necro and unashamed bump
Guys, guys, isn’t this obvious? The champion at the keep is waaay weaker than a risen priest. And since Anet thinks lords are the only form of defense, 5 seems to be appropriate.
I think this was intended slightly sarcastic?
I suspect it’s close to truth. The loot tables for the various NPC’s are probably locked to the same parameter that determines their relative difficulty.
Well, there’s your hour or two already gone.
Might as well go see what’s making that weird scrabbling noise behind the fridge…
No.
The guards are PvE – they are only there to make the place look busy when no-one’s about.
I say get rid of them, all of them – if a server can’t be bothered to defend it’s camps, choke points and towers properly they deserve to lose.
I gotta agree with the OP.
Basically the doors and walls are two weak. So it’s possible for a big zerg to crack the doors open without siege weapons.
The result is, it’s no big deal to lose or take a tower, it will change hands again in a few minutes.
For the same reason, there’s little incentive to starve a position of supply – it might make a difference in the long run, but if there isn’t going to be a long run, why bother?
I say buff the towers by a factor of at least 10.
I don’t know if you noticed. Gems are bought with real-life cash. Once that real-life currency has been converted into game currency, you can’t convert it back to cash.
All you can do is to convert it from one game token currency to another.
The gold/gems price is actually the game-value of gold in real-life currency – since it’s essentially valueless it’s price will continue to drop towards reality (zero) through the life of the game.
There will be fluctuations of course, the price may even rise short-term – but the general trend will continue downwards.
On the day that the last player quits and Anet shut down the servers, it will have reached it’s true price – all the gold in the system won’t be worth 1 gem.
By level 80 you should have easily enough gold to buy exotics.
OK – if you haven’t, then use karma. The Orr temple vendors sell PvE karma gear for lvl80.
Or you can get WvW gear from the vendors in the Borderlands. Can’t remember if it’s badges/karkma/gold – there’s a choice of currency involving all 3. Take your pick.
If you need karma or badges, your best bet is to join the karma train in WvW.
Oh! btw – NEVER pay the gold asking price for stuff on the TP – you can always get it cheaper if you haggle. (a LOT cheaper)
Threads like this should be deleted immediately by the mods.
If it isn’t specifically forbidden in the ToS, it should be.
If you play WvW the answer is Norn.
The racial is OP.
Keep looking.
Music?
Oh you mean the musak? It’s like having tinnitus.
First thing I did with this game was to search for how to turn the kitten ed noise off.
Now if I could only find out how to turn down the overcooked particle effects it would be wonderful.
If you’ve got all night and an empty server – probably.
Go in through a wall in preference to a door. The stupid guards respawn really fast but they stand out front and ignore you pounding on the wall.
I’ve tried it a couple of times but others always showed up to help or chase me off.
tbh you’re going to be changing gear so often as you level that it really isn’t worth agonising over and it’s probably a waste of gold to keep sigils optimised.
They don’t add a great deal.
I think piken is the server with the lowest 1on1 player.
Who is he? Do tell!
Not much of a sentry if a laden pack-cow can just stroll by on it’s way to supply the enemy.
All you need to do is clear the points whenever you reset your traits at the ‘trainer’.
Simple as that.
It’s not open to abuse. Anyone who wants to do it has to leave WvW and get back again – that’s enough of a disincentive.
There seems to be some sort of technical problem, probably something to do with the way they’ve stored the data, that makes it difficult or impossible for them to do this without wiping a whole section of the database.
If so, that’s really bad news.
For me, this is the big ‘jam tomorrow’ topic.
It’s the one thing in the game that makes it almost impossible to organise the play.
It’s clear that Anet want to ‘redesign the concept’ and present the players with a custom built system designed to function along particular lines and according to a given model of warfare.
Well, that’s very nice – but it isn’t necessary, probably won’t work as expected and above all it’s too kitten slow!
Why not give us what we ask for? There’s a fairly broad consensus that a few simple changes would go a long way to creating a usable interface, one we could take and run with. Just a choice of colours would be a good start.
My point is that all the great games, like football, rugby, cricket weren’t ‘designed’. They grew out of the common desire of the players to make a fun game to play, with ad-hoc rules inserted and dropped as fancy took it.
Something that bugs me.
Once you’ve visited every poi, vista and whatnot in the world it would be nice not to have to do it all over again with every alt I make.
I appreciate that you get XP for the ‘discoveries’ but not being able to even see parts of the map or use WPs on an alt is a pain. Especially if your alt is already lvl 80 and you simply don’t need the XP.
I would like the opportunity to simply ‘unlock’ the map on any alt where I select the title ‘Been there done that’ – simple as that.
You can’t reset WAPs because it would require someone to design an interface mechanic for it.
That would take a developer away from more important tasks.
I mean, we could have something like that, but it would mean having to spare someone from the kite-and-balloon development department. Perhaps for several minutes…
It’s just unthinkable.
There is more than enough content in this game to level a character to 80 and still have only done less than half of it.
The hearts are only there to get people started who’re used to the ‘quest’ mechanic from other MMOs and need something to get started.
The dynamic events are key.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/68031-gw2-1-80-dynamic-events-mostly/
You can also level through WvW.
I hate it when people call game-tokens ‘money’.
It hasn’t even got ‘Bank of Toytown’ printed on it.
I’m not sure how to take the idea of people begging for it. I mean. that’s a new low even for humanity.
Calculus?! You can prove anything using calculus.
Even string theory.
Close call. Mesmer or thief.
Probably mesmer because I know how to take down a thief.
All of mine are account bound
Hmmmm. I got a bit fed-up of watching that cute little toddler-tumble it does at every jump.
I mean, it seriously lacks dignity man!
You mean I can actually SELL the kittening useless things?!
Some kitten days the kitten adult kitten filter kittens my kittening kitten until no kitten can kittening read kitten.
Warrior, Guardian, D/D Elementalist, Thief (sort of) can all get in close and do damage.
Warrior is the most straightforward in-your-face profession.
If there was one class that was ‘best’ we’d all be playing it
Quietly backs out of the padded cell, closing the door softly behind him…
I’m in a mid-tier server.
We don’t have any problems at all.
Who’d a thought it?
I many ways, GW2 is a lot better than WoW. You’re not competing for resources so people are a lot more helpful and friendly to each other. Plus, you won’t get ‘ganked’.
But in answer to your question – anything! It’s all good.
The Norn and Charr starter zones are a little harder than the others and the Sylvari zone is a bit overgrown but since you can use whatever zones you please with any race, it really doesn’t matter. Race generally has no effect on anything except a few little-used ‘racial elite’ skills.
What profession? Oooh now you’ve got me. What do you like. Melee? Ranged? Pain-in-the-Kitten? Sneaky-kitten? Take your pick.
As said race isnt it.
Ele is very squishy and difficult to master, bad combo.
I couldnt get the hang of Attunement swapping and gave up on my Ele (wich is lvl55 btw)
Played ele up to 80 and continued in WvW up to about rank 100.
D/D isn’t at all ‘squishy’ if you build it right. Staff is a ranged dps so doesn’t need much toughness anyway.
It’s an exciting, fast playing class with a lot of tricks up it’s sleeve. It has so many skills available that you always have something unexpected to throw at other players.
Oh, and it has the most devastating mass extinction AoE burst in the game, Churning Earth.
I love it when someone comes up with a fairly arbitrary number and specifies it to umpteen decimal places.
Unbind the two turn buttons for a start. You should never use them, always turn with the mouse.
I have dodge on the mouse middle button – having said that, I use a Razer Naga with thumb buttons and I bind the strafe and fwd keys to the thumb pad too. With all movement keys on the dominant hand (mouse) I have finer control over movement and my keyboard is completely free for skills.
Skills are 1,2,3,4,5,6,q,w,e,r.
Autorun is on t.
I also repeat-bind a second dodge to ‘v’ so that I can hit dodge and jump (spacebar) together with my thumb. (Jump/dodge is a useful trick to learn.)
With this setup I don’t have to move my hand on the keyboard at all so I don’t have positioning issues and can play without taking my eyes of the screen.
None of this is Gospel of course – just for hints.
There’s little significant difference between exotic and ascended gear. It’s mostly cosmetic with minor stat increases.
If you must have a complete set of ascended gear and a Legendary or two – then yes, it will take forever.
If you just want to play the came competitively and don’t care about the ‘shiny things’, you’ll be fine.
It’s not like WoW, where you absolutely need the top tier gear in order to function.
Oh my giddy aunt! Essence of Luck!
Be careful how you say it.
Is there any way to ‘turn off’ WXP gain?
I’ve spent months working toward my ‘Legend’ title and now after just a few days at the top of the food chain I’m about to lose it and become a ‘Bronze Noob’ or whatever the kittening title is.
I don’t want to.
Seriously? This is a problem for you?
Perhaps you should stick to PvE.
Er….You’re not on MY server are you?
Beats me why people keep spamming about thieves being good in a zerg.
I’ve also got a thief (lvl80 – my first 80 in fact). It’s kitten useless in a zerg.
Lag is the glass ceiling that sits on top of all internet comms.
There’s a limit to the speed you can send and process data, no matter what you do or how much you spend.
As soon as we get a technical improvement it gets swallowed by the demand for more players, bigger maps, finer detail, more impressive textures and animations etc. etc.
I’m pretty amazed at what Anet have achieved with GW2. No complaints here.
Guardian.
I play both Ele and Guardian. Can’t speak for Warrior really.
Staff ele has the tagging ability but is fragile and boring to play if you like to get into the action.
Guardian is tanky, has good survivability in a zerg and lots of tagging ability. It usually gets first crack at the enemies, spearheading the attack. Both ele and guardian are poor solo classes, expect to die a lot trying to join the main zerg.
Can’t say anything for guardian, but imo ele is really good in 1v1. But you need to switch to d/d. Staff is pretty bad for solo roaming.
Absolutely correct – d/d is crazy fun and can pwn 1v1 but it’s poor in terms of tagging for zerg-loot, it’s single target really. Staff is great for loot but vulnerable to gankers.
Guardian has similar problems: sword/focus and greatsword is a good single target combo but for zergs you need to go staff (with hammer or gs).
It’s a pity we don’t have a functioning second set of gear swap for travelling/solo instead of those poxy ‘town clothes’
OTOH a new PSU is not expensive and is easy to fit.
OCZ 850W ZX Series was £142 last time I looked
Anet should start a new profession, panhandler.
Equipped with dual begging-bowl and exotic armour set, ‘filthy rags’.
The class mechanic would be ‘spam-chat’ with requests for gold on all channels.
Not enough to be worth worrying about.
Or, you can go into WvW. (That’s a tab on the top menu bar too)
Whichever battleground you join, there will be a gate to Lion’s Arch nearby.
The point of the game is to have fun.
If you just do that and forget about the gold, you’ll find your wallet stuffs itself.
Guardian is far from squishy. You must be wearing really bad gear. Probably you went berserker? Glass-canon won’t work in WvW, especially for a guardian – your role is support – not direct killing.
The correct gear is PVT – you can buy it from the vendors in the bg.
If you’ve played WoW, welcome to a much more pleasant social atmosphere.
