Warrior isn't as enjoyable as I thought

The thing with Warrior (please note, only in my personal opinion!) is that it’s fun to “smash face” every so often, and when I just want to sit back and watch big numbers but not have to really engage in any way, then Warrior is fun to play. However, that doesn’t keep me entertained for long, and then I start to find the Warrior boring (note, this may or may not apply to dungeons, where you do need to pay more attention).

Other classes that require more engagement to play well, such as Thief, Elementalist or Mesmer are more enjoyable for me when I’m looking to get absorbed in the game.

But this all depends on what you, personally, find fun in a game – what are you looking to get out of it? If you like big numbers and killing things as quickly as possible, then Warrior is great once you level up a bit. If you like to put a bit more thought into how you spec your class and experiment with different skills, you may prefer a different class. If you like pets, Ranger or Necromancer (with minions) might be your cup of tea. If you like laying waste with conditions and massive AoE, Necromancer, or if you like mobility and dashing in and out while having low health then Thief or Elementalist could be what you are looking for. Engineer offers great experimentation with builds, Mesmer has illusions, blinks, loads of reflect etc. It’s just about how you want to play.

If you have the character slots, I’d suggest trying out a few to level 20 and seeing what you prefer (or just keep deleting and re-rolling). It doesn’t take long to get to 20 and by that time you may have a better idea about what style of play you prefer.

You don’t need it if you have a good setup with your keybindings. Regular old keyboard and mouse will do. However, I personally find that it helps me a lot having a gaming mouse (regular keyboard) – twitch reflexes are obviously a lot faster if you have everything all in one place, but like I said, if you have a good setup on your keyboard, then that will work fine for you (I just prefer spreading out my skills between my left hand and my mouse).

Character Creation - new options

While I would love to get all these new options from the hairstyle and makeover kits in the character creation screen, I am totally on board with ANet keeping them as paid for items. I wouldn’t ever reroll a character beyond level 20 just for cosmetics, but I do love changing my chars’ appearances, so I’d say they make far more money out of me this way.

I’d go with Necromancer and staff for the aoe. Easy to place, easy to hit stuff and no need to be too accurate. You also have Death Shroud to pop into to help you through some rough patches if you find you missed a dodge or two. While in Death Shroud, you also have skill 5, aoe torment, basically, which will make life pretty sweet in PvE.

If you ignore minions (I personally never use them) and go wells, you can also dish out damage or help yourself out in a general aoe, massive damage way by using wells. If you struggle even with the aoe indicators, you don’t pick up the trait which makes wells ground targeted. Just place yourself roughly near whichever pack of mobs you want to hit and drop the well. Easy – and watch those numbers tick (I love it).

Don’t believe people who say Necromancer’s can’t work in dungeons. No, they don’t perform a role that another class can’t do equally well or maybe better, but you can still contribute meaningfully to a team. Use fears smartly (ie, fear enemies in groups to the wall/corner your team is stacking near to hold them in place but keep them from attacking themselves), use blinds, drop wells that convert conditions on allies into boons, use torment in Death Shroud etc. I run Necro in dungeons and do just fine (just steer clear of speed runners because there Necros really aren’t that useful).

Well, I have less time to play each day than you, and I think that it is difficult to “get into” a game with very limited playtime.

I am pretty easily entertained, admittedly, but I found that certainly my engagement with the game – that is, my desire to play and the realisation that I am having fun while playing rather than just spending time in game – ramped up exponentially once I found a guild I liked. They don’t mind that I don’t log on every day or that sometimes I can only log on for an hour in a particular week, and they’re always chatting, running dungeons, giving advice, grouping up to get map completion out the way etc.

So that makes a huge difference – and this is coming from a solo player.

The other thing I found is getting over my initial hesitations about WvW (I shy away from PvP at the best of times, but thought this might present a happy medium) opened up hundreds of hours of playtime for me. So maybe you might want to try testing out the other modes available to you. I’m even considering PvP now they’ve changed the way rewards work in that mode.

The most important thing I find for getting me back into the game is setting a goal. It doesn’t have to be a legendary or anything that seems like it’s too much for you. I decided at the beginning of the WvW Spring Tournament, for instance, that I really wanted a Mistforged Hero weapon skin and so spent hours upon hours (to the amusement of my guild) in WvW grinding out the achievements. I don’t even mind that my server isn’t even placed high enough to get me a skin because I enjoyed myself so much that I’ll be there next time ready to add to my token count. Or maybe you fancy the new backpiece skin that is rewarded for PvP? Just having a reason why you’re playing the game helps to get you started – sometimes “it’s fun and I just want to play” isn’t enough, and sometimes not enough people realise that.

But absolutely, GW2 is, more than any other game I’ve played, really a game where you have to create the boundaries for making your own fun. That can be a good or a bad thing, depending on who you are and what makes you tick. One other thing – don’t feel you HAVE to like it. If you’re anything like me, thinking you really should and ought to like something makes it harder to!

I’d go for the incinerator, personally, as more of your characters can use it and you’ll have more “uptime”. But, if Engi is your main to the extent that the others don’t get much playtime, just because you can show off your dagger on all of them won’t make a difference so you may as well just go with the predator.

I prefer the look of the predator, but I agree that with Engi you wouldn’t see it much. Still, depends on just how special your Engi is compared with your other characters.

Personally, I find the Thief to be a more engaging character to play.

Warrior is great for sitting back and just enjoying being pretty awesome by clicking a few buttons. No, I don’t get tired of it, but I prefer that in short bursts. I tend to switch off a bit while playing Warrior.

Thief, however, because it’s more than a little squishy and because I can be so active due to not having to mind about cooldowns, I find that I concentrate a bit more on setting up my approach to attacks, the attacks themselves, and what happens when there’s more than one mob. So generally I can play in much longer time spans with Thief without noticing.

That is literally the only thing I go on these days, lol – have partially levelled too many characters to really state what I prefer over the next.

Bank Full. Solution?

Ascended trinkets are easy to get so just break down you exotics. If you really, really need every single exotic armour then you are going to have problems with any option mentioned above.

I am not really sure what you mean

He means salvage/sell exotics and clear your banks for ascended gear only

I have played the game since a little after it was released. I have 2 ascended items…rings that I just had drop recently in WvW. I could buy a couple more jewelry items with Laurels…..armor and weapons? I can’t sell the exotics since they are used. Salvage gets me a piece of wood or something which does me no good.

Even WvW you get dailies. So rings/earrings/amulets can be gotten ascended variety. You also get a discount for ascended jewellery in WvW. Since you do not craft you will get very little to none ascended weapons or armour so if you need to keep them they are soulbound and can only be stored in your personal bank and used by 1 character. Those pieces of wood are worth a lot of money.

Yep, I complete my daily about 25 times during a month. I also finish the monthly. So I have about 200 laurels. I could buy a couple of rings or necks and have a slight improvement of stats…if I bought zerker stats though and wanted to go condi ..or healing…or bunker etc etc then those pieces would need to be stored.

The best answer I see is to use alts as storage. Which is what I will do. That answer was helpful.

good, as long as you realize that an alt cannot take soulbound equip from another character even from the bank.

Except soulbound items don’t exist anymore since the patch, and everything is accountbound now. So that particular problem is solved!

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CrossedHorse.4261

CrossedHorse.4261

Some things, I like. I love that we can refund trait points for free and that we don’t have to visit a trait trainer to do it. I don’t mind that the new GM traits are fixed behind world events or whatever. I don’t even mind that we have less points and level traits more slowly.

However, that’s sort of where it stops. I don’t know why they pushed back the point at which you start earning traits to 30. I DO know that my level 62 Engineer is just awful to play now and I am no longer keen to play her.

I also think that while unlocking your traits seemed like an ok idea in theory, though I wasn’t keen on it from the beginning, they seem to be stuck behind odd events that either depend on too many external factors to make getting the traits seem like nothing but a chore, or they’re stuck behind tasks like map completion in areas well above the level you are initially able to obtain that trait.

Yes, you can buy them with gold and skill points, but this goes completely against making levelling easier for new players. They’ve based this idea on old players, mostly ones who have probably been playing one main at 80 for over a year. How? Well, I seem to recall that levelling up (before account wide wallets – let’s assume a new player on their first character doesn’t have any other access to gold because that’s how it is unless they’re forced to take out their real wallet, which isn’t something they should be forced to do) I never had much money. My first character hadn’t even seen a gold by the time they reached 80. So, no money to spend on traits. I also never had many spare skill points. I like to experiment, so I unlock more skills than strictly necessary because I like to play with different builds. So no skill points either. MOST characters, unless they’re a main for someone for over a year at 80, don’t have 500 spare skill points lying around waiting to be used.

So all this really ends up doing for me, is completely restricting what builds I will play. I now have to look up the best Mesmer (as an example) build and work ONLY towards that, in order to either have the time and inclination to unlock a trait, or to have the skill points and gold to do it at the trainer. Basically, everything is such that I will only want to bother unlocking stuff that I KNOW will create a good build – any desire to experiment with different builds or diversify is gone because of the fear of wasting time, effort or money and skill points (which also will decrease the number of skills I experiment with). Cue a TON more cookie cutter builds, and the end of diversity, which was something I thought ANet wanted to increase.

I am an altoholic, but now I literally look at all my low level alts and want to delete them. SUCH a shame, as other things implemented this patch were things I loved, like the wardrobe, account bound dyes and WXP etc.

Basically, I find this game has finally pushed the “grindy” aspect to the point where I don’t want to tolerate it any more. I always argued against people who felt this game was becoming more and more like any other MMO, but I’m beginning to agree with those who insisted it was. I am really disappointed – this was the first game in a long time that’s ever held my interest for longer than a couple of months, and I really, really loved it. Now, I don’t even want to play my favourite part, levelling new characters.

Game Updates: Wardrobe, Transmutation, Outfits

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned, but it really bums me out that the item skins we have can’t be added to the vault without destroying, in essence, the free transmutation charge that it comes with.

Is there any chance we could maybe get a single transmutation charge when we add a skin to the vault? It would feel less wasteful, to me. And I could finally ACTUALLY clear out my bank…

Keep them as unlocked until you actually want to equip them. You can then “use” them as normal, and doing so will unlock the skin. If you select “store in vault” then it takes away the initial free use.

Others have answered the Elementalist summoned weapon thing – you get two. I think that’s good and it’s great to have an Ele around dropping weapons for others to use.

I do wish they’d limit who can pick up Banners however – not because I’ve ever seen anyone who shouldn’t have one running off with one, but because in the middle of a fight, I’m trying to loot, revive or whatever, and I keep picking up a Banner! I’m so used to spamming F periodically and ignoring it afterwards that sometimes I don’t even know I’ve done it until I wonder why my ranged attacks aren’t registering, then glance down and realise I’m waving a Banner around! I’d love it if only the summoner could pick these up again.

CrossedHorse.4261

I would love it to be a little darker – a sense of real threat, loss or difficult decisions needing to be made would go a long way with me.

I didn’t really feel invested in the last LS arc, except for which achievements I could reasonably hope to get, and that was a shame. I got more invested towards the end, because I felt the content got better, but I never really cared much about the story itself. The only part where I truly felt an emotional impact was at the shrine that appeared in LA after the invasion, and there was a little child’s note saying “I can’t find my Mummy and Daddy.” That really resonated with me. And, while I hope I don’t come across the wrong way when I say this – I would like to see more of that kind of stuff in the LS.

But, my personal wishes aside, just a better story would be fine, even if it was more light-hearted. I just need something I care about – I would like to log in because I’m keen to see where the story will go, what will happen. Not just to see what the next boss encounter will be like and whether or not I want the meta achievement. I’d like not to care about the achievements at all other than a form of side entertainment.

The thing that irritates me most about some commanders is them not realising that not everybody can hop on TS, and they fail to put any instructions or directions in /say or map chat. It’s frustrating to constantly see the commander disappearing with no warning because they’ve waypointed back to the citadel, then headed off without waiting for anyone to catch up. You don’t need to wait for 10 minutes for an entire zerg to join you, but keep a general eye on the numbers of people following you, and let some of them catch up to you before you run off again!

Also, the best commanders communicate with each other, checking on the other’s position, what they’re doing etc. They also takeover from each other smoothly and co-ordinate times they display their tags so people don’t get confused.

CrossedHorse.4261

Yeeeah. While we’re all waiting to see exactly how this wardrobe will work, Nerelith, did you watch the video in the link you added? The charges apply whenever you transmute a skin over another item (just like they do currently, only with out destroying part of both items). It’s not a charge to unlock, but to re-use.

I did watch the video on the Link I posted. And yes it did show charges being used, but we get no context. We do not Know if that is ONLY the first time that a charge was being used with a particular piece of armor. We do not know if it is the 10th. See the devil is in the details.

I have come to a new Understanding that could reconcile what is actually said by the developers that also accounts for that video.

You use a charge the very first time you apply a Given skin to a given piece of armor, and after that, you have unlimited use of that skin for that armor, so you can change either back to what you had before…or to any other armor skins you applied to that armor piece. That will reconcile all statements by all developers so far.

I do believe that at this point we will simply have to agree to disagree, since a video can be misunderstood, misinterpreted, which is the reason all i go By is what a developer actually says…Not what someone else thinks a video shows.

Since you are placing so much weight On the evidence of a video that lacks context. And I am placing weight on actual comments by actual developers… we will have to agree to disagree.

As long as all you are relying on is a video, I will always remain unconvinced.

Lol, well you know what? I really, really hope you’re right as that would make literally everyone happy.

We’ll have to wait and see. But – without getting overly emotional because nothing is confirmed yet – I have always preferred to err on the slightly more cynical side before confirmations happen. That way, I can always be pleasantly surprised

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

2. The fact that transmutation exists at all is fantastic and is one of the reasons GW2
is so progressive and awesome. We’re just saying that, while it’s better than other MMOs, the transmutation system is still flawed and is not enough for a game that claims to be revolutionary.

I just want to point this comment out…. I feel like this defines exactly why everyone is so unhappy: super high ultra expectations.

The bottom line is this: Anet needs to make money somehow, this is their way. Luckily, they are improving upon the system, so that even though they still make money, we get more. To be unhappy with it because “it isn’t enough” is actually sickening to me. Since when do we need to get everything we want? We’re getting something we didn’t need to have.

This is part of running a business. They have to be able to negotiate with their customers. Anet doesn’t need to be coddled they are perfectly capable handling their business. If what we are asking is just too much for them and they can’t do it then we are just at an impasse. No hard feeling no anger but it is just another thing too add to what is wrong (in our eyes) with this game.

Everyone wants to be able to change their looks around for free. What does that do to Anet? Cut their sales. What does that do for us? Cut our new content. Part of running a business is giving customers what they want without sacrificing the company for it.

part of running a business is figuring out how to monetize in a way that maximizes your profits. This system does not. i will point out again.
The only time this system increases profit over an unlock system is when a player uses returns to a previously used look. Under the current system, people almost never do that. For any look that they think they may use again, they create a new set of items to store that look.
Even that case is rare, because most people just only go with one look.

If i want to monetize 2000 of the prints of my pictures, one of the worst ways i can do it, is to sell them a service where every time the bring back one of my pictures, i give them a new print. People will almost never use/buy 1999 of my print. I may make money one time per 6 months. Instead of customer potentially buying 6 or 7 pieces of art, they buy 1, they keep it until i can make something that is so much better they pay again to switch.

not to mention, even in my example, i dont charge the initial item costs that the game charges to obtain the item the first time.

To be honest I’m not entirely sure you know exactly what anet’s business situation is. I usually respect you as a poster, but I honestly feel like you are assuming you know a lot more about the system than you do. Anet had options, they knew their options. They chose this system, one which the very vocal minority of the forums dislikes because of x reason or y. It doesn’t matter, though, because it’s what Anet chose.

Myself, and all of my friends I have discussed this with, are excited about the new system. They will buy more charges than they buy crystals currently. To the casual player, it isn’t about “I want account unlocks!” Or “anet is taking my money! Shame them into submission!” It’s about “wow, that cultural armor I bought for gold that took me a year to farm because I play casually will be added to my wardrobe so I can try new armor sets without feeling like I’m sacrificing anything significant outside of a couple dollars.”

I’m a casual player and I don’t think that favourably on it. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of it I like, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t expecting something a little different to what we’re getting.

Clearly ANet have reasons for making the decisions they do. I’m not questioning that, or even saying they’re bad decisions because I don’t know what they’re working with. The ONLY thing we, as forum users, can do, is say what we do and what we don’t like.

Right now, the changes are ok. However, I’m not feeling any more incentivised to change up my characters’ looks any more than I do now. Sure, I will a bit because I already do, but I’m not desperate to get into the wardrobe and start switching my gear around.

I AM, however, a bit of a collector. But I’m good at ignoring that urge. With a pay to use system, I am not bothered about how many greyed out spots I have in my bank collection – to me, I won’t use them anyway because I don’t want to pay the charges, so why bother collecting them when it’s pointless?

BUT, if it were pay to unlock, then free usage afterwards … I’d be trying to collect every skin in game. And that’s a LOT of skins, that’s a LOT of money. I am willing to put money on the fact there are a lot of other people who are collectors too – just look at the mini market.

No you won’t need manuals, characters that are created before the patch will have all major traits unlocked.

As for the trait points, you are confused,* pre-level 30 characters* won’t have any trait points at all and any points you already used before the patch will be removed. Keep in mind that you will have 14 traits now instead of 70.

see that part is confusing.
What he wants to know is if he creates a character now, but leaves it unleveled. …will have all traits unlocked..or not.

Andr from the blog, I’m don’t they will be.

I think the traits will be locked, but only in the sense that you are not yet at level to use them. Once you hit the right level, any character made before the patch will be able to select from all the major traits available at that level just as before (I believe, minus the book charge for tiers).

Any characters created after the patch will find that upon reaching a major trait slot, they cannot access the traits until they either pay gold and skill points or complete particular challenges/events/tasks in the open world.

Maybe I Misunderstand the system, My understanding is, Once an item is unlocked, you get unlimited uses of it, for the price of a transmutation charge. so the only fee i can see is… the first time he transmutes the item. I may be wrong.

That isn’t how it works. Putting a skin into the wardrobe is free. Getting it out of the wardrobe costs a charge. Every time he wants to get that hood, it will cost a charge.

Can you Post the dev post that shows this? because I looked over the video, and the impression I got was..Once you use a transmute charge… changing In and out of an item is free. If you could link the dev post I’d be appreciative, since you have read it from a dev Post.

Edit:

I felt this was Important to state, since everyone is going around saying that a person once they unlock a skin, has to pay a transmutation charge EACH time they apply it to a cnaracter’s armor or weapon. I can Understand how that might be the impression someone might get if all they did was watch the video But I also READ the rest of the post which I link here:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-wardrobe-system/?utm_source=client

I will also quote the relevant section that explicitely states that “Unlocked skins can be applied to items infinitely (for just one Transmutation Charge)”

Collecting Weapon and Armor Skins

For the Wardrobe, we’ve changed skins to an account-wide unlock system. Skins can be unlocked by using consumables, equipping items, salvaging equipment, or right-clicking on equipment and account-binding it. Items that you acquire that are already bound to your account automatically unlock their skin when they go into your inventory. Unlocked skins can be applied to items infinitely (for just one Transmutation Charge), which makes it much less stressful to try out a new look for your character, since you can always switch back!

Now, it IS Possible that you have access to more current Information from some developer post that is more recent than what was splashed a few days ago… if so, Please Link:-)

Here is the link you requested showing there is one Transmutation charge for each change of skin to armor/weapons. Unlocking the skins has no charge. =)

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/46419166-Wardrobe

I read that, and while it does state that when you " apply" you will be charged transmutation charges." it does Not say that it is as you said, where you need to pay EACH and EVERY time you apply a skin. While that link I gave you…does say explicitely.." Transmute ONCE and use INFINITELY."

So sorry you must have put a Lot of time actually hunting this down when it doesn’t prove what you believe, and what you wish to believe, simply because believing it suits your argument.

I think we need to actually wait for the 15th to see exactly How your link, and mine are consistent. Even though… Your Link can be consistent with my position.." use a transmutation charge once, and use it infinately after that." and also consistent with what the devs said. While my link is diametrically opposite to your belief, which is based On a misinterpretation of a demonstration video, a misinterpretation of a post that doesn’t go into detail, while giving a basic summary… and a desire to be right….even when a developer says the opposite of what you believe… even if it is just one line." use a transmute charge, and have unlimited uses. If you change your mind, just change it back."

Anyway, I do feel that while the statements made back up my belief more than yours, and their positions in one case actually contradict yours, I am willing to wait til the 15th to actually see How this fleshes out.

Lol. Sure, we will see. =)

Yeeeah. While we’re all waiting to see exactly how this wardrobe will work, Nerelith, did you watch the video in the link you added? The charges apply whenever you transmute a skin over another item (just like they do currently, only with out destroying part of both items). It’s not a charge to unlock, but to re-use.

Today, Lilith, TODAY, I will get my weapons! Finally.
(And, now we know the wardrobe is coming, only one of each skin!)

\o/ yay!

I opened up some keys today and got a full ticket…. I finally was able to happily buy a 1 handed weapon because I know I’ll get as many as I want, so yay tormented dagger!

Awesome! Trying to find the best time to sell the duplicate tormented skins I managed to buy.

It could be hard….

Something really interesting though, I bought two lovestruck pistols, and now I only need one. I opened up the bltp and the lovestruck pistols (but none of the others I looked at) are selling for 5g. That’s it. 5 freaking gold. So I’m keeping my second. Lol

Meh, they’ll sell regardless. I always wait until the cost goes up to the usual 5 BLT skins and then post a few weeks later. After the patch hits and ppl realise what they buy will be theirs forever, they’ll go up a bit. I’m not fussed about maximising profit, however – I don’t care if someone else sells something for a lot more than me.

Lovestruck weapons were not a great investment, yeah. I thought about it, but realised they’re a bit too niche (though I love them!). So I just got the ones I wanted for my chars and left it. Still, 5g is a massive crash from the 75g they were originally posted for. I wonder if those listings are still there …

If you bought 2 of the same armour skins… good news!

Now you can use the skins unlimited times, on any character you want, when ever, how ever, without having to buy new sets.

2 just multiplied, into 4, even 6, even 100 uses.

You’re looking at this the wrong way. Yes you bought 2 sets, now you’re getting unlimited sets, you’re not losing anything.

Stop being entitled, and think with logic.

I’m not being entitled. I specifically say that I’m not demanding a refund, but where’s the hurt in submitting my case to ANet and letting them decide? Huh? If they give me one, then they’ll have conceded I have a point, if they don’t, well then, they don’t. End of story.

My post was about it would be nice to be able to do SOMETHING with them rather than just trash them. I don’t care even if I could just give them away for free. Trashing them seems a waste – of my money and ANet’s time and effort making them. So please read the post before responding.

To the rest of your post, yes, you can use the item 100 times, infinite times. That’s not the issue. That is fantastic – something we all wanted. That is entirely not the point, and I think people misunderstand that in some of their responses when they just jump in to cry “you’re not entitled” and leave.

My ONLY issue with the way this works is that I paid for the skins intending to use them but didn’t, so, when I unlock them in future, do I still get that initial free transmute I essentially paid for (like you get currently)? If not, that does seem a bit unfair. I don’t mind paying to RE-USE them in future – that’s totally fine.

It would be nice if I can’t get a refund to at least be able to give my extra gem store armour and weapon skins away to my fellow guildies. They’re already all bought and paid for. But if the unlock system works the way it seems it will, I literally cannot use these skins anymore (it seems that on unpack/double-click these skins disappear from your inventory straight into your wardrobe and you access them from there – incidentally, that removes your initial free transmute, which having paid 800gems in the store … NOT happy, if that is the case, but that’s for another post) and it’s just such a waste. I HATE trashing items that don’t need it and especially that I’ve paid for.

I’m not demanding a refund from ANet, though I will be submitting a polite request for consideration and leaving the decision to them. But I AM saying that it is both a shame and a waste of good items for people just to be trashing them in large numbers.

How anyone who asked for a wardrobe could have thought that it would be free to use infinitely any skin you bought once, or received once, is beyond my comprehension. That’s my issue with this. And they’re even giving us ample time to farm those low level transmutation stones so that we can get free charges come April 15.

Because they based their experience of a wardrobe on the PvP wardrobe, where it IS free do use skins once you’ve unlocked them. And also, because that’s actually what people were asking for. They asked for a wardrobe where you could unlock all your skins across your account and apply them any time for free. So, when they saw that the wardrobe had been announced, they automatically assumed that it was what they asked for.

Whether or not people should be disappointed is clearly a subjective thing. But I can understand why people are.

Lol, I’m too busy being jealous of you to feel sorry for you, OP!

Truthfully, do you feel you need to do anything with this stuff? I look at the extra skill points I have (a pitiful 137) and don’t really care too much. Though clearly I am missing something because I’ve never found levelling THAT fast (yes, compared to other MMOs etc, but it’s not as fast as I’d like it to be).

But, right now, I’d sit on them and save them. I mean, there’s nothing really you want, so buying stuff just to buy stuff seems silly.

Well I would like to ask a question as well:
Will I be able to transmute the thief starter hood in let’s say.. My guardian helm? It would be awesome to be able to do that, I longed for the day I could use the hood on my other toons and I find the Heavy armor helmets way unappealing.
At least lifting the restriction from doing that with starter’s gear would be nice.

No, armours will remain restricted to their current weight classes.

The reason for the premature elation over this is because many people cannot read, or, to put it another way, people read only what they want to see.

When others come along, pointing out things they failed to comprehend, is when the disappointment sets in. They think something has been taken away from them when it wasn’t even there in the first place.

For me, I was not impressed when I first read the blog. At best, the wardrobe will free up a few bank slots; at worst it will make playing dress-up while leveling an alt more expensive.

I am currently leveling my 5th and last alt, a sylvari thief, and hit lvl 62 on Monday. I then bought a full set of medium T2 cultural, and used 6 trans stones to get the skins onto lvl 62 masterwork zerker armour. Come 15 April, this will cost 18 trans stones!!

Now I need to finish leveling this alt before 15 April, so I am not pleased …

…I don’t understand how this could cost you 18 stones. it will cost you 6. o.O Ah, you mean the free stones you get from mapping.

Yeah I just don’t see your argument.

Stones, rather than crystals. Transmutation stones will be converted to transmutation charges at a rate of 3:1, so each transmute on a lower level character that currently costs 1 stone, will cost 1 charge, which is the equivalent of 3 stones. So transmuting a whole set of armour will cost the equivalent of 18 stones for a lower level character.

Gathered that.

Since they are so readily available i really don’t understand people’s complaint, tbh. It’s nice that we are getting a conversion at all.

My opinion.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant you didn’t understand how it cost 18 stones.

I am reserving judgement on this until the patch because we don’t yet know that stones will continue to drop as they currently do. But I can see that people might be annoyed – 3 stones per map completed used to get you three transmutations on a low level character, now they’d only get you one. So people are discouraged from switching skins on alts until level 80 when they get the full worth of the crystals/charges. It does seem a little limiting in terms of changing up your look, when everything else about the wardrobe is so wonderfully geared towards giving you more freedom.

But, like I said, I’m reserving judgement for the time being.

I believe that as you enter the mists on patch day, your equipped items will be added to the main wardrobe. So then, if you go into your locker, you can right click on skins and add them to your wardrobe. (This is how I understand it). They are trying to combine the two game modes more, which is why this is happening.

Can’t help but feel a bit wary, since I have a couple dungeon skins in my pvp locker. Normally you’d have to play through the dunegon paths about 8 times to collect both, but I attained them through those pvp level chests by pure luck. It would feel so odd to wear those in pve since I got the dungeon skins for essentially free, with no hard work involved.

You still played PvP though, so SOME work was involved at least, lol. I wouldn’t worry about it – nobody’s going to be pointing you out or anything. If they make this change, just enjoy it!

New Wardrobe was not what I expected

I’m a little confused by this wardrobe, to be honest. Does the transmutation charge apply every single time you withdraw a skin? Or do you only need to apply it once per item (for each character) and can then withdraw that item as often as you please? I can live with the latter, but the former… would make me seriously consider quitting. I’ve been looking forward to a wardrobe for too long for it to be this restrictive.

For example. I’ve got the full Profane armor set on my Ele. I want to switch her look up now and again, so I plan to put together a mix of Sylvari T2/T3 Cultural and the TA set – Can I then switch between Profane and my mix-n-match set freely as long as I have transmuted them at least once?

The charge applies every time you withdraw a skin to use on a piece of gear.

If you want to keep a different set of gear with different skins on, then you can do so in your inventory, but if you want to keep the same gear and switch skins you need to pay a transmutation charge each time you switch.

Initially, I was really excited, and in that excitement, absorbed only the good things and only saw things positively. Not to mention the fact that I probably ignored things I think don’t apply to me – like town clothes. I’ve never cared about them (except the fuzzy quaggan hats), so I didn’t bother really registering what they had to say about that.

Then, as I read more posts from other people, I realise they raise things, both good and bad, I had initially failed to notice. So, the more I thought about it, the more I realised I am not all that incentivised to constantly switch up the look of my characters because of the transmutation charge. I don’t change their looks much now because of the charges, and they aren’t going away. Overall, I’ll also be throwing a lot less money ANet’s way because now I don’t need to buy multiple sets of skins each time they release in the gem store, and I can buy any BLT weapon skins straight off the TP once, so I won’t even really buy keys anymore either. I won’t bother changing the look of my chars under 80 because I think it’s not worth the triple the value of a stone – it’s not a complaint about the exchange ratio, just a personal feeling that it’s not worth it. I need never make a mistake in what armour I choose again, because I can preview to my heart’s content from the wardrobe, so if I’m sensible, I only need choose and pay once. So the more I think about it, the less exciting it seems.

Then I go back and read about the town clothes changes, and though I’ve never paid them any attention at all, I can see why people are upset at the changes. While I understand that making them available for use during combat may have necessitated these changes, I can still see that people are not happy being unable to mix and match, since that may well be the only reason they bought items in the first place.

Also, I have spent a huge amount of money on skins in the gem store, and while I am content to swallow the cost of the several duplicate skins I have in the bank, I am still looking at a loss of close to 10,000 gems over the course of the past two years, which isn’t insignificant. So to hear that 800 gems does not buy me permanent access for free to these skins, isn’t the best news (but by no means enough to make me sad about the wardrobe!) and it does tone down my initial excitement a bit.

I am still very excited about the dye system changes, however! But, a little apprehensive about the future cost of dyes, nonetheless.

However, I, and many others it seems, are concerned that changing the armour and weapon skins of characters below level 80 will, in the new system, treble in price, putting several people off the idea and potentially meaning people don’t even start experimenting with their look until level 80, which is a shame.

Experimenting is free. You also have access to every single skin in the game to preview, not only those in pvp locker, available at all times, even as a fresh level 1. You can preview everything without even having the skin unlocked and once you find what you like you use the charges to make it.

I agree though that lower level character won’t transmute, what’s the point of transmuting the skin on gear that you will exchange anyway?

I have a different suggestion as an addition to the wardrobe. Instead of applying the SKIN to the ITEM, apply it to the SLOT instead. For example, instead of applying my T3 Cultural Chest armor to my CoF Chest armor, I will apply it to my Chest slot.

That way, everytime I put ANYTHING on the chest area, it will get the stats of the new gear, but it will keep the looks. It would easily help with lower level characters, but it would certainly cause issues to higher level ones. Perhaps have both options available?

Well, yes, you can preview in the wardrobe, but it’s not the same as testing something out in-game. I quite often don’t really know what an armor looks like until I leave preview – for instance dye colours change, the look may grow on me over time etc. You aren’t wrong, but it’s not ideal.

Your suggestion makes sense if you want the same look across each gear type – it would certainly save you money. But what if people want each stat set to have a different look? I, for instance, have the flamekissed armour skin on my zerker gear, but the phoenix armour skin on my rampager’s gear. If I applied a look to a slot, I’d have to either pay to change the look each time I swapped (so no different to how it would work now), or have the same look for both sets.

I don’t particularly mind the transmutation charges (though I had hoped we’d pay to unlock once and then have the skin available for free at any time) but it’s just the increased cost to lower levels that irks a little – not enough for me to rage about, but if they could implement some sort of system like the one I suggested, I think it would satisfy the majority.
