Omnomberry Ghost is a food I often have used in WvW. It makes you ghostlike for a short while, with a trail of fog. It’s been around for quite a while.
The effect slowly fades away over about 5 minutes.
I think if you stop the patcher and move over your current dat file into the testing folder it might patch the difference.
Don’t know if it will work but if it does it should save a lot of time.
OTOH it could completely screw up and mean you’d have to do it all over again.
I’ll stick with what we’ve been told to do.
Meh. If Anet make it possible to just play and still get the reward – fine. But they won’t of course.
Some people claim to have done the achies ‘passively’. i.e. just in the normal course of play – I call foul. There’s no way anyone could have got the mercenary one’s without deliberately grinding them. Simply being in EB instead of a borderland is grind to most regular players.
Alternative would be to have done the JPs – enough said.
I shamefully admit to have ground out those necessary tasks, all of them except the JPs. I tried not to waste supply or make unnecessary siege or rush ahead of everyone else to try to get to the dolly first but it was hard and sometimes I felt guilty that I wasn’t doing something more useful than waiting around for the Hyleks to pop.
I’m glad it’s over.
I will say it again although peeps usually don’t seem to agree with me. My main was a thief but I recently switched to engi cus its more fun to play. What I felt was brokenly op about theif was shadow refuge. Almost every single thief in the entire game uses this utility. It is a 90+ percent chance get out of jail free card every minute. I don’t understand why other people can’t come to the same conclusion that if almost every single player that has ever played thief uses this one utility there is a problem with it. Other utilities from other classes are popular yes but I have never ran into a single thief ever that doesn’t use shadow refuge. Its op fix it.
I just out and out LOVE it when a thief goes into Shadow Refuge. That’s his most vulnerable moment and if he’s anywhere near me, he’s dead.
No, quite serious. The psychological effect is quite real, people simply can’t help but flinch away.
OTOH. with Asura, people are apt to die laughing – literally.
If you want your enemy to think twice about attacking you, play Norn. It will not work often, but it does have a mental impact on some.
I wish I had a copper penny for every time someone has run away from my big, scary, brightly coloured, support-build Norn.
I find wading into a zerg swinging my scintillating hammer usually opens a path for the real damage coming behind me.
Swarley – this is his first-and-only post. Either a second (troll) account or a complete beginner.
I think you stand under me if you don’t understand me
P.S.: If you want to campare – write me ingame for a 1vs1 – saob.
/ignore
The Norn race can stealth with the snow leopard elite skill. I’ve been noticing speed hack use more these days though.
Norn racial also offers a 4 second ‘dash’ at about 400% speed. It’s a very nice escape IF you remember to clear your target and don’t mind hitting trees at 200mph.
Of course it doesn’t make a big difference. It just gives you an edge.
Sometimes an edge is all you need.
Yeah.
It’s not just the warbanner – it’s the fact that warriors can stroll into the middle of the fight, plant a banner and stroll out again.
Not necessarily a bot. A human player only has to perform a series of repetitive actions to perma-stealth and some people are amazingly patient (if that’s the word)
It helps if you have a good spot to do it – so he probably went back to the same place because it suited him.
IDK – all I can say is what I just saw.
I know you used to be able to set auto-heal and that was fixed. But afaik, it’s still possible to run in a circle or into a wall endlessly.
Oh yess indeedie it does!
Mouse-selecting a target becomes much harder if you can’t hit the box. Even if it’s the same size for all characters, it’s more difficult to select small characters in a melee. That’s why some people use shape-transforms occasionally.
And for mesmers, choice of armour colour is important to make your phantasms more believable.
To be fair, I think maybe we’ve all done this occasionally, maybe for a few minutes while we answer a doorbell or something equally urgent. So it’s not high on my list of crimes
BUT. Right now, we’re all having problems with queues and it’s become an issue.
I just queued for 30 mins and when I got in there was this guy running into a corner of the spawn. That annoyed me a little bit.
But when I passed through again 15-20 minutes later, he was still there!
As queues have got longer, this sort of thing has been happening more and more frequently because people know that if they log out they may have to queue to get back in.
This is something Anet need to address. It’s unreasonable, selfish behaviour and essentially, it’s griefing, even if unintended.
I like that way the thread divides neatly into two camps – the utterly jaundiced and the ever-hopeful!
lmao.
I should imagine they’ll decide to make an alternative way to gain these titles – maybe something involving a jumping puzzle?
I’d keep it quiet about having done the JP one’s if I were you.
You don’t want to look like a total kitten in front of the real men.
I can see how this would be seriously difficult from a programming perspective.
Character selection is made at a very early point, before the main program begins to run. But entry into WvW is much later on, in an entirely different part of the process after establishing the avatar in some location then starting queueing.
A bit like going to collect your new car from the showroom and then deciding you’d prefer a different make/model.
I think you are probably ‘asking for the moon’ as the saying goes.
The whole point of the game as it’s designed is to get as many people as possible into as big a fight as possible.
No offence, but if you don’t like it, you’re playing the wrong game.
Don’t make me look at that list of pointless, impossible achievements. It just makes me steam every time.
Perhaps now you’ll realise there’s an order to things in the Universe. Some people get to win, others get to lose.
Get used to it, you’ve got a further 50-60 years of it coming.
There is no way in hades you can do enough damage to a gate on your own, to take enough credit for the break when someone else is using a ram right alongside you.
Your best option is to find a nice safe tower, build a treb and start pounding a neighbouring tower to rubble.
If you can do that in such a way that it helps your side in the battle – so much the better.
PS. Overlook vs SM or Anza is easiest – that’s why there are suddenly dozens of trebs lined up along that lower wall.
There’s no sense in which you could have organised battles with all 24 servers. It would just become a continuing free-for-all: A large scale version of the 3-way fights we sometimes get in SM or the keeps.
I can see that might be attractive to the anarchic members of the community but anyone who wanted to organise any sort of battle-plan would be wasting their time.
Add in the fact that this mode has no influence on PPT and you’ve essentially got an entirely separate form of battleground that has nothing to do with WvW. No connection at all.
I doubt that I will find it interesting. If it takes population pressure off the existing maps though, I’m all for it.
It sounds like you have a pretty one-dimensional view of the game. You say you don’t like ‘it’ but you don’t say what the ‘it’ is you don’t like.
Since there are dozens of facets to the game allowing you to play pretty well whatever and however you want, it sounds to me that you had a rigid idea of what you wanted the game to be and it doesn’t fit your criterion.
Fine, move on.
What’s up with Piken, for the number 2 in Gold League a very bad start. Do your guilds boycott reset or is the only way you can make points night capping?:)
Always at weekends. Monday real kitten’s starting
Actually, there was a strange glitch at reset. A lot of people got kicked out of the queue instead of going in. Then there seemed to be very few of us (on EB anyway) compared to the massive zergs we were facing.
Dunno what that was about – maybe it was just subjective.
Anyway, whatever – prepare for some bottom kicking.
Rewards generally in the game have become increasingly kittenrdly over the months.
Loot bag drops, badge drops have been nerfed and the introduction of account bound T7 materials was just adding insult to injury.
Presumably Anet think that making the stuff more difficult to obtain will induce us to keep grinding. Maybe that works for some people.
there is a pve item, forgot the name, that allows any class to use smoke bomb
Smoke Bomb : Environmental weapon.
Blinds foes for 12 minutes (!).
a) Blind is nor stealth, it just makes you miss
b) Not usable in WvW.
And I actually played WoW and i never got spammed with duel requests.
Outside Orgrimmar in prime-time, there was almost always a group trying to get duels with passing lowbies who had just exited from the starting grounds. Obviously these were easy pickings for the tooled-up lvl 80s hoping to add to their world score.
Maybe your server was different, but I thought it was pretty sad.
Of course it’s how the game should be played. It’s not a bug, nor is it a flaw, it’s quite intentional.
The counter is quite simple. It just needs you to actually stop running around with the karma train and deal with it.
No.
You’d have the same situation as WoW, with thieves and warriors endlessly spamming ‘duel?’ at everyone in LA. (Except other thieves, warriors)
This is one of the no-brainer suggestions that’s been aired regularly for the last year.
Along with coloured commander tags, shorter names and displaying rank titles to allies.
Ain’t never going to happen.
In fact there’s a good chance of them being made brighter and selectable, just to make sure you don’t miss them.
Anet employees – obviously
The only thing I seem that ‘may’ I mean MAY be a hack is combat speed . Once in a while I fight someone who seem to have perma quickness in those cases it could well be a string of lucky procs.
Since you don’t see the name of your enemies it makes it very hard to spot cheaters. In other games you can generally find the hackers because you see the same guy doing the fishy stuff all the time. In GW2 the only thing you have to go with is the guild tag which can be swapped anything you want. So when you see things that’s fishy you really have only that one instance to judge where if you know who it is people can see the name and start recording fights and catch cheaters that way.
IMO this is a big problem in this game. Cheats are able to hide in anonymity.
In other games you have a chance to spot a potential hacker before it happens and be ready to grab the evidence.
In this game, all you get is ‘what the kitten?!’ and it’s too late.
I can’t see myself getting it, despite being a 24/7 WvW player.
I play mostly borderlands so the Mercenary camps are not really my ‘thing’ (More kitten PvE). Looking at the numbers, I’d have to spend forever in EB to get the ach. Especially with the toxic nonsense having taken over everything in that area.
The alternative would be to do a JP (shudder).
Whatever, I think we’re stuck with it.
IMO Anet made a lot of bad game choices lately as far as WvW. They’ve never shown the slightest inclination to back-track on similar changes so live with it or leave.
I’ve posted a similar thread. So yes – something is going on.
It may be a bug, it may be a hack. I have no idea.
Before this goes any further being Copy-Pasted endlessly,
For those of you for whom English is a second language,
The word is THROUGH not TROUGH.
It’s unnecessary.
This is just an L2P issue. The ability to run through your opponent(s) is a useful tactic. That’s why everyone disconnects Target Assist. Lean to master it.
Yup, ever since the last patch we’ve had queues into apparently empty battlegrounds and that’s been red mostly.
Dunno where they all are – I guess 50-60 people can just disappear into the landscape.
There is a bug related to a consumable item that lets you do it
Not gonna post it here obviously, its already been forwarded to devs
Now to wait 5 months until it gets fixed
That’s what I was looking for. Thought it had to be something like that.
Now I just need to look see what just went through the roof on the TP.
Appears these threads tend to get removed rather than answered.
I think according to the Forum Rules you’re only allowed to post positive feedback so it’s nor surprising.
10 gold? You think that’s a lot?
Some of them at least were likely queued for another WvW map or sPvP match and they got the queue prompt. When this happens they’d have a 30-60s or so window to travel to the WvW map or SPvP match (depending on which). This can be done even if you’re in combat.
I considered this. It’s a possibility but the chances of a queue pop at just the right moment (even given 60s leeway) really make it highly unlikely.
More likely IMO is the possibility of a disconnect, maybe triggered by a sudden burst of activity. I’ve certainly been getting a lot of DCs lately but I don’t think any happened in a fight.
PS. I play Norn. The Norn elite doesn’t work like that, you transform very obviously into a ‘leopard’ first.
There are a lot of mechanics in the game that allow people to stealth, blink and generally get away but recently I’ve noticed an upsurge in the number of enemies who simply disappear when attacked.
It’s become common to catch someone and move in for a killing blow, sometimes even down them and suddenly they’re gone.
Yesterday I saw a whole raiding party at our North camp one by one pop out of existence when they got caught by a bunch of us. They didn’t reappear either, they were simply gone.
At one time there was a bug that allowed you to call up a WP and keep the accept dialog box on-screen to pop even if you were in combat. This was removed (I just checked to make sure). Apart from that, I can’t think of any mechanism that might do this.
Any ideas?
Don’t be silly. It attracts PvE players into WvW and gives them something to do instead of getting involved in all that nasty fighting.
Working as intended.
P.S Just came across a bunch of toxic whatevers actually capping a sentry post. Pity we killed them actually – should’ve waited to see which side they were on.

Whether it’s worse or better depends on how jaundiced you feel about the negative changes.
Some improvements have been made – the lake was removed and replaced by more interesting topology, culling was removed. That’s about it on the positive side.
Most of the remaining changes have apparently been made with the intention of attracting PvE players. Extra rewards for grind activities and grind-based extra skills added.
It seems to have succeeded. Now we can’t play unless we queue for hours and when we do get in, the standard of gameplay has gone down the pan.
Wow – you get 16fps?! You running a Cray?
The only thing wrong with Mesmer is the poor movement speed out of combat, which forces us to stick with an otherwise mediocre weapon or use mediocre and expensive runes.
Tibstrike answered this well enough.
But I’ll take issue with him saying you should do what the commander wants regardless. I’m not prepared to follow a bad commander and keep paying repair bills while he continues to insult me.
A good commander of course – that’s a different matter. Even if he makes mistakes occasionally.
My personal strategy is this:-
When playing a heavy armour class, I stack as tight as possible on the Commander to take advantage of the AoE limit and the heals/buffs coming in from various sources.
When playing a ranged clothie, I avoid heavy concentrations of AoE, regardless of the screams to ‘STACK!!!’. Good commanders will realise that necessity and really they mean for only melee to stack.
I dps from maximum range if at all possible, avoid being hit and run clear to heal if I do get hit.
As an example, only today we had a very good commander with us who specifically instructed range to keep clear and dps as far as possible. We had open ground and plenty of room to move The result was that we wiped a zerg easily five times our size who stuck together. (tbh despite my own misgivings as we attacked)
If we’d all just stacked they would have simply run us over..
Specific sub-case:-
That’s a tricky one. If you join the initial rush, even as a clothie you stand a chance because of the short-term stability/ invulnerability buffs your group can muster.
If there’s more AoE inside and nowhere to dodge out of it, you may not survive.
It’s a fine call you have to make based on your own experience.
If you’re not sure, hang back – but you might miss out on the loot.
