Mesmer Mobility poll

Crossplay.2067

Again, I support turning blink into a 25% movement speed passive signet. It wouldn’t have to be nerfed because, while the cooldown is active, the movement speed isn’t. That is a fair trade off for losing a unique skill.

I’m against upgrading the focus or traits for what I know are bias reasons. I don’t like the focus. I know it’s a good weapon. The pull alone is great for telling invaders “attack me again and you’ll NEVAH finish this jumping puzzle!” However, I have to take a main hand weapon with it and I hate the options available. The scepter just isn’t my cup of tea and I’m not a fan of 1h swords because I do dungeons a lot. It’s very hard to see attack tells when there’s a char or norn warrior blocking most of the boss. And there’s almost ALWAYS one there! Standing back and letting the big guys act as meatshields is so much easier.

As for traits, I already have enough problems deciding what I want because there’s little consistency in the trait lines. The last thing I need is for a speed buff to be in some odd place that makes me give up something else and then have to set up the condition in which to give myself swiftness. Knowing my luck, it’ll be mantras and I just don’t use mantras. I hate the mechanics behind them.

In short, change blink. It’s easy and it would give us the “more reliable” speed we were assured.

Right now what you should be doing is finding out what works for you. Every single mesmer build is garbage if you don’t enjoy using it.

Mesmer condition build, for PvE and Dungeon

in Mesmer

Crossplay.2067

Condition builds aren’t that effective in PvE as most NPC’s don’t hit fast enough for them to be that viable.

Staff auto-attacks cause burning and sharper images causes bleeds on crit. Neither of these need the enemy to attack to work.

When do Mesmers become fun to level?

Crossplay.2067

I agree with a lot of what’s being said here. Mesmers have a pretty high learning curve but, once you master it, you’ll do things that others can only dream about. Some advice I can give you is to use your illusions as tanks and then defend them. Sometimes I start with a bezerker attack then close in on the enemy and use Illusionary Wave before they can attack. With the staff I do the opposite. Default attack first and kite the enemy while using your illusions to kill them. This works very well with a high condition damage build and triated for sharper images. At first it will seem like your attacks are weak but as bleed, burn and might start stacking, your enemy will literally melt before your eyes.

Also, mesmers have a LOT of self-combo potential. I suggest you learn them all.

Personally I see this as a good thing. Ori is used a lot in exotic mystic forge weapons so the more there is about, the cheaper those weapons will be. The last thing I need is another situation like the charged lodestones.

I too have parked 2 alts near the rich ori and also gather it daily with my main. It’s a lot less trouble to deal with one champion than a carpet of undead.

All three toons are level 80 though.

How about Jormag Jr? Would that make you happy? Calling it Claw would also cause confusion as one of the Koda has that name. Honestly, I think the problem really comes from the “dragon that shoots ice, flies around the whole zone and is way bigger than us,” being the ONLY Jormag you see in the game! I can understand why people think it’s the elder dragon.

Now if they actually showed the elder dragon in the game, we’d have a lot of soiled newbie pants to clean up.

I have one crazy idea. If they are running at you and turn invisible, blink to the spot where they were. You should end up in the spot behind them which may be their blind spot too. A quick If you have a greatsword out, skill 5 will push them away and cause an interrupt and give you a second to breathe.

While I like the idea, it’s not quite that simple. If they were equal, fewer people would go into the higher level dungeons because of the risk/reward factor. A token exchange of some sort would do wonders for dungeons that aren’t popular

I will preach this message from the mountains to the molehills; if you just HAVE to have a system based on RNG, create a baseline! There should be a point where something is 100% guaranteed for success or you’re just going to end up with a lot of disgruntle players whom feel cheated. In fact, from the people I’ve talked to whom have 77 clovers, their reaction to achieving said has never been relief. Every last one of them have found more… “colorful” variants of saying that Anet can either partake in asexual reproduction or greater gluteal osculation. Sometimes both.

Crafting a legendary should be a longterm goal with measurable progression. The Gift of Mastery is a great example of how it should be done. It takes a long time to get 200 skill points, 100 icy runestones, 250 obsidian shards and world completion but each of those steps has a highly visible metric. The only “bad” part is that badges of honor are a random drop (again, RNG sucks) but even that is alleviated by the jumping puzzles being an slower yet consistent alternative.

Feedback and positioning?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

One great thing I’ve learned recently is Feedback doesn’t need a target or line-of-sight. With some practice, you can cast it in front of you and stand in it for projectile protection. You can also use it on WvWers whom abuse the mesmer “fix” that doesn’t allow mesmers to attack those whom can still hit them.

The problem with throwing a shield is the action is copyrighted by Marvel. Seeing as Disney owns Marvel now and has been known to be a bit too… “zealous” in protecting their copyrights, going anywhere near this is just begging for a lawsuit. That’s why City of Heroes’ shield powerset didn’t have a shield throw.

They’d better remove the engineer class asap then.

I’ve barely played engineers (we’re talking an hour, tops) so I don’t know how their weapons work. They might be able to get away with it if it’s not a ricocheting attack.

Crossplay.2067

If you get LOS you can always berserker and burst. Otherwise spam AOE and pull them down. Every class has its perks. Nothing more fun than watching 5 people fall of the wall straight into your zerg

What’s better is you can place it on the vertical part of the ramparts so they can’t even see it coming! Also, so few people play mesmers regularly that a lot of WvWers don’t know all the things temporal curtains can do. They think it’s just a speed boost but I’ve used it as an assassination interrupt and to cripple incoming zergs.

Oh, and one of the greatest things to do while being chased by a zerg is to place an entry portal down but no exit. You won’t believe how many people will stop and wait for something to spawn from it.

Shelving mesmer for good, join me!

Crossplay.2067

I’m just chiming in here to post my 2 cents on the matter. My mesmer is my main and I will NOT shelve her over a petty band-aid nerf that’s meant to stop an exploit while they figure out how to fix it. The loss of might stacks pisses me off because I was working on a rabid armor, high condition/shatter pve build. The – let’s be honest – absurd amount of might stacking was going to cover my lack of Power but now that it’s gone, I have to start from scratch. Even so, I will still main my mesmer, proudly! No other class lets me screw with people’s minds like my mesmer!

Now what I wish Anet would do is toss us an olive branch whenever they use a band-aid tactic to buy more time for fixing bugs. For tinkering with the cooldown they should revoke that stupid, “clone summoning can be blocked” fix. I’ll give them line-of-sight as even I was guilty of abusing that “feature” but the others don’t make any sense.

Are the Sylvari a missed design opportunity?

in Sylvari

Crossplay.2067

I have a completely different view of sylvari. While I see their innocence and child-like wonder, I ponder why they are sticking around our neck of the woods. True, 25 years is a blink of an eye to races that have lived for centuries but, when sylvari are “born,” they are at the beginning of their adulthood. If they do share the experiences of others while in the Dream then most of the questions npcs ask other races should have been answered repeatedly by these shared experiences. If they truly were as inquisitive as we are lead to believe, shouldn’t they be more nomadic? I would think they’d want to spread out in small groups and try to see as much of the world as possible while trying to satisfy that curiousity. There really should be very, very few in the tiny corner of the world that Guild Wars 2 takes place in, even if it is their home turf. Actually, it’s BECAUSE it’s already so familiar that few will want to explore it further.

legendary?

in Crafting

Posted by: Crossplay.2067

Crossplay.2067

I, for one, don’t mind legendaries taking a long time to achieve. What I am kitten about is how much luck is involved in obtaining the components for them. Before I have stated that I’ve played this game every day since the pre-release and have NEVER gotten a rare weapon or armor from a chest. I must not change that statement. I’ve received one rare helm… that i couldn’t use because I don’t have any heavy armor classes. At least it sold fairly well. In the mean time someone has both Dusk and Dawn. I’ll even take it a step further and say that it’s theoretically possible to play this game until the servers are shut down and never get a precursor to drop.

That is what i despise about RNGs and that’s why they shouldn’t be used for the collection process of any legendary. But, if they just have to be in there, anet should at least make a baseline for success. For instance, if the droprate for charged lodestones is 1 in 20 then there should be a counter that forces the 20th elemental killed to drop one. I prefer to have a set, quantifiable amount of labor that I can schedule for rather than a random crapshoot that’s obviously doesn’t favor me.

In one comical chapter, 50 skritt go to the mist wars and zerg so hard that EVERYONE (centaurs, quaggans, elk, Destiny’s Edge and those from other worlds) have to team up just to halt their advance. And the whole reason behind their actions? A highly-polished copper doubloon.

I want a two-hand katana with the Iaijutsu style. Skill 3 HAS to be the circular dashing slash that Sengoku Basara 3’s Mitsuhide did. I also like the idea of a main hand fan or two-hand whip. When I played Phantasy Star Universe and had a whip, I recall my toon even swinging her hips while attacking! It was so awesome!

Oh, and I too want a main-hand gun. Make it happen.

Crossplay.2067

There’s a guy whom suggested turning blink into a signet with the passive being 25% speed increase and the active being blink. I feel that would be the best change. We don’t lose any skills and gain more functionality from one we already have. Plus, we lose the speed boost for a while if we teleport so it already balances itself. The coding is already in the game. Come on Anet! Make it happen!

I’m also wondering why Blink doesn’t have vertical movement and why can’t I use it to cross gaps I can clearly make by jumping. Granted it’s already a useful skill but I would love for it to have versatility for jumping puzzles. I feel being able to move to a ledge high enough to jump from without taking damage would be fair.

Suggestions for high-end PvE

Crossplay.2067

I do agree with you on some points. There’s way too much randomness in acquiring a legendary. I’ve grind those sparks for 2 hours without getting a single charged lodestone. The only reason I have one is because my guild leader gave one to me. I’ve heard one guy grind the same enemies for 8 hours and never got one yet someone else got one on the first kill. I don’t see how Anet thinks this is “fun” or “fair”.

Another sore point is I’ve been playing every single day from the pre-release and, forget exotics, I’ve never gotten a single rare weapon for a chest.

Ever.

At this point I’m about 50% to getting my legendary but everything left is heavily based off of RNGs. I didn’t mind doing the rest because, though frustrating, it was always a slow progress. For instance, I’m not particularly fond of WvW but I’m willing to do the jumping puzzle for my server because there’s little chance of me running into a player from another server. Better still, when I do see one doing my server’s jumping puzzle, we leave each other alone. I personally don’t attack anyone whom made it that far into enemy territory because I know how frustrating that is.

I don’t bother with the jp in eternal battlegrounds because it’s far too long and the risk is way too high for the reward. I did it one for the achievement and that was a hassle even when my server was dominating at the time. Of course things are worse now as it seems I can only do a particular jumping puzzle on one toon instead of all of them.

When I first started working towards Sunrise, I had the intention of doing it all on my own. I stuck with that intention for 3 months, constantly turning down my guildmates’ assistance. now I feel it’s needed to cover the rest of what I need and it just shouldn’t be that way. MY legendary should be based off of MY blood, sweat and tears, not when the RNG finally decides to favor me.

The staff is good for condition damage. The auto-attack inflicts burning and when the orbs bounces back to you, it stacks might. I haven’t tested in recently but last i played, clones’ orbs also bounced back to you, stacking more might. That and with the trait, “sharper Images” which make clone attacks cause bleeding on crits can literally make enemies melt in seconds. As for WvW, confusing builds seem to work best. I still see a lot of people that don’t seem to understand how confusion works so they keep attacking and essentially kill themselves in the process. It’s quite humorous!

Mist Dungeon

Crossplay.2067

My biggest problem with this WHOLE dungeon scaling and stuff.
Most players cant even complete a dungeon on explore mode. Let alone communicate in a civil manner. And no offence ArenaNet but this is going to exclude allot of players that are not, up to this task. I through you aim was for everyone to enjoy the game and get to see the high end content? This pretty much gives them the finger, that they cant get the better drops. Its being very exclusive… Which is making me worry about, when you add new content. Aka new dungeons to the game that are permanent in the future.

I would say that “most” is an exaggeration as most of my pug runs are smooth. I will say that the ones that didn’t work have stood out but they were still fewer.

Still, your experience may vary so I would suggest joining or creating a dedicated dungeon running guild. That way you’ll always have members ready to join and they are more likely to know what to do and stick to it until the end.

Mounts [Merged]

Crossplay.2067

To everyone against mounts, I have one situation that will kill your waypoint argument. There have been times (yes, plural) when I was in the Straits of Devastation and the only two waypoints available were the ones next to area portals. The rest were contested. I wish that was an exaggeration. Some I have never seen available! Ever. I have even ported into the map and have literally been moved to a several waypoints away because ALL became contested before I arrived. This has happened on several occasions. I hated it so much that once I completed that map, I never went back.

Now to be fair, I hit 80 8 days after the prerelease so I was certainly way ahead of the leveling curve. However, I was not alone. I’m on Crystal Desert which has a fairly high population and there was a good amount of people there but we could not keep even half the waypoints clear to save our lives.

Now imagine the nightmare those on low population servers go through.

Mounts would alleviate some of that pain. I would be a lot more willing to travel around maps with constantly contested waypoints because I won’t have to slog past 5 to get to where I want to go. I don’t even need to be riding something. Just give me a power that I can turn on and consistently move 33% faster. No, warriors don’t count. I main a Mesmer and if I can’t use this power equally for every profession, that’s a problem with the game.
