regarding this suggestion (contrary to my first post in this thread). I suppose ANet could do this properly, but it would take a lot of stretching of the lore and I am not sure how it could be done without diminishing the Norn.

You can set ground targeted AoEs to fire on activation under Options. So move the mouse to where you want it, and press a number key. Done. No $60+ mouse needed. I wouldn’t complain if they added more keyboard camera controls though.

Weapon swap for Ele's

If you want it to be easier to swap weapons out of combat, why not give rangers eleven slots, and only two that work in combat, so that they can switch to their Sword/Axe, or Axe/Warhorn, or Greatsword, or Longbow, or Shortbow, or Axe/Dagger, or Sword/Torch out of combat a bit easier?

Actually that’s been suggested in another thread. Put all possible weapon combos into swap slots for every class and flag 2 of them as combat swaps for most classes (i.e. not Elementalist or Engineer) and call it a day.

My Elementalist uses a different weapon (Staff) for traveling and DEs, while equipping dual Daggers or Scepter/Dagger for “hunting”. Being able to change conveniently, and without having to hunt through my inventory to find which Staff, Scepter, or Dagger I want equipped (or the risk of selling/salvaging a weapon I’m using) would be a great QoL improvement in this game.

I like to experiment with different weapons on the classes that do allow in combat weapon swap as well, so making that experimenting easier would make me do the happy dance.

The only way to deal with RMT spam of any form is to ban the account after 100+ people report it.

Before people say that large guilds would abuse this, it takes 10 seconds or less to review the spam email and decide if it’s RMT spam or not. If people falsely report other players as RMT spammers you ban them. If 50% of a guild falsely reports someone as an RMT spammer you disband the guild. We don’t want griefers or spammers ruining the game for legit players.

I feel like a deeper semblance of trinity would only help this game’s combat to be more structurally engaging. I don’t think it could possibly harm the game. It was done well in GW1, i don’t know why they decided to gut the strategy and tactical combat from their franchise. I’m tired of stupid, incoherent zergs with narrow mechanics and options for the player. This combat isn’t going to hold a playerbase like GW1 did so successfully. Take heed, ArenaNet. The innovations are not as good as you percieve them to be.

How anyone can equate “you must make your team with this makup only” (i.e. the trinity) with anything resembling “tactics” is beyond me.

You moan about zerging because you don’t understand two basic facts about this game.

#1. This game is not your standard MMO. It is actually closer to an Action RPG (think Diablo) than an MMO.

#2. You don’t use combo fields.

If you would learn and use combo fields you would now have a sense of the tactics and synergies available to you in a party in this game.

Fast paced? Yes. Zerg? No.

My Guardian has more blocks and blinds than any other class, but it’s designed to not work 100% time, otherwise it would be tanking. So at some point the boss is going take 90% of my HP in one shot and I have to run until he loses interest.

Not to be rude, but you’re doing it wrong.

Take the Utility skill Save Yourselves. It casts (I believe) every Boon in the game on you with a 5 second duration. Switch one of your main hand weapons to Mace, 2 of the 3 attacks (#1 & #2) have a heal. Combined with you Virtue that heals and your #6 slot heal, you are golden the majority of the time.

I use a Torch in my off hand it’s more offensive. However someone else has recommended Shield. I assume that would increase your survivability even more than my setup.

Elementalist has the same issue, only worse.

One of the suggestions has been for an OOC weapons swap for all classes, including slots to hold each weapon that removes it from inventory (i.e. it can’t be sold/salvaged by accident.

What I do in the mean time is keep an equipment box in the last bag slot. All equipment goes in there automatically. Yes, it means I have to look at every piece and make sure I have the best one somewhere safe before I sell/salvage, but I just do the comparison manually and move the piece I’m parting with out of the Equipment bag before I open the Vendor/CH window.

I’d also like to second Arghore’s motion that you start a 2nd thread for the Party invite chime. It is an excellent idea that deserves it’s own discussion to call it to the attention of the devs.

To answer your question “What do I think” (presumably about your topic ):

I think I don’t have to hunt down 10 Centaurs. I’m having them delivered.

I also think that I don’t have to walk for 15 minutes to find the area where the centaurs hang out, then kill 100 of them to find the 10 with bladder infections, and then walk another 15 minutes to bring the 10 infected centaur bladders back to the sicko who sent me after them.

However, the progress bar on the event could be changed to a percentage completion, and the number of waves made into a random number between 5 & 15. Each wave could then be a random number of centaurs = to 2-4 centaurs per player present (rolled per player, not X (d2+2).

If the queue times are excessive use a combination of WP and walking to get to your nearest city, then WP for free to the gate to LA, from LA to the city nearest your lowbie friends, and it should be a short foot slot from there to them.

A Tax-Free Virtual World

in Suggestions

Colonel Kernel.7506

Why do we actually need to pay taxes in the game?

And don’t give me the reason of “game economy” because i don’t bite on that.

Let me explain in simple terms how in game economies work.

A good character/player at or near the level cap can generate about one gold per hour.

Now what are they going to spend that on? Not much.

Crafting doesn’t cost that much and doesn’t return the type of items someone at the level cap wants anyway.

Vendors? What vendor has anything someone at the level cap wants?

The TP? With no listing fee all of that goes to another player. It stays in the game.

As pre WWII Germany learned the hard way, the solution to inflation is not to print more money. Supply and demand are very real, very valid market forces. If you have an unlimited supply of money (i.e. generating 1g per hour just as you play) something MUST be done to remove this money from circulation (i.e. the game) or the net value of each piece of currency becomes less and less.

None of this has a single thing to do with taxation, it’s a long standing reality of game economics.

Now do I think that ANet has gone a bit overboard with the gold sinks (that’s what all the costs are called)? Yes, I think they could tone them down a bit.

But your rant against taxation has nothing to do with this little corner of virtual space.

It’s not hard to craft or buy larger bags, or hit a vendor and sell junk & goods, or salvage items and deposit to collections.

Seriously, if you use the market regularly you’re getting ripped off.

Add 10c (if 10% is too much) to the vendor buy price for the TP minimum sales price, at least make it worth my time to wait and then run fetch my money.

Problem:
Items sell on the TP for the price a vendor would pay, +1c.

Proposed solution:
Add 10% to the vendor buy price and set this as the minimum price on the BLTP.

Reasoning:
Most, if not all, of the crafted/dropped items are not available through a vendor at all. It is understandable that a vendor would buy from an adventurer at a lower price as they intend to resell the item.

And now the player has a decision, put the item on the market, possibly competing with thousands of identical items, or get instant gratification with a smaller profit margin.

Currently it’s a no brainer. I can list a 45c item for 46c and pay a 2c listing fee, when/if it sells. Or I can take my 45c from the vendor right now. Gee…. let me think about that for a minute.

Benefit to ANet and players:
This creates a larger gold sink to help prevent inflation.

I’ve often used dueling as a more interactive way to test things out. You know, a “let me see if this build can beat you now” type of thing. Plus, it’s fun.

I am all for preferences where you can choose to 1) automatically refuse all duel requests or 2) automatically refuse all duel requests if not friend-ed or grouped with requester. I have experienced the pushy strangers that spam dueling requests and probably would enable option “2” myself if it existed.

I can also see how it might break immersion in cities. I would fully support an option of dueling only in the Mists, outside of city limits, and designated areas in cities like fighting pits, if that is the concern. The Bane seems like a good area in the Black Citadel.

I’m glad someone else understands why I want the option to ignore duel requests.

As for dueling in cities, make it so! Put an arena in, Arena Net :P! Maybe only in Lion’s Arch if you don’t want to put one in every city.
