Agree with OP.

I understand that Anet was trying to make the KR effects more utility rather than offensive, which if fine for a 10 point trait.
I would even say that the new effects are all pretty nice, none seem worthless like the old medkit.
What I dont understand is the horribly long shared CD?
If anything the previously added ICD should have been removed from EG & FT.
Engineers gave up some high damage/condition removal KR effects for straight damage mitigation, the only exception is Bombkit which could be used as an opener but not really since it takes a few seconds to go off.

What a horrible patch

I don’t believe any Dev actually plays an Engineer beside testing out the QQs they receive from other professions.

Seems to me like besides Medkit and Bombkit they nerfed the effects of KR then on top of that added restrictions on those new effects that would have been harsh even on the pre-patch ones.
Just think if they didnt change the effects of KR, 100nades would still have been dead after these CD restrictions.

It isn't all bad.

Yeah if only take the EG and time it just right every 20 seconds you can immob a whole group of ppl.

Then you will die because all you have is the EG.

I commend you for being optimistic but imo this change is just about one of the worst yet because it cleary shows Anet has no direction or clear idea of what they want to do with the Engineer.

Bump.

Well we now have a trait that causes Engineers to work against their own profession mechanic that is Kit Swapping.
A 20 sec global CD on a on-swap effect?
Lots of arguement threads going on about it and I think it is rather justified.
Kit Refinement is now nothing more than an afterthought trait that no matter what kind of build you try will never be as influencial to the build as it was before.
You cannot plan anykind of strategy around an effect that has an inivisible 20 second CD and is activated by switching to the Kits that are designed to be constantly swapped.

They basically added restrictions that would have been befitting of most the old KR effects but then changed those KR effects to lesser skills that would of been befitting of the old KR restrictions.

See this is exactly why I think Devs should have documented playtesting of all professions so they can easier explain the bizarre choices they make.
I honostly cannot even imagine how anyone who has played the Engineer even casually would have thought this was a good change to make.

We might as well just get a restriction to only be able to have one kit slotted and it is on a 10sec CD between swaps. Then we can get 50% increase to damage on all of our kits since they are now our secondary weapon AND take up a utility slot.
Or we can just stick with the dmg tax on weapons and kits because of the potential versatility and than the versatility tax on all of our traits because of the potential comparable damage.

Also the Elixir S bug isn’t fixed.

Prediction.

A few changes will be very build altering.
Most changes will be trivial or just bug fixes and tooltip cleanup.

Ranger will get overbuffed and become the the FotM profession.

Mesmer will get an unbalancing skill that makes them even more of an essential WvW profession.

Thieves will see a large decrease in numbers when they realize that they cannot gank nearly as easily without culling help.

Culling will be removed causing large spikes in lag for most players that refuse to turn down their gfx settings.

WvW will be reduced to large skill lagged zerg fights tht consist of 70% Necros, 10% Mesmers, 10% Guardians then a mixture of Rangers and Eles.

After a few more months the WvW population will drastically decrease due to massive unplayable lag. The only players left will be the hardcore ones that turned all their settings to low and selected the “See nameplate only option”

WvW will turn into invisible nameplate fighting.

To lower the upkeep costs of the game Anet will start reducing the amount of other in game gfx and models.

Xmas time of 2013 the majority of GW2 players will have left and bought a PS4 or Xbox 720 and WvW now has an option to change all game gfx’s to dots and lines.

A cult forms with 50 members who do nothing but play WvW 13 hours aday on the same team and spend the whole time killing yaks, or to them, the Grey Dots.

Justin Beiber mistakes a newly released prisoner on vacation for paparazzi and punches him, Justin Beiber is subsequently basstaped to death.

Toughness isnt the only factor between Armor classes, at some point all the traits and skills being developed for the Engineer were being done with the thought of being a tankier class, which would also have so be a separate or hybrid role from Warrior and Gaurdian.

So we were gonna be the control Heavy.
Like how FT was meant to be a stability granting CC machince that pulled and pushed ppl around.

I don’t know if it really had anything to do witht the way the profession was designed there is just alot of things I see that seem like they are designed counter being heavy and slow rather than assist someone with the same armour weight as dancing thieves.

And since the easiest trade of for increasing/decreasing damage is increasing/decreasing defense I kinda figured alot of our mediocre damage on certain skills is leftover from the Heavy phase.

But I should also say that Engineer is the best profession by far and I can’t even manage to play my alts for very long before logging-out to character selection.
Bleh, I switch weapons and then I am stuck with that weapon for like 10 secs, LAMENESS.

I think many of the Engineers shortcomings, odd combinations and general vanilla weakness comes from being orginally planned and halfway balanced as a Heavy Armor class.
Your theory is a good one, I’m guessing Rifle, FT, Turrets+TK were all part of the orginal Heavy type Engineer.
I think more than likely when Grenades were added to the mix thats when the changes happened. If we were Heavy with 1500 range AoE, the Grenades would really have to suck, to increase/keep the effectiveness they ultimately lowered our armor.

If Grenades had originally been balanced for a Heavy class they would have been much weaker to start off with, much like the FT, Turrets and TK were/are.

All is lost according to the vision. The Enemy is petrified with defeat. The Enemy’s weapon lowers and all but falls.
The Enemy is finally resigned to accept fate and patiently awaits the coming destruction.
The Engineer begins his advance, starting with a few posion darts that zing past either side of the Enemy, just a poke and sample of what is to come.
Its as if time slows down and the Enemy sees that small red and yellow vial rise up to the Engineers lips, once drank, it is all over.
The vial tips and down goes the Engineer, down into the daisies, down into the weeds, down into the pebbles.
All that is left is for the tiny Engineer to deliver his pintsized smack of doom.
But……..whats this……the Engineer seems stuck…..running and drastically lower speeds…..the Engineer’s face shows a utter look of confusion that is only matched by the confusion written on the Enemy’s own mug.
Before the enemy can react the Engineer is whole-sized again but only half the distance to the Enemy.
A small fraction of time passes as the two stare at eachother.
Then before the Engineer can raise a gear shield the Enemy lets loose of all that was held back.
The Engineer is downed and the Enemy strolls up to the Engineer brimming with confidence, for the Enemy, like most, know that once you get an Engineer down victory is all but certain.
Almost casually the Enemy pops stability to avoid the Engineers last meager attempt at prolonging life and as if an afterthought plants a spike right through the Engineers heart.

All the swirling rush of emotions that once consumed the Enemy give way to a singular feeling, complete and utter wonderment.
For the rest of days the Enemy remembers this duel, sometimes in the sweet thoughts of glory but mostly in dissapointment.
Dissapointment that the Enemy’s greatest victory will be forever marred because the Engineer, the Great Adversary, the Insurer of Doom was hindered by a small oversight that was left unchecked for far too long.
And for the rest of days the Enemy visits the sight of the great clash.
And each time the Enemy visits, out of unwavering respect, down among the daises, the weeds and the pebbles, the Enemy scratches these words;

“FIX THE kitten CAMERA BUG ALREADY PLEASE”

The End.

I air dodge alot. they never knew what didn’t hit me.

The great tactics of air dodging as told in the age ole tale,

The Engineer and The Enemy.

They Enemy lines up a shot, so confindant in the Engineer’s coming destruction.
The seconds tick by as the Enemy basks in the glory of the skills that are about to open up on the small statured foe.
Then all of a sudden a dodge flip.
WTF the Enemy cries, was that a mistake? did the Engineer dodge too early?
The Enemy’s heart beats quicker, the adrenaline rushing to the brain. and certain other places.
Its getting harder to control the excitement of the soon to be victory.
Then another dodge flip.
A small tickle of nervousness comes over the Enemy.
Did the Engineer make another mistake? Dodging invisible enemies? maybe we are not alone?
Panic begins to build, the Enemy begins to sweat, excitement is slowly morphing into fear, fear of the unknown.
The Enemy takes a few breathes, trying to remain calm, reassuring thoughts begin to emerge.
I have got this! This little Engineer is Toast! Dodging too earlier! I will be the winner!
Just as the Enemy is about to reach the level of confidence needed to take that final plunge and unleash vicious attack the Enemy sees a small bottle fly from the Engineers hand and go crashing to the ground.
What did the Engineer just drink? Was that purple liquid?
Then it happens, the actions that send the Enemy into such a great spiral of uncertainty the Enemy would be lost in a dizzy fog of confusion.
A Double-Dodge roll!
The panic and fear that was once so small inside the Enemy grow into a loud roaring monster.
Its deafening roar from inside the Enemy chases away all confindence and thoughts of glory.
The Enemy is now a bastion for dread, the Enemy’s legs begin to liquify, hands shaking, mouth frozen in a gruesome parody of a smirk.
It is only in these final moments that the Enemy realizes, he was dead after the first dodge.
When the Enemy believed that the Engineer was fighting nothing the Enemy failed to see the truth.
The truth that the Engineer was really fighting the air that was between them.
A battle that would ensure the victor of all future victories, for by defeating air you have already defeated everything else.
With this realization burning in the Enemy’s mind, the Enemy is stuck frozen amonst the air that is now the Engineers beatch.
The Enemy stands and awaits fate, fate that will surely spell defeat.
The Enemy feels the Engineers attention turn, feels the Engineers keen focus shift.
In this last second its as if Death himself has come to show the Enemy’s fate, a small glimpse into the immediate future shows the inevitable outcome.
The Enemy sees two futures side by side like some strange spilt-screen video game demo of what is to come.
One future shows the Enemy release an attack in a fit of panic but just as all thh fury is about to strike the Engineer, the Engineer disappears?
No.
Looking down, down among the daisies, down among the weed, down among the pebbels he sees the now tiny Engineer laughing in glee before advancing to end the Enemy.
The second future shows the Enemy manage a great feat of restraint and holds back attacking, once again in anticipation the Engineer “drinks me” and advances through the weeds, pebbles and daisies toward the Enemy.
Not fully lost yet the Enemy has a moment of clarity, I shall wait untill the Engineer is tiny no more! Then strike! A small bead of confindence releases itself from the Enemy’s forehead and trickles down, eventually falling to the dirt.
The enemy starts to count 1……2……..just as the Enemy is about to get to 3 and unleash his attack on the newly right sized Engineer he sees a small flash of metal.
NOOOO is the last thought to go through the enemies head before the Engineer’s Prybar does.

Well I guess you can be squishy in PvE if you want to, I don’t like going full GC because I fight multiple mobs alot when I am soloing so it sucks when you make a mistake and get your kitten kicked.

Also if you are new to the game and new to mmo’s in general like the OP states then itd be a good idea to have more protection at the cost of taking a little longer to kill mobs.

I think the OP is talking about roaming in PVE.
In which case you don’t want to be squishy, you can add in some zerk or ramp if you want but youll also want a nice mix of some toughness/vit.
I would also suggest using all the different weapons (well the 3 anyway) since each one offers very different playstyles so you will want to try them all to see which one you like best.
I have been playing Engineer since release and I am still switching around my builds and weapons at least once a week.
Engineer has alot of fun options that are very different gameplaywise, so even if we are still on the weaker end of the spectrum in a lot of areas I can say I have never had a dull moment playing an Engie.

Whenever I find myself in a wierd build that doesnt have good condition cleansing I try to see if I can at least work in Medkit. Than I take the food that has 100% to remove condition on heal skill. Think its Poultry Soup or something.

Usually I can make due with those 2 just have to be careful.

I think SD is a nice all around dmg enhancer and also AoE tag, it is put to best use with low CD TB skills so it can be spammed but ppl tend to also go GC with tht and use it more like an instant nuke in which case low CDs don’t really matter unless you are fighting multiple ppl solo.

In small grp fights its been fun for me to do 2 step CCs to enemies tht your allies are focusing on. Like Overcharge Shot+Net Shot or Magnet Pull+Net Turret and PBR+TB Net, so this along with kiting whoever is attacking you with Box of Nails and Jump Shot escapes (or glue shot for pistolas) and you will do a good job controlling the fight.
For me it usually ends up really annoying players into focusing on me which is a huge advantage to get ppl to shift focus, if you have good allies around you they will get alot of free hits in with you around and you will pass around alot of vulnerability.

Thing is CC Engineer loses alot in big fights since CC doesnt damage much and you will give up alot of survivability in utilities. You can still be useful but more just as another member running in circles and dropping w/e you have when you can, in which case SD comes in handy to tag more foos.

1v1 can be tough but for me it got easier when I just decided to sort of play defense and try and hit them with a combo and knock them away, like Net shot ->Jumpshot ->Blunderbuss->Overcharged Shot
Then kind of kite them for a little bit and dodge
then
Net Shot(TB if needs be)->PBR
kite again.

You can always try and get extra attacks in here or their and I had the most success with 1v1 by playing a little defensive to get them to show you their tricks and try and space enough time inbetween my 2-3 step combos so that I always have one open or close by. Once you wittle them down enough or they make a mistake drop Supply Crate and head in to finish them off.
You have to be a little more cautious with CC heavy builds since they don’t leave you much bite to match your bark.

Yeah if only their was a game that had a mode specifically designed for GvG battles.
It wouldnt focus on little 5-10person team PvP or try to make some wierd MOBA hybrid.
It wouldnt create overly huge maps with up to 166man teams that are entirely focused on encouraging everyone to just fight in one huge group at 3FPS only using autoattack because of skill lag.
It wouldnt have a point system that does little more than reflect which servers have the most players playing most of the time and actually should discourage GvG because they are all ppl how are not benefitting the gamemode that they are playing in, the same as ppl how want to 1v1 duel in hotjoin matches.

No it would have smaller better focused maps designed around GvG battles 20v20,30v30…etc.
These maps would promote teamwork and strategy along with providing opportunities for full scale battles.
It would be called GuildBattles or WarforGuilds or Guildwarfare………………..hmm………..I know there has to be a better name for a game where Guilds goto War……………………………GuildClub

Engineer might stacking working as intended?

in Engineer

Posted by: CriSPeH.8512

CriSPeH.8512

Engineer weapons are weaker because we can use kits.
Kits are weaker because they have a 1 sec CD.
Overall our skills are generally weaker because they were orginally intended for a Heavy Armor class.
So to make up for this weakness we either have to stack might or play the keyboard piano to make sure we are constantly using all the skills we have gained by having kits on a 1 sec CD.

We are not naturally defensive because all of our defense comes from active skills and most those active skills also interupt or don’t allow weapon use for their duration so to defend we lose DPS. If anything we are natural avoiders since we have many options to nullify bursts.

However playing any build without kits will leave you at a disadvantage damagewise because of the aformentioned dmg taxes. So stacking might is required to be able to play at relatively the same level as other classes.

The OP is half right that when compared to alot of other classes, especially Thief being a fellow medium armor, that stacking might and/or using 30pt Grenades is one of the few ways to deal reliable mid-high dmg.

There are many ppl who can claim exception but I bet it will come down to gamer skill rather than actual profession options. Maska is the best example of this, you can copy his build to the letter but most ppl wont be as successful as him because he is a very good gamer not just a good Engineer.

I don’t think the huge-laggy-whole-map-population-zergs were intended by Anet they are just like the OP said a byproduct of their game design.

It always reminds me of Claw of Jormag.
Here Anet attempted to create a large scale dynamic event, with various enviromental weapons, Boss stages and strategies to take the dragon down successfully. The 3rd stage was truly inspiring by shifting focus from just attacking to guarding and guiding Bomb-Carrying Golems down to the Dragon to stun him so everyone is free to rush in a do 10x more damage then they would otherwise. Anet did all that to sculpt a unique and fun teambased dynamic event.

In the end though, time and time again, everyone would rather just sit up on the little hill and spam autoattacks while taking 5x longer to kill him.

It is very sad when players want to spend more time playing like bots and doing things in the simplist way possible than actually trying to experience the game they are playing.

Really it seems like for most of the Engineers damage comes from traits or gimmick playstyle.
Static Discharge is using all TB skills in quick succession to accomplish a nuke.
Same with KR Barrage.
And yes there is a reason that every P/P Elixir build requires HGH, otherwise you would hit like a gnat, instead of a gnat with 15 stacks of might.
I would say the Rifle does pretty good damage but it comes at the price of a selfstun and a slow animated jump shot.

The upside to all this is when you defeat other ppl you can really feel good about yourself for outplaying them.

I use Net Turret with my Gadget SD build and its the one time I’ve found PBR to be very usefull.
The idea being that you do a reverse rotation of the usual.
So PBR or Overcharged Shot then Net Turret as they are lying on the ground, this will ensure you land the Net and get the Vulnerability stacks and set you up for a Jump Shot.
Also Magnet pull then drop Net Turret works very well.

- Turret placement cooldown reduced to 5 seconds when picked up.

This is too short and would result in (forgive me for borrowing slang from WoW) turret twisting. People would pick up and drop turrets to force attacks. Net Turret attack every 5 seconds? Yes please.

The cooldown between firing wouldn’t change, only your ability to re-place them.

^Yes.
Turrets should work more like a placeable kit.
You place the Turret and can pick up and move the Turret on a very short CD.
The Turrets firing rate and Overcharged skill would all remain on a separate CD.
Turrets would repair while you have them picked up.
If a Turret is destroyed, than it goes on CD before you can place it again.

This would allow us to move our Turrets.
More strategically place and pickup Turrets to try and keep them alive.
And has much easier options to synergize with new traits in the same flavor that our kits do, Turret Refinement maybe? Speedy Turrets? any other “On placing Turret” type of effects.

Good Idea.

I don’t assume that I can develop a game better than anyone.
There is absolutly no reason why Devs can’t give an equal amount of time to all the professions in the game. Whether it is the actual developers playing them or whether they are delegating other ppl to play the professions and give feedback. I’ll do it Anet can Hire me for fairly cheap and I will do nothing but play all the professions an equal amount of time.
You say that by playing all the professions they wont have time to do their job.
I am saying that playing all of the professions is and should be a very important part of their job.

I am not even saying that the way the Devs have gone about bug fixing is wrong so far.
There is no subscription for this game and I don’t buy gems, so I paid my $50 and I already feel like I have gotten my moneys worth when compared to other games I have bought.
So any bug fixing or improvements/unimprovements are just bonuses to me.

I am simply suggesting that by giving an equal devotion to playtesting every profession and having the results public for players to see will drastically cut back on all the QQ everytime something is changed.
It will also give better public insight to the Devs thought process about how the invision their game.

Instead right now everyone is wondering how the hell the Devs decided to devote more time to creating new and self-proclaimed OP skills for the Mesmer.

You keep all of your skills.

So hurray we have a skill that reflects projectiles and is RNG for no good reason, just prolly raising the CD because we have 2 effect options instead of just one.

So good job making your stupid RNG redundant.

CriSPeH.8512

Engineers are what happens when you have a Heavy Armoured class that the Devs are having trouble balancing. So they just downgrade to Medium Armour and let pass.

90% of the Engineers problems come from being centered around having higher armour.
That is why Engineers are so hard to play, all of their Survivability comes from user-activated skills whether its blocks, dodging or invulnerable.
Our invulnerable skills arent ground covering and they remove our skill bar. (unless you requip a kit while invulnerable for 1-2 “free hits”.

When you see the vids of Elite Engineer players like Maska or TankCat you can see how much good blocking/dodging and mostly knowing when to disengage and re-engage factors in to how well they do.

Even going full PVT with Toughness you are still too squishy for the amount of time we have to stay at close range.

Engineers are an awesome concept and Anet gave a good try but just play any other profession and you will see how much easier it is while earning much better results.

So sad.

They changed it with a reason that was something the lines of: “The Flamethrower is being used as a control weapon now, and that’s not what we had it intended for, so we have changed it to another but worse controll spell”, okay the last part about what they changed it into they didn’t say, but that’s pretty much what they did :P

Yup seems right.
Everyone was using the FT for a utility control kit so they nerfed it by removing an AoE Pull (if you didn’t get a chance to actually use this, IT WAS AWESOME) and replacing it with an insult to Engineers.
Now oddly enough they are talking again of how more kits need Utility of damage, ie Grenade Kit.

So don’t be surprised when KR Barrage gets replaced with:
Smoke Grenade
a single grenade drops and blinds nearby enemies once.

But Mesmers are getting some new definatly OP skills.
Dev Fanboys.

Hows the aoe nerf going to affect Engineer?

Ummm, what? Net Shot (Rifle 2) is Aoe? Elixir Gun auto-attack is AoE? and I would almost call Poison Volley AoE by the way it spreads. The way I see it we are pretty low of the list of professions being hit by this.

I may play this all wrong however, I’d like to hear more on both sides of this.

All of Bombkit is AoE
All of Grenade Kit is AoE
All of FT is AoE
All of Pistol is AoE (maybe minus Poison Darts)
Half of EG is AoE
All of Kit Refinement Effects are AoE
All of the Engineers comparable burst options are AoE

I would say AoE nerf would affect us pretty good. Most professions in GW2 have alot of AoE focus but usually with an option for single target DPS. We don’t really have a Single Target DPS option.

Bump. Fix the Bug Anet.

sidenote:
Every Dev should have 8 public characters, 1 for each profession.
They should play all of those characters an equal amount of time and post all of the results.
Then they could easily identify and/or justify the various discrepancies and bugs through their own experience.
So when they Nerf things like KR Barrage they can point out how they are doing it because they were able to get easy unfair kills using it.
And everyone will say “Yes, I can see that, you are right”

or we can keep having all the “WTF ARE YOU DOING” threads.

The thing that finalized my decision to start playing more Simcity was them picking out the Engineers Grenade Burst and saying that IT specifically needs to be toned down. They did not mention bursts in general or say that any profession being able to 1-shot or instadown ppl was not intended.
So while many other professions can go Full GC and gear & trait to do similar or better Bursts than our BarrageX2 the Devs have solely been focused on limiting ours.

Devs fully acknowledge that with culling for the last 6 months Thiefs(somewhat Mesmers) have had an unintended unfair advantage with stealthing, yet nothing has ever been put in place to try and even temporality fix this problem.

But when it comes to the other Medium Armour profession that has to pull off their burst in plain sight without the help of invisibility it is seen as something Overpowered and Unintended.

I am not going to waste too much more time on a game that is being developed and balanced by basically “Fan Boys”. I try to play sPvP but every time the maps are just dead, yet that is the whole focus of Anet.
To make their MOBAMMORPG model work.

I will instead play more stupid Simcity with its always online garabage and numerous bugs because despite all those its an awesome game.

Since we were supposed to be Heavy Armor it could be nice if having Turrets raised your armor level. Maybe you could inherit the Turrets Toughness while you are carrying it then lose that Toughness while they are deployed. So going Full Turret would basically make you close to a Heavy Armored class.

@Leadfoot

Then they should have raised it to GM traits, if they thought it was too low.

Most of our good traits are Adept. I think they rushed Engineer since they were not supose to be in the game. Our tool traits order is mixed up.

Right now 3 of our best tool traits are Adept : Speedy kit, Kit Refinement(maybe not anymore) and Static Discharge.

Master trait we also have Toolkit trait, but other then that.

Both our Grand Master trait are lack luster, they are weaker then most traits in Tool. Switch the 50% endurance with kit refinement.

Now you need 2 GM traits to make 100nade work. And KR can be powerful because it is a GM trait.

^That’d be the smartest way.
The Dev specifically said that KR was too strong for a 10 Point Trait not just too strong in general.
So making it a GM Trait would be the easiest and least intrusive method of fixing the Trait.

Instead it seems they are going to try and come up with some type of support utility effect for KR, because if an Engineer needs anything it is more Support Utility.

So sadd, so saddd indeed!

Hmm.
Not sure if you are being sneaky or just honost.
They are the exact same effect just the wording is different.

Why the Engineer Trait cost 30 and the Ranger Trait 5?
No Idea!
Maybe its because players that can stay at range and have the aid of a pet need to dodge more than the medium armoured class that has to stay within mid-melee range!
…………………………………………………………………wait that can’t be…………….hmmm

Poor Engineers!
A Dev finally responds to a post in the Engineer forums and we quickly dilute the thread with pages of paragraph arguments in such high hopes that they are still reading and taking into account what is being said.

The Dev only responded to try and cover-up his mispoken advice about using the Thumper TB skill to defend yourself when you turret is down. (The one skill that would equal the patheticness of the Medkit KR proc if it was not for the blast finisher)
He apparantly meant that using the overcharge skill to knockdown all enemies around once is what makes up for the loss of everything you lose for taking a turret.

Such high hopes for change when all that happened was a Dev politician was trying to cover for giving a bs answer to a question he didnt really know.

I would only recommend MF gear if you are gonna go fullout MF and then farm events.
That is the only way I see MF gear as useful.
Its not worth it to try and get a little bit or have a small percentage.
Just get as much MF gear as you can along with buffs/banner/food then go run Pent/Shatt Event train for an hour or so.

If Engineers are versatile because we can swap to (a) kit(s) on a 1sec CD,
and we receive a damage tax because of this,
and we have a trait that utilizes that versatility,
and that trait already has individual CDs for its effects,
why do we get a ICD on those effects also?
Our profession mechanic is versatility through swapping kits (Anets words)
Yet that mechanic and everything affecting that mechanic has caused us to be weaker overall.
Is it the more versatile we manage to be the more we will recieve restrictions on using that versatility?

And the camera bug is still happening!

CriSPeH.8512

^yes.
Unfortunatly the FT in GW2 is not the weapon to go charging in with.
Switch to FT when you get someone downed or your weapons are on CD, use it for to drop down a Flame Wall, Knockback a melee and get a Flame Blast Detonate.
Only use Flame Jet to tag enemies or slowly burn a downed enemy.
When you get stunned switch to FT to use smoke.
Spam Flame Jet when running through zergs to tag lots of enemies.

Lord Aargadon is right, FT is more about utility than damage.

Also FT used to go great with Grenade Kit, but KR was an integral part of the pair.
So with the FT ICD the combo is kinda ruined.

They created the problem when they smoked too much pot than decided to make the Kit Refinement Trait.

The Good
Toolkit – Box o Nails – Perfect. What a perfectly balance KR effect.
The Bad
Bomb Kit – A single bomb – So a rehash of the dodge trait.
Med Kit – Small Explosion – ??? Is this a placeholder?
The Ugly
Grenade Kit – Barrage – Really!? the KR effect is the kits most powerful skill?
Elixir Gun – Super Elixir – Once gain Really!?

They screwed the pooch and the Engineer that owns the pooch when they came up with this lopsided trait in the first place. Everyone had to expect it to get the ax at some point. The reason they didnt was because they also thought that certain other professions that have an even easier “1click burst” would also get the ax, and when they didnt, it was safe to assume that Engineers were safe.

Why would you eliminate 1 professions burst combo without eliminating other professions that can do the same thing? They mention that it is because of the 10 point Trait, but really Engineer Traits are much more important than other professions because we have only one weapon.

Its 3 per pulse.
Pulsing 10×.
Potentially you could hit up too 30 targets with a single attack.
You wont hit them hard but still.
Its 3 because its a pulsing skill which is different than AoE skills.

Yeah glad to see all the optimism.
Its unfortunate to see what the Devs thought process is, they clearly do not know or care about the actually flaws of the Engineer and are more interested in the most popular QQ about a single aspect of the profession.

Really? Barrage+Barrage is TOO powerfull? A burst that requires you to be ontop of the target and FULL GC to pull of the numbers they spit out. 24k give me a break. A Thief can do that with a macro key, then stealth speed stomp you and wait to do it again. Its AoE sure but to its own detriment, that just means if there are other mobs/pets/enemies around that your damage will be diluted between all of them.

I don’t want to complain too much since this is a sub free game and I already feel like I have got my moneys worth out of it. Nerfing KR will do nothing more than kitten ppl off for a week or 2 then they will find another backasswards way to combine our mess of skills and traits into some new combo for ppl to complain about instead of figure out how to counter.

Devs I don’t think you are giving equal and just attention to all aspects of your game, you spend much more time and effort on the key classes that every MMO has and fail to fully refine the class you decided to rush in at the last minute. You mention for a 10 point Trait KR is too powerful but neglect the fact that you would need 30 points in explosion to get such high damage with barragex2. You seem to be more worried about addressing the weekly QQs than you are about finally bringing all your games professions up to release ready.

I am assuming you are talking about WvW where confusion is ridiculous, in sPvP Mesmers don’t seem to have quite the same ombf.
I wouldn’t recommend running a build specific to killing Mesmers.
Alot of Mesmers are like Thieves and will run when they think they are gonna go down.

The best strategy I have found with Mesmers is the same one I use for Thiefs, which is to draw them in with pokes and to get them to use their burst, either block/stunbreak/x2Dodge roll or w/e and then they will be highly vulnerable and you can attempt to down them, but once again Thief/Ele/Mesmer have some very helpful and easy to use escapes that can also cover alot of ground quickly, so expect them to run away.
