Bump again.

Seems like a very easy problem to fix because the problem wasn’t always there.
If I remember right Elixir S worked fine up untill the Halloween patch.
When tht patch came out there was a brief period where you could zoom out almost double the amount. (which was awesome for nade throwing BTW)
When they fixed this issue is when I first started to notice the camera bug.

I could be remembering it wrong but I am pretty sure that is how it went.
So it seems like they should be able to narrow down the problem rather easily.

You don’t get a separate or different boon per condition just a boon.

So technically you could clense 5 different conditions and only get swiftness stacks.

Okay so now that the drama has died down a bit.

I like how Blackgate seems to confuse their one win as ability instead of the opportunism and lack of foresight that it actually is. You played yourselves to death for 2 days while JQ more or less went and took a break and let you win out of pity and followed up the next week by beating the socks off of you with a 90k win.

Now, to quote the great movie Clue, I’m gonna go home and sleep with my wife.

I love the, “now tht the drama has died down, I will start it again with a pretentious fathead statement about how other ppls accomplishments don’t count because they are not as good as me and can only win when I allow them to win”

These 3 servers remind me of Claw of Jormag phase 3.

SoR = The grp that just stands on the rightside hill in a big laggy grp and autoattacks for 1/10th the damage.

BG = The grp that escorts the Golems and tries to play the event the way it was intended.

JQ = The grp that has so many ppl they can manage to do both.

In the end the Dragon still dies and everyone can claim they had fun doing it w/e way they decided to do and its no use trying to convince the other side tht your way is better.

For me HGH has always been more of a solo type trait since you are strengthening yourself to stand up to other naturally stronger professions.

If you are in a party it would be better to let it be known for your grp to focus your target. Then drop some Alchemy traits for maybe Firearms.
Since you are using Rifle you could drop Elixir B for Net Turret and get Sitting Duck Trait.
Then if you land 2 nets on a target they will get 10 stacks of vuln to help out your team, works great with a gank Thief.

Mostly I would focus more on CC if you are going to be so Tanky, you can’t rely on killing ppl yourself but you can be one of the best helpers in the game.

Man the siege trolling sure does suck.
I remember when BG was getting trolled a few weeks ago but it didnt seem to go on as long as the JQ & SoR one.

Maybe if Commanders where given the ability to deconstruct siege it would fix it.
Then Anet would just have to keep track of Commander Trolls.
Or Vote Kick rights
Or dedicated player Mods.

EB should be the only 3-way battle map.
The 3 homeland maps should only have the Defenders and the Attackers and the attacking server is what should be rotated every week.

In the Tier 1 I am in we have faught the same 2 servers for over a month now. Its the same thing over and over and over from the same players over and over and over. All 3 servers have adapted the, run in a single zerg that is as big as you can possible make it, this means when 2 zergs meet up and battle all players will get skill lag even if you are across the map.
With the skill lag and general server lag along with PC lag most fights consist of dodging and autoattacking and desperatly trying to get your heal to work.

This is Tier 1 and is what supposedly all the servers should be aspiring to be, if not eventually when server populations decline servers will be dropped and merged and the few remaining will be more or less forced into the Lagtastic-ZvZ-PVdoor rushes.

Just a few days ago we had at least 10 pieces of siege at the NE tower and they were all manned along with another 15ppl trying to fight back and the enemy zerg still just stopped in the middle of the road, built about 4 Golems while under fire of all that siege and took the gate down in less than 2 minutes.

All the while the only reward for WvW is loot bags that you have to pick up so the winning zerg is the only one who gets compensated for playing the game. The point system means nothing more than “we have more players on throughout the day then you do”

So when the next MMO comes out hopefully they will learn from Anet’s mistakes and make a consistant battle realm that will keep players playing for reasons besides “its the only one out right now”

The Rune set is Boring.
Like most the Profession specific Rune sets.
Pure stats should have gone to the other w/e named runes and Profession runes should have been made more fun.

Like
Rune x4 5% chance to summon Rifle Turret on attack.
Rune x6 Remove 20global CD from KR.

Something fun like that.

Since that is the game everyone will be playing within a year or two.

Actually, it isn’t designed to be that way. Orbs are supposed to make the other 2 servers attack the strongest one. Without orbs in the game, it is broken and therefore the current state is WHY orbs existed in the first place. If you don’t understand why orbs are meant to exist, you don’t understand how WvW was meant to be balanced. (Hint: it isn’t by having equal population)

I agree.
But there are no Orbs and haven’t been for awhile.
So right now WvW is designed to be more beneficial to always attack the weaker targets, in the largest grp possible.
Which is what happens most often.

This reminds me of something I saw in HBO’s “Big Love”.
Polygamists try to avoid only having 3 wives because 2 always have the tendancy to gang up on the other.

Seems like someone, who could have been anyone, for any reason, siege trolled JQ and the rhetoric turns into all of BG are arrogant cheaters and we should make their fun not fun.

Too bad since its always just a small minority of ppl that want to troll, cheat and play unfair!

I say shame on all of you immature players who have lost sight of the point of video games.

But mostly Shame on Anet for making a game that pits the same ppl against eachother week after week in a long match where everyone always claims points don’t even matter. .

Think WvW needs to drop a wife on all maps but EB then rotate who is attacking/defending who.

I am a Drunken Mechanic in WvW.

I use P/P HGH+TK
With a focus on Condition Duration.

13 secs of confusion in 2 attacks usually buys me the time to apply all the other conditions I have.

In Zergs it is much less effective, but with the way Zergs are in my Tier (Tier 1) most builds are less effective since you can usually only manage to autoattack.

I have tried all the other gimmicky builds focused around a single burst or rotation but always come back to the good ole Reactive Gameplay of HGH P/P.

Every fight is exciting because I am not putting my hopes into a single attack.

Your thoughts on an all Engineer Guild name!!

I think KR in its current state is nothing more than an afterthought Trait.
Even in the build I am trying to mess around with the single mine from Nade Kit isn’t exactly necessary I was just trying to find some way of actually using KR.
(And really if I dropped NadeKit and KR and picked up TK and Power Wrench it would be much easier to CC and strip boons)

Unless KR is made to only activate in combat or given separate CDs then IMO it is now nothing more than a 10pt floater Trait that ppl will take for specific reasons(Like “I am going to farm wurms so I’ll grab KR for Medkit”).

The effects are actually pretty cool and if they had been there from the start without the new CD restrictions I think there would been some pretty sweet and unique KR builds tht would utilize fast kit swapping and the benefit KR would give, Just like Juggernaught benefits staying in a kit for longer

But unless the Trait is reworked we will never see a new “Kit Refinement” build, maybe just few builds that happen to use Kit Refinement.
None of the effects on a 20sec semi-controlled CD are worth trying to define a build around.

Rifle/Throw Mine/Grenade Kit/Slick Shoes
30/10/00/10/20
Been trying to use this effectively in WvW but the difficulty is pretty high.
No Stun Breaker so I use the auto Elixir S.

Basically if you can land a Net Shot you can follow up with Slick Shoes and while they are knocked down drop Mine Field,Grenade Kit(KR Mine),Barrage+other nades and you can use the Throw Mine to snag them when they try to run since it cannot be blocked.

In some ways it plays similar to 100nades since you have to be ontop of someone for the Nade KR mine to do anything.

I haven’t played with it too much and I have had some pretty sweet wins along with some ugly losses. Mostly its a reactive gameplay style and the success seems to come from enemies constantly trying to restack the boons you are taking meaning they arent doing as much DPS.

Once you use Slick Shoes though you are a little low on tricks and will have to Skirmish with Rifle and Nades.

I will post this here only once because I don’t want a workaround to the camera bug to in any way hinder the fixing of the camera bug.

For Elixir S.
(If you position the camera above your character looking down you will avoid the camera bug)
This is still very annoying since most the time you will be using Elixir S for an escape or disengagement and will naturally have the camera behind you

The camera can be tricky with Asura but its only really noticable when doing things like jumping puzzles.

A very annoying bug with Asura Engineers is with the Elixir S skill, which shrinks you and makes you invulnerable, which is awesome but with Asura the camera will often bug out and zoom in&out rapidly and in some ways ruin the skill effect.

Other than that I take insult to you even considering some other brutish,stinky race or burpers, farters and tree humping plant ppl.

Ahh, well luckily I don’t have any lag problems really. Sometimes I have slight lag issues but when that’s the case I’ll just switch to performance mode on the graphics settings (I run high Quality). I guess my home built PC runs GW2 pretty well

Speaking of which, perhaps this is why my Tank build works so well as I can run into the enemy zerg with no problem and run around tagging different people.

I normally run on High/Ultra settings and have no problem in PvE or smaller scale fighting in WvW.
But Skill Lag isn’t on the PC side its on the server side and in Teir 1 you can get Skill Lag even when you are by yourself on the otherside of the map.
The way I understand it is that when so many players on the same map are all hitting skills at the same time it lags out the server.
Its the same that happens when Jormag(any dragon) spawns.

I envy all the lower tier servers who don’t have to deal with it.
Don’t aspire to be Tier 1 because 50+vs50+vs50+ all in the Garri as the same time is all it is.
And autoattacking is all you can do.

You can still defend incredibly well. 3 things:

Bomb kit, throw mine, flamethrower.

You can’t get very close under a heavy siege for bomb kit – but that’s not what you need. Typically, open with air blast – run in, drop big ol’ bomb (take the larger blast radius trait, please, and after that detonates, use throw mine. You might have to self detonate it, but the point of all this is still there – you’re trolling the living crap out of them and keeping them off their rams. Flamethrower works great, but as others have said, retaliation utterly slaughters you. But you can still do some fairly decent damage, but you’ll have to back off every now and then to heal up.

This.
1 Engineer isnt going to stop a grp that is big enough to keep constant stacks of retaliation on the door along with aoe attacks.
Against a smaller strike force 1 Engineer isnt going to kill anyone but they can sure make it a pain in the kitten and take alot longer.
And they can do it without having to retrait, just switch your skills and the vanilla versions will work just fine to accomplish this.
You might not destroy the rams before they knock down the door but there is a good chance you will make it take so long that some back up will arrive and you can destroy the rams after they leave.

Its these small unrewarded victories that make it all worth while right!?

We are one of the luckier professions when it comes to base defense because we have alot of options to keep us off the tops of walls!

I have been making an effort to avoid large zerg battles because of the horrendous skill lag they produce.

Since the Engineer is riddled with cast-time skills I can hardly ever get a skill off.

Since other profession have much easier access to certain condition skills that are instant and easier to cast I usually get loaded down before I can even attack.

Most Zerg battles go like this for me.
Stack Might or w/e in my own zerg then we all rush in.
Before I can even land an autoattack I end up with 15+ stacks of confusion.
While spamming w/e condition cleanser I have and watching it blink and do nothing I end up with just about every other condition in the game.
So my Zerg battle ends with either me lag dying after hitting 2-3 ppl or me running out of the battle trying to get far enough away for my heal to work.

Soooooo…….
I have since just let Zergs rush eachother and I just stay on the sides and run up to all the Rangers,Necros & Eles that just stand in one spot spamming a key and I smack them with prybar and static shot and watch them kill themselves because they play like bots.

I am on a Teir 1 server and this is all that happens anymore on our home BL, both opposing servers run in 50+ zergs ( basically the entire map pop ) so WvW battles are nothing more than huge lagfests where more than likely the ones that win are the ones with more ppl, because of the other genius mechanic of being able to rez ppl faster than they can be killed by 3 enemies.

Elixir random effects - idea/discussion

It has been complained about since before release and Anet still justifies their decision to have so much RNG on the Engineer only.

Sometimes you will get lucky and the RNG will work in your favor and sometimes(most times for me) you will get unlucky and do something like pop Stability when trying to escape and quickly die, when going stealth, dropping targetting and giving a chance to heal would have saved you.

Some ppl have embraced the RNG and have just learned to deal with it but for me it just adds a layer of gameplay to our profession that nobody else has to deal with. You could argue how powerful it is to have different options in a single skill but imo it is much more powerful to know exactly what will happen when you use something so you can easily make a quick judgement on how to move foward.

With RNG and Elixir S most situations boil down to;
I hope this pops Stealth so I can get away(etc)
or
I hope this pops Stability so I can stomp(etc)
(same thing with Elixir X)
Well put hope in one hand and kitten in the other.

The other Elixirs (H,B,U) are just added effects to me, I hardly take notice to what RNG boons I get since because its random you cannot plan around and single one.
Low on Health?
Use Throw Elixir H and get swiftness
gratz to you unlucky person!

The arguments are nothing new however and it would seem like Elixir RNG is here to stay. Anet devs want to defend their decision even though they know it was a bad one or they wouldnt even consider changing the RNG, like they have already have.

The Engie Tooltip is wrong but haste is from Thieves and their tooltip correctly shows lose all endurance and stop endurance regen.

Not sure about the Elixir U not working, maybe a bug.

The endurance is most likely from the Elixir U, one of the RNG negative side-effects is lose all endurance.

I also love how 70% of the time when I try to drop Supply Crate I see the animation of it hitting the ground but due to lag it doesnt actually cast the skill just puts it on the the 4 sec interupt CD.

Laggy Zerg fighting in WvW is awesome when 95% of our skills have cast times, even drinking Elixirs! Throw Elixirs have a cast time AND travel time! its a good thing all the effects are so powerful they balance out being so slow!
(Except Elixir S which seems to be instant!? Some type of special quik use vial? Maybe you don’t have to pull out a cork like Elixir B or peel back the pudding lid like Elixir H?)

I don’t think most ppl are claiming anything from the old Kit Refinement was OP or not OP.
Most ppl are saying that if something was unbalanced about the Trait it could have received a great many changes to put it in balance.
(Like a longer CD on SE for example)
Instead it was completely wiped and changed.

Everyone can remain optimistic and argue in hopes that Anet will take notice and change things.
But going by Anet’s prior history I think they are more likely to just see Nakoda’s arguements and single point and take them as confirmation that they made a good change.

I actually really like the new KR effects and I think tht if they had been changed before release than there would never have been any complaints about KR being OP and there would never have been any reason to implement a 20 sec GCD.

But thats not what happened Anet made a 10 point trait that was so good it would define entire builds. When it was deemed to powerful it was completely wiped and changed.

Nakoda’s Point
The new KR effects are now just an added effect, that you will receive in the natural course of switching kits, sometimes it will be at a helpful time and sometimes it will not.
This is very true and is they way that this trait needs to be viewed from now on.

Everyone else’s Point
It was a real kitten move to remove something and replace it with something entirely different 7 months into the game. Especially when it was a very popular trait that fit into alot of very popular builds. (It would be like if mug was changed to not do damage but grant swiftness)
I think alot of ppl feel like a simply changing Dmg/CDs or moving it up the trait tree would have been enough to balance the trait without completely changing it

This is also true but it is in the past so there is no use in crying or arguing about it any more.

The OP is correct, the old way of using Kit Refinement is dead.
@Nakoda gratz on moving on faster than most other ppl, you don’t see the changes to KR as negatively as others and thats all well and good but I am suprised at how much effort you have but in to trolling everyones complaints by repeating your one factual statement “the new KR just refines switching kits, it does not define switching kits”
I realize you don’t consider it trolling but it is, otherwise you would have made your point once.

@Everyone else
Convincing Nakoda or anyone else that the new KR sucks compared to the old one will not convince a Dev to change it back.
Time to let the fun that was Kit Refinement go and keep trying to come up with a few good Turret builds.

Smoke + Blast Area Stealth Combo Rotation

The blast finisher from mine comes when you detonate it not when you throw it down.
Thumper Turrets blast finisher is from the overcharge attack.

You can lay down the thumper and mine in the same spot then put a field over the top of them and detonate for the finishers.
So you can have these laid down first so you dont have to cast them while the smoke bomb is up.
Also since the Thumper does not attack unless enemies are nearby the overcharge will be instant.

^ Hey man I understand how frustrating it is to see so many QQs and complaints but it is even more frustrating to try and discuss a topic when it gets derailed because of a single quote taken out of context. PPL can go watch the news for 10 minutes if they want to get their fill of that.

The thread is about the lack of builds for the Engineer and how it seems to stem from a lack of vision and direction for the profession, this is something I agree with.

Just because the OP chose to state something with a tone of sarcasism doesnt mean it is fair to write them off as ignorant liars.
Everyone knows that dropping and quik detonating Rifle Turret in an SD build will net more DPS!
Everyone also knows that that extra little bit of DPS has nothing to do with why you take the Turret for SD, it is solely for the superlow CD on the Surprise Shot, if there was another TB skill from a gadget or kit that also had a superlow CD then that is what would be taken.

So the sarcastic part of her statement actually shows shes knows exactly how SD builds work.

I misinterpreted the cooldown. I didn’t realize it was a global cooldown, and I agree 20 seconds seems a bit much. This wouldn’t hurt a Engineer running one or maybe two kits on his skill bar, but someone with three is certainly going to feel this change.

But even with the harsh shared cooldown, is it really that bad of a trait? It still seems to me to be in line with the rest of the Adept traits in the Tools trait line. They all strike me as marginally useful traits.

It is more fitting of a 10 point trait now, meaning it is generally useless and more of an added bonus than a Build Focus.
But your question wasn’t if the new KR is good or bad, since many arguements can/have be(en) made on tht topic.

You asked why ppl are so upset and it is simply that for almost 7 months players had been using and intergrating KR into their various builds and it was one of the most popular traits for the Engineer as it seemed to reward multikit swapping which is what everyone assumed the Engineer was supposed to be about(Thts why its a 1 sec CD for swapping.)
However after all this time and more than likely stemming from the QQ producing BarrageX2, Anet just completely rewrote the Trait to have completetly different effects(no offensive/healing) AND added restrictions that would of seemed harsh adding to the OLD KR effects.

So to alot of ppl it seems like Engineers got double slapped because they figured out how to deliver a high risk/high reward type burst.

Its because it was a complete rewrite of a popular Trait that fit into alot of ppls playstyles.
You could argue whether or not the new KR effects are better or worse than the olds ones.

But the reason so many ppl are upset is the Trait wasn’t just balanced with either ICDs or moving it up the Trait tree, its that it was completely rewritten in how and when it works.

Any profession that receives such a large change would undoubtably have alot of unhappy customers after the fact.

It can be assumed that KR was focused on by the Devs because of the BarrageX2 burst since they as much as said so. So ppl are furthur upset that out of all the professions that can deliver near-instant kills the Engineer is the one that had theirs altered.

Doesn’t really matter though, whats done is done and ppl will have to learn to deal with it.
My prediction is that Kit Refinement will just move down the ladder into a group with all the other Traits that nobody really uses. Then maybe one day down the line the 20sec shared CD will be removed and it might regain some status as a Kit essential Trait that it used to be.

So I am trying to determine what is exactly going on.

I have noticed that I have been missing ALOT with Prybar after Magnet Pull.
I used to land the hits almost everytime without much thought but even when they enemy is right infront of me I get a big MISS over 75% of the time.

So is anyone else having this problem?

I am thinking it is most likely the increase in lag from culling being removed so the enemies are maybe not exactly where they appear to be.
I have tried using other ranged skills right after pull and they never seem to miss.
Either way it is really annoying to have such a powerful skill whiff so often especially since Magnet Pull is unreliable at best to pull ppl all the way to you unless you are on completely flat ground.

I agree with you and I don’t think I could go as far to agree that Turrets are completely useless. I personally love Turrets in PvE but that is because you are more playing against different mob AI so they can be used very strategically to control mob balls.

I do completely agree with you that the problem with Turrets is they dont fit into current game modes and they are hard to build around unless you want to go for sPvP node defense, which they can do very well but not as well as other professions that also spec for full node defense.

Lay the Thumper Down and Mine down first then drop the fields on top of them so you don’t have to spend that extra time laying them down in the middle of rotation.

I’m not saying it will work everytime, but it is a way to use the new kr effectively.. Learn and adapt

sPvP tht could work unless you get stealth with Elixir S then get stunned, knocked down or knocked back.

WvW more than likely what would happen is:
Throw Elixir S, Run into crowded zerg, BoB, receive multiple stacks of confusion, switch to bombs, bomb twice, suck 3 ppl in, grenade barrage then die from killing yourself with confusion and retailiation before BoB goes off.

I don’t think you know what you are talking about.
You want to basically call someone a liar and excuse them of writing completely false information and all you back it up with is your opinion.
(BTW since SD works differently with skills that are targetted or not targetted the SD produced from Detonating Turrets will go straight into the ground more often than hitting the enemy)

We are 7months into the game I think all the testing tht can be done with Turrets has already been done to the point that if the only fix is messing around with stats and CD it wont take long to further test their general uselessness.

You are also defending Turrets by pointing out the gimmick way they can be used, which is deploy and instadetonate, that is the same type of gimmick as the Barrage Burst. So even if someone manages to create a build focused aroung quick detonation, history shows that it wouldnt be long before that got changed.
Every attack skill we have could potentially add DPS so trying to say how usefull it is to deploy a Turret is nonsense, the same could be said for any other skill. In the context of a SD build the Rifle Turret has always been more useful for it TB skill, of course plopping it down will add some damage but thats only if it aims at the target you want or if the enemy is right on top of it so you can get a detonate.

Which is the other point you bring up that I don’t understand, why would anyone focus on Turrets just to Detonate them, Do you really believe that is a viable build?
That IS what this topic is about, the lack of viable builds for the Engineer because we don’t have a focus for our profession. Like the OP believes Anet lacks a solid vision of what they want to the Engineer to be and our skills and traits are so over the place that players have come up with all kinds of “uses” for what we have. Equipping Turrets just to rapid detonate them can be a nice gimmick but will leave you without stunbreakers, damage mitigation or active defense and completely relies on the enemy not figuring out that you are trying to play like a wannabe shatter mesmer, so have fun laying down turrets only to get 10 stacks of confusion slapped on then you are stuck with turrets that will kill you if you detonate or overcharge them.

You are a troll because instead of just stating you don’t agree with someone you start your response off with claiming most the stuff the OP posts is wrong.
You claim how you have 100% the right to analyze ppl playstyles when you yourself state you only use Turrets in sPvP, IMO sPvP is the stupidest part of GW2 so your opinion means nothing and I have 100% the right to say so.
The worst part is you took a quote that was cleary made in a sarcastic tone and used that to attempt to make yourself look smart and the OP stupid( which is the exact word you used)
So you are really a self righteous troll who claims to have a magical insight into the true intention of how the profession is supposed to work and everyone else who claims or points out flaws are just players who arent as good as you or havent figured out your superior style of Turret playing.

The 20 sec shared CD is just lazy.

Imo these 2 things will fix the current KR

#Each effect is given its own unique CD based on the skill. (option I like the best)
#KR effects only trigger while in combat. (not as good by itself but would still help)

(Since all of the skills are dmg mitigation or close range offense they will almost always be wasted when out of combat. This will also allow players to switch to things like Medkit for Swiftness or TK for Box of Nails while running without triggering or wasting the effects. This way you can actually plan and add in your KR effect to flow with your gameplay and combos and wont have to worry that by switching to Medkit for Swiftness&Fury at the start of a fight you are also wasting your effect and putting it on a 20 sec CD)

Got hit by a macro Thief for 22,744 dmg in less than a second, my gear shield was blinking waiting for skill lag.

Its too bad KR barrage was SO OP.

Same but with elixir S blinking!
(dno about same numbers tho)

It was 3 attacks tht he did instantly
Think Steal,Backstab, C&D
2 did close to 10k dmg and the other almost 3k
I have like 22k Health or something and 1200 toughness so kinda lame.

I’ve noticed its a lot harder to react to gib Thieves since culling was removed while the perma stealth pistoleers are alot easier.

I just think that this simple fix will make it much less useless.

^ Nobody is saying you can’t switch kits anymore.
Everyone understands how to switch kits.

The problem is the Kit Refinement Trait which used to be a very important skill in alot of Engineer builds is now just a lame secondary effect that you cannot rely on, it is basically RNG. That is what Anet did, nobody is going to count to 20 to try and keep track of their KR proc, Anet basically made it so when you are switching kits every 20 seconds something will happen.

PPL are kitten because this is a complete redesign of a very popular trait, they didnt try and balance it all they just completely changed it to the point that its useless,
it is useless because it is worse than speedy kits
it is worse than speedy kits because most the KR effects are dmg mitigation which good use of swiftness in combat can grant you anyways and on half the CD.

The trait simply needed to be moved up the tree and an individual specific CD given to each ability, even if they still changed the effects this still should of been the way to go.
What Anet did was lazy

When you want to pull someone to start a fight you will now pop a useless Super Speed and put all your KR effects on CD.
When you want to switch to medkit to use stimulant for swiftness when running you will now pop a useless Magnetic Aura and put all your KR effects on CD.
When you switch to the Ranged kit Grenades you will drop a tiny useless mine at your feet and put all your KR effects on CD.

Seems pretty lame to me.
