Hey Anet, I’ll give you £50 or the equivalent in gems for a permanent priority queue ticket into WvW.
Or if you won’t go for that how about a one-use insta-queue-pop consumable selling on the gem store at say, 500gems?
Anybody care to up the offer?
Nope, you’re missing nothing particularly interesting. But you shouldn’t think of it as ‘levelling-up’. You should be having fun, looking for adventure, that sort of thing.
Try all the different parts of the game – especially WvW.
I’ve got 4 printed maps on my desk.
Every time somebody says something like ‘Golems at Woodhaven’ I start scrabbling through them like mad.
I’ve been playing nearly a year and I still can’t remember them. (I can’t even remember which map I’m on most of the time )
I’m hoping they finally do something intelligent and swap it with outmanned buff like they should have done all along.
Actually that is pretty dumb. No one will go put effort into ruins for an outmanned buff, I feel unmotivated now and the buffs are worth having.
I think you kinda misunderstood.
He means the buf should be applied when you are outmanned. The ruins having nothing to do with it. The capture points can be removed.
Probably my biggest gripe with the game.
You can make it a little bit more visible by activating mouse trails in Windows. It carries over to GW2 – not very well – but a bit.
Other than that, turning off fast cast ground targeting means you get the target circle graticule on ground skills. It’s clumsy having to click twice but it’s better than losing the cursor and not being able to target at all.
Irrelevant.
Or occasionally – ‘Could a couple of people just go and get bloodlust on this bl?’
Sounds like you want a warrior. I haven’t played one but they have famously high mobility and range (rifle). They are considered OP in WvW.
D/D Elementalist is a melee character – massively fun to play IMO but probably not what you are looking for. Staff Ele is ranged (not very) but has slow attacks.
Mesmer is highly mobile in combat and is an excellent ‘kiting’ class but paradoxically it’s out-of-combat speed is pathetically slow.
It’s really difficult (read impossible) to tell if there’s a problem with your installation of the game so the only thing you can do is to clean it.
This involves deleting your .dat file and running with the ‘-repair’ command. This will re-install the game with a clean copy and probably take a couple of hours or more. Look for instructions in the technical forum.
This is something I would actually BUY from the gem store.
People online behave differently than in general society. They tend to be aggressive and selfish (much like when driving a car). Plus, some people are just plain nasty to start with and anonymity gives the the freedom to have fun.
I don’t do PvE, especially dungeons, because of the attitude you’ve described. For some reason beating the fake treasure means so much to people they will do anything to grab it as fast as possible and they don’t care who gets in the way.
Paradoxically. I find WvW to be far more sociable – especially using TeamSpeak where we can actually talk together.
That said, you have to remember ‘sticks and stones’ – they can’t actually hurt you and ultimately it’s up to you to not feel bad about what someone says to you. (It’s something I had to work at all my life too.)
So why can I strafe faster going right and I backpedal trying to strafe left? it makes no sense. They should both be the same speed.
You don’t, strafing left and right are the same speed, they’re just mirrored character animations…
I’ve noticed that the animations sometimes look odd actually.
It doesn’t bother me but sometimes the character seems to run diagonally backwards, other times forwards. (I don’t have the ‘backpedal’ key bound either so it’s not that.)
You say ‘trying to sell’ the gear you don’t need?
You should be able to sell most of it it with no problem at all on the TP.
A simple rule I use is – if it’s green or it’s salvagable sell it on TP at ‘match lowest seller’ (the stuff is desirable and you can usually sell it at a good price)
If it’s blue or white – check the offered price on the TP. if it’s more than a vendor will give you (that’s the price shown when you hover over it in your inventory), sell it. If not vendor it (obviously).
Junk items – vendor them.
There’s no point saving crafting materials or salvaging – just sell everything at the best price you can get – you can always buy it back (probably cheaper) some other time.
Now, as to your own gear. Simple, you use the cash you just got from the TP to buy the gear you need. You can save some gold by checking those completed heart NPCs to see if they have anything you can use.
Also, IMPORTANT in the WvW start areas, you can find karma gear vendors who will sell you gear for WvW that is also usable in the rest of the world (NB not the sPvP ‘Heart of the Mist’ vendors). It’s good and it’s cheap. Also, if you dare to WvW – thats a good way to make a lot of karma. Just look for the commander and stick to him.
General elementalist advice – get to know your attunements. Don’t try to stick in fire or air etc. you need to keep swapping them constantly to get the best out of the cooldowns and maximise your damage output and defence. Start in air (best travelling attunement) go to fire to do more damage then go to water for defence, maybe earth then, but you probably won’t need it. Then back to air or fire for more damage.
This might help:-

5 hours of PvE is not going to kill you.
What the kitten sort of attitude is that?
You want to [insert pleasant activity]?
You just need to spend 5 hours cleaning the toilet first. It won’t kill you!
I haven’t quit playing but I’m ignoring ascended stuff. If I get it as a drop ok, otherwise, meh. Not getting on that hamster wheel.
This^^
If Ascended gear becomes an issue for me and I can’t get it by normal play (i.e. fighting in WvW) – then I’ll just quit. There are other games.
It doesn’t work too well.
It messkittens withkittens alkittenmost anykitten you write.
Ah!
That explains why I suddenly started getting double chests again. Better go and do a bit of logging then, I have more toons in storage.
I’ve played Thief, Mesmer, Ele and Guardian.
Conclusions: (mine):-
Thief is no use at all in group play. I don’t like sneaking round trying to gank people -it’s boring as hades. Might be useful for spying but you’ll get no loot.
Elementalist – d/d is fun but the big demand is for staff Ele. support – which is dull and uses a lot of clumsy ground targeting.
Guardian – If you like loot – go for it. It feels real good to wade into a zerg knowing you can’t be harmed and slaughter the lot.
OTOH – on your own, you’re clumsy and vulnerable – worst class ever to attempt a 1v1.
Mesmer – my current favourite. It’s fun to confuse enemies so that they run around trying to find you while your illusions kill them. Good at 1v1, deadly in a small group.
Can be viable in a big fight because of it’s evasion and escape abilities. Poor loot though, it’s got no AoE.
It’s only a utility to guardians and warriors if you let them tell you what to do – simple answer, just don’t.
Well if you like to win at WvW but you’re not very good at it – SFR will suit you.
Y , we have a D/D Elementalist commander I’ve never seen downed.
The WvW vendors will sell you exotic gear of whatever spec your heart desires for a small amount of gold and some badges of honour. (look for the Armor Master in Citadel)
There is a karma vendor selling lower level gear up to ‘rare’
The Temple vendors in Orr sell decent exotic armour if you have no badges. (And if they’re open – good luck with that!)
Beware – runes and sigils can be expensive and once soulbound to karma gear, you can virtually kiss your gold goodbye – it’s not salvagable.
EDIT: PS. If you’re interested in WvW, you’re gonna kick yourself once you realise how easy it is to level through WvW and that you could have already geared up with the badges you would have made while just having fun.

I
I see absolutely no reason why some few trolls- and they know very well who they are, should make the experience of everyone else miserable.
That’s the reason – right there. They ‘get off’ on other people’s discomfort.
The correct treatment is ’Don’t feed the Troll’. (This thread of course is a banquet.)
There are virtually no bots or gold sellers in GW2. The Trading House works across all servers so there’s no difference there.
The only thing you might want to think about is the PvE/PvP orientation of the server.
You might find this site useful if you want to PvP (WvW) http://mos.millenium.org/
Seriously, why salvage them? Just sell them on the TP and buy the materials you want. I can guarantee you’ll find it more profitable (tip: haggle)
Poooh! Nothing wrong with Ele.
It’s a bit more complicated to play properly than others but that just makes it more interesting.
Here’s a guide that will help you understand the subtleties of the class.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Mastering-the-D-D-ele-7-15-13/first
It’s mainly for D/D Ele but the general comments apply to all Elementalist styles.
Rune of the Traveller is pretty well mandatory for some classes in WvW. That’s why it’s so very desirable, hence expensive.
(Rune of Speed is supposed to do the same job but it’s broken)
You said yourself, you’re new to the game.
It’s a very deep and complicated game and it takes a long while to get to really understand the play-style of a profession. I’ve got 4 level 80s all at high rank in WvW and I’m still learning.
There isn’t a lot of difference in base stats between professions and it can be made up by choice of gear. You can make a very tough thief with no DPS or a squishy one with lots. You can also make a moderately squishy one with not-very-good DPS.
No one profession has more damage than another or more healing or more defence, it all depends on how you set the gear and traits for each. You constantly have to trade one for another until you find a build that fits your individual style.
You need to pick a profession based on HOW you want to play and take it from there.
You like sneaking around on your own, waiting to gank an unwary or damaged opponent? Then you’re a thief.
You like to jump in and lay waste to a slew of enemies with a greatsword and die valiantly on a pile of dead foes? Warrior.
You want to stand like a rock knee deep in loot bags, unharmed while your allies slaughter the opposition using powers granted by you? Guardian.
Confuse your foes, bewilder them until they fall on their own swords and die not knowing why? Mesmer.
It’s weird when you think about it. Anet are sitting on a potential gold-mine for Gem Store items yet they do nothing about it. They just offer a few miniatures and dyes with a sprinkling of ‘fun’ items like boxing gloves and a couple of hats.
There’s a cook’s outfit – doesn’t even LOOK like a cook (where’s the chef’s hat?).
I don’t see how you can’t get past 20-25 gold in this game. I have never played the TP, never converted gems to gold, have weaponsmith to 500, artificer and huntsman to 425 and have all my chars decked and I have in excess of 340 gold. I have been playing since February and I only play a couple hours a night 4-5 days a week.
Unless you are a WvW player only, you should have tons of gold if you aren’t spending it. It isn’t something that will fall into your lap, but it’s very easy to farm a champ train or run dungeons. The best time to have accumulated wealth would have been during the farming events in August and September (the invasions and the event before it).
I would run world boss event and dungeons. Doesn’t take that long to add up.
This^^.
I am a WvW player, I do no dungeons or farming, never play the TP, never buy gold with gems and and I’ve still got 300+ gold.
The only way you can possibly be short of the stuff is if you waste it on stuff like Legendaries.
Oh, wait….
Seriously. They are just a kitten nuisance.
The giant grub and the spirit-of-whatever are both way to strong and it takes far too long to kill them. Every time one of these pops near a battle the WvW fighting has to stop while it’s cleared out of the way.
The Wurm is fine – just about right as an amusing distraction for a few seconds and a nice little reward for nothing.
All players are to be awarded 5 stacks of Piles of Bloodstone Dust as compensation for loss of siege equipment during the recent technical difficulties.
There now. That better?
So much for WXP being a character progression system, here buy your way to mastery.
2 days of dailies for one level of WXP, yeah you can totally buy your way up. I guess we need more WvW players who are afraid of PvEers with thier bought-rank, surely with the guard leech that they save 4-5 months for will now be very formidable.
Well, that’s true. The next patch will be to ‘increase the WXP available from laurel vendors from 5,000 to 500,00 per laurel’ because it’s obviously too low and doesn’t properly reflect the time investment.
Thin end of a wedge. Once people can buy WvW superiority through PvE, whatever the cost, there will be pressure to make it easier for them. Look at badges of honour and the JP.
Soooo…, a PvE virgin, with no experience of WvW can do a few JPs and a monthly/daily or two and buy himself any WvW rank he can afford?
Why not – the Commander badge only costs 100g.
We had a similar system in the British army one time.
Yes, it is. The human eye has 3 types of colour sensor. red, green and blue. The pure colours of the 3 types of screen colour emitters are designed to match those as closely as possible.
You are probably confusing the common use of primary colours by artist and printers who tend to use the term when discussing pigments. They identify a number of systems including cyan, magenta, yellow. (e.g. Printing inks.).
For those ‘primary’ systems the mechanism is light absorption/reflection rather than pure emission and the spectral result is often quiet complicated instead of being a pure ‘spectral’ colour.
Keep SM – add a karma merchant selling Legendaries.
2,500,00 karma + 3,000 Badges of honour + 150 WXP ranks.
Should be about right
It isn’t a ‘legit question’.
To me, Red and green are nothing like each other. OTOH shades of blue and green have always been a bit difficult to tell apart. Eyes differ from person to person and being colour-blind isn’t a yes/no matter.
The colours on a CRT or LED screen are a manufactured standard Red, Blue, Green to match the spectral response of a ‘normal’ human eye. That makes the three primaries the most clearly distinguishable colours for most people.
Using a different set to accommodate people with a disability would be like removing all stairs everywhere and replacing them with wheelchair ramps.
If someone has a disability that’s tough but it’s no reason why everyone else should have to share in it.
Probably they’ll decide to scratch the matchup and make us repeat it.
I’m going to give this a try – anyone suggest a ‘cool’ set of clothes?
EDIT:
Doesn’t work.
Recipient cahracter can’t take the item out of the bank to transmute it because it’s ‘soulbound to another character’
If you try to do it using the other (donor) character instead, you get a ‘Transmuting an item makes it soulbound’ message and can’t transmute anyway because the items are not of the same rarity/type
(edited by Contiguous.1345)
Lol, I’ve thrown away more stacks of the stuff than I could count!
Anet clearly thought it would be amusing to drown WvW players in a vat of useless, account-bound T7 materials after we were always complaining about poor loot.
I haven’t tried it but Astral ^^ is probably right about transmutation. I’ve done similar tricks on soulbound stuff.
(I wonder if I can find a ‘nice’ set of town clothes for my characters that way?)
This from a WvW perspective (I don’t do the PvE thing) my own experience of 4 different classes at lvl80:-
1/ Thief needs skill and a lot of practice to play well. It’s not really suitable as a first character. It’s a ‘loner’ class designed for 1v1 ganking or 1vX trolling.- not much else.
2/ Ele is also a skill-based character – it’s difficult to juggle so many skill cool-downs at once. D/D is fun melee but Staff is more in demand for it’s combo. fields.
3/ Guardian is basically a melee support class. It’s hopeless in a 1v1 situation because it has no range but in a zerg it becomes king of the heap. It can stand against multiple enemies by buffing it’s allies and can pile into the front of the enemy zerg like a tank. It is able to tag lots of enemies at once so you get a LOT of loot playing guardian.
4/Mesmer – Great fun to play. Confusing the heck out of enemies with multiple clones and illusions, good ranged attack and close-up defence. Doesn’t need a huge amount of skill to get results. Frustratingly slow movement, often found trailing at the back struggling to catch up with the other players. Not much loot because it’s not got much offensive AoE and is always last to get to the Lord’s room.
WvW vendors provide perfectly good PvP gear for karma (for low level characters like yours). This is the Invader set and the nerest vendor is in your borderland’s Citadel at the end of the hall opposite the Asura gates.
These need to be upgraded every 5 levels. You will be offered the right gear automatically but you MUST keep it up-to-date because the up-scaling depends on it.
There are also high-level vendors offering exotic gear in a variety of stats. for honour and gold.
You will also need trinkets, runes and sigils appropriate to your level.
Don’t wait till you are 80 – jump right in. Your gear and stats (if current) will be upgraded to 80 to make you competitive and providing you stay with the zerg until you feel confident, you will be fine.
You will earn vast amounts of karma which will be more than enough to feed your gear progression.
What’s it for?
As far as I can see, you put 4 items in and get 1 of the same rarity out without fail.
It lets you turn 4 soulbound items (or 3 with a lump of rock) into 1 tradable item but that seems to be the only use.
The matchups are far from random. I expected this to level out as the rating system kicked in but it just seems to get worse.
This week we’re just completely dominating two servers that frankly haven’t a hope in hades. (EU)
Worse, the bandwagon effect has caused a huge influx of players, plus all out PvE players have decided that if we’re winning it must be safe to join the zerg.
Result: we have a HUGE zerg running round doing totally brainless stuff like dropping siege at random and chasing after solo players, just winning points by sheer force of numbers.
So it’s not fun whichever side you’re on.
Well, I don’t usually do PvE but I heard about all these shiny things you can get by killing pretend dragons so I thought I’d give it a go.
What a colossal bore! Hang around in an overflow for half-an-hour then spend another half-hour being knocked down at random, trying to get close enough to something to actually hit it until you apparently run out of time.
Beats me why anyone would bother.
Well, ain’t nobody else can tell you how to have fun.
Me? I’d forget about the Legendary. It’s just a grind either way. Some people like grinding, I don’t.
So I’d be left with trying to roam in WvW without getting nervous and pressing the wrong button. It’ll cost gold in repairs, but not as much as a Legendary.
I’ve played Thief, Ele , Guardian and Mesmer in that order.
Funny thing is, I enjoyed each more than the last – I think I’m just getting better, which makes it more fun.
Might go back to the thief sometime and see if I can’t play it properly.
You want somebody to TELL you how to have fun?
Sounds like a teenager.
There’s a toggle in the options. you probably hit it by accident.
