You seem to miss the point of my post.
When I log-in. Every time I log-in. I get the same guild invite pop up.
It’s obviously an automatic spam-message that’s triggered by my log-in.
I have to decline it each and every time, and it pops up again next time I log-in.
I whispered the guild owner asking him to stop it. He apparently couldn’t understand my problem.
It may be a hack, it may be a bug or it could possibly be a feature of the system I don’t know about but it’s annoying as heck and I just want it to stop.
I should imagine the PvP PvE and WvW zones are coded differently at a very low level.
It would be difficult to set up as anything but a WvW server for the JP map.
OTOH, if they just changed it to straight PvE, I think everyone would be delighted (except the gankers of course)
InFact. What would really make me happy would be to move the Grub and the Spirit-of-whatever into the same map as well and get it out of our way.
You can add Eles because they can mistform through a portal while down.
(I must be REALLY evil. I’ve got a Thief, an Ele. and a Norn Guardian)
If it’s any consolation, nowadays I only play the Guardian and I don’t equip the racial – it just ain’t that useful.
According to the Manual, The material of the towers isn’t actually specified.
The terms wood, paper are used by players to indicate some sort of upgrade or none.
The game actually uses the words ‘reinforced’ and ‘fotrified’.
A T1 tower has reinforced doors.
A T2 tower has reinforced walls.
A T3 tower is has fortified walls.
T1, T2 and T3 would all be called wooden I guess. Idk if there’s any agreement between players on the exact meaning.
Anything that gets the JP people out of the WvW queues gets my support.
Every time I log in, I get a spam guild invite from the same guild.
Has anyone any ideas on how to stop this?
Eh, what’s wrong with being a cat?
I like cats.
Any fool tries to herd one gets what he deserves, which is how it should be.
The lesson should be ’Don’t be a fool’
(I never understood the one about the sheep and the goats either)
I’m curious as to exactly how often anyone escorting a Yak is called on to protect it from anything it can’t handle itself. It’s not as if you can’t hire a couple of NPC guards.
A properly specced guardian can defend a yak against nearly any single player and sometimes two or more.
What sort of answer is that? I asked how often a yak is seriously attacked, not how big an escort does it need.
I don’t really want to get into this because it’s off- topic.
But
upgraded tier 3 keep with WP will be defended at all cost. at least on my server.
That’s fair. A WP has strategic value, so it’s worth defending. The fact it has to be t3 in order to have a WP is just by-the-way.
How can you not see why T3 towers are more valuable to defend? :S First of all someone spend gold and time to upgrade them. Secondly the towers can withstand attack longer and hence the zerg can come and defend them in time.
@zerospin: – Just because you pay extra for something doesn’t give it increased value. All towers have equal value in the game. You lose the same income if you lose a t1 or a t3. The gold you spent on it doesn’t affect that.
Your second point there is actually a good reason to defend the t1 tower first. The t3 requires less effort. and can look after itself for a while. Your final point (which I didn’t quote) is just a statement that ‘All towers have equal value in the game.’ which is my point.
This sounds like a competition to invent the most mind numbing PvE experience you can import into a WvW context.
But never mind, it isn’t too boring because you can pass the time ‘talking to friends on teamspeak’
Please stop it! You’re killing me!

(choke!)
I’m curious as to exactly how often anyone escorting a Yak is called on to protect it from anything it can’t handle itself. It’s not as if you can’t hire a couple of NPC guards.
Maybe once or twice in the last 6 months I think I might have given a Yak a bit of a cuddle because it was badly needed. Talk about watching paint dry!
Sometimes they vanish a lot quicker. It depends where you leave it.
Yes, but they’re a MUCH more interesting topic of conversation that another ‘nerf’ thread.
I know it sucks but you are getting owned during that time period so the points earned during that time is valid. The real issue is that during the non-NA time period the keeps and fully upgraded to T3 and siege is placed everywhere so when NA rolls around the defenders have such a massive advantage that it can’t even remotely be called fair.
Of course it’s fair. All you have to do is upgrade everything to T3 yourself before you bed down for the night. What’s the difference?
Well, if you go down that road, you may as well not have loot at all but get paid a ‘salary’ for fighting, say 1 penny a minute.
Or even better, remove the repair costs that everyone objects to instead and while you’re at it, make structure upgrades free too.
Pretty soon, you’ve taken everything out of the game that gives you a reason to play it.
I like having to think about picking up the loot, especially if there’s half the enemy zerg standing on it and I have to think of a way to get in and out clutching it in my hot little hands.
I find it odd that people put more value on a t3 tower, as if the fact that you’ve made it more secure makes it more valuable.
afik, the towers are all worth the same tic-score, regardless of grade. So logically you should defend the weaker structures more carefully.
It’s rather like having half your money in the bank and half under your mattress. Then sitting in the bank-vault with a shotgun while leaving your front door open.
Anyway, that’s off topic.
@OP. Because it’s easier than thinking about it, that’s why. Your last observation was right on the nail.
Jeeez! lighten up people. Anet have said the elites generally are intended to be a bit of candy-floss, not particularly useful, just something to add a bit of individual style to the classes and races. None of them are worth squat compared to a slot-skill .
I don’t hear anyone complaining about the town clothes they were given. (My great hulking Norn Guardian looks utterly stupid in his frilly pyjamas)
Windows 7 has a free movie capture addon that you can download from MS. it’s called Microsoft Silverlight.
It works OK.
Curious hair-splitting there Lokyate.
It’s a completely, utterly frivolous waste of time whatever label you want to put on it.
There’s no excuse for losing your sense of proportion at any point in life except possibly the penultimate moment. Even less so for losing it while playing a game.
@Hule:
That’s nothing to the tens of thousands I’ve got on my WoW account that I haven’t played in over a year and probably never will.

We seem to be getting a lot of this recently. Lord’s particularly, pulled or pushed right out of towers.
On one occasion I found the Lord at Quentin had fallen into the water behind the tower, it had prevented us capping the tower. On another occasion (mentioned by davidcricket above), Our keep Lord somehow got pulled outside the front gate during an attack. We beat off the attack and rezzed him – no harm done. (He re-spawned inside)
I hope this isn’t an exploit.
Lemme see now, shall I use vapour form or shall I lie here and let this guy kill me?
He looks like a nice sort of guy… no, I think I’ll just lay here and die.
And all you need for the Commander badge is a doting parent.
Erm, I worked for my tag, ran cof till my mind was numb, did fractals and all that kitten, I’d appreciate it if you respected those of us that chose to farm/grind our tags for the better of our servers wvw, we didn’t get handouts and farming 100g is a nightmare. So to say all of us are children or getting the money from our parents is a very inaccurate/offensive claim :/ I’m not saying that all commanders farm/work for their tag but don’t bring us all down to the standards of those that do.
I didn’t say everybody with a Commander’s tag got it the easy way, I said it was possible. I don’t know how you read that into my post.
All you need is 100g – that’s roughly £100 sterling or US$150 (last time I looked anyway).
I’ve got a couple of hundred gold stashed away, that I got mostly playing WvW. I’ve got no intention of buying a tag because a) I wouldn’t be good at it and b) I don’t have time for it.
I appreciate those who do have one, that they worked for, who are good at it and who treat the ‘pugs’ like me with respect.
That doesn’t alter the fact that SOME of them are idiots and some of them are just plain nasty.
Yes, you get all sorts of people and all ages in this game. From the best to the worst, oldest to youngest and everything in-between. And all you need for the Commander badge is a doting parent.
Some commanders are good, very good. It just takes a while to figure out which.
But you shouldn’t have logged off. Don’t let somebody else spoil the game for you. There’s nothing they can do to you that won’t get them a ban. In fact, I would probably have put a report in for harassment. Certainly I would have said that much.
lol! a fair fight with a thief? Pull the other one.
A thief has no chance in what might be called a ‘fair’ fight. i.e. not being able to untarget himself and vanish. That’s the design.
By definition a thief can’t and doesn’t fight fair. He’s a mugger, a handbag snatcher. The sort of predator that snatches little children at the school gates. That’s why everyone dances on his corpse if they happen to catch one out.
It’s only a game, thank god! but don’t try to hold yourself up as a paragon of virtuous honour. You’re a slimeball. :P
‘To the victor the spoils’
dead = loser
Do these voting ‘support tokens’ and ‘representation buttons’ have any value or use whatsoever?
In relation to WvW that is.
Or do I just have to throw them away like the rest of this living story stuff?
It is 1600 range. Period.
Plus there’s a long activation time on the transform that gives enemies plenty of time to stun, cripple or imobilise.
Not only that, you need to untarget first, otherwise it does the Elementalist RTL trick of pulling you back into trouble.
That means you can’t use autotargeting any more. All in all, it’s a clumsy elite to use.
What we have here is an L2P issue. If you think it’s so great, roll a Norn and see how useful it is. Then you can figure out a counter.
I guess I’m a pretty average player. I know what I’m doing. I use TS when it’s active. I know what ‘stack’ means and I know how to use my skills.
In the average day, (I start around 7am and fight on and off until maybe 8pm, maybe 3-4 hours in all) I die maybe 20 times.
As for gold – I dunno, probably I make 50 silver on an average day so the repair cost takes about half of that.
If I had a bit more left over, I’d use it on upgrades maybe but right now I’m still trying to build up my bank account after equipping my third lvl 80. It’s slow going.
My objection to repair costs is that it’s just a waste: a gold sink. If I could actually afford to use the gold in some productive way in WvW instead, it would make me happier.
Well that’s settled then. We’ll do that.
Er… did you hear that Anet?…Anet?…Hello?
I don’t know what to make of this.
On one hand, you need a lot of detail to actually pin down a bug. You usually have to try to reliably recreate it over and over so you can isolate the particular mechanism.
On the other, it really doesn’t sound like anyone specifically tried to do that until Hugh accidentally tripped the bug during his coffee-break and realised it wasn’t just a myth.
@Hugh psssst! It doesn’t sound very professional to admit stuff like that to the punters. Next time, say nothing. In fact do nothing – then you can’t be blamed if it all goes wrong.
What is the big deal with paying repair costs 2 or 3 times a week? Big deal.
If you only take a couple of trips to the repair in a week, you can’t be doing much WvW (or are you suggesting you’re that good? [roll-eyes])
Anyway, I side with the OP on this. WvW is a big enough gold sink as it is and the repair costs are out of proportion to other aspects of the game.
A WvW player expects to die far more often than a PvE player. It’s only by being utterly careless that you get killed in PvE. Enemies don’t lay traps and lie in wait or suddenly leap on top of you by the dozens.
So yes – but it won’t happen.
Not sure, but I think you need badges to get one of these Legendary thingies that the PvE crowd are so keen on. Was he on his way to the JP?
OTOH – it might be he couldn’t think of the right word and used badge meaning the map completion achievement.
Probably he was a PvEer and couldn’t fight. We get a lot of them QQing in the forum about having to get WvW map completion.
This is what prayers would sound like if God actually answered occasionally.
Lots of possible causes for skill lag.
Most usual is heavy server load caused by large numbers of players. But it can also happen if you get a slow internet connection.
If your commands take a long time to get to the server and/or the responses are slowed, the client will try to keep the movement animations going. Particle effects and suchlike will still display, even the framerate will stay high but the critical fight action will have to wait until the news arrives.
Result, rubber-banding, opponent teleporting about. no response to skill buttons. = skill-lag
Top WvW or GvG …they are two different beasts.
This^^
GvG is just a PvP deathmatch played out on the WvW map. It has nothing to do with WvW except the permitted use of a patch of real estate.
The contribution of particular guilds to the WvW server rank isn’t measured in any objective way at the moment.
Look, you bought a game to play. It only cost a few quid and you’ve already had hours of fun playing it.
I’ve had dinners that were more expensive.
If you think you can do better you’re welcome to hire a few programmers and build one yourself. Then you can have it just exactly how you want.
No. I said ‘The battle is largely over who holds the keeps and a few strategic towers’.
Choke points in a map give a server control of larger regions, which contain other towers and camps.
Quentin is a good example. When blue holds it, it’s very difficult for green to move troops into the Eastern section of the map and if they do, blue has little difficulty in clearing them out again.
Good Commanders know that it isn’t enough to look at a camp or tower that’s ‘the wrong colour’ and just try to take it without considering it’s value strategically.

I’m not going to argue with people who simply hold an opinion and refuse to let go.
Especially those who quote me out of context.
If you really want to know the truth about camera hacks you have to dig a little deeper. It’s up to you.
^^ In the sense that a door-key inside the house when you’re locked out isn’t useless.
Niim is right. For siege-jockeys the abilities are wondrous. For the rest of us – they’re useless until you can max out DaG.
Yeah, the “zoom hack” or “windowed mode hack” is not actually a hacking. I really wish people would stop using that word to describe every exploit, glitch, or issue. :T
Whoa! That’s not right.
Lets be clear. There are two things that get confused:-
1/ ‘Windowed mode’ (or in my case triple screen Eyefinity) allows you to change the aspect ratio to give a wide ‘panoramic’ view. It doesn’t work quite so well as you might expect because of a distortion problem (but that’s another issue)
2/ ‘Zoom hack’. This is a third-party add-on to the client ( a true hack) that allows the normal view to be zoomed out beyond normal limits. When used vertically, you get a bird’s eye view of towers, keeps etc and can see over walls clearly.
- doesn’t allow you to see any more than you might see by simply turning around (panning). It offers no advantage.
- is an exploit that makes it possible to target enemies that can’t fight back.
You have to Read the Manual…Oh, wait…
Many players don’t seem to want to fight otherwise except for other seasoned roamers/duelists.
Wow! What’s your hat size? Just curious. Let me guess, you play thief?
I’m sorry to say it but Devon really went down in my estimation when he confessed to enjoying sitting in a tower with an arrowcart.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/devon-carver-on-the-future-of-world-vs-world/
‘Holding a tower against all odds with some smart siege placement and a bit of luck may be one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in a video game.’
Suddenly it all made a horrible sense.
There are sentries for solo, camps should need more people to flip than one.
I don’t see why. It takes time. If the defenders can’t be bothered to intervene, that’s their problem.
It’s no different from leaving a tower undefended. (That can be solo’d too)
They have said they’re looking at making the rewards in WvW on par with PvE, including the achievement thingies… but it would be nice to hear something a little more about this as a whole. I’ve been known to spend a few moments of my time every now and then in WvW and wouldn’t mind at all that time having the same “value” (for want of a better word) as time spent in PvE with regards to achievement points.
This is the real point here. Anet keep saying they want to encourage people into WvW. That’s why they’ve given us these nonsense ranks and titles. (They mean nothing to us real pro’s yes?)
But it’s not going to work while ever the reward for taking part is seen as less desirable. It’s actually seen as more ‘profitable’ to grind PvE monsters in Orr. (rofl!)
Don’t add venom to my post where none was intended please. I still enjoy the hell out of WvW regardless of the other rewards. I’m only saying it would be a nice touch to bring the AP rewards for avid WvW folks on par with the others, that’s all. Either way, I’ll be in WvW and loving it. The wxp, by the way, I think that’s a really nice feature that adds a lot to the experience. Maybe achievement points could be tied to WvW levels? That would help some I believe…
Not a clue what you’re objecting to. My opinions are my own. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with you. I quoted you as a self-confessed WvW dilettante. (Now THAT’S venom :P)
It get’s worse, for some people it’s already tomorrow while others are still stuck in yesterday.
Maybe everyone should get a buff based on their local time? So if I play at 3am local, I get to be some sort of battlefield god, twenty feet tall and possessed of the strength of a dozen kittens.
(So?…I like kittens)
No one should be able to solo a supply camp.
May the kittenstorm begin.
It’s not too difficult for any class. All you have to do is kite the silly kittens around the camp while you smack the Supervisor’s botty. For thieves it’s even easier.
The only way to prevent it would be to buff the camps up a lot. Come to think about it that might not be a bad idea – they are way too easy anyway.
But, it’s been said. There’s lots of PvE out there if that’s your bag. Let’s not add to it.
