Maybe on your server. On ours, if the word gets out that a GvG is happening, half the map will turn up to watch. Do NOT assume it’s a minority interest just because you’re not interested.
Let me guess, American or German?
Actually, English and I’ve taken part in a few GvGs too.
Half the bg makitten till only a few people. Usually it’s 2 or 3, sometimes a half-dozen maybe occasionally a high profile match might draw maybe a score – absolute tops.
Compared to the numbers engaged in almost ANY other activity, it’s chicken feed. However you or I may feel about it, I seriously doubt Anet consider it worth a moment’s thought.
They barely give any to WvW anyway.
There’s no doubt that some people like the GvG meta.
However, it isn’t WvW, it’s a minority interest within WvW.
That makes it a minority within a minority and therefore of no commercial value – sorry guys, you’ll have to be happy with the bit of space that’s been cleared for you by the windmill. (Hope you don’t mind the pigs)
What? This thread again?
I dare say some people might get fun out of it, but buying a second account just to troll it (or maybe both?) sounds a bit pointless.
Then again, some people are weird.
Just run away, you daft kitten. There’s no point whatsoever in wasting effort to kill a thief. Gankers are only as annoying as you let them be.
Anything (except thief) specced glass canon is asking for a quick trip to the Waypoint.
Not as long as the wvw ranks aren’t account wide ;[
this^^
I’m happy with the buff as it is. I could wish it kicked in a little sooner. It sometimes feels like I need to be the only player on the field for it to activate.
But yes, no repair cost is great, MF is a small bonus.
I don’t think it should turn you into battlefield god. That wouldn’t be fair to the server that DID get out of bed early.
Meh – I don’t understand why Anet are wasting effort on this sort of fine detail tuning when there are far more important issues with WvW.
There is only one trait line worth pursuing and you need max points there to get any benefit from it. (Anyone in any doubt which one I mean?)
I just quit my guild. They took little to no interest in server WvW and went looking for fights with similar sized units. We besieged towers regularly just to try and flush out a fight and would abandon the attempt if no response.
Sometimes we did something useful, maybe ninja a keep or take down an enemy blob but it was more by accident than design.
It was fun at first – then it got old.
A five-man squad is a completely different animal from solo roamers, which is what the OP was talking about.
Nobody would deny that a squad is a useful unit. In fact, if I had my way, the whole zerg would organise into functional, coordinated squads.
You can mail old siege, equip it in hand, drop it with ` or w/e you have drop bound to and repick it up. Now you can mail it or trade it
I don’t think you even need to drop it.
This was handed out by Anet as a cure for the similar problem selling old siege on the TP.
All you need to do is equip one item and then put it back (skill 2). The whole stack then becomes sell-able ( and presumably mail-able)
Don’t bother reading this.
It’s a portal bug that happens with any TP ability by any class. It’s happened to me on my Guardian. It’s been acknowledged and a fix promised. Endof.
Right – carry on.
Meh – the stats are hardly different. Considering the grind-cost, it just isn’t worth worrying about it.
If it gives people something to do apart from WvW, I say let them do it.
Is this SUPPOSED to happen?
I’ve just watched a half-dozen or so Ranger pets running up and down the wall in SM destroying siege and NPCs. Apparently they just enter regardless of the walls and doors and just run amok.
Is this intended? I don’t remember seeing it happen before.
It’s a kitten-sight easier to clear a WvW map than it is to get completion in Orr.
It never occurred to me to worry about it, I just wandered about with the zerg and took the vistas and skill points when we passed through. It’s especially easy with the new match-up system because your colour gets changed nearly every week.
BTW – s’funny – but I find PvE is just annoying.
Well, they’ve only got one guy to handle all the customer relations for WvW and it’s probably not his full-time job.
Aw c’mon.
The fight for jobs in this sector is huge – personally, I would have given both legs and a kitten to work in it – as it is I had to… well, you don’t want to know.
Maybe the corporate finance sector or Internet stuff makes more money – but Jeeeeez, what’s job satisfaction worth?
As for the rest of it, I stick by what I said. Last thing any programmer wants to do, (in any sector) is to stress-test the code. That’s definitely one for the hired help.
But definitely not the end-users! Oh dear Beelzebub no!
You can’t really blame the troops. I’ve followed commanders running in circles for minutes on end before I realised the guy was a totally clueless.
OTOH, with others, it only took me a few seconds to realise the guy was a kitten-hole.
I prefer clueless.
You don’t seriously think that the people who make big bucks in program development would waste their time playing video games?
They probably hire a bunch of schoolkids to look it over and give feedback.
We all decided placing it on the arrow cart we had facing the tower was ideal.
nice!
I thought you could mail them now?
Roamers are pretty well irrelevant. That’s because on the whole, camps, dolyaks and sentries are of very, very minor importance. Even towers are generally unimportant strategically (with one or two exceptions)
The battle is largely over who holds the keeps and the strategic towers and because of the way the game is structured, there’s little point in worrying too much about upgrading anything else. Very often (in fact, usually) the battle will roll over a structure, cap it and leave. The only value of supply camps and most towers is as a source of siege equipment supply.
The idea of ‘cutting off supply’ as a game mechanic has failed because camps are so vulnerable. They can be switched back-and-forth at any moment by minor forces. The only real obstacle being the buff timer.
That’s not the way it works.
Anet will have been having development meetings for months at which all the pro’s and con’s of all the ideas on the table will have been discussed in detail including projected timelines, costings etc.
Suggestions from the community will have taken a back seat throughout all that – simply because the players in general haven’t a clue what’s involved in implementing their ideas.
If we are very lucky we might get some sort of movement in the general direction of improving the command structure (It’s been officially mentioned as a possibility).
But as to specific ideas such as those presented here – forget it.
Trolololololololllll
Seriously? Thief is the most boring class ever. You either one-shot your opponent or you run away.
It’s about exactly as much skill and fun as snatching handbags off little old ladies.
OK – If you’re still having trouble, here’s how it’s done
1/ Get alongside the commander, wait for him to say ‘GO!’.
2/ Hit Virtue of Justice
3/ Foot down on the gas pedal, spam 1,1,1,1,1,1
4/ Hit Stability when you see a red line, dodge roll a few times. Spam 1,1,1,1,1 some more. (Advanced – VoJ every now and again if you can remember to do it)
5/ When you run out of red name-tags, turn round and run back the way you came, spamming loot, loot, loot.
Why? It’s only a few quid.
Probably costs more to buy a pint of beer these days.
What puzzles me is that we’ve been begging for something (anything!) along these lines since day 1.
Despite the frequent admission that it needs ‘looking into’ we get no action. Instead we get useless cosmetic presents, a list of laughable wxp ranks and minor ability upgrades for NPC/siege interaction. Oh, and endless PvE updates (Something about a ‘living story’ or some such.)
For some reason, this aspect seems to give Anet the shakes every time they think about it. It’s apparently so complicated and difficult, with such far reaching consequences that it’s better to do nothing than risk shutting down the entire revenue generating stream.
Eh? Scamming? Sorry but – do you actually know what that word means?
Burning supply for no good reason is perfectly legal – encouraged even. Not my rules, blame Anet. You won’t get anyone banned for it – you may get banned yourself for trying.
(btw – the verb ‘to scam’ refers to trickery, usually a confidence trick of some sort – just in case someone really doesn’t know)
You only just found it? I thought everyone knew.
Agree, people are far more often ignorant than deliberately obstructive. Most of the ‘spy’ complaints are just down to ‘noobs’ (can I say that?) trying out some game mechanic.
I remember spending some time in my first day, repairing a wall at SM just to see how it worked.
But Anet have to take some of the blame – giving wxp for wasting supply, even a daily on the same topic. Keeps are now regularly stuffed full of trebs and arrowcarts placed where they can’t be reasonably used, right by the supply depot.
It just so happens I have an 80 thief, Ele and a Guardian.
Of the 3, the Guardian is WAY more survivable. Not only that, but it can get in close to an enemy zerg and tag dozens of enemies at a time. It makes at least double the number of loot bags.
Right now, we have a 3 way battle in SM Lord’s room, Piken defending with about 50 each side.
The skill lag is so bad that nothing works, you can’t heal, you can’t fight. It’s just completely random who wins this.
I play all maps fairly evenly.
But when I’m looking for pure relaxation, I head over to EB, where there’s a much better chance of a zerg.
Plus – (and it’s a big one), the eb map is MUCH easier to navigate. All the winding ramps and cliff drops are a complete drag, especially the paths around Garrison/Citadel.
It’s not as if anyone owes RoF (the server) anything.
If you don’t like the way WvW goes on RoF then just do what I did and transfer.
I left because quite frankly at that time the ‘Commanders’ were a hopeless bunch of kittens that couldn’t organise the proverbial brewery event. That was a few months ago and I’m VERY happy with my new server.
Yo! Piken!
Doors.
Period.
Seconded.
There’s currently a bug (I think it’s since the last patch), that sometimes allows a TP skill to bypass a gate.
It’s happened to me a couple of times using Hammer #2 on my guardian. It seems a lot of skills can trigger the bug, not just thieves.
Trying to deliberately trigger it is obviously an exploit.
There’s plenty you can do with badges, I just spent about 5k fitting out a new 80.
Are you sure you’re not just a compulsive hoarder?
Simple answer: obviously ACs need to be buffed so that they CAN stop a Golem rush.
Yeah, we’ve been asking for a better command system for months.
Meanwhile, all you can do is follow whoever has a tag up – it’s at least a focus point to gather the zerg.
If the guy turns out to be utterly useless (it happens !) you can just ignore him – you’re no worse off.
The truth is, a zerg is so much more powerful than individual players or small squads doing their own thing that it’s usually worth zerging round the tag no matter how badly commanded.
Arenanet seem to have a ‘vision’ for WvW that’s greatly different from that of the broad consensus of actual players.
Further: they’re forcing the game into that model despite the protests in the forum.
I haven’t heard a single good word said about the AC mega-buff or about the ranking system, or about the latest offering of useless ‘gifts’.
Why are they being so obstinate about it? Is it making more money for them? There must be a reason.
Makes me rofl when some kid has a hissy fit over a video game.
Good luck with RL!
I hope the price stays down – I hate the idea of hordes of PvEers in the JP farming badges for easy gold.
Transvestites to a man. I blame the public school system.
Man with a womb = womb-man → wo’man → woman.
I notice that the word ‘sidekicked’ in the daily has been changed to ’mentored ’too.
No doubt there’s some deep and significant political purpose behind it.
If anybody needs me I’ll be in the cupboard under the stairs wearing my tinfoil hat.
Seriously? Someone might be offended by the word?
I doubt it was changed for that reason. More likely that Anet decided use of the more common word ‘outnumbered’ made more sense.
I think if the truth were told, most people are a little disappointed.
OTOH – it’s free stuff – what did you expect? Of course it’s not going to be worth anything.
Personally, I’d rather Anet didn’t keep doing this and instead concentrated more on core mechanics. There are still things that could be improved in the game and which would improve the quality of life far more than a bunch of useless ‘presents’
