What does it matter?
All 3 servers have the same map. All 3 servers have the same opportunities to take any structure, there’s no advantage/disadvantage to anyone.
You may as well complain it’s easier to take hills than garrison.

I think it’s funny.
It relieves the monotony of having to stand around waiting while the server resets and it’s a nice little mini-game of it’s own.

Nobody’s caught me yet – but then again, I’m not dumb!

Delete your dat file and run repair.

It reduced some of the skill lag for me – not perfect, but a lot better than it had been over the last week or so.

I won’t miss the Krait. Trying to cross the lake with those kitten stuns and immobs every few seconds is ALMOST as annoying as the cliff obstacles around garrison.

(WHY is the entrance to Citadel round the back? No sane Architect would have designed it like that)

I think Anet got it about right.

It’s very difficult for a thief to maintain Perma-Stealth, you have to set up a black powder AoE, then jump through it with HS several times before it fades. It’s hard work to keep that going without a slip up and it severely limits your mobility.
The concentration required to keep it up for long periods is mind-numbing.
Not my idea of fun really.

The perma-stealth isn’t a perfect invisibility either because the BP AoE can be seen . If you see that and know what it means, you can easily flush the thief out.
Knowing how your enemy works is 90% of the fight in this game.

TLDR: L2P

If the server you are on has never held Stonemist then that server is seriously bad at WvW.

If you want to WvW, you owe it to yourself to transfer to a server where you can enjoy the company of others with the same interest and who can probably teach you a thing or two. Shake the dust off your feet and move.

That’s what I did.

It isn’t really a problem. The poor commanders (read inexperienced) tend to only show up off-prime-time when ANY commander is better than none.

In prime time they rapidly lose their following to any good one that shows up.

I joined a medium server – found it was actually low (in WvW)
So I transferred to another medium server in the mid-ranking for WvW. But I find it’s Soooo good at WvW that it’s now ranked in the top 5 and facing huge blobs.

There’s no escape.

There’s something different about the skill lag since the last patch.

The ‘standard’ skill lag I’ve experienced in the past stops most skills working but you can still move around more or less in real-time, dodge attacks etc. #1 skill generally works.

But this ‘new’ lag is more like a complete server shut-down for several seconds. The characters around you run into walls or keep repeating animations and NO skills work, not even #1. All sounds and particle effects stop.
Then there’s a sudden ‘catch-up’, all the toons rubber-band to new positions and you’re probably dead. Or worse, the system times out completely and you get a DC.

So, you don’t want to do dungeons (i.e. PvE) and you don’t want to do PvP?

That kinda narrows the options.

I’ve currently got ~300 gold in my account. It’s a bit low at the moment because I’ve been gearing a new 80 character.

Quite honestly, it’s just a matter of being careful. I make no special effort to collect gold. In fact, since I spend most of my time in WvW and don’t do any dungeons or events, I actually make very little.

Probably it’s just the fact that I’m not interested in Legendaries and skins and suchlike – there’s nothing I want to buy so I don’t spend it

The Character name displayed above your toon is the one shown on the Character Selection screen at login.

It’s also the name that appears when you type a message in chat.

Eventually, after you’ve played the game a while, you’ll learn where the dynamic events are, when they are likely to start etc.
That will be the time for you to quit playing because the game’s finished.

Treat GW2 like the real world – just go out and explore – see what happens and where it takes you.

If you want real adventure though – go into WvW at prime time and ask in map chat what to do.

Never seen anyone write ‘PvF’ but ‘PvE’ is common enough.
Player versus Environment. As opposed to PvP – Player versus Player.

Then there’s PvDoor – obvious?
And PvX – meaning Pv anything

I think you’ll find that most of Piken have gone off to do something more interesting.

That sounds like a really interesting problem to get round. I might try doing it to see how many ways there are to recover.

A level 6 is no great loss – I’ve created and deleted dozens of toons around that level.

There’s karma – you must have a bit stashed away. You could go into WvW and sit on some siege to make some karma and maybe loot. Jumping Puzzles are quite lucrative… There’s probably a dozen ways.
lol! There are even environmental weapons – you could pick up a rock and bash something’s head in!

I’m just curious what you bought that’s so useless you can’t trade it back.

I’ve never had any difficulty just selling everything on the TP at ‘match lowest offer’. Even whites often go for better than vendor price.

Occasionally something will hang a week or two but I just re-list it. I inevitably make more than the salvage ever gets me.

The only thing I consider salvaging is valuable upgrades from my own used gear. Then I use the Black Lion kit to make sure.

Here’s my two gold pieces worth:-

Get used to the Black Lion Trading Post.
You’ll pick up a lot of stuff as you go along and need to get rid of a lot of it. You’ll be tempted to just vendor it to one of the many ‘merchants’ standing around – DON’T!

Some of it is really quite valuable so check to see if you can sell it for serious cash on the TP – and don’t just take the best purchase offer ( a lot of people are trying to buy cheap to sell high). Always list it at ‘match lowest seller’.
When you need to buy something, be sure to reverse that and make an offer – don’t just accept the price you’re given.
It will take a while to close each deal that way – but you’ll end up a lot richer.

And try out WvW early, you don’t need to be level 80 to compete. It can be a good way to level – much kitten ring than PvE.

I’m running a 3.6 GHz 8 core processor with 7900 series GPU, solid state drive and a fibre optic internet connection. I built this set-up specifically to play GW2. And I run at quite low graphics settings to get best performance in WvW.

Normally, I have no problems at all. This week is completely different. The game runs quite normally until a larg-ish engagement starts (not talking a 3-way megablob clash here – just a moderate number of players), then the connection freezes.

What I see is all the players around me run into walls or continuously repeat some animation for several seconds, all particle effects seem to stop. then they all rubber-band to a new location with a big explosion of particle effects. Sometimes I get a disconnection – it’s pretty obvious that the connection has paused at the server end and my client is trying to fill-in the movements by extrapolation (clever stuff really).
Sometimes the connection doesn’t resume in time and times out. Hence the DC.

I’m not convinced it’s just numbers although we are facing very long queues this week.

I’m trying to enjoy WvW in the EU top tier with Seafarer’s, Elona and Piken this week.

Quite simply it is impossible. The server is clearly overloaded. Apart from the issue of queues on all battlegrounds at peak times, even off-peak the lag spikes make play impossible.

Moving around the map between fight seems OK but the moment there is an engagement of even a moderate number of players, I experience huge lag spikes of several seconds.
There are also random disconnections, commonly in the middle of such a fight.

This is making the game literally unplayable. Other people on Piken have confirmed the same problems. I don’t know if the other servers have the same difficulties.

It’s on all 4 maps. There’s no escape.
It’s not as if the fights are all that big really – maybe 50 ppl in all.

Salvage nothing except for recovering valuable runes and sigils. (Use a Black Lion kit only)

Sell everything on the TP at ‘match lowest seller’. If it doesn’t sell after a month re-list it.

The gold you make will more than cover the cost of anything you need to buy. Trust me

Edit: And of course – never pay the asking price – haggle.

Besides, it’s been removed from gear stats and transferred into an account wide buff.
So you don’t need to think about it any more – it just happens.

I really have a hard time understanding why anyone plays this game for the sake of the pixel-trakitten

If you get no fun out of killing the fake monsters and don’t dare to try your skill against others in PvP there’s nothing left.

Whatever you do, don’t go into WvW, you won’t like it at all.

How can anyone tell you whether you’ll enjoy something or not?

I like WvW, I think the PvE content in the game is puerile, adolescent kitten.
Others violently disagree.

It’s up to you. For the price of a good bottle of whisky you can find out.

Since I’m having fun doing it, I don’t really pay any attention to levelling as such so I just stick with normal food buffs. I’d rather win a fight than gain a few XP.

On my current character (lvl 55 now) I’ve thought about crafting a few levels but decided I can’t be bothered. Even for the matter of 5-6 gold to go up 10 levels with cooking, it just doesn’t seem worth the effort of assembling the mats and going through the guide. – I’d rather be fighting.

Seriously, how do you guys play all the time in this lag?

Whenever we engage, I get up to 5 second lag spikes where every player around me runs on the spot for a while then there’s a big flash and I’m lying dead yards away from where I though I was – apparently I got killed a while back.

I mean, it’s hopeless. None of the skills work, not even #1.

I don’t know if it’s the latest patch but I’m even getting DCs every 20 minutes or so. I have to make sure to log in via one of the cities or it costs a fortune in WP charges to rez.
I’ve lost count of the times I’ve turned up dead in LA.

I love big fights – up to the limit where skill-lag sets in.
I love it even more when we get most of our zerg on TS and we can really go to town.

What I don’t love is one server roflstomping around the map trashing a heavily outnumbered opponent – but that’s the game design.
It’s even worse if you have to queue to get in then get roflstomped.

Unfortunately, like all good ideas this too will be ignored. (sigh) Anet have their own plans for WvW.

I’ve often thought this would be a good idea.

Another, similar point is the fact that when you break through the outer wall of a keep/castle, there’s often a great pile of supply sitting in the depot there – but you can’t use it!
How daft is that? – We should be able to steal it of course!

And how come loot bags never drop supply? The people are supposed to have some aren’t they? Where is it? I want it.

May as well remove the rams too, and the towers and keeps.

In fact, flatten it all out, remove the wildlife and trees and mow the grass. Then to make it absolutely fair, give everyone the same weapons, armour, skills and stats.

Have you all forgotten that ACs were recently buffed to their current levels?
Acs are exactly as powerful as Anet decided they should be in a very recent revamping so that won’t change.

As for Mesmers and Stabilty in a zerg – lol! what’s a Mesmer doing in the middle? Run around the edges you kitten. Don’t stand in the fire!
Your job is to pull suckers from the zerg, kite them around a bit, then kill them.

You are correct in saying that there are bugs. It is possible that a bug could have done this, or possibly someone had found an angle to get LoS through the top of the door. But it seemed to me unlikely.

There are people in this game, on all the servers, who are decent people, fun to play with and good company. They abide by the rules because that’s what makes a game fun.

Levelling is VERY effective in WvW.

You make tons of karma, which you can use to buy suitable WvW gear from vendors in the bg. (keep your gear as current as possible then it gets uplevelled properly with you)
Stay with the zerg for maximum loot minimum danger. NEVER travel alone if you can possibly help it. (Unless you are a Thief or Mesmer)

Crafting is a big gold-sink, avoid if possible.
Ditto, avoid the magic toilet and all forms of bling – gold-sinks all.
Sell all loot and gatherings on the TP – you will be amazed how much people will pay for stuff.

Above all – have fun.

I use WvW for levelling – it’s much more fun than the PvE quests.

You need to keep your armour and weapons as current as possible ( tip: buy PvP gear for karma from the vendors in WvW – look around, they’re there.)
If you do that, the uplevel boost you get will make you competitive.

You don’t need to hide either. An uplevelled character is only missing traits and skills that make life easier, it’s not lacking killing power or toughness/vitality. In a 1v1 you still can win with skill alone.

A true warrior is interested only to perfect his skill.

Skill lag and rubber-banding up to several seconds is making it impossible to play this week.
It’s the sheer size of the SFR and ER blobs. Everything’s fine until you enter a combat area and then you can ‘feel’ the lag kick-in.

I think most of Piken have decided to skip this week, we only seem to have a handful of players on at any one time.
Not helped by the fact that at least two of our more popular pug commanders have taken the week off. There are people running around with tags up I’ve never heard of and without naming names, some of them are kitten useless. (not all, I hasten to add)

Oh, and yes. I was there in Garrison this morning. Whoever was using the zoom hack to destroy all our siege must be pretty proud of himself. 30+ against a half-dozen and you still need to cheat?

I see a lot of our pugs dying from a single arrow cart (even lvl 80), when they are like 10-15+ stacked on a gate with a single guy in defense on an arrow cart …
That’s the kind of rally bots who are better dead at the start of a fight, because if they last longer or come late in the fight, they will rally more peole later.
Even when they miraculously manage to get a little better and become average, we still get more new guys that have to learn the hard way and make it a lot harder for people who have a working brain with 2 hands.

It’s pretty difficult to actually die to a single AC, or even 4 or 5. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that. Not on Piken anyway.

It’s bad news. Now theyv’e introduced the mechanism, they’ll be tempted to use it more and more.

Let me guess – Ogrewatch, Piken assaulting, shortly after reset last night.

When the buff timer ended, the Lord simply refused to die, with the buff still up and no countdown showing. Lasted about a minute.

The stomp mechanic is bad news.
This will mean that people will be competing for kills, something this game has so far avoided with good reason.

It’s going to adversely affect the spirit of camaraderie, which has been one of the nicest features of the game. I’d hate to see this go the way WoW ended up with people trading insults in chat and on the forums.

If my guild owns a keep and it gets attacked a message should show up in gchat.

That’s what scouts are for. :P

Nobody likes spam. It spoils the game experience so much that it’s regarded as cause for a ban.

So why do Anet do it to us with these new ‘Living Story’ messages we get flashed across the screen?

Maybe I’m alone in this, in which case I’ll leave you to enjoy the experience.
But surely there must be others playing WvW who take exception to being informed that some irrelevant PvE event or other is currently active in some PvE zone or other.
