The problem is not with the class it self but the celestial stats.
Before they could do a bit of everything but still had to focus on one or two things to still be effective which is why condition was favoured as it’s much easier to scale and apply pressure with.
However now with celestial they have the stats to be able to do everything at a reasonable level, however it’s pobably the might stacking meta that tips them over the edge as it increases both power and condi pressure and they have a decent amount of both so they effectivly get more out of might stacks making their damage obsured while retaining a decent amount of everything else. Due to this cele ele and cele engi synergise ridiculously well together.
I wouldn’t say necro are a hard counter to either but in this meta they have the best shot at taking them down, more so the engi than ele, mainly due to the engi’s lack of condi removal. Corrupt boon is invaluable against these two, especially if you corrupt 20 stacks of might, the weakness will cripple their damage while applying condi pressure.
This is how I see it anyway, just my opinion.

Really enjoying these videos, I love how you show the person saying you use macros and yet you click your utilities! x’D
The music is really nice, it fits nicely.
Thank you.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Dae, are you seriously that narrow minded?
The mantra heal for Mesmer is a niche heal, the elixir heal for engi is a niche heal, necro’s minion heal is niche, need I continue?
No one else has the regen and the health pool and the toughness while retaining high amounts of damage a warrior has. Warrior isn’t meant to have defencive healing traits, if you want that play a guardian/elementalist, engineer to a lesser extent, but then you’ll only complain about their small health pools and lack of damage. Only Guardians get Aegis wish procs every 40 seconds and goes on an even longer CD when actually used, you’re over rating it, really. Don’t see why you’re so obssed with blinds, want a blind? Use a longbow, problem solved. Endure pain and the shield block says hello, again! Spam evades? Vigor on stance use and use Sigil of Energy, problemo solved.
Spirit of Nature has more HPS? Do you even read your own link or play the game for that matter? It has less HPS than the signet, is an elite and has a 3 min cooldown, you can hardly compare the two.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Dae, you make it sound like every class has easy access to poison, only necro, engi and theif do and aren’t warrior supposed to be the counter to necro…?
Nerfing the stun won’t require a wep revamp, fixing the sigil of para may well be enough. And I have no idea why HB wasn’t the GS’s adren skill anyways….
BlackBeard, may I snuggle up and cuddle your beard?
Ahem, that aside, that is a pretty good idea, it’d be like the dreadful siphon necro has but it being based on how much damage you do, that’d mean you’d have to actively land your burst meaning people would be less mindless and would also reward you for it. I mean the Ele’s and Thiefs signet heals work on actions and they’re both action based classes so that would suit the warrior as it is a powerhouse.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Warrior is the most proactive class? Ha.
And those 1 condition every 10 seconds aren’t as great as one would think, due to condi’s being 1st in last out. That is why I’d much rather cleansing ire, it’s basically got a 10s ICD and cures what, 3 condi’s? While guardians have a GM trait that cure 1 condi into a boon when using shouts…
I think you’re underestimating the power of CI imo.
Ageis is what makes a guard good? It has a 40 sec inc and if you use it, it goes on like a 90 sec C/D? It’s nothing to scoff at, really. Oh noes, all those blinds, do you mean the one they get on the focus and sword? Pretty sure other classes have many more blinds.
A 3 second invuln that is their elite and is channelled irc, so they can do anything during, yet as a warrior with a shield you get 2-3 seconds of blocking all attacks? Which has a much shorter C/D? Warrior can have high boon uptime too, but I’m pretty sure thats what guardian is about, providing boon support to their team – nothing to be jealous of considering they’re giving you their boons too.
It’s kinda a guardians job to mitigate damage, they have a low health pool, they can barley reach what a warrior has as a base! Now can you stop with this little hate rant you have for another class and focus on the warrior? Thanks.
I wish people that played warrior would stop flashing the “We’re UP card” you’re far from it, the regen isn’t a problem at the moment because of Necro’s and Spirit Rangers – they overshadow everything atm. Heck even w/o the regen I’d love a warrior on my team.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
I’ve only skim read this but here is my two cents -
I’ve built a condi warrior that manages to achieve 865 (give or take) regen a second (This number has been divided by 3 to consider the adren heal), I have 3.3k toughness and can reach 100 tick bleeds – It’s hard for this spec to loose in a 1v1 and all of it’s sustainability and damage comes from PASSIVE play, all I have to do is stack condis and stand there and it can’t loose, even in 2v1’s most of the time. I also built a CC warrior, had less healing but a ton more damage and because people were chain CC’d I was free to regen that health.
I’ve had a few people rage at me because of it and even a few that were in envy of it . Warrior has the highest passive regen of all the classes, please note that I said passive and I didn’t mention they were the best bunkers, they can bunker but they don’t have much access to protection.
It’s the regen that is the problem mostly, 2 traits and a signet and they can sustain in a 1v1 forever. Also the chain stunning with the sigil is quite a problem, it was before but then we had more SB’s but then some got removed or where placed to other skills but then nothing has been done about chain fearing necros or chain stunning warriors, skull crack needs a change in animation so it’s more telegraphed mainly. (Oh and the trait that gives 50% extra crit chance when opo is stunned needs to be moved up a tier.)
Other then that wars need work in other area’s, banners are lack luster unless you’re building a regen build – they should offer different ways to support your team. It’s pretty much stances all the way, sometimes might see bulls rush and bolas but stances outshine anything else, really.
TL/DR – Warrior is too passive, stun locking to a bit too powerful after the changes to SB’s on other classes (It’s more a case of abundance of stuns than duration, tbh), utilities and some traits need moving/rethinking.
@Daecollo – Cleansing Ire, which I would rather have over 1 condi every 10 seconds, any day of the week. Maybe not perma vigor but can be traited (10 pts irc) for vigor on stances. Maybe not have stealth or teleports but most of the weapons offer a form of mobility, greatsword in particular so we can get in and out of fights with relative ease. Erm, endure pain at low health and shouts heal say hello?

No, I came back hoping things were better and I came back to the worst meta, kinda bad considering it’s been a year now.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Personally I’d have to have invigorating speed in there somewhere, I’d take it over protection injection, I’d also use the EG or the TK over FT, probably EG as it has more healing, has a stun breaker, applies weakness, removes condis and has blast finisher. I’d probably also take out Sig of Energy and use leeching (If using Invigorating).
I may have to try out thumper turret, I’m usually running 3 kits but the thumper might be better to use than my tool kit, though I’ll have to practice trying to get all those blast finishers off in our short duration water fields. Dx
Thank you for sharing.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
People just aren’t fabulous enough to be able to strut a hobo sack and make it work.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
If concerned about sustainability, I would stay away from elixirs. Go with the Elixir Gun.
I would also stay away from the Healing Turret, as that is better for group support than self-sustainability. The Med Kit is far better at that with Drop Bandages along with Bandage Self, the latter of which scales by Healing Power far better than the Healing Turret does.
I would personally have to disagree with the bandages.
The turret provides a burst heal on a 20 sec cool down, which is roughly a 6-7k (With healing power I think) burst heal PLUS removing 3 conditions and giving regen, also the toolbelt provides another water field so you can blast heal some more, the problem with the med kit I find is that it’s too slow, you have to place the kits down then pick them up. Another thing is that your team can blast heal your water field for more healing, so I think it’s better all around.
Don’t get me wrong, they have their use putting kits down pre-emptively but they just don’t provide the reliable sustain that the healing turret does imo, could argue that they’re better for roaming? (Though personally I’d still take turret)

So the necro gets a buff in conditions and suddenly the game is all about condition spam? Maybe for the Necro but I’m pretty sure all the other classes stayed the same in that regard and if you’re not running condi removal then that is your problem.
Mesmers condition builds were nerfed months ago.
Months ago, not in this patch.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
What I never understood is that the toolkits offered some very unique creativity yet you decided on “hobo sacks”, if I was in the art department I would have gone wild with the engineer! I have so many ideas for each tool kit and I’m sure everyone else does too.
I think you should run a concept art competition but make it so there is only one entry per person and have the community vote on which is their most favourite and have it implemented in game, just an idea.

Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Not effectively no, we are an attrition based class that doesn’t have the attrition.
Our life siphon is pathetic, we have no stability, no burst heals from water combos/heals on skills and no real upkeep of boons.
I typically always player bunkers, or at least heavily defensive condi builds and necro just doesn’t line up with any of the other classes, only thief is worst off in terms of bunkering.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
That is brilliant!
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
To me the ‘nades are working as intended, they’re ground targeted and have random spread, now if they where player targeted and had spread then I’d think it wasn’t working correctly. I just see it as the physics working, to an extent. And trust me, I’m nothing like the majority of the community and that why I added “I don’t normally post these replies”.
I suppose they could always reduce the deviation on the grenades but further you throw them the more spread you get, much like the rangers longbow that does more damage at longer distances however the spread is increased.
@Bulent
I think the 1 sec burn on flamethrower is there so we can’t stack an insane amount of burning on one foe considering it is the most powerful condition (Considering necro’s got 4 sec on crit every 10 sec and people cried -though now nerfed).
Don’t get me started on the “mortar” and when trait-ed you throw grenades further lol…
The grenades still feel very powerful and arguably one of the best AoE methods in game, I haven’t run SPvP in a long time (Hate how the meta works) I mainly do WvW/PvE so this maybe why I don’t see it as a problem.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Are you being serious?
You’re complaining because grenades have spread?
Grab 3 tennis balls and throw them at a target, I will bet you that each time you throw them they will spread differently, you may as well ask for homing grenades.
I don’t typically make these sort of replies but to me this just seems stupid…
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
I like how there are no questions asked, no one to plead a case otherwise, instead everyone is saying to play another class, which says a lot
Looks like it’s either Mesmer or Ranger. Nice vid Warcry.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Well…..
I’ve never played Ranger, thought they was more long range single target DPS?
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
As the title says I haven’t played in a long time, months at least and I was wanting to come back when I heard they were finally changing the Necro (Necro being my Main since beta weekends) for the better.
Well trust me to come back on the day they decide to nerf them, lol.
I like to play attrition based classes mainly using conditions and from what I’ve heard the Necro still hasn’t got any escape mechanics nor any immunity skills and nothing to really emphasis the attrition?
I want to start over, from level 1 again however I have this feeling the necro is in limbo, still and I’m not sure I could deal with the constant neglect, it’s been months and it doesn’t feel like they’ve changed anything substantial.
So really my question is this – Is what I said all wrong or should I roll a condi mesmer?
Again, I’ve been a way awhile, I’ve been keeping up to date on patch notes and forums but not actually tested anything in game. Thanks.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Asura , I thought it would be harder to target me in WvW ..
And now you’re just small with funny ears.
Haha, My Ele is female Asura, the voice acting and dialog is just awesome and very entertaining, you can down me in the most unfair way imaginable but if my character screams ’I’m still smarter than you!’ in the downed state, it makes it all OK again :P
That is brilliant! I usually go by, “If I look good while dying, I don’t care” but this is far better. x’D
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Originally human, however the animations and more so their lines started to bug the crap out of me. I then went sylvari however they don’t have many armour options that suit them, I’ve now settled on Asura – I did not like them at first glance but they’ve really grown on me!
Asura all the way!
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
I would still farm all the mats and just sit on them until they create new legendary weapons then get the prerequisite. I find it unfair how the GS gets 2 versions and then a version that mixes them together however the rest of the other don’t.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Is D/D considered the only real viable, or is it just noob bait?
Staff is great for bunker builds and D/D is the best for the versatility, D/D is the most viable but not the only viable weapon set.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
sPVP is all about the kills
Incorrect! Capturing and holding point is the main objective!
Try telling that to people in sPvP.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
I’m gonna have to try this “ppl in spvp dont target staff elementalists” because as soon as I see a staff elementalist in spvp i just see a walking bag of free glory waiting to be taken.
I love that personally, I can go round with 3-4 people chasing me – but what they don’t realize is that while they’re distracted with me (I usually move off a point if this happens) is that my team is capping their points and mopping up their other team mates.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Do not underestimate a staff Ele in the midst of battle, for the fun of it I went full glass cannon and staff (I was messing around with arcane skills applying vuln while using lingering attunement to get the damage boost from water) and my god I felt like a game changer (One that can die to someone sneezing) especially on the new temple map – get height advantage on the gate and rain death from above!
Thought I’d randomly throw that out there.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
I’ve tried S/F and D/F many times, trying to get it to work, since the focus is more defense orientated I’d expect it to be great on bunker builds however it is very lack luster. It’s not that you can’t make it work it’s the fact that the dagger offhand offers a lot more, I had a condition D/F bunker build using Shamans and a 0/0/30/30/10 (Evasive arcana seemed pointless due to the lack of fields/finishers). The condition damage was great (It felt better than S/F) as I was able to have constant bleeds, a lot of burning damage but also some decent support. Anything outside of this and I haven’t managed to make it work for myself, I’d love to see some videos or examples of what you do, if thats possible? I can’t really say I’ve seen anyone with D/F.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
@Quizz, I don’t really see the point of having a 90 second cooldown stun breaker, if you’re suing it as a stun breaker you may as well use cleansing fire. Earth shield would also buy you time for when you need to get into the water attunement.
@Ranger, Hmm agreed it would be much better if they just conjured at our feet instantaneously.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
5 skills for one utility slot sounds great.
Losing access to 20 skills for 5 doesn’t.
You do not loose access, you use the conjure for what you need it for (Much like swapping to an attunement, use the skills and get back out), also you can still swap what attunement you’re in while using them. Heres and example, I was in sPvP at the Graveyard point I was getting low and my water attunement was still in cooldown so I popped the shield and spammed the 5 button like I don’t know what then while I was in the invun state I was able to switch to water (Which healed me), dropped the shield and then get off my heal rotation.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Everyone complains at Conjures being sub-par and having no place in builds ect however I believe that the majority of players don’t see their potential and just see X amount of damage then think it’s not worth it (Even though they have pretty decent damage).
I’ve played Engineer and conjures work a little like their kits. All I see is people saying their damage is crap however it’s a utility slot and isn’t meant for pure damage so when you think about using them, look at the skills and what they offer, you’re getting 5 skills for 1 utility spot, it’s a kitten good deal!
Now, this is aimed more at bunker builds (Staff primarily).
Most bunker builds run Arcane wave, Armour of Earth and Mist form, 0/0/10/30/10 which means we get armour of earth at 50% hp anyways (Which is on an 90 second cool down), so we get a free utility slot with the same cool down (Un-traited) for free at 50% HP.
My question is, why waste a utility slot on something you’re getting anyways? Sure it’s good for sure stomps and reviving that ally without interruptions however does it really does the cooldown really justify using it?
Don’t get me wrong it’s a decent skill (I think the cooldown is a tad absurd) but you could use Earth Shield and get a daze, an interrupt which pulls people towards you, so it can be used to stop people reviving, stomping or even interrupting that quickness someones just popped on your ally while having a skill that makes you immune to any incoming damage for 3 seconds just like like the focuses E5 skill. Not to mention it is on a 60 second cool down and your allies can pick one up if they need to.
I’ve been using it today (Albeit with a new build I was testing, which wasn’t great) and I got a PM from someone telling me I was a noob for using a conjure, I guess thats why I wrote this to hopefully get some people to see that they aren’t all that bad.
Now I’d like peoples thoughts and what they think.
Don’t be too harsh, I have feelings behind this wall of text. :s
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Engineer would be a good candidate as their weapon kits act much like our attunement swapping, they have great bunker builds and decent condition damage builds. Nothing will have the healing an Ele does however Engi does have some decent healing options.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
I played Scepter full time. The biggest problem I have with it is that most skills are too slow. For a med range weapon we need more targeted spells rather than ground target spells. Arc lighting is my bread and butter but it starts out way to low on damage and ramps up to way too much damage. It would be nicer if the damage was normalized rather than ramping up from 200ish to over 2.5k.
The damage you see is cumulative so it will add up the previous damage, so for example it may hit for 200 per hit but each tick you will see it as 200, 400, 600, ect.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
@Gremlin, Lol! I would’ve never done that, I bet they wasn’t expecting that one.
@Intigo, couldn’t agree more, I generally gravitate towards classes that require more co-ordination to play. I’ve already watched every vid you have. =p

Turn graphics settings down to lowest possible if no improvement go to local computer shop and ask. Dont believe them? Get a second opinion from another one.
Upgrade or buy a new computer as they suggest. Btw GW2 plays fine on my Toshiba Satellite A660-056 laptop. But Ive only used it in 8vs8 spvp not in wvww. I use it on mid settings.
Also I think I just got trolled.
He mentions nothing to do with graphics? ._.
Well your main problem is that you’re level 18 and most people in WvW are level 80. Yes you get scaled to level 80 however they have better gear and have all their traits unlocked. All I can suggest it run around with the zergs and level up until, also keep on top of your gear make sure you have the best gear you can get for your level blues/greens will do at lower levels.

Also it’s great being able to play bunker Ele again!

Nope, I got the Codec and it still is sending me into 11 FPS when recording.
Are you recording and playing to the same hard drive? I know that this can often cause frame problems for me.
Unfortunately not, Guild Wars is installed to my SSD and I record to my 2 TB hardrive and DXtory says I have 153 M/B write speed on that drive.

How do you get 15s of chill? Elemental surge only gives you 5s per arcane spell? Does Arcane Power make all your next attacks arcane?
@Curring
How is that 10k heal? Wouldn’t the Rain have run out before you finished that heal combo? You’re supposed to use eruption before healing rain. It should be Eruption + Healing Rain + Roll + Arcane Wave. That’s 5k heal + 2k over time from healing rain. That’s like using a glyph of harmony. And it took a lot of spells and time to do.
Visual explanation is better than text explanation sometimes, hope you don’t mind; http://youtu.be/MvZtaNr8ICM
I have 1.2k healing (Clerics Ammy with Soldiers Gem and using runes of Dwayna) so each blast finisher heals for about 2.5k, so does attuning to water, I can’t remember how much the water dodge roll heals for though as usually I don’t see the green numbers (If there are any for it). So that’s 5 direct heals with 20 seconds of regeneration (Not to mention the condi removal). I usually use this combo when I hit 50% health as I get a free armour of earth and can burst heal myself and allies, I then use my armour of earth utility for sure stomps or if I need to cast meteor without being interrupted, more so the former.
I feel it’s balanced well with the one blast finisher.

RTL is indeed a bug. I’ve got a fix and going to try and push it through today.
Jon
While you’re at it can you see if you may be able to get a quick fix for this? I understand it might not be a quick fix though. :s
Thanks for the vid. Got a fix for this now too.
Yessss! Thank you! Greatly appreciate it.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Armour of Earth > Rain > Dodge Roll > Swap to Earth > Dodge Roll Again > Eruption > Arcane Blast.
That what about 10k+ healing done right there? Staff is now back to it’s supporting glory, however it doesn’t have the OP blast finisher no matter what dodge roll.
Now about D/D Ele’s, it is more about situational awareness knowing what does what and what to avoid. Most Ele’s use the typical combo’s of RTL>Updraft ect so most of the time you can dodge when RTL hits and dodge the updraft or use burning retreat or they may Magnetic Grasp you into a knockdown (You can still dodge the knockdown while immobilized). Though some Ele’s may think on the fly and get creative, those are the ones you want to watch out for as they don’t use your typical combos. For example my favorite is teleporting onto a point then using updraft to get them off the point.
D/D’s main counter is CC, freeze, immobilize and cripple really hurt a D/D ele immobilize more so. Luckily as a Staff ele you have a nice amount of CC to hinder their movement however killing them is a different story as most will just escape if you do manage to get them down to low health. If you’re in a group situation and you see their D/D getting low pop earth 5, 9/10 they will be dead.
There isn’t really much of a hard counter to D/D apart from outplaying them.

@konosh, next time look at the video description, it gives a brief explanation as to what is happening, plus it is quite self explanatory.
It was working before hand, there have been multiple times I have summoned the water elemental while in mist form. I also know what you mean with the glyphs, I was running glyph of storms (I think it is) and I noticed that when I went into mist form that it would be off C/D even though I used it 5 second prior, can you use them while in mist form? (I never got to test as usually I’m using ether in Mist form)
So it breaks Elemental but could also be abused to use the skill twice in a row.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Anet stop breaking us please. ._.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Proof that it is broken. =/
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
i just came out of WvW and glyph in mistform works just fine i think thats just you o.o
They’re right, I just tried it in the mists and the Elemental does not appear however is on it’s cool down. And then when it’s finished the skill is completely locked out – you can not use it, even swapping to other elites and swapping back doesn’t work.
Kittens, Kittens everywhere!
Nope, the trait still works.
